The recent change is terrible though.  I don't want Google filtering emails for me...  I hate this whole "Promotions" business...

I'm giving it till Fall.

Also, I'd love an opportunity to not bring up Obama in threads such as this, but my red headed carrot top loon, he brought himself into this issue when he shouldn't have and that isn't my fault.

I'd tell you to go back and reread my post on why he inserted himself, but as we've established, you aren't really that good with logic.

p.s  the reason Obama isn't speaking up everytime there's a murder in this country and the killer is black is simple:  he absolutely hates all white people.  you've found out the truth!  congratulations!  The african american conspiracy has suffered a fatal blow today thanks to anonymous internet poster Eco-Logic.

Holy shit you're a perfect specimen of outright liberal lunacy.  I.E. attempting to divert with stale ass humor with no basis in anything actually being discussed.

Instead of spouting your lame ass bullshit, how about putting two sentences together and explaining to us why this president decided to comment on this case.  A case that any legal mind worth a damn agrees shouldn't have even been brought to trial, much taken to the circus level it was taken.
170  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Zimmerman / Martin Thread? on: July 22, 2013, 08:37:09 PM
And as to "why" the POTUS inserted himself into this case, he shouldn't have and any of your fucking rumblings make no difference on that point.

He simple shouldn't have.

I've received a handful of messages asking me to bring up the African American teenager that shot the baby, I'd decided not to as i do feel it "trivializes the issue"but your recent shenanigans made it easier for me.

Honestly, we could post pictures all day long.  There isn't a valid reason, other than agenda pushing and race bating, that the "POTUS" should have made any response to this case.

The same can be said for Sharpton and Jackson, they need to just shrivel up and disappear.  Their time has passed, and they aren't close to being the civil rights "leaders" they're attempting to emulate...  They've done more harm than good and race relations and the brain cells of those that listen to them are the victims.

Please reiterate, as I read many, if not all of your posts in this thread (many of which were a lame ass attempt at humor, which I appreciate if applied appropriately).

I agree that the premise of the article you quote is tragic, and something needs to change.

I personally feel the change that is required is at the FAMILY/community level.  It's a wide-spread, rampant issue and difficult to discuss/bring up...  The statistics don't lie though, and African Americans that are outspoken on this issue have my direct attention.

Fireball, I welcome an open discussion on this, but I fear the environment here likely won't allow it.  The first one that calls me racist or a bigot is even more of an ignorant douche than I originally thought (said based on the last time I brought up this issue).

Can we all finally agree that Florida's expanded self defense law "Stand Your Ground" had nothing to do with this case?

Quote
Bob Dekle, a retired prosecutor who also teaches at UF Law, said, " 'Stand your ground' turns out to have been a huge red herring (in the Zimmerman case.) The result very well could have been the same prior to enactment of the law."

Dekle, a critic of "stand your ground" provisions, said that even if a person initiates a fight, they always have had the right to defend themselves if they're in fear of death or great bodily harm. "You don't forfeit your right to do whatever you need to do to live simply because you've been a jerk," Dekle said.

The only question is whether Zimmerman was truly in danger when he fired the shot.

Don't hold your breath on them agreeing...

The Stand Your Ground law has been utilized in FL by African Americans by a pretty significant margin.

This case was never about race or stand your ground.

There is actually a way to set the dashboard to "family" mode, so it won't show M/R rated material by default.  I think you can do that by going to Settings -> Family and setting a ratings limit there.  You can then go into Privacy & Online Settings -> Customize Content -> Filtering to set all content to the Family filter.

Thank you.  I should have investigated further.  I'll do this tonight.

Indeed.  It's a shame, because as edgy as we are as a country right now, I wouldn't be surprised at all if riots do occur.

Who said this and why?

"But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. And I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and that we're going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened."

Was that necessary?

I had typed out a post but realize it is not worth posting.  I do think it is worth posting the fact that despite our politics, no one can argue the fact that our infrastructure as a nation isn't ready, nor is our federal government ready to implement the ACA.

The infrastructure that has been built by the current (and essentially broken) model of health care?  Of course it's not ready.  And it never WILL be unless we force the change.

We actually don't disagree on the fact that we as Americans shouldn't be paying so much more for the same care offered to other technologically advanced countries.

I despise ACA as it's written and that's not worth getting into here.  I agree completely that healthcare should be reformed.

Why should a half-assed bill be pushed through to reform healthcare, with no plan in place to actually implement the damn thing?

It is hard for me to grasp the fact that people don't get how bad this bill, and the subsequent dodging/mishaps regarding the implementation of said bad bill actually are.   I've come to accept that fact now though and am eager to know how on earth you've come to the conclusion that implementing this bill is good for our country.

Other thoughts:

Has this President shown a propensity to lead?
Honest question, as I feel Clinton and Bush did in fact lead (even if I didn't agree with Clinton).

I simply don't see any leadership at all from Barack.

I expect "witty" comebacks that lack humor to anyone else, but welcome an actual discussion.

I GET how you all (liberals in general) and I can be so opposite on social issues such as abortion (i will not be convinced that it is ever "okay" to stop a beating heart as that is only for our Creator to decide).  I do not get the willful acceptance of incompetence though.

I'm also pretty liberal on Gay rights as I don't think homosexual couples should be given different rights from heterosexual couples.

I'm also against capital punishment, unless there is absolute evidence of guilt (I.E. Bin Laden, CO theater shooter etc.)

The reason you didn't find a thread on this issue in Off Topic is because it's borderline R&P now...and will most certainly cross the line sooner rather than later anyway.

With that in mind...

The Stand Your Ground law is inherently flawed and too ambiguous to exist within the legal system.  I have no issue with self defense, but the initial use of that law in the early days of the case drove that point home for me.

As for Zimmerman, a trial was necessary in light of the fact that a 17 year old kid was shot and killed by someone who was explicitly told NOT to confront someone who was NOT breaking any laws by a representative of the police.  If no trial had taken place, it would weaken any future attempts to challenge self defense cases with similar circumstances.

Whether or not he should be found guilty of anything is up to the jury that has been exposed to far more facts surrounding the case than any of us.

I would also add that groups on both sides of the fence regarding the case have acted despicably on more than one occasion.

I agree completely.

The media slant however was not required and did nothing but increase racial tensions which shouldn't have even been an issue.
