121  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors begin. on: August 28, 2013, 09:34:38 PM
I'm also 100% Sony this time as well, which is saying something as I haven't owned a Sony console since the ps1.

I'm just not a big Microsoft fan nowadays, Windows 8 has pissed me off a lot lately, and the original bs with the XB1 DRM left a bad taste in my mouth.

That, coupled with PS4 exclusives that I haven't really experienced before (Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted etc.), plus the $100 price difference for a more powerful console, made my decision easier.

Our faces were scalded/severely sunburnt after the train passed.

Because the light was so hot?

No, the blowback from the train was super hot.  Neither of us were expecting that.  Not only was it extremely hot, but it was pretty fierce too.

124  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Nope, not any better (HP/Windows 8) on: August 28, 2013, 06:46:16 PM
My 10 month old HP laptop crashed and burned and it thankfully still had 81 days left on the warranty.  I know this because the very helpful/ nice Indian I spent 1 hour and 27 minutes talking with on the phone told me numerous times, while trying to sell me an extended warranty.

Anyway, I paid $16 for the expedited repair option and filled out a form to backup everything in the My Documents folder (namely pictures that cannot be replaced).

We received the laptop yesterday, 13 days after I sent it to HP... Why did I pay for expedited service again???  Also, absolutely nothing was backed up.  Thank God I installed Crashplan a week before the computer crashed and i have everything backed up in the cloud.

I guess I had some shred of hope that everything would be backed up and that either (1)Windows 7 would have been accidentally installed or (2) Windows 8 wouldn't suck quiet as bad.

Sorry venting, not the biggest fan of either Microsoft nor HP right now, and I will feel some vindication in mid-November when Purchase the PS4...
125  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What stupid things did you do as a teen? on: August 28, 2013, 06:06:46 PM
One of the dumbest things I did as a teenager involved trains.  My friend and I for for some reason decided it would be cool to climb up one of the train lights over a track that was really close to our neighborhood.

This light was one of those U shaped lights, with ladders on both sides.  We got to the top and of course a train came screaming around the corner.  I tried to be mature and told my friend not to panic and try and make it down as that would be more dangerous, and falling from that distance would be very bad.

So, we each grabbed a hold of one of the lights and held on for dear life.  Our faces were scalded/severely sunburnt after the train passed.  That seemed like the longest train of all time.

I also did the driving with people that were too drunk to be driving thing, and thank God nothing ever happened.

In other news, I will Eat my hat if Bale doesn't end up at Madrid.  I hope he does, because that means Di Maria / Ozil / Benzema (any or all would be great)  to Arsenal is more likely.

Great win by the gunners to move to the group stage of the cl for the 16th straight time!  Bring on the North London derby, though I hate we took some injuries today...

Ban me from this ghost town shithole of ignorant political beliefs, please.

This whole thing was reminiscent of telling my 5 year old to stop tattling on my 3 year old, and that isn't surprising.

Lol (ban me Ron please, you tried... And I even tried to help you, and In reality I enjoyed my time here especially playing COD back in the day, but this ghost town shithole isn't worth trying to keep alive and I would more consider it an insult if you don't ban me).

I pray this is my last allowed post here.  Those of you I had a great time playing COD with back in the day, thank you for a great time.

Been here since GG, and happy to get the hell out.  Good luck to you and yours.

About 70% through State of the Union and its excellent.   Not sure what i will read next, maybe the next Brad Thor, possibly Wiseman's Fear.

Hope this is the right thread for this (I tried), I have really enjoyed this so far, but I'm a sucker for sci fi.   I agree the acting is sometimes hit or miss, but for the most part I like it.

I was happy to see Big Jm as the actor from Breaking Bad, which I love.

I received a set of LG Tone plus this week and absolutely love them.

Here is the link:

 http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-Tone-HBS-730-Bluetooth/dp/B009A5204K

They are awesome for watching movies, listening to music (especially while mowing) and also talking (though I typically use my Plantronics Voyager Pro for talking).

The form factor is different but super effective.  It's also great for watching movies while in bed.  Highly recommended...

When I do use an internet radio, I go with Pandora since they do a pretty good job of finding like music.

That and when it gets upwards of 115 in Arizona, a watch is the last thing you want to wear.

+1 sans the extreme heat.

Many of my colleagues wear very expensive watches and they seem to be more of a status symbol than anything else.

I'll stick with my 100% accurate phone smile

This is why I'm not sold on the whole iWatch thing...  I'm probably wrong though and Apple will probably still make billions on it.

My final soliloquy:

I wish you all the best in whatever you do.  I hope to God our country rights the ship returns to a more conservative platform as I think anything else is absolutely crazy, I don't see that happening though do  to the welfare state we've been drug into.  That's all irrelevant, as I hope to have more gaming memories with you all.  I will be on the PS4, for what it's worth.  Take care, and God bless.

Just telling it like it is, if it's "troll like" in your reality to blame a majority of the Detroit bankruptcy on labor unions, than consider me a troll.

If it weren't for liberals, Detroit would be a thriving metropolis right now; the envy of the world. There are no other factors at play. If you revised the timeline from the date of Detroit's founding to the present and snipped out every liberal born, you would have a 2013 with an awesome Detroit. Fact.
Oh, touché, when in reality, if it wasn't for liberal ass labor unions like the UAW, Detroit wouldn't be in this mess.

Wait for it, your fucking president will probably figure our a way to bail them out a second time... With our money.

Your echo chamber must be truly deafening.

Of course it's not just Detroit, it's our whole freaking country facing this issue.  Detroit is just the beginning and until we elect officials that are willing to address these issue (of spending way beyond our means) honestly, we are screwed.
149  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Are there... on: July 24, 2013, 08:20:23 PM
Because it takes so much time to prod this cage...  If you're one the wrong side of an issue, you're on the wrong side of an issue, and in this case (regarding Detroit bankruptcy) it's clearly not me.

The SAD thing is I'm firmly of the opinion that the trend of witnessing liberal policies/views resulting it total failure is going to continue. Whether it be the lack of attention to the $17 trillion elephant in the room or the healthcare bill that was never setup to succeed.... Among a slew of other things...

Instead of starting a thread regarding Detroit and blaming who is responsible, I thought I'd give you all a chance to respond first.

Reading "Rubicon" by Tom Holland about the fall of the Roman Empire Republic. It is a very good read and a real page turner. Some history books can tend to bog down a bit but this is a great recounting of what happened. Highly recommended.

This sounds great, added it to my Goodreads list.

Now for my update.  Since reading the last Ledger novel I've finished:

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman:  This is only my second Gaiman novel (American God's being the first) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  It is quiet short, but I feel I got my moneys worth and it's basically a modern day fairy tale.

Path Of The Assassin (Scot Harvath #2) by Brad Thor:  I enjoyed this every bit as much as Lions of Lucerne.  Great series, and I'm so glad there are now 12 books total, including the latest which is a #1 at Amazon currently.

The Last Child by John Hart:  This was excellent and I've now added all Hart's other books to my must read list.

Now Reading:  State of the Union by Brad Thor (Scot Harvath #3)

I'm giving it till Fall.
