I'll be playing Shadow of Mordor and FIFA, and of course Hearthstone.

I played this a lot over the weekend. It's starts out slowly with a lot of story elements. I almost couldn't make it through, because I found it difficult to keep all the characters in check and know what was going on. But once you break through the gameplay becomes pretty fun and enjoyable.

Thanks, I haven't bought it yet, good to know.

Respectfully disagree, this is still my GOTY.

I'll be playing TLOU DLC, and the free ps+ games, especially spelunky.
126  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: [iOS] Terra Battle, from the creators of Final Fantasy on: October 10, 2014, 05:44:03 PM

Quote from: Gratch on October 10, 2014, 03:18:39 PM

So Terra Battle is the newest games from Mistwalker, Hironobu Sakaguchi's studio.  It's a big departure from their previous efforts, and sees them trying to capture some of the lightning in a bottle that Puzzle & Dragons was able to do so well.  I was very skeptical about this tile-based battler, but it's really starting to grow on me.

The basic premise is very simple:  moving your tiles to surround an enemies on both sides allows you to attack.  However, there is a ton of strategy involved as you add in elements such as gaining additional attacks through ally positioning, unique skills for each character, massive combos, movement limits, etc.  I initially wrote the game off, but it's really started growing on me.  It's like a hyperactive chess game where every move matters.  Throw in a roster of 165 unique recruitable characters, a wide array of equipable items, and a full fledged job system, and this starts to become really interesting.  I'm still very early on, but have been having an absolute blast with this.

It does have one huge, glaring wart though:  an IAP energy timer system.  Each battle requires stamina, which slowly recharges over time.  So you can only play for a set number of battles before your stamina runs out, or you can (of course) buy more through IAP.  This hasn't been an issue so far (I just play a few battles then set it aside), but I can see it being a deal breaker for some folks.

I'd give it a tentative thumbs up.  It's free to try, with the only cost being whatever you decide to pay in IAP.  Doubt it'll be something I play over the long haul, but it's certainly been a worthwhile diversion for the last few days.  Oh, and did I mention it has an Uematsu soundtrack?  smile

Website is , it has some details and gameplay vids.

Appreciate the heads up, sounded good till the timer shit, lost me there.  Wish they had a premium version, one time fee that removed that shit.  That's what it is, it's shit, and I'll never pay to extend a timer.  Fuck that.
127  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: October 08, 2014, 09:29:52 PM
I care not about the console war, or whatever, but I have lost a bit of faith in Ubi Soft for this debacle.

Debacle,  that is exactly what this is.  An avoidable, unnecessary debacle.

Will it make me not by AC?  No , I'm kinda tired of AC regardless of the resolution.

I find praise of the actual writing fairly baffling, as to my eyes/ears it is pretty amateurish and simple.  There is no elegance or love of language in there - he's just telling the story... plainly.

That is skillful writing. A good writer doesn't try to impress with his writing skillz. He lets the writing stay in the background, allowing the reader to focus unhindered on the story. This is one of the first lessons I learned when I got into writing. A writer isn't a showman trying to impress his readers with flair and clever sentences. He's a craftsman carefully laying down a story in a way that allows the readers to forget the writer was even there in the first place.

Wow great post Tilt, I agree completely.

Finally beat TLOU, loved it.  My GOTY by far, followed by Infamous.  Games like this are why I'll always love gaming.   A rare masterpiece.  Naughty Dog will get my money regardless what they release.

Finishing TLOU finally, may start the dlc.  Also thinking of buying Minecraft to play with my 7 year old daughter, is it fun split screen?

So stoked for this, and perplexed how ATB cannot tell the difference between 60 and 30 FPS.   I get not being able to tell resolution differences all that much, but I find FPS differences to be quiet jarring actually

Absolutely not because I'm not eligible for an upgrade, as my wife will be next month and will be getting the 6.  It's a great device, but personally after having larger devices, including the One and the Evo before it, I'm more inclined to feel the 5s is a perfect size.

Any mobile work I do is done on my iPad, which is enhanced by my jailbroke iPhone, so much.that I'm happy to wait.

Plus, I wear a suit every day and bigger is not better for me.

I'm near the end where you play as Ellie and am facing the boss guy (can't think of his name), I'm out of ammo and can't figure out how to beat him.  Every restart has me out of ammo, what is the catch?  I've not looked at walkthroughs at all.  Thanks .

ritt, you could always utilize the 14 day exchange policy and get the 6, just a thought.   I went from the 4s to the HTC One and felt that was too big.  I can't imagine carrying the 6+

My response to this type of thing may well be completely irrational .  It is as follows :  if you can't figure this out, forget it.   I'll quietly laugh while I read about another failed app.

I did this as well 2 weeks ago now and had some of your same fears.  We're now 90% unpacked, which is due to my lovely wife a lot more than me.   I  went with a moving company, but still on the day of the move I was stressed and exhausted.  It gets better, just look forward to enjoying you're new home.

We are having a birthday here tomorrow for an 82 year old with 15 guests , so it's possible to get it all done!

I agree with you about repairs though....  I made the mistake of utilize our realtors "home services" department, which claim they will handle they setup of all utilities.  Let's just leave it at that department didn't do shit and I wish I'd gone with my guy and done it all myself.  All are setup now, but the water was cut off for a brief moment, which now results in a fog horn sound when we flush the master toilet.  Ugh.

I'm still so burnout on FPS shooters that I know this isn't for me at all, not any more.

I want it to succeed very well though, for a handful of reasons (I.e. Shares owned!).

Hope you all and the rest of the world enjoy the hell out of it.  From playing the beta I do have a hard time understanding how this game cost. $500 million...

If you only win 2-3 itís still a better value than buying packs outright.

It will also still have the most polished apps, which is ultimately all I care about now.

I've owned many Amdroids and fine them fine, but when I switched from the Evo to the 4s r was night and day.

Later I switched my 4s for the HTC One, kept it for 13 days and traded for the 5S.

The idea that it not require a phone is ludicrous.

It may be ludicrous with today's technology, but in my opinion it's the only way these things will ever be worth a damn. I'm not spending $350 to carry around a piece of equipment that offers the same functionality as my phone as long as I'm also carrying around my phone.

Wake me up in a few years when I get most of the functionality of today's smartphones on my wrist, without being tethered to a brick. Heck, I don't even need Dick Tracy voice calls - if I could get email, texts, and GPS for fitness apps without being tied to another device I'd be interested.

It's just disappointing because this is not the future. This is a poor man's simulation of the future.

I don't actually disagree with that.
