I'm sure it will be on the PlayStation 4 too.  Why? Because the PlayStation for rocks. Thank you, have a good day.  I'm about to buy it on the computer regardless, just joking but can't imagine it not coming to both consoles if it is going to one.

Sony needs to step up their AAA title game for the PS4. Xbox One got Tomb Raider Remastered and PS4 gets more indies. In fact the only AAA title I can recall PS+ giving out is the DLC for Infamous.

Seriously? By your count  it is currently 1-1 on AAA titles (Tomb Raider vs First Light). The fact is Sony gives away 6 games per month and historically there have been some really great games in there. Also just last week Tomb Raider was on sale for $15 on the PSN, at that price it's a steal.

Agree completely,.

I am far from an expert, but with that many I don't think it matters much. My first thought is to buy a 5 ghz router. More channels, and most likely less interference from neighbors.

This router is 5 ghz, I have most devices connected to that to alleviate the issue.  Thanks! smile

Hey All,

I ended up starting Tomb Raider tonight and really dig it so far.  It actually reminds me of Uncharted 3 and that is a great thing.  I used the dual shock 4 and hooked up the laptop to my TV and it worked beautifully!  Also, FWIW, The Dual Shock 4 no longer needs a bluetooth dongle to use it wireless, I just used DS4Tool and it synced right away.  I can't believe how easy it was actually.

I also downloaded Europa Univ IV since it is free to play this weekend and played through the tutorial.  I actually think Crusader Kings II would be a little more appealing to me, and the GoT mod sounds pretty slick.

I am going to start Tomb Raider tonight.
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PC Game Recommendations on: February 25, 2015, 12:08:31 PM
Awesome advice everyone, and   Lee I actually meant Civ 5, I'm not that out of touch!  I am on Steam, but don't have an avatar yet.  It will be Arsenal as well, but I'll make it different than yours (Champions League today!)

Homeworld Remastered is a great recommendation, I played the first a little at a friends house and really liked it.

Also, Skyrim with mods is definitely on my list now as well, though I know is never actually beat it, still it will be a fun time.
I'll checkout Grey Goo too, I like   RTS's a lot, but am quiet picky about them.  I have the fondest memories of playing multiplayer C&C, AOE and Total Annihilation (Don't know how I forgot about this one last night).

Keep them coming.
15  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PC Game Recommendations - Update! on: February 25, 2015, 04:25:08 AM
It's been a really long time since I've gamed on the computer.  I used to play on the computer exclusively, until the 360 came out then I switched to consoles.  Anyway, I now have a gaming laptop and am looking for recommendations.  I also have a PS4 and am currently playing Fifa 15 and Diablo 3 on it.

Computer games that I enjoyed in the past include Age of Empires (is the recent remake of this any good?), Command and Conquer (Red Alert and Generals), Unreal Tournament, Counter Strike, Half Life 2, WoW (only for a while, this was crack and not good for my health), Baulders Gate and more...

I would like to have one strategy type game installed, and one other type (RPG, or Action or whatever).

Hearthstone is permanently installed on every device possible, so don't worry about mentioning it.

I'm not the biggest RPG fan, though I do like them and just haven't given them a try since Baulders Gate and Knights of the Old Republic.   I am considering Civ 3, Divinity Original Sin, Tomb Raider and will more than likely get Elite Dangerous.

I'm eager to hear other recommendations/thoughts.

16  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Update: Laptop Arrived and some questions on: February 25, 2015, 03:25:37 AM
Laptop arrived today and it was a breeze to setup.  It was so nice not having to uninstall any bloatware at all.  They didn't install one piece of bloatware, amazing!

I have a few questions regarding software, then some networking questions for those of you more knowledgeable than me.

Software Questions
1) I have always used Kasperysky for antivirus and haven't really researched anything else in a while.  Any thoughts?  Comcast gives it away for free and it has always seemed to review well.
2) On my old laptop I had video conversion software that came with it and it let me convert any video file to mp4 so that I can use it with the Apple TV.  Any suggestions on free video conversion software?
3) I use Google Apps email, (gmail back end, with my own domain name as the email address), and used to use Outlook or Thunderbird, but now that I rely on folders within Gmail so much I have started using the website.  I actually hate the gmail site now though and am curious if there are any pc options similar to the iPhone emails apps (not the stock app) that let you move emails to folders from within the app.

Network Question
1)  Over the weekend I purchased a cable modem to alleviate having to give Comcast any more money, and I also upgraded my router  (Asus - WirelessAC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Wireless Router).  The install went smoothly and everything seemed to work great on Sunday.  Monday however, I randomly dropped internet and it happened across all devices.  It has happened on and off since then and it always gives me 1 of 2 errors (when troubleshooting connection problems).  The first error is some type of DHCP error, and the 2nd error that happens more often is in the screenshot I've attached.  I have reset the router and that seems to have helped some, but it has dropped once since then and it gave me the proxy error.  This has happened on the old and new laptop, and my ipad.  Any thoughts?

It really is a sad state of affairs.  It seems like since the dawn of Xbox Live and PSN (more the former) people have become less civil every single year.  :/

I think people in general have become less civil, not just gamers.  I don't know what age I'll let my kids play games online with a mic, but it's closer to 18 than 12.

This update makes me happy, especially the part about no bloatware!

Quote
Your order is now placed into one of our specialized test benches in Sager’s production lab. A dedicated Sager Technical Engineer will carefully complete the requested customizations for your order. Your Technical Engineer has a passion for attention to detail & strives to build every system as if it was his own work of art.

Your order is also undergoing a grueling round of stress-testing validating the integrity & stability of your system. This ensures that every system that ships will be a rock- solid machine for years to come. The installation of the operating system, drivers/utilities & any applications that are specific to the system you ordered are completed here. Sager technicians do not install any bloat ware & keep your system clean! A Sager technician will also install testing & benchmark utilities & burn-in software necessary to scrupulously monitor your system’s performance throughout our testing & burn-in process. Afterwards, Sager performs a series of torturous tests that push the hardware components in your system to the very limit. This stage is especially important because it is in this process where the system either excels or fails. If it does fail, a Sager technician will identify any problems & resolve them before your computer system is shipped. If the computer system still does not pass tests, Sager will then re-build it with a new batch of components.

Your system is also undergoing a very thorough quality control analysis to identify any issues. A Sager Quality Assurance Inspector is meticulously inspecting your machine confirming the configuration & any special requests on your order, double checking the tests / benchmark results & checking for missing screws or loose components. Sager QA Inspectors are trained with an eye for attention to detail & ensure that every system leaves with the art of perfection. Depending on the complexity of your system, your system may spend two or more days in this phase before moving to the next phase or may even return to an earlier phase if a problem is found. Orders for Sager machines will have fewer Phase Status changes, as Sager’s Production is completed at Sager facility- not XOTIC PC’s production facility.

1.   Sager machines coming to XOTIC PC for further customizations or other services will be updated to Phase 3 (Sent For Custom Modifications) after Sager Inventory Allocation, Assembly & Build has been completed. Proceeding Phase 3 (Sent For Custom Modifications) XOTIC PC will perform a Final Testing & Quality Assurance Phase on your laptop by an XOTIC PC technician. (Note: XOTIC PC Custom Modification will incur additional production time to your order as listed with the customizations on your online order)

Estimated Shipment Dates will be updated one your items arrives to XOTIC PC.

2.   Sager machines coming to XOTIC PC for “No California Tax” will be updated to Phase 6 (Sager Shipped to XOTIC PC Nebraska Facility - No California Tax) after Sager Inventory Allocation, Assembly & Build has been completed.

Estimated Shipment Date: 3-5 Business Days (Mon-Fri) from the time of this update.

3.   Sager Machines shipping without any of the above will receive a Phase 7 (Packaged & Shipped) status update when Inventory Allocation, Assembly & Build have been completed. Sager Tracking information is provided to XOTIC PC the day following shipment & will be updated accordingly.

Estimated Shipment Date: 2-4 Business Days (Mon-Fri) from the time of this update.

A few questions...
1) I plan on using a controller for games where it makes sense to do so.  Is the DS 4 the best option and is it easy to setup?
2) I plan on using Steam for the first time in years, advice?
3) for those games that are good with a controller, would hooking it up to my tv be a good idea (55 inch)?
That doesn't look like a sub-1k laptop. ..
Good point.  I decided to get what I want this time and hope it will last longer.  This came in at around $1,600 which seems like a really good price to me.
Wise decision IMHO. I greatly prefer laptops that will have a longer useful life,  my m11x is still going strong 5 years later.

I hope so.  I can't wait till it arrives!  I haven't gamed on the PC in years, so I'm looking forward to catching up.

I'm in a bit of a rut on the PS4 now, only playing Fifa.  I burned out on GTAV and really want something like TLOU or Uncharted.

They love Kirby (the newest one), The New Super Mario Bros (she may surprise you, my 4 year old plays it fine), Nintendogs and Scribblenauts (May be hard of she isn't reading yet).

They also like bomberman (the ds version, I got it for $2), and they can play each other with one cartridge (mario also has this)

Wow, that looks like an amazing deal Mystic.  I have bookmarked and may pull the trigger.  The display alone is much better than most other sub $1k laptops.

Lee, I appreciate the insight.  I'm still considering a Mac, but my wife is completely against it.  I think the Surface Pro is interesting, but I already have a great iPad and don't really need another tablet type device (though it sounds like you don't really use it as a tablet).

I'm going to keep looking for deals, but the one Mystic shared seems hard to beat.  I've also been looking at the various Sager gaming laptops and see that some of them can be purchased for less than $1k.  The more I've thought about it, the more I do want to be able to game on it as my tastes in games has actually changed over the past few years.  I have the PS4 for the AAA games and Fifa, but I've been wanting to play some games like Civ etc.  Also, I'm eager to try out my dual shock 4 on the PC.

Anyway, any other advice?  I'm all ears!

I want to spend less than $1k and am somewhat torn on whether or not I want to game on it or not.   I have a PS4 and spend my gaming time there and on the iPad, but Steam is awfully tempting.

So I'm looking for recommendations.

I'm currently eyeing the Dell XPS 13, which is more of an ultrabook/slim/fast laptop with no gaming.  If I go the no gaming route I will likely go with the Dell, unless you all have other thoughts.

I'm really don't care one way or the other if it has a touchscreen and I would like an ssd.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

On a side note, I know it will never happen but it would be so cool if Blizzard ported D2 over to tablets in general...

It may not ever happen, but I love the idea!

This is a wonderful platform.  My kids and I have been playing it for months.

If you like It, I definitely recommend Dodo Master.

Also a great platformer.

Transistor, Apothean & Rogue Legacy for PS4.  That is strong, I've wanted to play all of those.

Thief and Rogue Legacy and some Japanese fighting game for PS3.
