241  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Neverwinter Nights 2 Impressions on: November 03, 2006, 09:08:38 PM
I picked this up yesterday afternoon at Fry's for $37.99 and installed it last night and processed the whopping patch.  I'm not too far into it yet (just got the shard after defending the town).  I'm enjoying it so far.  A few comments that echo most of what has been said already:

+  I think the graphics are very detailed and nice.  The system auto detected the highest settings and it runs fine.  I have a Duo E6600 with 2GB RAM and 7900 GTX 512MB RAM.
+  The voice overs are pretty good for the most part and add to the game nicely (a couple are mildly irritating.)
+  The story is compelling albeit almost identical to all RPG games of late, i.e. local farm boy/girl has a special 'gift' and saves the village and is the only person who can save the planet...
+  I've noticed a few interface glitches that typically plague 1.04 versions of software in their first week of release.  Nothing major.
+  As mentioned previously, combat can be agonizingly slow at times while you are waiting for your character to perform their next combat move.  I don't recall it being this noticeable BG1 & BG2, IWD1 & IWD2 and NWN1.  But it has been a while so maybe I just forgot.

Anyway, so far so good.  Those are my .02 after about 3 hours of playtime/exploration.
242  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Top 5 games of the past 3 years? on: October 31, 2006, 07:55:26 PM
Great topic.  I just upgraded my machine as well and will be looking forward to these games.

I can vouch for Half Life 2 and FarCry.  Both were excellent.

Based on what I am reading above, I'm going to definitely check out:

Company of Heroes
Riddick
Dawn of War
Max Payne 2 (I liked the first one)

I saw that Fry's Electronics (in California, Arizona and Texas) has this for $37.00.  No doubt it is the regular version (not sure if it is CD or DVD).  Just a heads up.

You can try using this to see if your local Best Buy has them in. It is generally more reliable than calling in.

Ah, cool!  Unfortunately, none of the six by me have any in stock, but you just saved me a ton of calling and driving around.

Thanks, I'll be checking this every morning.

if you're checking BestBuy, you can't just rely on checking the shelves...some keep them locked in a glass case, but others don't put them out on the floor at all.  not seeing them on the shelf does not always mean they don't have them in stock.

Good point, I forgot about that.  Thank you.
247  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360s available or not? on: January 26, 2006, 09:29:44 PM
Thanks for the feedback.  I'll probably start randomly checking by local Best Buy and see how it goes.  I was hoping to get one before Oblivion comes out.

So what's the story with the 360s now that the Christmas rush is over.

Can I walk into Best Buy and pick one of these things up now or are we still having "limited supply" issues?

I'm in Southern California if that matters.

I don't suppose that your I-war is I-War2?  I have been looking for that for quite some time!

Sorry, it is only I-War not I-War 2.

Doesn't CC actually beat a price, not just pricematch?

I think (but could be wrong) that is only if you already bought it at CC and then brought the add in later (up to so many days later.)  I think they give you back 110% of the difference.  Otherwise, they just match it on the spot.

On a $50 game that you can buy for $35 elsewhere, they would give you back $16.50 ($15.00 + $1.50 (10% of the difference)).  It's probably easier to just get them to price match up front (like I did) then come back later and get your extra $1.50.  Probably cost more than that in gas...

For those of you in the South and West, Fry's has Dungeon Siege II for $34.99.  You can always do what I do and take the add (usually on the back of the sports page) to Best Buy or Circuit City and have them price match it.

I did this yesterday at Best Buy.

258  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Neverwinter Nights & Baldur's Gate II books for Sale on: August 17, 2005, 12:05:20 AM
Hi all.

I was a member of the Gone Gold board and have been lurking here for a while.  Currently, I'm in the process of moving and trying to downsize.  I ran across a few books that someone might want:

Neverwinter Nights Official Worldbuilder Guide
Neverwinter Nights Official Adventure Guide
Sold as a set for $14 including shipping within the 48 states.

Baldur's Gate II Shadows of Amn Official Perfect Guide
Baldur's Gate II Throne of Bhall Official Perfect Guide

Sold as a set for $14 including shipping within the 48 states.

All four of these books are from the Versus Books series and contain detailed maps, etc.

I also have the Diablo II Official Strategy Guide by Brady Games.  I'm asking $7 which includes shipping within the 48 states.

I can provide photos of these books upon request.  I prefer paypal and will ship within one business day of receipt of your payment.

Please PM me if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Thank you.

Thanks for the response.

I've seen TrackMaina and I was going to pick it up.  It has the look of what I am looking for.

This other game sounds intriguing.  I'll see if I can google it and see what comes up.
262  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Good Racing Game on: August 11, 2005, 04:09:10 PM
Hi there.

I used to be a regular on the old Gone Gold forums and I've been a lurker here for a few weeks.

I've got the urge to play a good racing game along the lines of ReVolt which I'm sure some of you remeber as a remote controlled racing game.

Can anyone suggest a recent equivilent to ReVolt that is good mindless fun?

Thanks!
