I finally figured out how to unlock the Armamentalist and now everyone is back to lvl 1 with new classes. I think my four characters have close to 5 classes each with the highest being in the low 30s. I just keep working on side quests, grottos and alchemy components and forget the main story every once in a while. This is a very fun game.

Also, has anyone had any luck doing the quest for Brusque Lee where you have to use a War Cry on Scarewolves and finish them off? I hit them with the War Cry and then kill them and it does NOTHING. Driving me up a wall.
They have to be in the frightened state when you kill them. So basically you have to hit the with war cry and then kill them within a turn. I don't remember if you specifically have to kill them with your martial artist or not.
Update: Here's a thread on gamefaqs about it. You do have to kill them with your martial artist.
I just now finished this quest. I didn't even have a martial artist in my party. The person with War Cry was a priest during this quest. I noticed they were almost always going first so I went to try and finish the quest. My party was all lvl 12ish when I started and finished up lvls 13-14. It seemed kinda buggy though. I had to kill a couple extra Scarewolves with seemingly the right way but didn't get credit for them.
I played alot this past weekend. Got a main group into the low 30s in lvl. I just re-jobbed everone to work on some lower level quests for a bit. I don't think I'll ever kill a metal slime though, it's just too hard to keep them from running.

I want to try to change classes for some of my characters (like change my warrior to a gladiator), but I really don't want to go through the pain of having to level him up. Is there some way I'm not thinking of to get them from level 1 to level 17 (where my other characters are) that doesn't involve either going back to easy areas or keeping the level 1 in the hard areas and hope he doesn't get one-shotted?
If you take a new character to even a mid level area they will level up very quickly. Almost a lvl a battle for the first 5 or so lvls. I switched two lvl 15s to new classes. My third lvl 15 I kept. When the 3rd was lvl 23 the others were lvl 21. That plus you can switch back to the first class and you'll be where ever you left off. So my here is a lvl 21 Minstril a lvl 19 ranger and now a lvl 12 gladiator.
I bought the strategy guide yesterday because I'm having fun but felt I was missing alot of extra content. I had a party of a priest, ranger, thief and martial artist and was doing fine, now I'm leveling up in some new classes and playing around with stealing stuff and alchemy. I reckon I'll put 100+ hours into this game.
I'm still playing. I've still only played offline, but I've done most of the 5 star quests available. The 5 star bosses are tough, but I've beaten Barioth, Rathalos and Uragaan. Not beaten Diablos yet after multiple tries. The game is still fun and I'll have some time this weekend to finally try online perhaps.
We've had 5 Guys near us for about a year and they are very good. But we got a nearish Smashburger a few months ago and I like it much more than 5 Guys.
Well I killed the Lagaricus and opened up a new area with 4 new boss monsters to fight and they are mostly very hard. I really hate a lance on land, but for underwater fighting it is awesome. It made the Lagaricus do-able.
I think I'm gonna have to farm some of the newer 4 star bosses to make new armor. I'm using Baroth armor and it's feeling a little outdated. I could get Great Baggi armor fairly soon and I'd like Lagi armor, but that will take some time.
I played alot this weekend and now my 10 year old son is loving this game too. I've really gotten to the monster hunting portion of the game. There are loads of bosses to fight and they are each challanging in their own ways. This game is lots of fun, it's just so time consuming getting materials. I'm at about 60 hours played and have the quest to actually kill the Lagaricus, but not ready to try it just yet.
I can hardly wait to try to for the King's Frill; I finally managed to kill a GJ and have since killed a few more, but the Capture is now eluding me. On the first attempt, of course - the rat bastard died - so, FAIL! When I try to be more conservative in my approach, then I run out of Traps before he is captured. Next up is trying to Capture the ones who show up randomly now in the Woods, because I need more experience with traps. If I could carry twelve of them, I'd be fine!
I hope the entire remainder of the game isn't like this for me - having tons o' fun killing regular monsters, forging, fishing, gathering, questing, etc. - only to get stuck for days on that one quest I need to complete to move forward.
Btw, if anyone is still having trouble with BBQ'ing or Fishing, I have a system for each if you want to just go for a 90% - 95% cook/ catch rate. At the start, I'd lose a steak or a bait occasionally, but there's much less hit-or-miss if you are struggling with whichever talent - and they help you recognize the clues for 100% success in each... and then it's - you know - just a little practicing before you ace it/ them. Cooking:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Stare at the "U" shaped junction between the spit handle and the meat. At first, just watch for hitting the A button when the handle has turned 1/4 turn after the music stops. If you aren't in too dark of an area, you will start noticing the color changes better in peripheral vision than if you just stare at the roasting meat. When in doubt, hit the button earlier rather than later so you get at least a Rare steak, but you should soon be able to tell exactly when to hit A to get the Well-done version.
Fishing:
Spoiler for Hiden:
For normal, every-day fish (Sushi, Tuna, etc.) simply avoid hitting the A button on the first nibble. If the bobber/ lure goes well under the water on the first bite, you may get the fish, but you also may not. If you school yourself to not jump on the first bite, but to hit the next one where the lure is pulled underwater (often it's the third hit, for some reason), then you will succeed almost 100%. If you are Goldenfish hunting, they often don't pull the lure/ bait under until the 4th or 5th nibble, so you need to only strike when the bobber goes completely under after the nibbles. If you were having problems, a few rounds of this and you will be much better at fishing in general. Oh, and one more thing: just use the endless supply of worms nearby. Once you take the quest for Goldenfish, they are easy to catch (easier, imo) with worms than with the special bait! Trust me...
For the capture the Great Jaggi
Spoiler for Hiden:
Beat him up til he goes to area 6 to fall asleep, set the trap while he's asleep, hit him once to wake him up, lure into the trap then throww your tranqs.
Well, I took the kill Great Jaggi quest three times in a row at lunch. Used three different weapons and wounded his head all three times but did not get a King's Frill to drop. I never finished the subquest to knock him out though. Maybe completing both subquests would do the trick.

Help!
I've been playing alot lately, but not making much progress. I'm in the middle of the 3 * quests and can kill Great Jaggi, Qurupeco and Royal Ludroth without much trouble. I need to get better armor or weapons to kill Barroth, but I need rare drops from the other monsters that I'm just not getting. In 30 kill/captures of Great Jaggi I've gotten only 2 King's Frills, I've never gotten Flint from Qurupeco.
Anyone have any hints for getting these things?
Can't help you with Qurupeco, but to get the King's Frills from Great Jaggi, you have to be sure to break its crown/head. It helps to take the kill quests because breaking the crown is one of the subquests and thus you'll know when you've done it. Also, as you probably know, the frills are quest rewards, so killing a GJ in Moga Forest will never net you a frill (wow, that last phrase sounded like jabberwocky).
I had to take a break from the game recently so I haven't progressed much from Jaggi farming, but I've never NOT gotten a frill when I broke its head on a kill quest.
Well I'll try that. I did get a flint from Qurupeco last night. I can probably kill Great Jaggi 8 times at lunch. I'll do the quest each time and see what drops I get.

Underwater combat can blow me... You are at such disadvantage going up against major monsters to begin with, lets make it even more harder with little to no mobility underwater! I'm at the point in single player where I need to take out the Gobul and am ready to ditch the entire damn system out of frustration. Rocking Ludroth armor set with bone switchaxe+ and not having any luck landing good hits on this mother effer...
I just last night had to fight the Royal Ludroth underwater, was a challange, but I finished the quest with a few minutes the spare. The underwater combat was rough.
I'm still having fun, but I haven't been able to make anything new for awhile. It seems I'm always lacking at least one component for something I want to try and not knowing how to get the drop.
Woot! I caught the Great Jaggi on my first try. Was fun and traps are very cool. I used a big bone mace that I just made too. I'm liking the hammers atm.
I've been playing for awhile longer now, about 14 hours in. I just figured out that I can re-do earlier quests. I will probably start redoing more to farm for materials for some armor and weapon upgrades. I've done all the 1 and 2 star quests except the capture a great Jaggi quest. I think I'd like more powerful gear before I try that. I've also played around with some different weapons some. I like the hammer, but I've only used it a little. My best weapon now is a greatsword, but I don't like how slow I move with it.
This is a fun game, there's so much to do, I don't see getting bored for awhile.
Sharpened fangs can be gotten from sharqs (which look and bite like big sharks, but are categorized as generic fish when IDing them). No idea about the other thing.
Interesting.... I've killed a few of the sharks, but I don't think I've ever gotten a drop. The corpses usually just dissappear. I'll whack at something a few times with a harpoon, but I've never killed anything with one. I always have to finish water stuff off with my sword.
Here are some more impressions from me, a new to MH player after about 5 hours.
There seems to be plenty to do. I've done the tutorials and about 3 guild quests but I've mostly played around in Moga Forest alot. Nothing in Moga Forest seems too dangerous, I haven't passed out yet. I'm finally getting the hang of adding monsters to the guide, it's a pain to do though.
I run around gathering stuff from different areas of the map. I'm not sure what most of it is for, but I'm keeping everything until I run out of pack room. I then usually return to the village to empty my pack and see what I've got. I like the fact that I can combine stuff in my storage and at the blacksmith without it all being in my pack, that pack space is limited. I've upgraded my sword twice. I noticed that it upgrades my shield when I do it. I have leather armor, a couple pieces at lvl 2. I've made some stuff out of mystery combines, but the only things that I know are useful are the mining picks (they break all the time) and bug nets.
No trouble killing stuff yet, although sometimes it's hard to loot when other stuff is around. I haven't seen anything really big or scary yet.
I think I've been all over the Moga Woods map, even found a couple of "hidden" areas. I've only found one spot to fish though.
I'm having a good time and can't wait to spend more time. Maybe even eventually adventure online.
Bought this yesterday and played a little tonight. This is my first Monster Hunter and I'm taking things slow. Seems very fun so far, but I haven't gotten comfortable with the interface yet. I need to figure out how to put monsters in the journal in action because the descriptions don't make sense to me written down.
I've played alot more now. This game is very fun. There is so much more to do than the first game. The salvaging treasure mode is quite fun too. Two thumbs up from me.
I got this yesterday and played for about 3 hours now. It's alot like the first one, but this time there's a little more to do. I'm really enjoying the time I've spent so far and I'm eager to get back to it. Very relaxing game. So different than most, but done very well.
I was definately not a hardcore Shiren player, although I played alot and finished the main crawl. I didn't do any of the dungeons that opened up after that.
It was pure movie magic! I was in awe of the world Cameron created. I haven't felt that sense of wonder in a movie in a long time. Probably Star Wars when I was a child. I'm still a little overwhelmed at the movie today.
And for The Grue. My 10 year old son loved the movie and thought it was appropriate enough for him. We both want to vacation at Pandora, too bad it's make believe.

This is really cool. These are family totals.
Rock Band One - 144 hrs Wii Sports - 122 hrs Rock Band Two - 103 hrs Mario Cart Wii - 95 hrs Super Smash Bros. - 88 hrs Wii Fit - 61 hrs Lego Star Wars - 57 hrs Rune Factory: Frontier - 45 hrs Boom Blox - 38 hrs De Blob - 32 hrs
Holy crap! I thought I had high numbers! :o
I was surprised by those totals too, but then I thought my kids like to play alot too. The Lega Star Wars and Super Smash Bros. are almost all my kids, and they add alot to Rock Band and Wii Sports too.
I am still watching, but the pregnancy story lines are really turning me off. They are both stupid and unbelievable. I hope they get shoved to the wayside soon.
