1  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Bands You've Never Seen In Concert But Wish You Could/Had/Will on: February 18, 2014, 05:38:57 PM
I'll say Oingo Boingo too.

When I was a senior in high school Oingo Boingo came to Houston to play a small club.  It was Valentine's Day weekend and I had a date with a girl I liked the night of the show.  A friend went to the show...
My date was not memorable in any way.  Oingo Boingo played a 3 hour show (Dead Man's Party tour). My friend met the band after the show and has the t-shirt signed by all of them.

Damn... I made the wrong choice.
2  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Worlds End-Simon Pegg/Nick Frost/Edgar Wright on: August 30, 2013, 12:08:17 PM
Saw this last night and loved it.  Loved the movie, loved the music, thought the ending was just ok, but that didn't stop me from loving the movie.

Of course I loved Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz too, so I'm right in the target audience.

Spoiler for Hiden:

Apparently, some people are buying it.

I've run into people who watched the Mermaids: The Body Found "documentary" on Discovery and were convinced to at least question their existence.   Head meets wall
My friends and I are working on the script for our "Unicorn Hunters" show.  Hopefully look for it on TV soon.  icon_cool

I bought...

Warlock:  Master of the Arcane and it's DLC.  (think it's total was $8.46)

I love this game and have 344 hours on it according to Steam.  I can't wait for this expansion!
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xenoblade coming to Europe, presumably US on: May 14, 2012, 03:34:26 PM
I'm still plugging away with this game.  I'm at Earyth Sea/Alcamath and finding this area confusing so far.  Very hard to move around on Earyth Sea.

There is so much to do in this game.  I'm 30 hours in and feel like I'm barely scratching the surface of things even though everyone is lvl 41.  I've been switching out different parties to help raise everyone's affinity but that's slow going.  I hear there's a way to trade shinies with people, but I haven't really figured out how to do that yet.

Still having a blast when I can play.

I'm really bad at combat so far.  Almost every named will kill my party.  I'm just getting started though, maybe I will improve.

I'm just chiming in to say I bought this yesterday and I've played about an hour.  I really have no opinion yet as I'm just running around the first town area getting the lay of the land and taking on quests.

Fishing Resort for the Wii.  -- I've wanted a good fishing game for a long time and this one is really good.  You get to fish on and around an island and there are many different starting at a beach resort.  Every fish you catch earns fish points which you can use to buy better gear and fish in different areas.  I think there are 200 different varieties of fish to potentially catch.  The fishing mechanics are fun and simple but feel right.  I've gotten 30 hours of fun out of this $20 dollar title.

Dungeons of Dredmore for the PC.  -- Another budget title ($5) for a graphical Roguelike with a wicked sense of humor and loads of dungeon crawling options and plenty of challange.  This is a great game.

Then David Bowie.  Music is important to me and he's the most influential musician for the stuff I enjoy.

14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New to the 3DS. What games to buy? on: August 15, 2011, 09:24:00 PM
It looks like I haven't missed any can't miss releases for my tastes.  I will see how long I enjoy Zelda (my kids will love that one too) and then see what else is out.

I enjoyed the DS as much as any platform over the last several years so I have high hopes that great games will come to the 3DS.

15  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / New to the 3DS. What games to buy? on: August 15, 2011, 04:05:51 PM
I bought a 3DS for me and the family Saturday with the price drop.  I bought Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  What are the good games that are out now and what should I look for in the coming months?

I usually like RPGs and Strategy stuff on the DS, plus some fun puzzle and action games.  Doesn't look like there's much out now that I'd really like, but I might be sold on something and I'm sure there will be good stuff be Christmas time.
16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dungeons of Dredmor on: July 14, 2011, 08:35:39 PM
I got to play again and did much better.  Even leveled up a couple of times.  I died after opening a chest of evil and the alien inside it killed me. (duh)

Very fun so far.
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dungeons of Dredmor on: July 14, 2011, 05:57:56 PM
I bought this today.

I played the tutorials and a tiny bit on medium where I died quicky on both tries.  I'm not a very experienced rogue-like player though.  Seems like tons of fun to be had.  I'm going to keep trying on medium when I get to play more later.  I might go down to easy if I get frustrated.

I have had a 3DS in my hands twice and I couldn't pull the trigger.  I loved my DS more than I ever thought I would and I want a 3DS, but there just aren't any games for it right now that have my interest.

For me it depends on what I'm in the mood for hearing.  I think volume has something to do with cheering up as well.  When music I like is loud, it's just better.  I've been listening to more new bands lately than old favorites.

New cheerful bands.

It has to be The Chameleons.

They were never well known, and never had any mainstream success but they were brilliant.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSyXorEmXqk Their 1983 song "Second Skin".  One of their best.

I finally got the chance to see this yesterday.  I really enjoyed it.  It started a little slow but it was very funny and touching movie.  Kristin Wiig was hilarious.  And the homage paid to many previous sci-fi movies was very well done and very funny too.

I reccomend this.

26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: King's Bounty Crossworlds on: February 07, 2011, 06:47:09 PM
I've been playing this lately too.  I played Armored Princess through once before and I'm now playing the new expanded campaign through.  This time I'm a mage, the last time a paladin.  I kinda got squeezed somewhere in the middle of Verona.  I came close to running out of money and stuff I could handle.  After struggling through that the world opens up pretty quickly.  The struggle might be just random bad luck on troops to recruit, but I seem to remember having the same thing happen the first time I played.

Very fun game that I'm enjoying even though there's newer stuff around.

Biggest surprise.

Dragon Quest IX on the DS.  I never played any of these games before.  I sank 275 hours into the game which more than doubled any other hand held game I've ever played.  Very fun game.

That nearly triples the most time I've ever spent with a game in my entire life.  I can't even imagine spending that much time on one thing.

It really boggles my mind as well as that triples anything else I've ever played.  It was mostly all endgame stuff.  I would just play grottos all the time until I just finally got tired of everything.  My hero was a revocated 3 times gladiator plus alot of everything else and my other 3 party members were lvl 99 in multiple classes.

I'm really liking this game. Perhaps even more than I did Dragon Quest 8 (?) on the PS2.

Are these grottoes you guys mention the same thing as "treasure map" caves or something different? I keep getting the feeling that I'm unintentionally missing a bunch of stuff. And what level were you guys when you "beat" it? I think I may have spent a bit too much time power leveling as bosses have been pretty easy lately. Most of my guys are between levels 30 - 40 in their main class and most have leveled to around 20 in at least one other class. I just beat
Spoiler for Hiden:
the dragon hero guy (don't remember his name). But all it took to beat him was for me to psyche up my two fighter characters to 100 and then do one attack each.

The Grottos are from treasure maps.  When you beat the boss of one (quite a bit harder than the story bosses) you get another map.  Usually the new map is harder than the one you just beat.  I think I was around lvl 40 when I beat the main story, so your lvls seem about right there.

Must be Luminary because it is the only class I've not unlocked.

You can't get the Luminary quest until after you beat the main story.  I've not yet seen the monster I need to complete it and I'm doing lvl 50ish grottos.

How do you mean he doesn't need them as gladiator?  Why not dump a ton of points into ranger for the great stat boosts?

I have 42 points in Ranger skills.  While I'm playing as a Gladiator, I'm running at 100 in sword and 100 in Gladiator skills.  I have 100 in shield so my Gladiator can equip a shield.  I have those 148 skill saved up, because I'm not sure what skill I'll want in the future.  I hope to unlock the Luminary soon, maybe I'll want to lvl up those skills, or maybe one of the weird weapons I'm not using atm like fans.
38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Quest IX on the DS?(confirmed) on: August 16, 2010, 09:29:09 PM
Yeah, I have changed classes a bunch.  My hero is a lvl 64 Gladiator, 37 Ranger, 34 Minstrel, 28 Martial Artist, 27 Warrior, 23 Thief, 21 Paladin and 20 Priest.  Everyone has the Thief skill half-inch for quicker stealing.  I'm hoping to unlock the Luminary soon and I'll probably start a lvl 1 party over when I do.  My hero also has 148 unused skill points that I'm sure he'll use eventually, but doesn't need them as a Gladiator.

I've now put it over 150 hours and I beat my first legacy boss last night.  Didn't know what it was til it asked me to donate my exp. for beating it to it so it would lvl up.

My main crew is in the 60s now except my Sage who's lvl 58.  I'm doing Grottos and random side quests.  I'm still having fun and getting to see new content every time I play.  This game has surpassed Final Fantasy Tactics A2 as my most played DS game.
