1  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: [contractor costs] Replacing gas furnace and air conditioning in condo on: January 26, 2013, 09:16:45 PM
We had our HVAC system replaced in our house 2 years ago.
We purchased a Trane system and have been very happy.
Ended up with a 95% natural gas furnance and 20 seer AC unit.
It cost us $9000 for the system.  It is extremely efficient and the savings really
show up in our gas and electric bills.

5  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Harrisburg, PA on: November 22, 2011, 11:01:51 PM
I live in Hershey which is about 8 miles east of Harrisburg.  Harrisburg itself is not the most ideal area to live. The city is bankrupt and may possibly have some kind of state control board imposed on it.  The surrounding area is very nice though.  In general is it kind of a rural area.  I moved to Hershey 2 years ago and love it here.  If you have more specific questions let me know or send me a PM.

As stated above Gettysburg is 30-45 minutes away, there is a AA minor league baseball team with a newly redone stadium that is very nice.  If you like hockey there is the Hershey Bears, they are
the minor league team for the Washington Capitals.  There also is Hershey Park and some other attractions in Hershey as well.

6  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: My first monitor dies - in spasms on: October 25, 2011, 03:55:23 PM
Your caps on the power supply have gone bad most likely.  You can fix it yourself if that is the issue and you
are able to do a little soldering.

My Samsung was doing the exact same thing.  I disassembled the monitor and it had 4 bulging caps.
Replaced them and the monitor works great.  I spent about $10 to fix it.

I was streaming the show via Netflix, not watching a DVD.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bering Sea sank my Xbox 360 on: June 12, 2010, 01:31:31 AM
I started watching "Deadliest Catch" about 4 weeks ago through Netflix on my Xbox.  Started with season 1 and have made it most of the way through season 5.  I turned on my Xbox tonight to watch the final 3 episodes and man overboard.  The Xbox could no longer take the 70 knot winds and 35 foot waves of the Bering Sea.  The red ring of death has finally arrived.  My crab fishing days are over...

15  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Movie] Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time on: May 29, 2010, 04:26:35 AM
The entire family went to see it earlier tonight.  If you are under the age of 12yrs (my daughter is 8yrs old, she liked it), then you will probably like it.  Over the age of 12, it is a generic, cliched, and poorly written action movie.  They should have went back in time and written a better script.  The characters are all one dimensional.  I was hoping they would all die at the end.
16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Borderlands - Reviews, impressions and discussions on: May 24, 2010, 12:39:22 PM
If you hold down the "pickup" button when looting you will switch weapons.  If you just tap the button when picking up a weapon it will go into your inventory.  Yes there are more claptraps.  They are in the "dungeon" zones.  After one play through you will have about 35-40 inventory slots.
17  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: TV/Movie Recommendations on: May 19, 2010, 02:28:44 AM
Spartacus: Blood and Sand  was very good I thought.  Just watched the entire season last week.  If you have Netflix, you can stream the whole season.

Your best bet is an ATI 4850 with 1gb memory.  They are around $100-125.  What is your CPU/motherboard and power supply?
19  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Waiting for my doggie to get out of surgery on: April 15, 2010, 03:24:15 AM
I am glad your dog is doing well.  Only about <10% of surgeries need an e-collar.  Most dogs will not bother their incisions to any significant degree.  Most subcutaneous growths are lipomas, which are benign fatty tumors.  These are very common on middle-age to older dogs.  They can get quite large sometimes (volley ball size).  Elliptical incisions are made around the growth in order to have adequate closure of the area.  Sometimes people are a little surprised how long the incision can be.

20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: XBox 360 A/V cable question on: April 11, 2010, 08:12:59 PM
Do you have access to a friend's cable maybe?  That would eliminate the cable as the issue and then you could troubleshoot the Xbox itself.  I would try another cable.  Have you also tried hooking your system up to another TV, just on the off chance it is your TV.
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: XBox 360 A/V cable question on: April 11, 2010, 04:51:32 PM
I'm confused, when you say "standard A/V cable" which hookup are you talking about.  The basic yellow, red, white cable(non-HD) or the red-green-blue component HD cable?

28  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Kinda strange issues (video?) on: March 21, 2010, 07:50:00 PM
Try underclocking the memory timings on your video card.  My previous 8800GT had to have its memory timing lowered in order not to lock up my computer, then it worked fine.  It may not be your problem, but its easy to try.
29  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Tim Burton-Alice In Wonderland on: March 07, 2010, 05:44:12 AM
I took my daughter to see it today.  It was average.  As usual the sets/costumes were typically good as in most of Tim Burton's films.  The story wasnt very good, no real surprises.  I keep looking at my watch the last 30 minutes or so.  I would give it 2 out of 4 stars, just for the visuals.  I did not see the 3-D version, just 2-D.  I dont think is would have made much of a difference.

34  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Water Heater on: February 19, 2010, 01:22:30 AM
Most electric water heaters run $250-$600 depending on size and if they have any energy saving features.  The advantage of a tankless water heater is you do not run out of hot water and they are much more energy efficient so over the long haul they may save you money.  They cost more upfront, somewhere in the range of $1000-$1500.

Can I piggy-back on this thread?

My cat has recently developed a bad case of a snotty nose, complete with really long dangling cat boogers. (A great mental image if there ever was one, I know)

I need to take him to the vet because I'm really worried but any similar experiences?

I am a veterinarian, so I might be able to help.  Upper respiratory infections (URI) are common in cats.  Usually they are viral infections, similar to a person getting a cold.  Viral URI are most commonly a herpes virus, causing sneezing, clear nasal discharge, swollen eyes and clear discharge from the eyes as well.  URI can be serious, especially in kittens or adults with other chronic medical conditions.

Now if your cat is having mucous nasal discharge, and sounds very congested, or isn't eating/lethargic, then he/she could have a bacterial URI and need antibiotics.  My disclaimer comes next:  internet diagnosing is not always accurate, so there could be something else going on as well.  See your local veterinarian, its better to be safe.   Also, you didn't say how old your cat is or how long he/she has been ill.  More information is always helpful.  I hope this helps you and your cat.

He played Horace the Darhma leader of the 70's in the last season of Lost.  He was also in the movie The Green Mile, he played the a-hole prison guard.  His name is Doug Hutchinson.
37  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Which car should I purchase? on: January 15, 2010, 01:56:50 PM
We purchased a Toyota Highlander about a year ago.  Very roomy on the inside, it can easily hold up to 7 people as long as they are not NFL/NBA players.  It is basically a mini van that doesnt look like one.
38  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: LCD TV color help. on: December 31, 2009, 04:28:53 PM
Your Sammy plasma is going to produce a much better image then your Toshiba LCD.  You wont be able to get the Toshiba to look like the Sammy.  In general plasmas produce a better image then LCDs.
39  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Vista can't do windows update on: December 23, 2009, 01:39:37 AM
My parents-in-law computer was loaded with some viruses.  I was able to remove them but when i tried to update windows i got a similar error message.  It turned out one of the viruses erased a registry key that was needed for windows update to function.   I manually entered the registry key and everything worked great and windows update did its magic, hehe.
40  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Cat breaks stove = bye bye for kitties on: December 23, 2009, 01:31:26 AM
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.  You need to go to your doctor and get some antibiotics if you havent done so yet.  Cat bite wounds have a high chance of infection and they can become a serious problem if ignored.
