OMG I just submitted that and saw how huge it was LOL sorry
2802  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Sportsman of the year...Peyton Man... on: December 08, 2004, 11:37:41 PM
Okay Im prob gonna just get labelled a Brady fanboy for this but what the hell smile  1) I dont think he got the credit he deserved (along with the NE Pats in general) for what they've done for the past 3 years.  I read a magazine at the beginnin of this season listin the best teams of the AFC and the Pats weren't even there.  They only started gettin the national attention when people were like "holy shit, this team is gonna win a bunch straight" Which doesnt even matter because as any sportsman Im sure would tell you, its all about this year, and this ring.  The national media pretty much ignored them up until that point because frankly the team didnt have an overpriced superstar and reporters woulda had to do their homework to figure out what makes em click and not just say "blah blah blah Manning" "blah blah blah Owens" etc etc.  And Brady is a very good quaterback.  Again, people dont recognize it because because the reason hes good takes a lil bit of homework - he doesnt throw 15 million touchdowns a game, he doesnt put up 1000 yards a half.  What he DOES do (and there is absolutely NO stat for this) is work through his progressions in an amazingly fast way.  He reads defense and has an impeccable sense for gettin the ball to the open guy for the split second he is open.  And while he may only have 120 yard games (this year) those yards come on crucial downs.  Bledsoes #s destroyed Brady's, but ya know what?  On 3rd and 7 or 8 with Bledsoe, I knew the Pats were puntin 7 or 8 times outta ten - with Brady its the opposite.  You cant rate that.  Finally, and the biggest point - HE HAD NO RUNNING BACK!  As much as I appreciated Smiths 2 or three yard grinds in short downs, the national media said he sucked.  The guy doesnt play anymore.  And again, Faulk is good but is he a primary runnin back?  For 2 years this team relied on Brady completin 3 - 4 yard quick drops as a sub for the run, and he did it.  Thats impressive - especially since just last week Madden the great god himself (blah smile said you cant win in this league without a runnin back.  The Pats did it for 3 years.  Is Brady the only reason?  Dear god no the Pats are probably (and I think this is the greatest thing you can say about a sports program) one of the greatest TEAMS ever.  Do other QBs come up with better numbers?  Yes.  But Id be curious to see what the Pats would have been like with Manning during this time, because I dont think theyd be where they are today.  He holds the ball too long, he gets sacked under pressure he throws to Marvin Harrison and has had the run threat of Edgerrin freakin James.  The Pats won a Superbowl with not one #1 on the line 3 rookies at WR a 35 plus who WASNT EVEN DRAFTED as the closest to their "go to" and a runnin back who doesnt play in the league (and not in the good Ricky Williams I wanna get high instead way smile  We're talkin "I cant get a job" not playin way.  Sorry for rantin, just my 2 cents and just because he doesnt have insane numbers doesnt mean he isnt a phenominal QB.  I think the media feels so bad for droppin the ball in recognizin that for 3 years they're makin up for it by hypin Roesthisberger (or whoever).  And not to take away from him, but his first 7 games, he threw less than 17 passes.  And again, the guys got Jerome and freakin Duce, either one several teams would kill to get.  But keep an eye on him because hes another of these quick progression guys that knows when to kick that ball out and to whom to get it.  Hope ya enjoyed the (lengthy) read smile
2803  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / How have CG's forums changed since the flood of GG refugees? on: December 08, 2004, 10:33:43 PM
Ive been here for a lil bit readin and only started postin recently.  I dont mind it at all.  There's a bit more of the "threads gettin off topic as we smash the stupidity of others" stuff every now and then, but not enough to really ruin the experience.  Its more than offset by the increased volume of good threads... and Im not sure I would have been able to bullshit as much durin the ALCS and WS without the influx of GGers  smile (I was a LONG time visiter to that site - actually since just before PC Gamer mentioned the site for the first time but really never once checked out the forums, just Rich's front page stuff).
2804  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / KoTOR 2 : The Sith Lords Impressions on: December 08, 2004, 04:58:28 AM
Person askin if game was broken...

I dont have the game, so take this with a grain of salt - but it doesnt necessarily sound like you entered it wrong.  Remember before KOTOR happened, many Jedi DID fall sway to Revan's teachin - he WAS the Dark Lord after all.  And maybe theyre fillin in about the Civil War (which we are to assume gave rise to Malack (was that his name???)) that occured after the Jedi stole Revan and reprogrammed him.

Like I said I haven't played the second one, but this does sound consistant with fillin in some backstory of what happened before KOTOR took place.  Maybe later youll start findin people who talk about Revan "comin to his senses" and savin the galaxy?  (ie the stuff you did durin the game... not what occured beforehand?).  Someone tell me if Im completely off base and misinterpretin what happened to your particular game.  If not see if the above makes sense in hindsight when you rethink the conversation.
2805  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / KoTOR 2 : The Sith Lords Impressions on: December 08, 2004, 12:44:20 AM
Oh, and a couple more... how linear is the game? (I know its prob pretty early for most... and do try to be spoiler free smile

Is there a lot of variety - the same kinda "planet hoppin" from the first?  Are there many worlds to visit, many side quests?  (I'm hopin more for the BG II style, do this quest get a fortress kinda thing - NOT well you can drop off that piece of junk you found to NPC X and get some exp).  Thanks!
2806  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / KoTOR 2 : The Sith Lords Impressions on: December 08, 2004, 12:30:58 AM
Do the new feats go a ways toward varyin up the combat a lil though?  Thats what I was hopin for (though at heart I find the combat pretty enjoyable even though I've been doin it since BG... which means BG I + II, IWD I + II, expansions, KOTOR... etc)... so hopefully a "few new moves" will breathe air into what we've been doin for how many years now? smile  Do they feel "gimicky" or are they really genuine new ways to approach things?
2807  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / QUESTION (Mods + readers): Karma thing from GG on: December 06, 2004, 09:58:33 PM

2809  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / QUESTION (Mods + readers): Karma thing from GG on: December 06, 2004, 09:50:18 PM
Did anyone ever use the section of tradin where people put up games they were willin to give away, anyone could claim them as long as they put up somethin in return?  Is there any possibility / and / or desire to do this here?  You could get some neat older (and quite often new) games that you may have missed, hesitated on, or flat out cant get anymore.  Would something that this hold interest?  Console game exclusive or otherwise - is this worth the time investment (and of course the need for donations smile

Just an idea

2811  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Fight Night 2004 on: December 06, 2004, 09:25:18 PM
I found it very fun - punchin blockin and movement is handled phenominally (and pretty realistically I might add).  The learnin curve can be a bit high at first (gettin your fingers to throw fast enough to the open area, and quickly combo to other areas) but once you get it down it really is absolutely solid in the ring - you'll find yourself bobbin, weavin blockin what you cant then comin back with a combo to his now open jaw after the missed sweepin right - pretty awesome stuff.  Plus its got a neat lil mini game system to up various stats (i found some VERY hard though - but dont worry there's an option asked EVERYTIME to auto play - so you can do the ones you're best at and let the comp do the rest - I find this to be kinda cheatin though smile
Other pluses - you face a good variety of fighters - from big slow bruisers, straight out power punchers, speedy lil guys thatll take you to the end and everywhere in between.  And finally, if you like the whole collection thing thats there too with a huge variety of shorts, gloves shoes etc to amass, as well as your own theme music and crazy over the top entrances (yes, there are doves smile
2812  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The games you've been playing on: December 06, 2004, 09:17:15 PM
Halo 2 (multi mostly)

Demon Stone (rent and beat but it was fun for the 2 days I played it smile

X-Men Legends (also never into comics, but I'm the Snowblind engine's whore smile  - except I do second whoever said Fallout SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED! (I remember someone sayin 101 wasnt that great too)

I really would like to be playin KOTOR II, but I wanna leave SOME present out there for X-mas (yes I know, the loved ones in my life spoil me smile
2813  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So ah... there's some Star Wars game comin out tomorrow... on: December 06, 2004, 09:07:18 PM
Hey and Thin no worries about the MA2 posts this is a game I'm incredibly stoked for too - if you or anyone else wants feel free to start jabberin about that game in here too!  And thanks for the heads up I had no clue it was comin out at the end of the month *drool*  See you guys on live???
2814  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Gameboy Multicarts? on: December 05, 2004, 08:50:07 PM
Don't call the police - the people responsible for the piracy already made their money selling to whoever the poor guy was trying to make a few extra bucks at the flea market.  Notify Ninetendo about the website distributing them and let them deal with those responsible for the mass distribution production etc of pirated carts.  DON'T get the lil guy nailed / arrested / sued etc, 'cause if he could deal with those sort of problems he probably wouldn't be out selling shoddy bootleg goods from a Bingo table.  He's living the capitalist dream, not pirating carts smile
2815  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / So ah... there's some Star Wars game comin out tomorrow... on: December 05, 2004, 05:17:47 PM
... is anyone pickin this up or do ya think we should wait for bargain bin smile  But yeah seriously I'll make this now so people can start throwin up their impressions as they get em.  Do any of you lucky bastards at games stores have copies stashed under the counter to take home tonight?  Will our heads collectively explode once again at the shear awesomeness of the game???  Please don't let it be a rushed cash in please...
2816  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / IGN Jak 3 review. 9.6 on: December 05, 2004, 12:31:03 AM
More than GTA, these two games (Jak and R&C) make me want to snag one of those new-fangled PStwos.  I've always been jealous of you guys for them because they looked like so much fun - from characters to weapons to levels.  I wish they were "exclusive" like GTA and Splinter Cell are "exclusive" - come on guys straight ports aren't always bad if the games are so entertainin!
2817  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne....where's the love? on: December 04, 2004, 08:09:11 PM
I dont even have a PS2, but I DO remember a post a few weeks back about the game - people were very excited and overall very happy with it - I'll hunt around and see if I can find the thread it was in and post it so you can get a better idea from peeps who actually own the system (novel idea right??? smile

Here ya go - you have to scroll down to get to the impressions though - if you dont mind a lot of combat seems to be interesting...
2818  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [Xbox] Goblin Commander , Deus Ex 2, Other -- What to get? on: December 04, 2004, 07:30:39 PM
I never played Goblin Commander, but I do agree it always looked interesting.  I DO know a lil' bit about Deus Ex though - if you played the first game and enjoyed the depth story and character upgrades you will be a lil' bit underwhelmed and disappointed by IW.  I have to second pickin up Goblin Commander - you already have a similar (superior, some would say) basketball game, and for the same price as Deus Ex, you can BUY Goblin Commander and rent Deus Ex - its fun to play but for me anyway didn't justify buying (actually, scratch that - I rented it - bought it and took it back before I even unwrapped it smile  If it were more like Deus Ex and less like IW it would have been incredible smile  If you do get Goblin game, let me know how it is.  If you're in to the whole console RTS and can find it cheap already look for Kingdom Under Fire - I love this game, the unit tree and RPG style upgrades are fantastic if you don't mind the slight button mashing in combat (I look at it as hey, it gives you something to do instead of just watchin your guys fight smile  It was just released, but at a $40, so you might be able to dig it up cheap???  If you can grab that
2819  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dark Wizard Help Needed (SegaCD) on: December 03, 2004, 09:23:58 PM
OMG!  I was totally going to go out and buy a SegaCD direct before I saw that link too!!!  smile  Sorry, I just wish the hardware/ software industry would take a pill when it comes to ancient titles and systems.  Seriously, I have a strong appreciation for copyright/ licensing laws but you'd think that they'd lax up on some of these old franchises.  Especially if they plan modern re-makes - how many 15 year old kids do you think were like Prince of who now?  I guess I'll just get Tomb Raider 47 - warez of out of print games are decent ways to build buzz.

That said I entirely respect CGs policy, no, obligation in the current environment for warez and emulators.  But I had to crack at least a minor joke smile
2820  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone pick up CoD: FH or Demon Stone? on: December 03, 2004, 09:15:05 PM
Second Gratch's opinion (or is that third?).  Exactly the same as LOTRII, but def worth a rental (it is short, not much replay).  Plus is anyone else pissed about the "hands on" preview OXM game of this game?  How can you mention "hack + slash roleplayer" / action RPG / Baldur's Gate DA like game when it is in fact nothing like BGDA???  And not ONCE mention LOTR???  And in case you missed my point - mention BGDA at least 3 times???  My opinion of the magazine goes down constantly (this is without even gettin' into the reviews - which are more like previews).  I wish they'd pick up some PC Gamers from like 1998 - 2000 to see how to write a review (which is ironic because wasnt Smith EIC during some / all of that time?).  Just my two cnets.

2824  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Best Cast Ever in a Movie on: October 28, 2004, 11:06:40 PM
Yes I think Bridge Too Far was pretty surefire with quantity of talent and quality of performance.  Others I second - Jeff toss a 2 on the end of that godfather and you get DiNero but lose Caan - Id just consider 1 - 2 halves of the same movie 'cause I dont want to go w/o either of those smile  Snatch I second very good movie.  Also, have to throw out Royal Tenanbalms (spelling?).  This is a bit of a love hate one with people but I couldnt get enough of it.  Also - Traffic.  This ones impressive for performance and camera work.  Great line up, fun thread

2827  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [P] Majority of Bush supporters think Iraq had WMD on: October 23, 2004, 01:05:22 AM
The scariest thing for me about Iraq and weapons is what occured AFTER the US invasion.  Do you know that sites which were the location of Saddams pre-1991 weapons programs were left utterly undefended after the initial invasion and up to the current time?  UN inspectors were responsible for monitoring the installations, but they took off out of there after the US started bombing the *hit out of the place (obviously no more sanctions or inspections after US occupation).  The single worst part?  These installations were left unguarded and summarily dismantled over the period of MONTHS by elements unknown.  The US military doesnt know where they are, the Iraqi government doesnt know where they are - all they know are that where the pre-1991 facilities once stood there is now virtually nothing but a stripped foundation (this was seen over a period of months w/ sats).  Whos got em???  All this occuring after the fall of Saddam when no one in the US thought it would be a good idea to keep an eye on em.  To me THIS is the greatest WMD issue to come out of Iraq.

2829  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Gaming News: B.C. Development Suspended on: October 22, 2004, 08:14:50 PM
I had so much hope for this game.  I mean come on, develop language, learn primative science (fire, stonework, etc) and use it all to interact with a live environment of gorgeous dinos?  It was one of the top 3 games I was lookin forward to.  Think this is bad sign for LH?  First he apologizes for Fable then BC suspended... think Moly has George Jung syndrome (from Blow... "In the end my vision far surpassed my talent...")?  I think they're comin up with big ideas and not bein able to deliver - I just wish they'd figure out the cans and cants in a brainstormin session BEFORE I start lookin' forward for a game that looks damn near implemented.  Oh well - and The Movies is NOT gonna pan out - itll be like theme hospital or some such thing and probably pretty neato - but as far as creatin' entire movies from scratch? No - more like scripts and changin' furniture around but this WILL NOT be as open ended as people think - it cant if only from mere tedium.  My 2cents.  Majorly bummed bout BC though - please come back cause all that bad stuff said aside I know Ill still get you smile With lower expectations yes but even if ya turn out a stupid action adventure (Buffy w/ Dinos?) Ill get you if only for what you once were smile

Yup yup no Pokey tonight if Francona didnt start him last time Lowe was up and Bellhorn was kickin it there's no way hes gonna do it tonight - I think last night Bellhorn clinched the next 4 years of starts regardless of performance in coach's eyes smile  And dont worry guys this is gonna be good - everyone else must know but usually we're all sittin here 'bout now waitin for the Sox to screw up - we do it every year and get ready to be crushed.  THIS year though - I dunno - I have the sense that Im not waitin for a game losing fuck up but something special.  Last night I was like a kid on Christmas eve - couldnt sleep cant wait to see the game - and thats NOT cause I think bad things are gonna happen smile  And Im with you Koz especially w/ Millar.  Until baseball starts countin 400 foot fouls home runs, and ESPECIALLY if Lowe starts ya gotta go w/ Mientciewicz - but we all know itll never happen.  Terry's been showin some decent intellegence though and gettin the guy / guys in there to play defense at the right time (though he's been pretty much do or die at 2nd - Pokey's come in like what, once?).  How 'bout battin order - think hes keepin Billy Mueller at 2?  Oh well Im excited - and I got to be on news talkin bout how the Sox gonna win so its gotta be an omen right???

Don't worry we okay.  Schilling'll do fine (random acts aside) - if he was physically unable to we woulda known it by now smile  And the Sox are right on Lieber - finally they're not makin this guy look like a Cy Young contender - knew it was only a matter of time hes gone down hard once already.  I like what Im watchin for now smile
2838  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Terry Francona's Cry For Help on: October 19, 2004, 11:04:38 PM
On some of the talk radio stuff I've been hearin stuff that they say is from org (but Im guessin all could just be rumor ya?) that they weren't even lookin to resign OC.  Names thrown out were like Larkin, Vizquel.  Sucks if this kinda stuff is true though I like many of you it seems like OC.  Plus I mean werent they raggin on Sox right round trade time that Cabrera was "old"?  Not to use ugly terms - but guys like Larkin and Vizquel could literally be his daddy smile  They're gettin old and Vizquel is HOF stuff but hes toward the end there I dont see him gettin better or even stayin steady before he starts to creep up on mediocre.
Hmm and what else.  Im hopeful about tonight w/ Schilling.  Game 1 were some of my scariest moments as a Sox fan cause Im sittin there watchin him physically unable to pitch and thinkin shit that thing in Anaheim really could be something bad...  Im thinkin not this year but even next and Im all but cryin - didnt they make it seem like this could be REAL bad?  Francona for the past few days though hasnt been sayin things like "hes doin okay in the pen" or "hes makin progress" hes been callin him outstanding.  That and the fact that he would never in a million years be out there if this was something that they thought was gonna blow up on him - they have way too much money in this guy and way too many expectations to ruin it.  SOOO longwinded bottom line is (and yes we all know ANYTHING can happen) but Im lookin for him to be pretty damn good out there tonight.  Maybe not 100% but he and management def have the sentiment that he is good and up to par to make a do or die start.  So that gives me real high hopes cause even a Schilling at 90% or less is still better than 99% of pitchers out there smile
Which brings me to Lieber.   Twice they make this guy look like hes up for the Cy Young.  Hes NOT that much of a mystery - Sox have shown that pretty well hehehe.  So heres hopin they keep their heads on em and take smart swings cause they do have the potential to hit this guy.  So thats my speech hope ya made it to the end go Sox!  Yanks swept you in the 3 game mini-series time for you guys to sweep them in the 4 gamer that counts smile  Only 2 more smile
