161  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3]Games Of Thrones-Are we looking forward to this? on: April 24, 2012, 06:44:49 PM
im torn on this one, but not for the reasons one would think

you may not know this from my posting in the HBO series thread... but ive never read the books.  a few years ago i was scared away from reading them with a lot of chatter about martin never being able to *ahem* finish them "in time" and it was a story i KNOW i wouldnt want to start without being able to finish.  and i absolutely devour books.  so the only reason i wouldnt want to play this game would be due to potential spoilers (i think it runs concurrently with the books, yes?)

but yes, i have been watching the series, only because the once a week episodes "pace" me, along with the prospect of years of content.  now if i were to start reading the books...

well the good news is the box for space rangers reboot updated and it looks like its drm free - but the one for star wolves 3 is still blank.  and the guy in chat with me last night, who was checking it out for me, disconnected frown  but from the user reviews it looks like im good to go so i think ill take the plunge on these two

Yeah, even if they can show that the Saints never used or gained a benefit from this system (what are the chances of that), Loomis has to be fired after this one might end up in federal prison over this one.

its never good when the district court knows more about whats going on than the nfl
164  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Summer Beers on: April 22, 2012, 11:09:42 PM
so sky what was the haul?  no teasing lets hear what ya went with - did you end up going on a pliny road trip (you wouldnt be the first!)

i will try to get my hands on that spring hops - i too like their porter but have yet to give this one a go.  also i had never heard of slumbrew and might have to track it down
165  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: [Amazon] 1C $5 Sale on: April 22, 2012, 09:06:49 PM
next question - do these have starforce or was that a dvd only thing?  the amazon description boxes (which are usually pretty good) are pretty much empty here
166  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: [Amazon] 1C $5 Sale on: April 22, 2012, 04:49:58 PM
okay space rangers 2 is called an "rts" by amazon - is it really an rts (like starcraft and such with basebuilding) - i was always under the impression it was more open world rpg sort of game where your "characters" happened to be ships

and on star wolves 3 - good game / worth getting?  i was always mildly interested in these games but want to make sure that what im looking for is what im getting.  and if 3 isnt good - was there one in the series that i should be looking at instead?  how do these hold up?

anyone want to describe some of the gameplay and give a few impressions?

I can't find my notes. I must have lost them while drunk.

I do remember that Clown Shoes = best of show. Also, cocktail wieners.

lol dont worry ironrod happens to the best of us.  if its any consolation, im sure the last 15 "reviews" were random ramblings like "i wonder whats living in that guys beard" before falling off into incomprehensible scrawl.  ive been a fan of the clown shoes that ive had - supa hero was good and ive been meaning to snag their imperial stout (blaecorn unidragon (sp?)).

and harpua yes i have had it, on tap to boot!  very good and amazing how some of these high abv ipas are so easy drinking.  when i drink the high abv beers (quads, barleywines etc) i KNOW im drinking a big beer sipper - but those 9% double ipas go down too fast if im not careful!
one bad thing - i dont think founders is out west and im not sure if hed be able to get his hands on 3 floyds either frown  oh and i second the saison search - those could also be very nice drinking tart beers that would be perfect for the desert!
168  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Summer Beers on: April 22, 2012, 04:13:50 AM
ironrod dont let my faux knowledge of west coast beers mislead you!  i too am from this new england and am always thrilled to hear impressions from such massive tastings!  translation - im very interested in you posting a few of those highlights!
169  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Summer Beers on: April 22, 2012, 01:12:22 AM
oh and sky if you KNOW your friend vastly prefers malt forward low bitterness beers disregard most of my advice (but NOT "my best advice"!)
170  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Summer Beers on: April 22, 2012, 01:05:14 AM
i know im a fan of pale ales / double ipas and hop forward reds in the summer.  stuff thats easy to come by and that i like would be lagunitas hop stoopid and imperial red.  and green flash has a nice ipa as well as a pale ale with a "twist" that a beer geek would like - their rayon vert

i dont drink too many scotch ales or wee heavys so i cant help you there

also as far as oregon - deschutes is good and has a solid lineup.  and if you REALLY want to surprise a beer lover, get your hands on pliny.  i know you said you "have access to oregon beers" - pliny is a california beer that i THINK sees oregon distribution, but it blows in and out of stock quickly.  not sure if youd be able to get it in reno but a quick trip over a border (either oregon(?) or cali) after making a few phone calls would really be a treat for a beer lover.  actually most of the stuff from russian river seems to be the west coast hotness right now slywink

my best advice - if you know a good "bottle shop" were the person behind the counter will talk your ear off about beer, go there and ask either 1) for scotch ales that a beer lover would like that would be a treat or 2) what seems to be the current crop of beers around drawing a lot of attention.

havent checked it out beyond reading the blurb from cks original post (LOL "original ck" anyone?) but that spot made it sound like king of dragon pass

which reminds me - anyone know if king of dragon pass will run on win 7?  and want to sell me a copy?

slywink

176  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: [D&D 4th Ed.] Official GT Campaign 3: Crit the Cleric! on: April 11, 2012, 10:58:48 PM
Arkon I swapped out Precise Incision for the shiny new version Wounding Strike (I wish I could swap the names, as PI sounds MUCH more menacing than wounding strike).

I'm also availing myself of the usual once a level retrain to get rid of fortuitous dodge for sidestep stance - I hope sticking with a daily doesn't mean this one will just sit there too, especially when I have one where I can shift my speed once per encounter...
177  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: [D&D 4th Ed.] Official GT Campaign 3: Crit the Cleric! on: April 11, 2012, 10:55:01 PM

tc ive heard that guild wars 2 DID solve this problem.  because its a free to play mmo, they will require your credit card to shop at the in-game "store" which is actually a mail order tiffany and co slywink

One would think they will have a GOTY version that will include the DLC on disc (and a GH version after that).

EA claims that there are no plans to charge for the DLC after the listed date.

so its up until 2014, but ea has no plans to charge after that date - they made a terrible mistake and leaked the shutdown date for ME3 servers! slywink

182  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Hobbit games from Monolith? on: April 02, 2012, 07:45:14 PM
i have a soft spot for monolith so ill give them the benefit of the doubt for now!  the games they make (made, i guess, as im going back a few years here) were always so vibrant, beautiful and fluid
183  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Game of Thrones - Season 2 is Coming on: April 02, 2012, 07:43:40 PM
its amazing that even though i found the episode "boring" it was still fantastic.  the repartee that several of the actor / character pairings have is wonderful.  of special note - tyrion / cersei (small council scene), rob / jamie and the wolf was wonderful (just the way he slinked around the edge of the cage and jamies plain fear was great) and rob / cat.  oh and how can i forget daeny / jorah which was a standout relationship in the first season and looks to only be getting better!

ah really love the bran / maester luen scene as well (did i get the spelling on that one right?)

the evening was spent nursing several special brews and watching / rewatching the show in what was a combo viewing tasting party.

AND LET ME KNOW IF I SHOULD GO BACK AND EDIT FOR SPOILERS!

ive been excited about this one for a long time now, even waaaaaay back when i thought it was "just" a quasi-open world action game where i could fight gigantic mythical monsters.  capcoms been laying down the full court rpg press and thats only made me want it even more.  i hope its good!  and i hope we see the demo sooner rather than later
185  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3]Borderlands 2 on: March 30, 2012, 05:02:25 PM
wonderpug do you mind making note of the equipment?  not so much the guns - im curious if theyre including more slots for things like armor, shields, "rings" - you know, not once use stuff - paper doll - thats the term!
186  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Blast Chiller: Never drink warm beer again! on: March 30, 2012, 04:04:23 PM
as a beer snob, i spend the first 15 minutes deriding the choice of six pack selected by said guest, NO MATTER WHAT IT IS.  i list no fewer than 4 choices that would have been better, at least one of which must be impossible to locate in the same hemisphere as our current location.

no im kidding about both the above and my snobbery

this is funny, because before i even finished your description i was already thinking about this!  are we in scaleport, or at the mountains of madness?

189  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Blast Chiller: Never drink warm beer again! on: March 30, 2012, 03:48:20 PM
as a certified beer snob (TM) i find it shocking and appalling that you dont already have more cooling chambers for your (always ultra fresh!) pale ales than for food

also, an extensive cellaring space for that "just perfect" 55 - 60 degree in hand imperial stout right when you need it

i dunno the whole "bounty" aspect looked pretty neat in that "oddworld" knockoff sort of way... sans beebullets that is

(and by knockoff, i mean both of the "original" game, and in the "hey, lets turn this into a shooter" way - did that phrase make sense???)

198  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mass Effect 3 on: March 24, 2012, 10:36:38 PM
wonderpug its more just the point of the thing.  now, im not going to play the game so in a way im talking out my @$$ on this one, but for me the turn off (amoung many others) was that today its downloading and playing an app or feeding hits to social media flavor of the day, next week its buying an app, after that maybe its buying a taco or a soda or maybe the new book / comic book / movie tie in... all to play the damn game

and the trend isnt for "more" game to be offered in exchange for taking part in these side activities, the trend is to strip more and more of the game OUT and force consumers (yes thats what we are) to consume more and more and more to get less.  it just feels cheap

*rant off*
