121  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Forum Consolidation? on: July 07, 2012, 02:51:12 AM
i hate it i cant stand it im never coming ba... actually not a bad merge.  i still miiiiiiiight like to see PC spun off from console, but time will tell if it gets annoying - and thread starters are already making threads with [PC] so i guess it shouldnt be too bad!

and thanks for letting us keep analog (slywink) gaming - way to coin a term (or have i just missed that one?
122  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: [D&D 4th Ed.] Official GT Campaign 3: No Business Like Gnome Business on: July 07, 2012, 02:47:55 AM
I'm lucky and managed to escape largely unscathed!

So I'll be at 94 HPs and 3 Surges after burning the two to press on w/ my encounters back
123  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: [D&D 4th Ed.] Official GT Campaign 3: No Business Like Gnome Business on: June 26, 2012, 11:40:31 PM
Due to the competent healing of both Bilon and Kriv, Winnish has been able to renew his focus on combat prowess.  And while he will continue to regale both willing and unwilling alike with tales of said prowess, it will no longer be interwoven with the magical bardic energies that had manifested themselves.  He will return to being the wonderfully whimsical trained killer all grew to know and love - however his reputation will suffer as a result!  He now must resume relying on lies and blade rather than honeyed words intuned with magic

Practical Translation:  I'm trading out my Bardic Subclass.  We have more than enough healing and the downside is I'll lose training in Diplomacy, but I'd rather negotiate with the point of my foil any day!

So my Paragon Path Power will unlock (Unfair Advantage) and by rededicating myself I get TWO new feats (yay!):  Two Weapon Fighting and Two Weapon Opening (no more magical bs-ing means more time to practice stabby stabby).
My Utility will be Raise the Stakes (I always try to - and hey; live by the sword, die by the sword).  Oh and 5 more HPs!  That's all folks, see you tomorrow. *winks*

Also, I have well over 1 million gold and a ton of Rift Crystals and nothing to spend them on.  That's disappointing.

ya the game both REALLY succeeded and failed on this, at the same time.  i have a lot of rift crystals, which i SHOULD be using to buy increasingly better pawns.  but at the same time, ive become "wedded to" and invested in questing with the pawns i have picked up, even as they become increasingly less effective.

so kudos on investing me in my pawns, downside for making a scarce resource seem devalued.  when reading this post im thinking maybe i should be dismissing then reselecting the same pawn, something i havent done however because i never really thought to before now and theres no promise that the pawn ive been using has a "better" current iteration

So this is all totally out of character and (sorry kadnod!) not privy to NPC eavesdropping - but now what?  It looks like we have the option, via some creative economics from The Monk and timely bottom line slashing by Winnish and Bilon, to pay a vastly reduced amount at a soon-to-be later date (noon today!) or we can do like the majority and avoid our creditors or resort to violence.  Or hell, we can ignore the bastard at noon, checkpoint cleared and forego (wow I'm not sure how to spell that!) any benefits of improving relations with the merchants at the expense of some, well, spared expenses.  (Damnit now I'm typing like my PC!).  At least those are the options as I see them at the moment.

Also, huzzah for a postive result from an 18 Bluff roll!  Yay gullible loansharks or previous persuasive arguements!

"Ah wonderful, negotiation!  What can we do about this bill, what indeed?  *brashly snatches it, holding it so it can be seen by the Monk.*  Ah, well, first easy bit of business is the matter of these ships.  Highly expensive, make no mistake no one will make recompense for them, a terrible, terrible loss indeed!  So we can cross those off.  *slashes out each ship name with the point of his dagger*  And as you oh so accurately mentioned there are clearly three parties involved here, ourselves *bows deeply, smiles* the Prepotency and of course your own coffers.  So the division of the remainder is parted three ways.  Oh, but wait, wait again!  *points at the line indicating loss of manpower*  How fortunate, you have lost several troops, we have brought several more!  So there's another point of removal!  Where does that leave us... hmm, let's see..."

i dont know what i may or may not have missed, but i havent had nearly as many problems "getting the game to work" as it were.  or even if you dont restart - wander more, guide less - and kick it for me while youre at it because i know i HATE being locked out of quests / story too!

152  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Can anyone tell me what's deal with FB stock on: May 31, 2012, 01:26:24 AM
which is why its such a shame knighshade - the stock market SHOULD be about providing market based funds to companies lacking liquid assets but with promising future growth due to novel ideas.

at best its become a house of speculative cards and a casino of perception.  at worst its a haven of corruption designed to funnel money to those who are looking at everyones hand.
153  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Can anyone tell me what's deal with FB stock on: May 30, 2012, 11:31:08 PM
the best part is im sure whoever was responsible for talking up the stock and had the presold shares, made a killing shorting it too

This should make the next great IPO of this type much more "realistic" in it's expectations.

thats the same thing i said about junk bonds... then latin american debt funding... then the east asian currency markets... then the tech "boom"... then real estate... then derivatives hedging...

we live in a boom / bust, musical chairs financial world and until we correct that were going to continue to see instances of corru... "misvaluation" that create large sums of money for a small perdetermined few while dumping the inevitable losses off on the majority.  at least this time it was small, which i suppose is a bit like prima nocte being "just" a bj
155  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: CD Projekt Red announce Cyberpunk on: May 30, 2012, 06:48:36 PM
at least if its clunky in pnp, in a video game it hopefully wont seem as much so as a lot of stuff is handled in the background by automated systems.

kronovan im not familiar with the source - care to give some highlights of the system if you have minute?  i know youre really up to date on a lot of the mechanics of many pnp rpgs so im curious how it "stacks up" and some of the features or lack thereof; compared to other rulesets
156  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3] Dragon's Dogma on: May 30, 2012, 06:46:20 PM
ralph if you go to an inn (any inn - or at least any of the ones ive been to so far) if you go around near the front desk to the "lobby" youll see something called the knowledge chair - if you use it, you can change the way your pawn acts, including speech frequency.  you can use it often to change other stuff if youre so inclined

also MO thanks for the shots of my pawn!  i hope she stays useful for you (and anyone else who wants to take her - shes wielding a single massive and deadly blade now - should be fun!)

ralph it seems to be totally open!  so your ranger can go to whatever strange profession you want.  the only exception is with pawns, who seem to have a more limited selection.  but your actual pc can pick from any of them.
159  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Kansas governor signs Shariah bill on: May 27, 2012, 03:54:35 AM
this will be an interesting one, especially because the supreme court literally JUST sided with a religious institution when it came to exemptions to state law, and ability to interpret and enforce "religious" law vs state/ civil law.  i mean the SC literally just had a decision where it upheld the right of religious institutions to enforce law as per their 1st amendment beliefs, regardless of existing state laws.

the other really interesting one will be the effect of the recent health care bill re: "birth control" (because honestly a lot of what religious institutions regard as "birth control" falls under what others would call "womens health").  strange times
160  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PS3] Dragon's Dogma on: May 26, 2012, 11:53:59 PM
ah good to hear kato!  i havent gotten to that point in the game yet, but i do admit that the instruction booklet being a bit cryptic made me finally decide on the mage despite thinking an initial pick of strider or fighter would let me experience the "best" parts of combat.

on more than one page in the booklet something is written to the effect of "you only start with one vocation" or "you might be able to find additional vocations later" - when i read that i suspected that i would get a shot to play around later in the game - so its good to have it confirmed, and confirmed with gusto!
