ah good to hear kato! i havent gotten to that point in the game yet, but i do admit that the instruction booklet being a bit cryptic made me finally decide on the mage despite thinking an initial pick of strider or fighter would let me experience the "best" parts of combat.
on more than one page in the booklet something is written to the effect of "you only start with one vocation" or "you might be able to find additional vocations later" - when i read that i suspected that i would get a shot to play around later in the game - so its good to have it confirmed, and confirmed with gusto!

Oh wow, now Doopri is playing this too! I just looked and he's already Level 12
ya AA - i mentioned it earlier in the thread, but i was all over this game a year or two ago when i thought it was just an action beat-em-up where the beatees were giant classical monsters like chimeras, hydras and griffons. when i found out it was a full fledged rpg it turned into a game id been waiting on for a while. and damn you kato now im going to actually have to heal with my mage! yes, i DID go with mage. i occassionally regret it as i feel like im going to be missing out on some of the more entertaining parts of combat by just hanging back and lobbing spells that autolock. for this type of game im thinking the more hands on fighter or interactive rang... er "strider" would have been a better choice. not that it isnt fun as a mage - i just hope i dont regret not being able to climb up and slaughter all those cool critters in the world.

i played the demo and enjoyed it (and i like obsidians work too) but i think it was a victim of bad timing. if my memory is correct, even though i liked the demo there were probably 4 or 5 other games i had been REALLY looking forward to coming out at around the same time (which never happens for me). by the time i went through those, i admit to basically having forgotten this one maybe your post will inspire me to go pick it up

i was soooooo disturbed the first time i saw a chrysalid do that to one of my squaddies in the original xcom - no warning, no time to respond - just this creature running out of a darkened aisle in a blown out store, while my guy screamed and melted into an alien

how was it a bad loan? somewhere a group of private investors is reaping enormous gains from a risk they never had to take because they paid a bunch of politicians to force other people to cough up cash for the bills. im sure, for the price of a few luxury seats at fenway and dinners out around town, they are now guaranteed somewhere north of $110 million dollars after interest for a business venture that completely and utterly failed.
that sounds like the best kind of loan, from the perspective of the ones issuing it. now for the ones forced into guaranteeing it on the other hand...

lol aa i love your posts - to this day i still chuckle whenever i think "i am alex mercer" (which, oddly enough, happens less often than youd think)
and ill be nabbing this, but probably later in the week. i had a particularly lucky occurrence last week when someone turned in a used copy of game of thrones. knowing i wanted dragons dogma, and was tempted by got but scared to truly "take the plunge" this was a perfect opportunity; the only downside being id be milking the full week of "game" gaming if i liked it - which i do!
so make sure you all level up some pawns for me in the meantime!

AA I like the idea of an escort for the Prepotency troops a lot. And I think our group might be one of the best for "least likely to cause a provocation." While Winnish has no love lost for the Prepotency, fighting along side a bandit prince has certainly made our group familiar with shifting alliances and the need for temporary cease fires and strange bedfellows. Heck, we almost went into negotiations with the Prepotency at one point - and while we're nowhere near doing that, I do think it means we have the best temperament for the escort. Even if maybe we are #1 on the Prepotency's most wanted.
*edit* And rereading your post, I just noticed that if we escort it'll kill two birds with one stone - we can get a good look at the surrounding fields and maybe even scout any force that will be coming to rejoin the fight or just cover the troops' retreat. Hopefully our new "friend" in the Temple is doing a good job of healing the wounded and keeping the city out of squalor.

okay hetz i saw that youre picking this up this week so im calling you (or anyone else who grabs it) out!
can i get some impressions from anyone who manages to pull themselves away from diablo???
especially on how "spoilerific" the game is? as background, ive only watched the series on tv, and wont read the books until the last is written, and probably not until the series is at least "current" with the book out at the time - so itll be a while

*surveys the current situation, and is clearly quite pleased* "Our secured cease fire seems not to be for naught, praise Ryla. And for the moment we have no native uprising in the streets! Is it too much to hope for no mounting counterattack outside our walls?" *removing the battle standard he slung across his back like a bow, he glances at both it and his dragonborn companion* "Looks a bit like you m'boy! You want it, or might I continue to carry the dragon's glory along my back? Though *a bit sheepish* with flag furled for now. *winks* Wouldn't want to worry the world extolling the virtues of a return to our reptilian rulers!"

It looks like an awesome set for a Bollywood movie. I can imagine lines of dancers in that street dressed in tacky, bright colored clothing kicking shit all over the place, timed "chaya, chaya, cha-ya, chaiiiiiiiiiii-ya, chaya, chaya, chaya, chay-YYYYyyyyAAAAA!!!!!" (yes ive watched too many bollywood movies - AND LOVED THEM ALL DAMNIT!!! - bring back the musical!!!)

jcc i started the game for the first time when it went free to play and had a ton of fun with it. its one i still want to keep going back to but ive been playing a marathon of older pc games i "missed" (new again to pc gaming after a long console hiatus). its a lot of fun, and if you do want to play with someone give me a pm as that would be a good excuse for me to jump on some night!
also, yes it is very solo friendly - in fact at the "higher" difficulty levels its too solo friendly (or maybe it just needs a dedicated team) as i found if i did a mission with a partner on the second level (where ships sustain injuries) the game would toss in an extra ship that would just destroy us. other than that when i did story missions i did them solo and had a lot of fun - theres a neat story that plays into the game.
and if you do jump into the group stuff (certain "fleet actions" and responding to borg incursions by clicking on the "red alert" that will flash on the bottom of the screen) it seemed pretty casual. sure for the first few youll get destroyed, and you may never win them at early levels, but youll get a chance to see what its like to have other pcs and get some decent exp. plus its a lot of fun when you DO start to make headway, and instead of being the little guy who marvels at the nasty ships that would come in and clean up spheres like nothing, youre that guy!

pete i LOVED the interview last year at the start of the season, when all the phillies pitchers were up on the stage and it was like OMG hamels, halladay, lee, oswalt!!! and that guy.
at one point, i shit you not, a reporter is commenting on the "fact" that all the aces on the staff were hall of famers and not one had a world series ring, and how did they feel about a chance to get one. totally ignoring "that guy" - blanton, sort of peeved is like "uh, i have one" - but it sort of sounded like he was saying "gees im sitting right here are you all really going to pretend like i dont even exist this WHOLE show"
it was pretty funny

so thanks for the heads up ironrod that was a good one. i think one of my locals still has a few floating around so i might pick up another 6 before the weekend. nice backbone on it too - and i swear the first sip (okay gulp) and first sip only, with frothy head still fully intact, tasted allllmost like a candy but i couldnt place which one - something like a cowtail or those little round brown things with the white bit of sugar in the middle. after that it still had that wonderful toffee sort of malt sweetness that lingers with reds like this. and just the right amount of a hop punch.
it actually made me feel silly for hunting down nugget nectar when it first came out this year, as i prefer this one and it would have been easier to find!

im with purge and crux on this but ill also add avoid "talking" about anything. woman dont want to talk about the state of where a relationship could go before the first date! so i say dont label it, dont ask your status or what she thinks of you, just go out and enjoy it! go out again, see where things go. have fun and after spending some time together then youll both know where youre going. i leave the work related issues up to you.

i too can be fearful of fruit beers at times but ever since my eyes lit up when spotting a copy of the new complete joy of homebrewing in the librarys 50 cent pile when returning books one day, i have wanted to try something called "cherry fever stout"
this year if i see choke cherries at the farmers markets in the next few months, im going to do it

he wont get fired the nfl will black list him. how long will they tolerate a guy who shows no regard for the rules and norms of the nfl (if this is shown to be true)
plus i think we can all agreed that filming sideline signals and pregame practices is leagues away from electronically eavesdropping and monitoring every single bit of communication that occurs through an opposing teams players, coaches and coordinators headsets
if my neighbor snaps a picture of my car every day as i pull in to my drive hes going to get a talking to - if he installs a microphone in my dash were going to have a problem

prototype was the first game i ever solved, then immediately started up again (either on hard or new game + - whichever let the player continue to level skills - or maybe both im not sure). i dont know what it was about it but i really enjoyed the game.
