oh also, fps ya?  the first one was, but all ive seen listed for this one is "coop shooter" - didnt move to 3rd person did it?
2  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Falling Skies Season 3 on: August 09, 2013, 04:04:09 PM
hey you think its bs until you realize on dday 3 guys and some 'chutes where able to distract the nazis enough from that MASSIVE FLOTILLA moving toward the beach!

and in the first iraq war some seals in a rubber dingie with fireworks pulled the attention of the army long enough to move entire columns of tanks in behind them!  theres a reason the feint has been a part of military tactics for thousands of years slywink
3  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/XBLA/PSN] Payday 2 on: August 09, 2013, 03:56:27 PM
engine i was considering picking it up (i thought it was retail, but is it going to be on live arcade as well?)  if i do grab it ill shoot you a pm to see if youre interested in xbox coop
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [xbox 360]Games with Gold on: August 09, 2013, 01:37:23 AM
You just wait, kronovan, the game just keeps getting better and better as your powers increase and you become even more of a super cop.

ah okay this might be the incentive i need to go back to this one.  i tried i last night and promptly shut it off after about 15 minutes as i just didnt find it enjoyable (this never happens to me so early on!  of course im usually not just "snagging" a random game either)

but i remember having a bit more fun with the demo way back when and hate quitting on a game so soon so you might have inspired me to give it another look
5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] The Bureau: XCOM Declassified on: August 07, 2013, 04:47:47 AM
I was more interested in the alien black goo, the blocky alien infiltrators, the weird devices you'd use to eventually defeat them, with an emphasis on investigation and more open areas that they were originally going for.

to be honest while i HATED the initial ugly "blocky" look of the game, i DID reread this thread recently and have to admit some of the open area investigation aspects mentioned in 2010 ( I don't know the emote for the bug eyed smiley but I'm sure you know the one) sounded very interesting.  the stuff about taking pictures and collecting evidence, while juggling increasing  and impossible danger vs more investigation sounded promising.

and i said it before so ill say it again - once a "real" xcom came out these guys had MUCH more leeway with their reimaging than they did initially.  im very curious to see what they eventually produced!
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] The Bureau: XCOM Declassified on: August 07, 2013, 12:10:13 AM
sounds funny actually.

i hope this game is what i think it is, as ive been looking forward to it, especially now that i have a proper xcom as well.  i actually thought this game would never see the light of day more than once - cant believe its only 2 weeks away!  any word on a demo?
7  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Ghost Recon Online (F2P, 3rd person shooter) on: August 06, 2013, 11:50:46 PM
sounds fun but i hate to bring my noobness and lack of skill to the party - happy hunting out there!  also, why isnt this game hyped more - aside from this thread ive seen nothing about it - is it still in open beta before launch or what?
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/XB1/PS3/PS4/Wii U/PC]Assassin's Creed IV:Black Flag on: August 06, 2013, 11:49:15 PM
wow i must be one of the few people who actually liked ac3!  i was late to the party on it after being a bit turned off by ac:rev and not exactly thrilled with the change in locale (what the heck can you climb in 18th century woodlands??? slywink ) but ended up really enjoying almost all aspects of the game

the only thing thats a BIT odd to me about this next one is stepping back in time (heh, irony) instead of pushing forward but otherwise i like every video i see
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] The Bureau: XCOM Declassified on: August 06, 2013, 11:35:36 PM
whats that a link to?
10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Doom 4 on: August 03, 2013, 06:24:01 PM
to me, id never made good games, they always made an excellent engine that others later used as a backbone for the real killer stuff.  unfortunately for them, i cant remember the last time theyve created a new game changing engine - devs have moved on to the toolsets created by others
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Next Gen]Tomb Raider 2 on: August 03, 2013, 04:20:25 PM
I don't think they went out of their way to hurt Laura.  I think they were trying to visualize it more than past games in FPS and third person shooters.

i think (and i hate to speak for tilt here so tell me to F-off if im wrong) part of the point is that tilt isnt surprised that a studio "trying to visualize it more than past games in FPS and third person shooters" used a young female for this new experiment.  a bit disgusted, but not surprised
(and no the exploding gib storm of your quake avatar didnt count!)
12  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Next Gen]Tomb Raider 2 on: August 03, 2013, 04:15:35 PM
i tend to agree with what tilt is saying here

and as a counterpoint to "i just like a new take on a lead character" - the genre that IS most often associated with vulnerable, young emotional male leads is the jrpg.  these leads are almost universally derided amoung the male dominated gamerspace as "whiny, angsty and emo" (though probably not emo so much any more as its fallen out of use).  i bet there are examples in these very forums
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: August 01, 2013, 05:02:23 AM
and the headset is just a minor thing - i just hate that microsoft "showed their hand" when it comes to what they want to create in the console space, because prior to the xbox 1 i had signed on to their consoles bigtime!

if microsoft had their druthers, the xbox one would be an all seeing eye in my living room, always connected and demanding i never lend, sell, borrow or trade a single game.  not that gaming would even be its focus, as the "business team" at microsoft has already pointed out how much time its users spend on netflicks, facebook, "new websink / advert mechanism X" etc...  in two years time it would listen to my conversations so it could target advertisements to me, even as it charged me 60 dollars a year to play online and bombarded me with commercials the whole way through.  and meanwhile every incremental feature... a new device!  i should have realized back when the hd DVD drive was extra, the dvd remote was extra... the headset... extra

and the reason i feel burnt is because i jumped on board and helped push this idea of a console.  every dash update that slowed down and buried all the features i cared about, i still renewed.  i was sold on live and its stable connections, its friends list, its additional bonus content (bonus no longer, now every action a transaction - a games feature, an opportunity to remove it and charge for it).  hell i LOVED that microsoft finally made one of my favorite genres - the fps, a viable option on the tv!  so im a bit ticked now that i see what theyve tried to push for the "endgame" - yes ive been very ranty lately, im sorry frown
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: August 01, 2013, 04:43:27 AM
no, they didnt
but... *rummages through his launch 360 box* oh look, a new headset included!

and 3rd party headset / earphones were nowhere near as prevalent during the original xbox days as they are now.  hell most people probably didnt even have the broadband needed to get live, let alone a snazzy set of gaming earphones for console play
15  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3] XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Enemy Within expansion? on: July 31, 2013, 11:39:17 PM
wouldnt mind that at all!
16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: July 31, 2013, 11:37:41 PM
So their new controller isn't BC compatible with the old headsets, so they have new headsets and people gripe. Then they put out an adapter for the new controllers to work with the old headsets, and people gripe.

it just seems like a shameless money grab for something theyve included in the past (a headset) and just an overall additional slap in the face to the people who purchased rather expensive third party headsets

ive never used a gaming headset / microphone combo, but this being a gaming enthusiast site with an older crowd (many here have young children) im sure there are more than a few who own sets for which they paid $100+  even a move to bluetooth i could understand - but to move to yet another proprietary hookup that obsoletes (wow, i verbed it!) peoples hardware, only to turn around and sell them the solution that should have never been needed, seems a bit rude
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: July 31, 2013, 06:20:14 PM
oh that wasnt a gripe against ps3s remote, it was a reminder that we shouldnt be surprised microsoft is jamming a peripheral down peoples throats, for the privilege of using a *gasp* headset.  i dont even use one and it annoys me

my reference was to the original xbox - which had a dvd player, that wouldnt actually play dvds until the consumer bought the magical unlocky power remote

im just feeling like a curmudgeon today and it seems like microsoft is being deliberately obnoxious with the xbox one.  when are they going to demand our discipline?
18  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Disney Infinity on: July 31, 2013, 06:08:54 PM
thats awesome.  i never thought the logical extension of microtransactions would be consumer applauded macrotransactions, where you pay more than half the cost of the game itself, per level.  after you buy the game.

and shame on disney for recruiting children to tug on their parents sleeves to get us to buy into this crap.  oh wait, isnt that their entire business model?  parental guilt? moooooooommiieieiieieieieieie!!!! slywink

sorry, rant off - feel free to subject me to a counterrant about good parenting
19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: July 31, 2013, 05:53:00 PM
i think they should also make consumers buy a remote (not included) to play blurays too
20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [xbox 360]Games with Gold on: July 31, 2013, 05:49:19 PM
does anyone know if dead rising 2 kept in the need to restart a new game with your previous games (pumped up) character?  how about the random events which would occur concurrently, forcing you to decide which plot points you wanted to see?  i actually really enjoyed both aspects and was hoping they stuck around for the sequel
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns (official review on Page 3) on: July 29, 2013, 10:20:55 PM
rogue i havent played so take what im saying with a grain of salt but i thought there was sneaking in the game?  not in an explicit and hard coded stat sort of way, but basically the enemies have an environmental awareness.  if a hostile is looking away, you can move up on him in rounds and he might not actually engage until he hears you or turns around.  likewise the area quiet spell might even go so far as to supress gun fire, thereby preventing enemies the next room over from crashing your pistol party.

also in a lot of games like this, spellcasting is related to voice, and silence prevents spellcasting - mind you like i said i dont have the game and im talking out of my... er, yeah... but theres me tossing a few ideas out there
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: July 27, 2013, 05:24:19 AM
ugly rumor in the financial world is that smartglass, windows phone (not so much rumor as confirmed) and MSs presence in the "handheld" phone / tablet world has bombed already, to the tune of near billions
23  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mars: War Logs - PC RPG on: July 26, 2013, 10:07:41 PM
neat!  first i heard of this was watching a video on live about 2 days ago.  seemed interesting enough at least to warrant a trial spin
24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist 7-26-2013 on: July 26, 2013, 06:00:31 PM
ive actually been hooked on an older game i picked up on a whim, called king arthur

fantastic, fun game - its like a total war clone but with hero units that level up, cast spells, gain meaningful new pieces of gear and go on choose your own adventure type text quests.  its a lot of fun, a bit difficult but small tweaks to army composition and battlefield tactics go a long way in turning a previous rout into a victory.  fun game
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns (official review on Page 3) on: July 26, 2013, 05:38:11 AM
im guessing that will be based mostly on word of mouth, trial and error and trusting your friendly local forums - so when the time comes make sure to post the best mods here!

*edit* a great example for this was ftl, where the dev pages actually featured a forum section that listed mods, their contents, current state, descriptions AND review/bug/impressions posts
26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns (official review on Page 3) on: July 26, 2013, 05:29:10 AM
though with a fairly robust editor and rabid fan base, my hope is that even without the dlc / addon campaign there will be A LOT of created content - and again considering the fanbase at least a few additions will be very good
27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns (official review on Page 3) on: July 26, 2013, 05:27:06 AM
hey misguided - according to rons review and a few others ive seen the campaign is roughly
Spoiler for Hiden:
hours.  i spoilered it in case you were waiting to be surprised slywink
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Wasteland 2 on: July 25, 2013, 08:49:05 PM
ah good to hear - i didnt get the sense it had fallen off too much but its even better to know theyre right there!
29  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Wasteland 2 on: July 24, 2013, 11:05:13 PM
ooooh bummer the last i heard this was an october release - sounds like theyre a biiiiit behind but if its hitting beta at that time then hopefully not too far...
30  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/XB1/PS3/PS4/Wii U/PC]Assassin's Creed IV:Black Flag on: July 24, 2013, 11:02:33 PM
Long gamplay video.
I kind of wish this was a new pirate based franchise and not an AC game.

thatd be nice!  one of my favorite games of last generation was pirates of the caribbean (sea dogs 2)!  i would love to see a near replica of that one, sans bugs as it was a ton of fun
31  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: The Bureau : XCOM Declassified Preorder Deals on: July 24, 2013, 10:57:38 PM
good find eddie im actually very interested in this one (even more so after getting a "true" xcom as well!) even though there were several points during its dev process that i NEVER thought it would come out

i might nab the amazon version as i love stockpiling credits (all the odds and bodkins i can never find locally seem to be there)
32  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Star Wars: Edge of the Empire - Forum RPG - OOC thread on: July 21, 2013, 10:38:27 PM
Don't forget the downside...

Two years of contributing only the word (phrase?) "Utinni" to the forum game slywink
33  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / For Trade: Galactic Civilizations 2 on: July 21, 2013, 05:16:51 AM
i just realized i had some trade bait for a few older games i wanted!  i bought this while on a 4X craving, it included the booklet and techtree, plus an expansion (DLC? not sure - whatever dark avatar was).  anyway, it scratched that itch and now im willing to move on

anyone want to trade for one of the following?
titan quest (+ expansion maybe?  whatever the "gold box" edition includes?)
starfleet command (maybe sc2 if im short on offers)
devil summoner 2 (ps 2 game)
forge of freedom (civil war wargame)
fallen enchantress (was there a disc version, drm free offering for this?  if not, scratch one from the list!)
star trek legacy (xbox 360)
bladestorm (xbox 360)

i know, i have random requests slywink
34  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Pacific Rim on: July 21, 2013, 04:46:19 AM

35  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Burgers on: July 19, 2013, 12:12:48 AM
oooh just grilled some tonight!

i do patties with chili powder, celery seed, salt, pepper and cumin.  each burger is two little, thin patties with with a pocket in the middle, stuffed with bleu cheese and pressed together to seal shut.  i do mine lettuce, tomato, ketchup and bacon.  its really a lot easier and less busy than typing all of that made it sound.  i like the idea of fresh jalapenos and might try this
36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/360/Ps3] Dishonored on: July 19, 2013, 12:05:57 AM
LOVED this game - did it end up doing well?  critically, sales-wise, at the box office etc etc etc? smile
37  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC] State of Decay (formerly Class3) on: July 17, 2013, 11:36:06 PM
ditto on the bugs being fixed - i LOVED this game (very rarely do i play an arcade trial and instantly purchase, but i did that here) but i was starting my second playthrough just before the "might kill your xbox" patch came out and have been afraid to fire up the game since.  i HOPE the devs dont take too much flak for the buggy game because it really was a gem and i get the sense theyre trying as hard as they can to make things right and get the pc folks something to play

i was one who actually wasnt bothered (too much slywink) by the initial bugs (hello too many infestations!) and was glad they didnt bork my ability to complete the game once
38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] Shadowrun Returns on: July 17, 2013, 11:32:24 PM
so i have a huge favor to ask about this game and thought id toss out feelers here before hitting the trade forums...

i have an irrational hatred of steam (i know i know) and REALLY want to play this game.  i understand that one of the kickstarter levels included steam keys, a drm free download AND a drm free disc.  did anyone happen to get in on that and if so would you be willing to part with your disc copy?  id love to work out a trade or even better a puchase... if this sounds like something anyone here would be willing to do please shoot me a pm!

Wish me luck

due to the kindness of Kato, I spent three hours playing FTL.  damn fine game.  like the perfect short experience that gets deeper the further you go.

wow that is SUPER odd i was JUST taking a look at this one!  this is the starship sim ya?  kinda kiddie looking, but very deep and difficult?
