I blame Ubishit's Ushit protection. It's a piece of crap and frankly has no right to be existing as it gives nobody but Ubisoft anything useful.

Also, if you're in the UK you can't even play the game as their main ISP won't connect to Uplay's servers or something along those lines. Must suck to be them.

Game itself? Tons of fun. Really good game. Just Ushit needs to go the way of the dinosaurs.
162  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / SOE announces new Star Wars Galaxies? on: January 25, 2014, 03:10:55 PM
So, John Smedley, president of SOE (Sony Online Entertainment), held a Reddit yesterday where people could ask him (almost) anything and he'd respond best he could.

Well, this sorta came out of nowhere:

Cranks0: If you could relaunch a shutdown title which one would you pick and what would you do differently this time?

j_smedley: SWG. I would do everything differently.
j_smedley: SWG PLAYERS - OUR NEXT GAME (not announced yet) IS DEDICATED TO YOU. Once we launch it... you can come home now.

Make of it what you will. I highly doubt it will be anything related to Star Wars, because, well, Star Wars License. But who knows.

That's kind of surprising.  Since they already have the last gen versions you'd think it would be relatively trivial to port to one more system with that version.
There's nothing trivial about porting between the three last-gen platforms, least of all the Wii U with its touch screen and infamously hard developer tools. The entire rendering engine would have to be specifically written for that platform, and the control system would need to be overhauled as well, not to mention the additional testing required. At some point the costs outweigh the potential income, particularly when the platform has so few potential customers, most of who already own another console anyway.

Exactly. And who buys multiplatform titles on the WiiU anyhow?

That said, Kotaku has updated their article saying that it was just a glitch in Gamestop's computers. It'll be back up tomorrow.
164  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: 'Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition' for iOS Submitted to Apple for Approval on: January 22, 2014, 09:33:25 PM
Based on BG1 for the iPad, you get the complete game that launched on the PC for that price. But if you want additional classes and brand new content, you'll have to pay for it.

On the PC version, you just pay extra straight off as all the DLC is included with the game.

At least I think that's how I remember it.

Agreed. It looks absolutely awful and a text error on nearly VERY FIRST THING SAID?!

Also it's an edit of the SNES (US) version's script based on posts. And like usual, Squenix doesn't know how the hell to properly charge for things (but that doesn't seem to matter, as people will happily pay way too much for it anyway).

Ugh. Just...ugh.

IMHO, ever since Richard Garriott got back into the limelight with his new not-Ultima game the prices of everything have gone up.

So yeah, this is going to get expensive for you and quick. I'd just stick with the GoG releases unless you really, really want to get everything physical they came with back in the day.

Thankfully, you don't need to use StreetPass for Bravely Default.  You can add residents to your city over the internet or just keep the game running in sleep mode to wait out the building times.

Yup. The full game will have a daily 'phone home to the server' thing where you'll get more townspeople, as well as just adding friends directly over the internet (so like for people here who buy the game).

And keeping your console in StreetPass mode (lid down and game paused) is useful as every 8 hours that way you'll get a token for a free turn that you can spend whenever you want (max of 3). Or you can buy said turns via RMT (yes, seriously).

Buying for sure (barring very negative reviews):
Bravely Default (3DS, 2/7) - someone forgot to mention this in the top list. Tongue Also an RPG that plays like a Square game back in the SNES era (when they could do no wrong).
Watch Dogs (PS4 or PC, not sure yet) - wanted to jump into the next gen gaming world with this title alone.

Thief (PC) - still not sure how well this is going to turn out. It has been giving off a LOT of warning signs.
Infamous: Second Son (PS4) - still not sure about this. Never played the second title, either.

Neverwinter seems like it was designed with this eventuality in mind, so this should be pretty painless. I don't see how they plan to do this on last-gen consoles though. They aren't powerful enough to handle this kind of game. The Wii U maybe, but the others simply have too little RAM.

That said, while porting to the PS4/XB1 would be a LOT easier (as they're basically PCs), Champions Online was originally designed as a MMO for the PC/360 (and was supposed to use the Marvel license instead of the Hero Games/Champions one). There's even full support for the 360 controller built right in.

Also, the PR doesn't mention what titles they're planning on porting, so who knows what exactly we'll end up seeing.

No. Providers were paying more attention to their bottom line and/or their stocks for YEARS now and as thus they haven't installed jack and shit for that same timespan.

So any need for a bandwith cap is completely and entirely their fault.

Looks like a good place to call home. biggrin

Another tip: Your Matter Manipulator should only be used to get enough wood and cobblestone to make a pickaxe and a normal axe. Then you can tuck it away and never use it again. Also yes, the pickaxe uses the same left/right button feature that the Matter Manip did.

Also, holding shift changes your 'affect size' with your pickaxe/MM/placing blocks. From a 3x3 or 2x2 grid to a single square.

And the game is pretty well developed so far, IMHO. The main issue is the lack of a good tutorial and really explaining things.

Guys, since this game is offered through Steam how would I get it for my son?

In other words, I am playing it on my computer from my steam account.   My son got interested watching me, but I'm not sure how I would get it onto his computer so he could play at the same time.   Do I need a separate Steam account?   I'm ok with buying the game again, but I'm unsure how that works.
Eventually this

But you probably just need to buy it for him.
But how does that work?   Do I open a new steam account and DL steam to his computer?   Or do I log in with my steam account on his computer and use my account?    I'm confused by this.

IMHO, I'd make a second Steam account and then you can buy and then gift it through your primary account. As a bonus, you'll be able to play multiplayer with each other as its two different Steam accounts playing (although it doesn't use Steam connect).

And according to Steam I've only played for 22 or so hours since launch. Give or take a few hours. biggrin
But it's really not that much stuff - I've just stumbled into a few dungeons and such during my playing. And then threw it together into a mess of a ship.

The big differences of Starbound verses Terraria that I can think of off the top of my head: A near-infinite number of planets to go to, each with the possibility of different building materials, structures, NPCs (friendly or hostile), dungeons, and other things on them. And your ship (which you can store stuff on, like I did, or just use it to get around). And very easy mod support (there's a dozen or three small mods already available and the game is a week old).

Past that it's basically Terraria with a bit more of an alien feel. You still dive down to a planet's core, find the goodies within, and head back up again. Get better weapons and armor, fight bosses, continue onward until you get bored.

Overall, if you loved Terraria, you'll love Starbound. Just be warned that since this is very early beta, things can (and will) go wrong. Also there's a full on player wipe due in the next few days (just to show you how things can change).
197  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Starbound on: December 08, 2013, 05:13:10 AM
And with a fully expected player wipe, I figure I might as well post my ship where I kept everything I needed in one organized area. Never really built too much on any planet, mainly because I knew I'd leave it behind sooner instead of later.

Still no keybinding = I can't play.
Why can't you play it?
I'm left handed. The arrow keys are what are comfortable to me.

I thought I read somewhere that it natively supports the 360 controller. Failing that, plug it in and use Joy2Key or something for basic movement. Not exactly optimal though.

Also, a lot of the game's configs are in xml format. You may be able to manually change configs that way, Zarkon.

And the only reason why I was able to take down the first boss was that I stumbled upon a gun shop selling level 10 ranged weapons. Blew away what I was capable of doing with my Iron Bow.

FYI - another big update is coming soon, which more than likely will cause a player wipe. But the devs will be changing the leveling system from 100 down to just 10 (without removing content). Basically it'll have Easy/Medium/Hard mobs giving the game the same feeling that it has now, without you being just slaughtered whenever fighting someone above your level.

Oh, and random - the game has mod support and modders are already going nuts with it. New ship designs, new items, ways to modify game settings, etc etc.

I've been watching videos of this one and it seems pretty similar, minus the planet hopping aspect. Almost bought it before Starbound went early access.

Darkout works (I bought it like 6 months or so ago via Desura) but there's something just 'off' about its core engine. Too much 'lag' between people swinging your way and hitting and such. I should fire it up again and see how it is nowadays.

Totally continuing to love Starbound though. I made a base of sorta on a level 7 Forest planet, beat the first 'boss', and now I can explore even more of the galaxy if I want to. Or wait for some more beta updates.
