Yup. The werewolf transform is (yet another) buggy thing inside of ESO.

Also, reading their forms, they're banning people left right and center for the dupe bug (that apparently was reported BACK IN FUCKING BETA). Also they're banning anyone for any reason apparently, too. Seems like their auto-banner is hitting people randomly.

Of course I've 'duped' items - I've been hit with the bank bug 3 times so I have 4 copies of all the preorder items and Imperial Edition stuff. Is that enough to get me banned? Hell if I know.

I just know I won't be playing while I wait to see if they can fix this latest fuckup of theirs.

Has anyone tried this?  I expected a Terraria ripoff but the video shows it to be more Dwarf Fortress like.

It's...I'd say a much much lighter/easier Dwarf Fortress game. Basically you play as a 'guide' to the Dwarves (although you can completely manually control one at a time if you'd like) and get them to do things like build, craft, fight, gather, etc etc.

I got it on sale earlier in its Early Access stage and definitely enjoyed the time I put into it.

Very, very, very, very cool stuff in there. biggrin

I went to: http://zapcon.com/
this weekend, and while it was absolutely nowhere near as fancy as your trip, it also had its share of classic old arcade machines as well as pinball tables. Nothing quite like the ancient classics. Still a ton of fun to play to this day.

Looking forward to seeing what else you did. And what was there at the vendor tables.
4  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Elder Scrolls Online on: April 15, 2014, 12:28:38 AM
While I haven't seen actual 'lag' before, I have seen insane load times (on the order of minutes sometimes), bugs (quest triggers not properly firing), NPCs that won't shut the !@%!%^!! up (seriously, I want to shoot the damn Daggerfall banker IN THE HEAD), and bugs (I've had my account 'status' reset THREE times now, each time giving me all the preorder items again, resetting my bank maximum to 60, and wiping any money I had stored in said bank each time (thankfully none)).

Customer service so far has been next to worthless, too. Don't even get me started.

Do I still enjoy ESO? Yes. But it has its share of serious problems (like wiping inventory in my bank example above - that's something you absolutely must period make sure never ever happens).

There's an ESPN.GO app for the Roku that functions just like HBO.GO.  But that means you'll have to keep at least the minimum service from your cable company and add ESPN, most likely.
That's the problem. Just let me pay $5 a month to use ESPN go and I'm all set. $7.99 for Netflix, $7 for Amazon Prime, Whatever HULU Plus costs, plus $5 for Espn and I would see huge savings.

Because that would cause people to cut their absurdly overpriced cable TV subscriptions even faster in the end. Also that makes a lot of sense to do (offer money just for ESPN) and as such it'll never happen.

Oh and the vanilla UI and features on ESO is just serviceable, so getting addons for the game is essential for those of us that want more input/feedback from our MMO UI

I'm fine with the default UI (mostly), but my essential mod right now is some sort of spam filter or gold farmer blocker. Kinda shocking just how many of them there are out there.

And so far, I'm enjoying ESO quite a bit. Is it anything truly amazing? No. But it really feels like an Elder Scrolls game.

Except for the absolutely immersion breaking public instances where it allows 15 people into the same zone where the NPC outside told you that you're their only hope, or that is a place that nobody has ever explored, or anything of the sort. It's just absolutely utterly dumb.

Well, I will, as I'm all set for playing it on Tuesday. Here's to hoping it goes well.

I contacted ESO support.   They said just cancel my Gamestop order and order the digital copy through them.    The boxed copies only get a 3 day head start.   Digital gets 5.   It's to encourage digital sales for some reason.

Not quite from my understanding.

If you preorder any edition directly from Bethesda themselves, you'll get 5 day early access.

If you preorder the Imperial edition (the $80 one or whatever) from anybody, you'll get 5 day early access.

If you preorder the Normal edition from anybody other than Bethesda, you'll get 3 day early access.

Also, if you preorder any edition from anybody, you'll get the ability to play any Race on all 3 sides right from the start.

EDIT: Example: My digital preorder via Green Man Gaming (20% off!) is for the Normal edition, and I only get a 3 day head start.

Keyboard (and no doubt joystick) are the only control options.

Basically the game controls exactly like the arcade classic Asteroids, except there's gravity. And you can't teleport. And your ship regenerates health when not shooting.

Turn left, turn right, thrust, shoot. 3 arrow keys and X.

And as mentioned, the game is a ton of fun and very addicting. I love it. biggrin

it's to protect the retailers not the consumer.  It's to ensure one doesn't have an unfair advantage over another.  You do usually see them allow them to start selling a game if one of them breaks the date,  but I guess the eBay thing isn't big enough.

Screw that crap. Just sell it when it shows up. Still, I'd love to know how/why eBay got it before anyone else did.

Also, WTF is with the Friday release of this game? NOBODY releases on anything other than a Tuesday in the US (unless you're Nintendo). Who thought this was a good idea?

FYI I just read this review for the MSI GTX 760 Gaming ITX OC card (what a mouth full). And its actually pretty impressive for a $260 card: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/65554-msi-gtx-760-gaming-itx-oc-review.html

That's a pretty solid card based on the review. And right in my price range (of basically $300 or so - I'm really not interested in dropping $500 for a card unless it's powered by magic or something biggrin ) as well.

Maybe I'll end up with a GTX 760 of some sort. Seems to be right in that sweet spot.
25  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Need a new video card and looking for help on: February 28, 2014, 07:01:16 PM
What about the recently released (and cheap) GTX 750? Or is that just too low end for future proofing (but then there might be another nice cheap card coming out at that point)?

And as mentioned above, VRAM seems to be the most important bit - my card is still plenty good for gaming. It just can't hold all the textures that are used nowadays.

The GTX 760 sounds like a good balance between cost and power though. Any specific one in particular?
26  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Need a new video card and looking for help on: February 28, 2014, 05:36:42 AM
Well, apparently my Nvidia 570 has hit its end of life with Thief. The 'paltry' 1.25GB of VRAM just is absolutely not enough in this day and age, despite everything else working quite well otherwise (been able to run basically max settings on all games I've played, but Thief I'm at Normal Textures because of the VRAM usage).

So in short, I'm looking for something that has 2GB of VRAM (at least) that'll be a decent upgrade without breaking the bank (and Nvidia preferred).

I game at 1920x1080 and never run AA of any kind (I just don't see the benefit at that resolution) so that'll keep the VRAM usage down for the future.

Any ideas?

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-4.html
almost seems to be a pretty solid start, but I don't know if there's anything else out there. I'm kinda behind things nowadays.

I knocked them out just so I could get them to shut up. Tongue

And overall I'm really loving the game. Yes, it has its issues. It's far from flawless. But it's a very solid game from my time in it. And they're really trying to go after everybody with the -many- different difficulty levels and game options you can toggle on and off and everything else.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/XB1/PS4/360/PS3] Thief on: February 26, 2014, 09:04:53 PM
The thing to keep in mind on the PC version is how much video RAM you have. If you have under 1.5GB then you're stuck on normal texture and shadow levels. Past that and you can throw the options up to max more likely.

Unfortunately I'm one of the older 1.25GB cards. Seems that it has hit its end of life.

Not that it looks bad, don't get me wrong. But don't expect things past that point.
29  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/XB1/PS4/360/PS3] Thief on: February 24, 2014, 03:21:52 PM
So a decently enough solid game that I got for $36 at launch. I can't complain too much.

Now to finish preloading so I can play it tomorrow. biggrin

Also, the Rock Paper Shotgun 'review' is quite positive. I have few complaints just looking over what they said.

Why are games still 30 fps? Also, it seems that Xbox One is less powerful, no matter what the magic power of the cloud does? Oh well., its not like its even possible to get one for me yet, and no word on if ever.

Because the 'magic of the cloud' is a complete pile of bullcrap like I said it was going to be (maybe not here, but I've definitely said it). It is on orders of magnitude slower to do something over the internet than it is to update your screen 30 or 60 times a second.

At best...at BEST you'll see a roundtrip ping of 100ms...which means 10 times a second. And Microsoft seemed to imply that this 'magic cloud' could do things like display graphics? No server farm that they could set up could even begin to handle the requirements that 1/10th of the players could throw their way.

The 'magic cloud' is used for say, Forza. Holding your 'driving stats' and sending it to other players. Or for hosting multiplayer matches. That's it.

Also...I really, really like that walkthrough video posted earlier. I'm so totally on the fence on getting this. And I really should as there's plenty of sales out there.

So, question - do weakness bonuses stack?

In other words, if I attack a flying enemy with an Angel Bow (bonus damage to flying creatures) and also enchant the bow to the creature's elemental weakness, do I get a double weakness bonus?

Or does it just considered a 'weakness' and it doesn't matter how many of them you stack, you just get the one?

Digital is nice as you don't have to swap carts. Past that there's no advantage or difference either way (other than the digital copy is like 3.2GB in size or something).

Also you only get a few small items to start off your 'real' game if you do everything in the demo. IMHO, it's not worth it. Although you do get to see some jobs and classes and such ahead of time if you do.

Why the heck isn't NES Remix on the 3DS?

Why the heck can't we buy GBA games on the 3DS (through the eShop)?

Heck - why can't we buy DS games on the 3DS (through the eShop)?

Is Nintendo going to announce anything that would get me to find some reason to get a WiiU? And to increase sales overall (the PS4 is going to overtake the WiiU worldwide sales in a month or two tops at this rate)?

I can sorta get the GBA-3DS stuff not existing (as the GBA would have to be emulated). But the DS? That's fully right in the device.
