Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How would we react to Al-Qaeda detonating a nuke in an American city?
|

Was talking about this one with a friend the other night. We broke it down into four separate scenarios. In all three, assume that Al-Qaeda takes responsibility for the blast and shouts out to the world what they've done. For the sake of argument, let's set the nuke at 100 kilotons at ground level--enough to do a heaping helping of damage from the blast AND create fallout.
(1) A "mid-major" city, so to speak. Something like a, say, Nashville, Tennessee. (2) A major city that ISN'T NYC or Washington DC (3) NYC, Wall Street (4) Washington DC
I'll chime back in later with my own opinions, promise--I don't want my views to influence the discussion (who, moi?)
A couple of guys were arrested for posting something like this a few months back. Better be careful, big brother *IS* watching, and your constitutional rights are slim these days. Arrested? For posting something like this? You HAVE to be fucking joking. I mean, I know our executive branch doesn't pay it much heed these days, but we DO still have a Constitution, don't we? Do you have a link to these guys who were arrested for posting something like this?

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Is it worth reporting this to the police? (Internet sale gone bad)

It's not someone from this board. If it had been, I'd have outed them faster than you could say "F**k you thief". I'm just looking for advice. I don't want to waste my time making a stink if it isn't going to lead anywhere legally. The problem also is, and I've seen this before--I'm a newbie on the board in question. He's got 100+ trade feedback, all positive. If he's willing to screw me privately--which it SEEMS like he's doing--what's to stop him from claiming I'm full of crap? If that happened here, with the same circumstances, everyone would disbelieve the newbie. Same there. I'm just trying to figure out if the authorities will actually DO something over $470. If they will, I'm willing to go through the hassle of the legalities...but I'm not flying all the way across the country to sue his ass in small claims court. If people think the law (local fuzz/FBI, or both) is unlikely to do anything, I'm just going to cut my losses and call it a very hard lesson learned. The point for me is my money or the goods. He'll get his retribution from a higher power than myself .

To make a long story short, I bought an Xbox 360 and several games off someone on another forum. They cashed the check, I never received the merchandise. They claim they sent it out. I asked for some kind of proof (Delivery Confirmation, etc.)--they said they sent it out without that. When I asked for either the stuff or a refund, they told me "Well, I sent it out, I did my part, I'm not refunding you for something I mailed--it's not my fault it was lost."
Bottom line--is it worth my time reporting this slug to his local police, or to the FBI (he lives across the country from me). Will they actually DO anything about it? He's got solid gold feedback--something like +100 without a negative on the forum in question--which makes it even more shocking that he'd treat this situation like this.

Picked it up on impulse, looks cool, just not the kind of Trek game I was hoping for, I guess.
$28 shipped Priority Mail takes it. Yes, I know I don't have trading feedback here. If you've got good feedback, I've got no qualms about shipping first.

I want to get one of the new Nanos. When I link it to my iTunes (i already have a video iPod), can I: (1) Sync it manually? (2) Tell it to sync only fron a particular playlist? (3) Use it with the same iTunes library my iPod video uses? Thanks for helping the iPod newbie .

We also need to realize that they have no way to deliver a nuke yet. Their missile tests weeks ago just go to show how they lack the capacity to deliver. Also, a fission bomb, :icon_eek: , the U.S. uses mainly fusion bombs (I think) which, last time I checked were more pop then fizzle. Not too worried about it at this point.
True, Papa Smurf, but all that has to happen is for these assholes, God forbid, to sell one to some Islamic fruitcake who wants to go to Paradise and take out a US city in the bargain. Even a small nuke could kill a LOT of people--I remember reading a study a number of years back that said a 10-kt atomic bomb--half the size of the Hiroshima bomb--blown off in Downtown New York, at 12 noon on a business day, could kill 750,000 people.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What's a fair price to offer my friend for this iPod?
|
on: September 12, 2006, 06:58:22 PM

My friend has an iPod video. 60GB model, in perfect condition, without a scratch, just short of one month old.
He asked if I'd be interested in taking it off his hands, but I'm at a loss to come up with a fair offer.
The new 80GB models announced today are going to be selling for $349, and they're going to have more than double the video battery life of the current 60GB iPods. Given that, what would you say a fair offer would be for my friend's 60GB iPod video?

Hey, I'm sure it's appreciated by one and all that you guys tried.
It says a lot to me that Rich couldn't even be bothered to make sure the corpse wasn't abused, if you know what I mean.
