I wanted a nice html launcher page for Infocom games in the parchment z interpreter (Plain url links was boring  ). Originally wanted a picklist where the game description and image would change but I have done javascript in forever and couldn't stumble out anything workable. After wasting a lot of time trying to resurrect javascript braincells, I mostly just copied how one of the infocom gallerys looks inside a copy of the main parchment html file. Just tap the image file and the game starts up. Though its mostly for looks since saves are done w/ bookmarks from the browser (so far typing save in game and then hitting reload is giving me workable bookmark saves).

I just finished it at 110 hours according to Steam.

Awesome.

Time to start over.

Since I maybe get 1hr a night to play, if I choose gaming in that free slot, its going to take me forever smile Tired of upgrading rigs anyway smile

http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad-apps/290298-machinarium-webos.html

You can save swf games to the touchpad and play them from there. Not sure how it works with all games. Guess the control method determines if it works or not.

I've been looking for a zinterpreter (interactive fiction) for webos unsuccessfully but used the method above to get Parchment (https://github.com/curiousdannii/parchment) working on my touchpad. So now I can play infocom games on it. Works good so far, except save/restore only works during the current play window. So if the browser is shut the save is lost.

Once its usb installed to touchpad just type: file:///media/internal/ParchmentIF/index.html?story=file:///media/internal/ParchmentIF/stories/hitchhik.z5 (can save to launcher after typing it)

I might try some other flash z interpreters to see if they work better.

EDIT: Think webos has a tendency to cut the url when Parchment tries to save. If after saving I click on the URL to verify its got some ending (lots of random text), it seems I can save a bookmark that works as save. If the text is missing I hit refresh page and it seems to show up. So far it works. Have 3 seperate bookmarks at different parts of story.

Edit2: Edited one of the parchment html files so I have a web launcher to different infocom games smile

i did the preware patches and now happily running at 1.5ghz

ready somewhere (precentral?) that you can use playon to watch netflix through the touchpad browser. i redownloaded playon (had nabbed a basic license for cheap long ago before wii had netflix) and reset it up. seems to work OK so far.

also set up my box.net acct for the free 50gb of storage instead of just regular free 5gb (sign up from the touchpad to get it).

happy with my new toy so far.

me and the wife got the 32gb. i went to my bb at 9 and wife came at 930 after dropping kiddos off. think our store had about 30. so most of the people there at 10am opening got one. but they were gone as soon as the doors opened.

never would have gotten any tablet until prices come down so had to jump on these. even if i just use it to surf the web.

did waste time yesterday checking a few walmarts in the boonies so glad today was a successful hunt smile

I've decided to pick up the Samsung Attain (Galaxy 2 S) when it releases for AT&T.  Unless, the iPhone 5 stats blow me away when ever Apple decides to release them.  Been holding on the my 3GS and it's time for new phone

thats what im looking to do. i have a crummy featurephone and want something better when I can upgrade in october. looks like lots of good phones to choose from will be out at that time. leaning heavily to the galaxy 2 as want to try android. wife has a 3gs and will get the 5. i might end up dorking on her 3gs a bit and wait even longer (see what december brings)...hard to resist the upgrade though.

thought about breaking my contract (etf + newby phone price is cheaper than att 2 yr phone price) and getting the droid incredible 2 and switching to verizon. all ive read about it show its a great 3g phone and its got gsm if i travel (almost did this before the data cap but didnt have time due to vacation and didnt want to be figuring out new phone while traveling). like that its cheap for new peeps but dont think i want to be using it for 2 yrs since most stuff coming out now is dual core w/ 1gb ram. droid 3 looked interesting but dont like the limited ram. still might go to verizon if they get a good worldphone I'm interested thats not on att. thought about sprint as I like their phones but hear bad things about their network and dont know any friends using it to see how it works in my area.

Does anyone have a supplemental battery they would recommend for an iPhone?  The battery on mine just seems to be getting worse and worse, and is now barely making it through the day on a full charge.   Not a good thing when you need phone access 24/7.  icon_evil  There's a ton of batteries available that you can simply plug into the power port, but I'm not sure which one is any good.  TIA.

(Apologies if this has been discussed in the previous 28 pages...I didn't bother to look.)

I got this bad boy and LOVE it.  It has a huge capacity and can charge a # of different devices.  It also holds it's own charge for a long, long time so you don't have to really worry about plugging it in a ton.  It might be a bit overkill (I use it a lot for an iPad), but it's great.

53  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Upcoming smartphone releases on: June 22, 2011, 02:34:13 AM
I've read on lots of sites that Verizon has finally dated the end of unlimited data is 7/6. On 7/7 supposed to start 2gb for $30 and up. If you sign up before you get the unlim data. Not sure how long that lasts (until contract over? upgrade phone?). I get back home on 7/3 and so tempted to drop ATT for it but have decided to wait a few months until more phones to drop. Still the temptation of unlim data pulls me though I doubt I would use more than 2gb (Really just want a phone with wifi so I can surf faster at home than my featurephone)
54  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Upcoming smartphone releases on: June 15, 2011, 02:30:58 AM
I'm currently on att w/ featurephone (samsung flight) and want a new phone so bad. Been thinking of jumping to verizon for the incredible 2 (lately on newegg for $2 and before that $20 and its a global phone). With my etf would only be ~100 and att wont deal in store to keep me and I dont really want what they currently have anyway and want unlimited data (currently dont have it). I do like what I've read of the galaxy s2 but not sure how long I can wait (And wondering the cost + etf). Thought about nexus s too but dont like that it has no sd slot, but it is pure google. Probably waiting until midJuly due to vacation at end of this month but ready for a real phone. I do want a world phone though so if s2 on verizon isnt would either go dinc2 for the unlim data or wait until oct to get s2 on att. Slightly tempted to wait next iphone but really want a more open phone though I do like my wife's 3gs and we could then share apps.
55  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii U on: June 09, 2011, 01:25:51 AM
Im interested but wouldnt be a first adaptor.

I still prefer pc stuff to console but enjoy my wii and ps2 and handhelds (ds,psp) when I want something different. I do like that I could go from tv to the upad thing since wife or kiddos always hog the main tv. I might just end up going pc and handheld only though, but might have to see how much more the wiiu is vs psp vita or 3ds. Using the upad as an ipadish web/netflix thing would be nice too as currently just use phone or lappy if not on main pc.

Need to really work on my backlog before getting something new though, but it would play my wii games smile

quick google fu has abandonia saying this to run it:

Apart from using DOS, DosBox and VDMSound, Judgment Rites can be ran in plain Windows XP with full sound and music, altough that requires a bit of fiddling. Right-click on the game executable and select [PROPERTIES]. Then go to [MEMORY] tab. Change all drop-boxes to "automatic" and put a tick in the "protected" checkbox. In order to get the sound running, run the game's setup and select "Roland SCC-1/General Midi" for music and "Sound Blaster Pro" for sound effects. While reason would dictate using the latter for both, it only results in the game playing with sound effects but no music.

So in vista/w7 maybe try setting to windows xp if it fails to run at first.

Also saw sierrahelp.com list it as w7 compatable but they did list dosbox by it.

65  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP - What 2010 games should I look at? on: February 15, 2011, 02:56:53 AM
Last PSP game I picked up was Little Big Planet. Mostly been playing my pc and ds lately but redug out my PSP to play some more LBP and other older stuff.

Any must have/play 2010 games for it?

Think I'm mostly looking for strategy or rpg. I did see Legends of War - Patton Campaign that looks interesting. Combat reminds me of Warhammer Squad Command, which I liked. Any thing else similar to these 2 combatwise? Looking for something different from FF Tactics style, which I have and enjoy too.

Why have 2 sets of laws (marriage law & civil union law) that would cover the same thing? Seems like a lot more bureacracy and not very conservative/small gov't. For any change to 1 you would have to do it for both. Lots of paperwork.
67  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Let's talk about governing by religion on: February 12, 2011, 06:45:41 PM
Its easier to go for the ban gays/abortions then to try and work to fix the economy, especially if its not something that affects you personally. OK is also going for creationism in science classes. Thats sure to bring in some good jobs here smile

I also think those at the top (all sides) don't necessarily care since they have the power/money/connections for it to not really affect them (Fly to another country to get abortion or have it discreetly done, not gay or can hire lawyer to guarantee their spouse gets same rights/treatment as a married couple or are just treated different due to power/money, etc.)

They do need to choose what denomination the US should be as just saying we are a Christian nation confuses my agnostic self. Which group's beliefs are the ones that we are expected to believe in or our laws should follow? I also want to sit back and enjoy the arguments over which side is right/more American.

if going windows lappy I'd look for one with nvidia or ati graphics and not intel integrated. of course the newer/more demanding game you want to play the more your going to have to pay for the laptop. should be able to google or youtube the vid card to see what kind of performance/games you could expect to play with it.

Mudhoney (still my fav right behind NoMeansNo and both still releasing some good stuff), Melvins, Tad, Lard, Steel Pole Bath Tub, Rollins Band, etc (Most are really late 80s but become more bigger in early 90s or I finally heard them then due to lack of intertubes). Lots of stuff on Subpop or Amphetamine Reptile. Its still what I listen too though I've added late 90s stoner/fuzz rock to the mix. Lovs me garage and noise rock and early 80s punk before that (SST, Alternative Tentacles).

Have you peaked in the case to see if it can only fit a single slot card? Seems most new cards take up more than 1 slot. This is my current issue with upgrading my gateway (Have a tuner card right under vid that won't fit any other slot). I'm going from a HD 4650 (which isn't too shabby for stock) to either a HD 5670 or GT 240 which seemed to be the only 1 slotters unless I go for older tech (Most of which run hotter or need a bigger PSU than I have). Either will probably suit my needs fine as I play at 1440x900 and don't mind medium settings.

I recently dvr'd it and then watched it. It was OK but my least fav. Bad cgi annoyed me more than some of the hokier aspects of the film. Or if it wasn't bad cgi just bad props. Hard to explain but even the first scene where they are just driving the dust and ww2 era cars just look fake as opposed to the grittiness of Raiders. Maybe it was sound stage/set vs real location thing for me because some parts of the movie looked fine.

EDIT: Dark Messiah Might and Magic if you don't mind a more actiony fps w/ rpg elements. Very linear but fun game.
