161  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: ARMA 1 now Or should I just wait for ARMA 2? on: March 17, 2009, 04:25:00 PM
I would say get it if its cheap enough and you like OFP. Not as many mods as OFP but there is still stuff out there.

I only play SP so not sure how big the MP part is but know groups still play it, such as simhq. That's probably what the hard part of MP would be is finding a group you like playing with unless your into just pubbing.

Though if you have a backlog or other games you want to play why not play those and wait for the better between Arma2 and OFP2.

EDIT: I just fired it up and there are a good amount of servers with players as long as you want coop goodness. There are some a handful team games but most seemed to be small (8ish) coop games with a focus on the Evolution map.

What kind of MP are you wanting to play? If you want larger team vs team why not just fire up BF2, JointOps or something like that.

Hmmm I wonder how to shut off a core? Ill look that up. Really want to replay this one. Ive replayed the 2nd one..its just no where as good as the first one.

I have only a single core but have read how to set the core to the game.

Start the program and then alt tab out. Then right click the game in the task manager to select the affinity/core. Google fu processor affinity for more info. Might also try dual core + game to see what comes up.

RPS has a few youtube vids of it. I haven't read the comments to see if anyone there played it.

Watching the vids makes me want to replay SoC but I'm busy with other games. I still need to get Clear Skies. I'll definitely play around with this 2004 version too.

One of the few shows I watch and all the others are getting close to ending. Guess I can catch up on other series or movies I haven't seen or rewatch other stuff.

Just hope they can give it a decent ending and not just a cliffhanger or any resolution.

166  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Drakensang english demo (win a copy!) on: March 03, 2009, 03:21:35 AM
RPGWatch now has a specific Drakensang section and its decently active.

I'm currently doing the murder mystery quest and enjoying the game. Main thing that bugs me is that enemies don't have the loot (weapons) on them that is displayed (or at least it seems that way). Not a deal breaker just I hate not seeing getting the weapons they seem to be holding. I do like that my own people do change based on what they wear and their images change too based on what they are wearing.

169  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Drakensang english demo (win a copy!) on: February 25, 2009, 03:27:46 AM
Still in the start area. Mainly using my plant lore skill to get plants. Bought 2 plans so I can use different plants for a salve or poison cure. So far I really like the character gui. Right click most things to get a nice pop up full of info. Hover over skills and it will show you which attributes affect it. Probably in the book but after years of poor manuals I really don't read them anymore. I have some skill points to use but not sure where yet. So many decisions.

One bad thing I noticed during buying stuff. There is an accept but no cancel option so I'm not sure if there is anyway to negate a purchase after you click to buy it. Hitting ESC seemed to be the same as accept. Buy screen has the good right click feature to where it tells you more about the item. Still needs a cancel though.
170  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Drakensang english demo (win a copy!) on: February 25, 2009, 01:07:25 AM

I tried the demo yesterday for a bit and it played decent on my ancient barton 2500. Think my 7600GT and 2GB ram help. Running at 1440x900 w Med settings and no shadows. Looks good for a rig as old as mine. Should look way better on high and w/ the higher res textures on. I still need to run fraps to see my fps but it feels fine. Didn't do any quests yet just running around the start area talking to people and getting quests. Seems good enough so I went ahead and took the plunge to get the game since its $30 and I had a $5 coupon from BB (Been saving it for Stalker Clear Skies but they have been out of stock forever now). Trying out the Prospector Dwarf since I liked how he looked (Makes me think of a tech dwarf in Arcanum).

EDIT: Played with fraps for a second and I get mostly a steady 20-25 fps. I thought it would be higher as it still feels really smooth. Probably care if it was an FPS but since I can pause its no big deal. Like I said though it feels smooth which is more than acceptable to me on my ancient rig. Do wish there was some way to change mouse2 and mouse3 as it would make it control more like NWN1 (Never played 2), but I don't see it in options (only key mapping changes and mouse sensitivity/invert) or in any ini type files. Manual seems decent for this day and age (50 pgs). The box sort of sucks since after removing the cover its a blank dvd case so I cut up the outer box to make it fit in the dvd case.

Otherwise I liked it.

What makes you so certain that was actually him? I vote he was either possessed by the smoke monster already, or he was dead and the monster manifested as him (an ability that has been documented earlier). If we assume that Danielle was correct and her people actually got "sick", it might mean that they were all possessed or manifestations eventually.

That works. I just found it funny as I would have been screaming like mad man. smile
172  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The PSP2 and the Return of Sony on: February 13, 2009, 12:15:33 AM
DS has tons of piracy too as the flash card things are cheap and easy to use.

The PSP needs to have cheaper development costs (Isn't it closer to last gen consoles than the DS?). Maybe the DS, while easy to pirate for, has enough purchases to cover its lower dev costs.

I like both of them and can't wait to see what comes out next as handhelds seem to be more my thing now since the TV is normally occupied and I can play them without being in another room from my wife.

175  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga: Episode I: The Phantompressions on: February 05, 2009, 03:25:10 AM
I play it a lot with my 4.5 year old. Nice way of getting him into the movies too. Best part is he likes the original trilogy sections more so far (He likes seeing the parts with the one he calls Dark Vader smile )

Its funny seeing his tactics change as at first he would switch to a robot to avoid combat so it would all go to me unless he got hit by random fire (Thought it was a nifty way he figured out how to avoid being shot). Now that he likes/understands the game more he enjoys the combat parts too. I still really like the join/unjoin feature so that I or he can quit as desired/needed.

I plan on picking up the Indiana Jones game at some point as I like those too, but not Batman as I'm not as much a fan of that one.

Arma2 or OFP2 need to be good so I have a reason to upgrade even though ArmA would run so much better if I did now. I love me some old school tac-sims. Either those or Ground Branch, I just need tactical lovin'.

If you don't want to spend a lot get a used n64. That and a few games should be cheap. Maybe try GT or OO forums or see if any friends have an old one sitting around if you dont want to use ebayish things. Though if you get a Wii you could play lots of n64/gamecube/other system classics. Tons of cheap gaming goodness in a PS2 if you don't/never had one of those too.

Counter Strike but I haven't played it in a few years now, but did spend many with it in the past.

Next up would be NWN1. Played the full platinum edition and spent lots of time in MP on some PWs. I still have a few premium modules and user made modules I need to play though.

Then Joint Ops. Played lots of MP of this. I had stopped playing CS, didn't have any of the BF games and wanted something cheap with vehicles.

OFP comes in 4th due to its custom content and me playing lots of random missions from a groups random game generator. This is my best cost/fun ratio as I got the gold version used for ~$1 (Cost more to ship it to me).

Somewhere in there is also Morrowind, Oblivion and now Fallout 3. I probably played Gothic 1 a lot too but dont have xfire stats for it.

The hardest thing is deciding what I should tell you and what not to. Well, anyway, I've got a while yet before you're old enough to understand the tapes. They're more for me at this point... to help get it all straight. Should I tell you about bacon? That's a tough one. Will it change your decision to send it here... knowing? But if you don't send bacon, you could never be. God, you can go crazy thinking about all this... I suppose I'll tell you... I owe it that. And maybe it'll be enough if you know that in the few hours we had together I ate a lifetime's worth.

188  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: *SHOCKER* Gamestop pisses me off again on: January 08, 2009, 02:57:29 AM
I went there the other day because I had gift card. Unless I am looking for used games (old PS2/Xbox1/GBA..not the $5 off kind) I don't go there.

No clue if what I bought was new or used since it was opened but the disc was really clean. Has some lint stuff from the envelope it was in but no fingerprints. They said it was the last one and I assume it was true as other times I did get a wrapped one from the back. Good enough since I had a gift card to use but no way would I go there for a new game. A few lingering doubts though since they asked if I wanted a used one but no noticeable marks on the disc to make me care to much since I had to get something there.

Last new thing I bought there was Stalker SOC because it was closed box and noone else had the game locally.

I'll continue clearing my pc backlog and acquiring a few more bargain bin game that my old rig can run. Maybe mess with some more NWN, OFP or ArmA mods or attempt my own.

My main enemy will be controlling my WII collection though I got a lot of the main games with christmas/giftcards. I play games slowly so it will keep me busy awhile. If not I always have my xbox/ps2 backlog to fall back on when I can actually use the main tv. Guess I should clear out some DS/PSP games too when the main tv is busy.

192  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Advice Needed: Wii, PS3, 360, or new gaming PC on: January 02, 2009, 03:20:18 AM
Look at the systems to see if any of the games interest you. Same with the PC upgrade. Are there upcoming games you really want to play so you need an upgrade or would you be content playing your current games or grabbing other current/older titles you missed? If content than get a console/portable that has games interesting to you. If there is a must play PC game your current rig can't play then upgrade.

Portable does sound good since you will be traveling. DS sounds better than the PSP since you mentioned liking the N's franchises. I have both but if I could only have one I would want my DS.

Almost never. Think I've seen only 2 movies in a theatre over the last 5 years or so. Doubt I've been to 5 in over 15 years. I like movies I just dont feel the need to rush out and see them. I've also built up a lifetime quota of being at a movie theatre since I worked at one during high school. Maybe I subconsciously fear the smell of movie popcorn will take me back to that dark evil time...

I've finished 20 games so far this year and am currently 30hrs/12 lvl in Fallout3. Think last year I only finished 8 or so as I decided to stop playing MP games (Mostly NWN PWs) and messing with OFP/ArmA random missions late in the year. I've done well but still have a restocked backlog as games I want to play hit the $10 mark so I snag them. Not much more I can get on my aging rig but I don't mind finally clearing the whole log and then replaying old/new favs or checking out mods. Then I have my console backlog to keep me busy.

Who in the hell do they keep selling these Wii's to? Surely everyone who wants one has bought one by now! Poor poor Sony.  They deserve it but I can't help but pity them.  They had both Microsoft and Nintendo in a death grip last gen and now look at them.  They can barely outsell their old iteration.

That's a good question. Although, it's pretty obvious who they're selling to - people who are buying Wii Play and Wii Fit. Who knows if they'll buy any other games though.

That fits me. Wife picked one up for wii fit. I couldn't justify it myself as I mainly play PC or handheld (DS & PSP) and have a last gen backlog (xbox1/ps2). But if she wants to get one I'm more than happy to have another console. I never had a gamecube so I now get to play those too along with the wii games I have been eyeing.
