I went with the Harmony adapter too. The price has seemed to increase somewhat as I paid just under $50 around Black Friday for it. For the convenience of using a single remote for something I'm going to be using a lot of (Blu-Ray player) I justified the price and have been happy with it.
1442  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains on: December 21, 2009, 10:51:53 PM
From what I'm reading they filmed this one back to back in Somoa (same location) and it just finished filming. Russell is in it which means he had to go right back in to the game after Somoa wrapped. That's really tough to do but as Amanda from Survivor China and Micronesia (Fans vs Favorites) proved it can be done - she made it to the final 2 in both.

Last night Russel looked pretty beat and certainly lost a bunch of weight which might be telling to how far he went in this next Survivor. They'll throw him on the Villains team but damn if he isn't a Survivor hero.

Well it was definetly a specticle. I think the comment about how you stopped thinking of the characters as CG and more like just another character on the screen, like Gollum, is spot on. Really just sat there and enjoyed it.

I saw it with the Real D 3D projection and was pleased with the results. There were a few odd moments at the beginning where things popping out of the screen had a strange flicker to it that didn't look very good and really took me out of the spectacle. But as the film progressed I either got used to it or it was seemless enough to stop noticing. In the end I just enjoyed how the 3D added an additonal layer of depth to the picture. It was really the best use of 3D I've seen in a film and wasn't there just for gimicks.

Looking forward to seeing it on IMAX next.

So this topic is months old but it asks the exact question I was going to pose. Has anyone since June found a better (larger) controller for the PS3 that will prevent someone with large hands from cramping up after an hour of use? I'm loving the first Uncharted but really can't play now because of the awful awful design of the stock PS3 controller.

If the Xbox 360 controller works for you then you might consider the Rocketfish controller from Best Buy which has the same layout as the 360. I went out and bought one the same night I got the PS3 after trying to play Killzone 2 with the Dual Shock. I've been extremely happy with the Rocketfish.

Is the whole movie in 3d for Imax, or just parts of it?  It's gonna be real fun with trying to wear the 3d glasses over my glasses.

The 3D glasses of today will fit over your regular glasses.

Unless you wear something like this.

So does anyone know which 3D projection is the one to watch this in? I notice there are two types in my area:

Digital 3D and Real D 3D.

Anyone know what the difference between these two are and if they are at all noticeable? The IMAX theater around here is showing it in Digital 3D on both the regular and IMAX screens. But I notice a few other theaters here are touting showing it in Real D 3D.

What 3D is the one to see it in if you have a choice? I figure I'll catch it on the IMAX in a month when traffic dies down but wondering which one I should go see it in on the regular screens.

I watched the original movie not too long ago when they put it on Netflix streaming. I hadn't heard of it even though it was by Luc Besson (Fifth Element) so figured I'd watch it. I didn't expect much but it ended up being a great time. It's like a crazy Jackie Chan meets Escape from NY mash up done by the French. Lots of energy, colorful characters, insane situations and some wild stunts.

I'll still wait for the sequel to hit DVD before seeing it but looking for to watching it.

Those impressions are not helpful much since they are impressions of just the tutorial. And not even the entire tutorial as they didn't even get to the commanding a ship part - which is equally basic. Not sure why they even bothered to write impressions for 10 minutes of play. And they even left out impressions of the loading screen. It says "Star Trek" and everything!  slywink
1452  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Flash Forward on: December 07, 2009, 07:25:06 PM
The last few episodes definitely were not as engrossing as the first few. They had kinda a neat setup with the missing daughter from the military but instead of using that line to advance some of the story they have her sitting at home drunk. The main character has some major trust issues to the point where you hate him. The doctor looking for his Tokyo girl turned out to be pretty boring despite her being kinda cute. The altruistic kid is annoying. There seems to be some last minute sidestepping on just who is responsible for the blackout - maybe I missed something but didn't they actually admit to causing it in the poker game.

I wish they played up a more sci-fi reason for the cause than some potential scientific screw up or a potential conspiracy.

I'll still keep it on the DVR but this season ending killed off a lot of the interest I initially had in the show.

2 million in sales bad practice.

Honestly the demo levels they offered were kinda poor and not a good representation of a lot of the other levels offered that are really good. If you played the original L4D you would know what to expect for the sequel. Gameplay wise its not too far off.

If you don't have the original they have been practically giving it away off-and-on for awhile now.

Dunno if I'd put Bionic Woman in there even though I did watch it but didn't care that it got canceled. I would add Journeyman in there as I felt disheartened once it got pulled. The underling plot and the writing for that show was really better than most stuff on TV at the time. They ended it without getting to explain why these people were time traveling and having that loose thread hanging sucks.

My honorable mentions:

The Lost Room - would have liked to seen this continue as a series but am ok where it ended
4400 - even though after season 2 it started to suck would have been nice to have some closure
Moonlight - despite being a chick show the ongoing story was pretty decent and I likely would have watched a second season...or two.

I don't think you can without being able to log in and managing your account.

There may be a site that tracks Wow characters and displays their armor and what not. I know EQ2 has something like that on a few pages. If there's a page like that then you may be able to see their status.

Same issue here. Cancelled the account in 2005 some time - just got email(s) about it being banned like you. I did manually log on the account - and that also says I am banned. So it is legit. No clue where to go from here. I emailed them but from my work email account because I couldn't get my 'official wow' email account to work from work for some reason.  I am locked out of my account maintenance so I can't change the email addr. round and around we go.

I have a new comptuer and Wow is not even installed - infact - I don't even think it is installed on my now 'old'  comptuer I used for the last year and a half - So unless they got my account info back in 2005 - the only way they could have gotten it sence then is from bizzard. Not from my machine.

So this whole account takeover ended interesting enough with KT making out like a bandit. To recap KT and I haven't played WoW since 2005. In 2008 KT got an email saying she had been banned from the service and could not access her account.

This weekend I had an odd hankering to play WoW and had two Burning Crusade Trial disks sitting on my shelves since around 2007. So we decided "why not?" and began the long patch process for entering WoW. I got in fine and all my characters were there. KT on the other hand couldn't access her account as it had been banned for "exploitation of the World of Warcraft economy or for being associated to accounts which have been  closed for intended exploitation." She went through the process of getting the account back by sending Blizzard a scan of her drivers license.

Blizzard responded promptly the next day and she had her account back. From the account history we could see someone paid for a complete month in 2008 and then entered in a 60-day game card after that. 5 days after they put in the 60-day game card they got banned from WoW. By now we pretty much feared the worst figuring the account had been stripped clean.

Things got worse when KT couldn't get in to the Burning Crusade trial. It kept saying the account was ineligible. With a little investigation we turned up that the Burning Crusade expansion was already added. So whomever had control of the account actually purchased the expansion.

We weren't sure what to do at that point. It looked like we would have to pony up the $15 to see the account. Thankfully there was a 10-day trial for the Wrath of the Lich King and KT was able to use that one to get in to the game.

What we discovered kinda blew us away. Not only were all her characters still there with everything on them but her main character had gone from L55 to L70 and was all decked out and on a flying mount.

It could have ended badly but whatever Blizzard was doing to track this stuff and effectively disable the account so only the original owner can get back at it seems to work pretty week. Kudos to them.

I'm sad to say I saw both of those movies in theaters and remember it. Hell I can recall acting like I was Super Fuzz on the playground.

Nice little trivia about Heartbeeps - John Williams wrote the score for it.

Another movie I saw in theaters I kinda want to add to this group is Saturday the 14th. I only vaguely recall it but I get the sense it was fun.  One for sure I'll add to the list is Modern Problems with Chevy Chase.

There seems to be speculation they're letting people in in waves. Which I guess makes sense if they're trying to limit bandwidth problems. For Champions Online it was awful on the open beta launch day just trying to get in the game. They had screwed up the pre-launch beta downloads and instead of having all those pre-downloads install a small file it started installing the whole 2gig game. The downloading was so slow as everyone else was trying to do the same thing. So if they're doing the waves it may be to avoid having it take a full day for people to download the game.

It would be nice to have them explain what their plans are for adding people.

I haven't gotten an email invite yet either.

I wish there was more to the final boss fight than what there was but by the time I got to that point I was pretty satisfied with the game so was fine with it ending. I ended up at L28 with 12k gold and 10 learning points I couldn't decide what to use with. I was a battle-mage with L7 sword skill and L10 frost skill.

Skills I found most useful:

- lockpicking
- sneak
- alchemy (for + stat potion)
- pickpocket (L2 worked well)
- smithing (for later in the game when working with obsidian)

I didn't find much use for scroll or rune casting even though I maxed both those.

Great game overall. I went ahead and installed Gothic 2 Gold as lot of people seem to be comparing this one to that. Hopefully I can get past the horrid controls this time.

1474  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: World War Z Movie on: October 14, 2009, 06:46:54 PM
Just a heads up the The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks graphic novel is out now. It's basically an anthology where it shows zombie outbreaks over the years - starting with cavemen. The art in the book is really good. Lots of detail and not a wasted frame - which is important as there isn't a whole lot of text here. I went through the book in about an hour and got from it about what I expected.

There's a few memorable stories including a gruesome zombie domino effect aboard a slave ship and a story about some Russian Cossacks that get whats coming to them. But my favorite of the bunch would have to be a story involving the French Foreign Legion who get little warning about an army of undead coming their way. I could see that one being made in to a TV style movie.

If you liked World War Z or the original Survival Guide this is a nice addition to add to the collection.

Hmm interesting. There is mission later on in the game where you get a similar injection that does the same thing but you can't use it outside of that mission. But I can't see the connection between Mr. Zombie and that mission so it may be a mistake rather than some early tie-in, which would be nice.

Was pretty bored by this episode. I liked the setup focusing on the recent high profile celebrity deaths but the Six Sense parody's is overdone, the Poltergeist one wasn't funny and the Ghost Hunter one was basically one joke for 5 minutes. When it got to Michael Jackson I thought it would improve but him trying to win a pageant? Pretty lame.

With all the dead celebs they had to choose from it seemed to me they missed a great opportunity by primarily focusing on just the two - and really Billy Mays???

Was that Chipolte bleeding thing based on a news story or something? The whole thing had me going "huh?"
