I think I'm more peeved that they're allowed to be on the jury and vote who wins. That should not be. You quit you shouldn't have a say in anything in the game.

Kinda hoping Dan wins this season to seal it as the worst one.

So the massive update was added to the game the other day. If you are a F2P person Lowlands is now free for all so you can quest up to about 34-35 level range. There's some nice improvements to the bank to allow easier sorting of items. They added a bunch of items to the various factions where they had little to offer before (e.g horses/weapons/armor/etc). And to help gain faction and fill out those quest leveling gaps they added random daily quests.

They also have a promotion going on the entire month where one new store item each day will be 50% off.

Lots of good ones up there today. Dirt 2 and Metro 2033 are steals. Will probably get Alien vs Predator for that price and eying the Indie Air Pack even though I probably won't try anything but Gratuitous Space Battles.

It seemed like all my Steam Black Friday purchases are impulse buys on games I hadn't considered buying but can't pass up the cheap price on. Had no intention of playing Alpha Protocol or Kane and Lynch 2. And seeing as I have yet to install GTA 4 since purchasing it 2 years ago I probably shouldn't have gotten Episodes from Liberty City. But then again I only spent about $20 on all that.

The one game I was hoping they would have a deal on, Darksiders, didn't appear. Maybe before X-mas.

You can buy stuff off Playstation Network with dollars (quite a novel idea, huh?) Or is you concern putting your credit card info into their system?

Yeah, I'd rather not give them my credit card info. I know it's all very safe now on the Internet slywink but I'm still a bit of a chicken.

I don't like doing that either so I do my PSN purchases through Amazon. When you buy PSN content on Amazon you get a code for the game/content then enter that code in to PSN. The content is then unlocked.

I do notice that it sometimes takes a few days for content to appear on Amazon after release. And I'm not sure if they match sale prices if PSN is doing a dealie on a game/content as I don't purchase a whole lot on PSN. But I've gotten a few games and Zen Pinball tables without issues.

If you go to the Video Games section on Amazon you'll see a category for Playstation Network.
1286  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Alpha Protocol, now with impressions! on: November 28, 2010, 01:13:30 AM
I started playing with the gamepad and like that better. But some of the quick switches of the camera angles suck - like when you jump or climb down from somewhere the camera is usually in an awkward location where I can't see what I need to see.

Stealth doesn't seem to be working all that well but it also doesn't seem to matter. Took a mission where I needed to place bugs all around an airport without being detected. There's a gaurd right in front of you when you enter the level. So I moved a bit away from my initial cover and was detected. After killing a bunch of guards I was able to disable the alarm only to have it go off the next time I tried a zipcord. I completed the mission just running and gunning. For some reason the mission was a success and I got a boat loat of money.

Oh well. $5

They are good games but can get somewhat tough. I had to restart the game once or twice as I got myself in to a hole. But once things get rolling its hard to put down. $9 for all three games is a steal. I didn't have the expansion (Crossworlds) so picked that up for $5.
1289  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie]Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on: November 22, 2010, 08:33:28 PM
This is the one of the few movies I've seen where I liked the movie better than the book. I didn't care for the last book so my expectations were not high going in. So I was surprised when I found I didn't want it to end. Definitely a dark film with few light moments. But I was digging that the actors had a wee bit more serious content to chew on. That dance scene in the tent kinda surprised me as when they started I was like "what the hell is this? This is gonna be dumb" but turned out to be sweet.

It was a bit odd to leave on such a down note in the film too. Not a single clap from the audience when it was over.

Its hard to say where this stacks for me in ranking with the other films since it was such a different flavor than the others.

This has been a horrible season but this last episode was fantastic. Finally a major wakeup call to many of the players. I think it was actually Holly, the lady who wanted to quit at like day 2, that realized Brenda was a threat and had to get shit moving. NaOnka, bless her insane head, took the idea of getting Brenda out and ran with it. I'm glad that Brenda/Sash alliance is broken up as if that alliance held there would have been little excitment in who they would choose to vote out week after week.

On top of this wake up call you had what had to be one of the best stupid things Survivors had done by protecting their fire with 3 wooden chests full of supplies and then leave it! Oh how wonderful that was! And to top it off they were shocked these things could catch fire.

There was much more goodness in this episode. I loved Jeff Probsts ragging on the losing team of the reward challenge. "And Benre with the ceremonial loser dismount!" Ha! Then you had one of the best immunity challenges ever with young vs old. How could you not root for Jane in that challenge. That was a most satisfying conclusion. And yet another great moment was when Kelly Purple finally got some screen time...and showed viewers exactly why she's not shown. Hillarious!

Best episode of the season.

Swedish with sub-titles - just to warn those away who cannot stand sub-titles or do not speak Swedish.

Wasn't as taken by the second film as I was the first. It seemed like they were trying to make it a james bond style film complete with a villinous henchman. I got lost during some of the plot lines but it was certainly watchable. I still love the Lisbeth character.
1294  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Skyline trailer on: November 16, 2010, 12:17:18 AM
That pretty much sums up my feelings for it too.

Reading some of the critics reviews and seeing the 11% Rotten Tomatoes Meter score I was expecting the worst. But it was actually watchable. The FX were the main attraction of course and they ranged from very impressive to needing a bit of work. The story didn't come close to satifying me in adequetly explaining things and because the limited locations of the film there wasn't enough of a ride to forget about the explination.

I would have been satisfied with seeing it on Netflix streaming.

I agree That the guts thing was new and created some of the most tense moments I have ever experienced in a television, once i stopped laughing at sausage links hanging around their necks smile

I dunno. That seemed familar to me. Either something I read or had seen in another zombie movie where that was tried. The blending in thing certainly has been done going way back to Invasion of the Body Snatchers. But for whatever reason it didn't seem a new concept to me. I'm probably just geeking out on zombie lore knowledge.

As for the moral dilemma that would have probably worked better if the guy wasn't such a threat. He was ready to fight and potentionally kill others. If he was released that likely would have happened again so why let them go? If the person was someone who was weak, confused and in need of assistance it would have been more impactful. I think they missed the mark on it.
1301  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Walking Dead stroll onto AMC on: November 09, 2010, 12:56:24 AM
Didn't care so much for the second episode. I like that it veered from the comics but the episode wasn't compelling at all. Pretty much standard zombie stuff. It seemed like they were trying to shoot for some ethical dilemma with the van realization at the end "oh shit what did we do?" but the person central to that dilemma was so despicable who cares? The gore scene was over the top silliness and to me it came across as the television network trying to boast what they could get away with in showing gross out moments.

Damn reading all that back I sound jaded...but I guess I am as I've read/watched/played so many zombie things I'm just looking for something more clever and new. I'm sticking around for the show but I really hope they don't lose focus on what they set up and turn it in to another low budget zombie flick.

I do have to say I loved the final scene.

It was still up last night but dunno about today. If the Halloween event message appears on the login screen then it may still be up.

Just an FYI on the Haunted House after the initial timed quest you get in there you have to exit the haunted house to pick up all the other quests (can only do 1 quest at a time). The first time in there I was running all over the place looking for the other quests not realizing I had to turn in the one I was doing to get the others.
1304  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Recommend a spooky, maybe "doom like" FPS? on: November 02, 2010, 06:44:26 PM
Amnesia at the top of the list (not a shooter). L4D2 for sure. Bioshock. Prey. Doom 3 which felt like a haunted house to me and I enjoyed that but many did not. Minecraft if you're willing to be a bit creative (not a shooter). Dead Space for a 3rd person shooter. Resident Evil 4 has a few scares. Call of Cthulhu was a bit scary for the first few hours but then got crummy so only get on the cheap.

Not sure how System Shock 2 holds up in the scares department. I played it a few years ago again and it was more for nostalgic interests. Undying doesn't hold up in the scares department and was a bit of a let down when I played it again a few months ago. I had very font memories of that game. Fear 2 I didn't find scary at all and was a bit boring to boot.

This turned out a lot better than I thought. I've read the first three "books" in the series and overall thought the books were just ok. So the series was a nice improvement adding some new scenes and situations. Hopefully they can keep it up.

The last 5 minutes or so were when it took a dive for me. It basically turned in to the a-typical zombie horror flick with the moaning and the chomping on guts and what not. Wish they had done something unexpected or new there rather than same old same old. Then to follow that up with an odd music montage kinda turned me off.

But up until that point I was really enjoying what was there.

If you purchase Mines of Moria it comes with the 2 extra character slots and the two new classes with the L50 zones. But its a bit pricey in the online store (2500 points) if you don't have any characters close to 50. Maybe some Black Friday and X-mas deals in the near future.

Haven't finished it yet but its a lot better than I thought it would be. I never watched Big Brother and not at all familiar with the UK personalies but that hasn't effected me from enjoy it. Whew. Safe. Nothing on there I want or already have.

Good deal on Metro 2033 and totally worth it at that price. Neat story and fantastic atmosphere. Check out the demo if you are unsure about the game.

It seems generally recommended to play the game in easy mode as the other levels make it too difficult. I went with that recommendation and I think that was the correct choice. Its a story driven game and focuses more on that than the FPS combat. So on easy I didn't feel I needed to worry about conserving ammo which just made for a better overall experience.

As a lifer what they offer is fine. Was hoping they would offer monthly points on top of it but oh well not a huge deal. I'm playing it irregularly - mainly jumping on when new content is added. I still see myself selling the lifetime account in the future and I imagine the move to F2P has upped the value so I'm good with that.
1314  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Arcania: Gothic 4 on: October 27, 2010, 04:00:19 AM
Ok. So while everyone else is playing the shit this week (Rock Band 3/Fable 3/Force Unleashed 2/etc) I've been finishing up this game. I figured I was probably getting close to finishing the game at about 13 hours in but I was waaaay wrong. It took me 23hrs of play time to finish the game. Holy cow it went on far longer than it should have.

The game plays like Diablo II-lite. Then after about 15 hours they throw away and semblance of an RPG and your quests narrow down to basically a single quest line.

I did like some things about the game. The game looks wonderful. There are certainly some impressive visuals to it and probably the best looking game since Just Case 2. It's also mindless fun. Once you get some decent armor and weapons you become death and destruction. You can pretty easily take down anything thrown at you and  it's just fun to mow down enemies so easily.

I even grew to like some of the minor bugs in the game. All trees in the game sway like there are hurricane force winds blowing - except you never hear any wind. Once you get to the swamplands this phenomenon is hillarious with all the deep rooted trees jiggigling and swaying. I also grew to love the dialogue bugs. The voice actor for the main NPC was likely recorded seperately from all other NPCs. Any time a strange name is said the NPC voice actors will say it one way and the main character will say it another.

NPC: "Can you bring these seeds to Jabbo?"
Main: "Who is this Jaybo?"
NPC: "Jabbo lives in a hut down a ways on the left"
Main: "Fine. I will bring these to Jaybo"

It's almost as if the main character is trying to be a pisser on purpose. Unintentional but funny.

There's a lot wrong with the game and I wouldn't reccomend spending $50 on it. If you liked Gothic this is nothing like it. Best to think of it as a new game. I would reccomend it once it gets down in the $20 or lower area. I put 23 hours in to it and while it wasn't the best gaming experience I've had it wasn't awful either.

1316  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Arcania: Gothic 4 on: October 22, 2010, 12:41:20 AM

I think I died exactly once to monsters in the full game so far and that was due to lazyness of just going in and swinging away (I'm more of a caster). Battles are simple affairs especially if you use a combination of ice (slow) and melee. It'll also work fine if you just use arrows while back up but that takes longer.

I'm enjoying the game for what it is but it's definetly a C grade action RPG. I'm about 13 hours in now and getting close to having my fill of the game but think I'm close to the end now which is just fine. I've got the Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod ready for playing after I wash my hands of this one.

1319  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Arcania: Gothic 4 on: October 18, 2010, 06:46:58 PM
Put a few hours in to this the last couple of days and it pretty much meets what Razgon has said. It's basically Fable lite in the way it plays but is missing a lot of the stuff that made Fable fun. I have yet to hit a single puzzle style quest. Just about all quests are kill/find x number of things. For each quest there's usually a dirt path that leads you right to where you need to go. So its almost funny to see all these dirt paths snaking all over the place. I know if I follow a dirt path I'll usually end up at a quest location.

There's a plot involving a war but I'm not too sure who are the good or bad guys and just how many factions are involved in the war. You get a smattering of talk about the war from talking to NPCs but nothing is clearly laid out so you can say  "Ah ha! He's the guy I need to support!" All I know is my guy wants to kill the King he may or may not be crazy.

The game could have used some extra time to clean up a few technical issues. I've run in to issues where dialogue repeats and character textures do not line up correctly.  For instance I had a conversation with this guy where his teeth kept appearing just below his lip. He had this line of dialogue "... I'm too old for this shit." Then the camera angle changed slightly and he said the same line "... I'm too old for this shit" with his teeth jutting out from under his lip. Another guy I was talking to was wearing a robe that was slightly open near the top so you could see part of his neck line. However his face/neck texture didn't quite fit the robe so there was an alarmingly small gap between part of the robe and the neckline.

However even with the basic quests, not knowing what is going on, and technical issues I still like the game. It's mindless action RPG-lite and I'm digging that at the moment. If it's 15-hours that's about the perfect amount for this.

You need to go to the Marketplace Add-ons section to see them both. When I went to My Games > Fable II > Downloads it only displayed one of the add-ons for free.
