Surprisingly I thought Tim had one of the best performances of the night. I thought he sounded great and actually performed the song really well. He didn't resort to the creepy stare he normally does.

But yeah Ryan's dancing was a distraction and pretty disrespectful. Even though Tim is joke (except for tonight) that wasn't classy. Ryan seemed to be saying or doing strange crap the entire night.

I didn't care for Shiobans performance either. Even though I really liked her at the start her quirkiness is starting to get a bit old. Similar to how Kelly Pickler's dumb southern blonde act got old. I get the sense she may be in the bottom three this week.

But I'm hoping it will be Andrew and Aaron going home tonight.

So how did this one end? My TiVo cut off the last few seconds I think. Stan was saying how he sent all his profile fiends away or something and then it cut out. I'm guessing all friends went to the unpopular kid?

I thought for sure Courtney was going and they still managed to switch it up on me.  I'm still a bit confused on how it went down, as I believe the final vote was 4-3, and I'm pretty sure I saw Russell vote for Courtney.  Did Danielle stick with the plan and vote Coach?  What the heck was Russell doing, did he know they would be starting the jury already and this way he could say he never voted for Coach?  Speaking of which, if they started with 12 and jury is beginning, does that mean they are going to do a 3-person finale (9 person jury)?

Yeah, its going to be a 3-person finale. Those suck.

I'm not sure exactly why they split the vote but Russell did vote for Courtney instead of Coach. And if you noticed he also signed his Courtney vote. I hadn't seen him do that before so my thinking is he was sending Coach a message showing he was loyal to him and can say to him if he makes it to the end that he never voted for him.

Danielle voted for Coach.

I'd definitely like some inside info on what went on there with the votes. Russell may have said one thing to the girls and then did another.

Yup, some fine Amanda editing this week. That certainly compensated for Rupert's metamorphosis to an extra from Quest for Fire. Dress him up with a lion skin and club and we got our Captain Caveman live action film.

JT is in such hot water now. He tried to make the best of getting caught with his pants down but there's not much you can do to diffuse that. It was a risk looking for the idol that won't pay off now. But I love that the Hero's tribe has jumped to the conclusion that there's an all girl alliance. Could things work out any better for Russell....unless there is actually one there they haven't shown us. But I don't think there is - it's old school Survivor now and I always recall those falling apart pretty quick with the bickering.

I also love how Sandra exploited Russell's weakness for fear of people gunning for him. Well played. But I think that still worked to Russell's benefit due to this all girls alliance idea. This should solidify in the Hero' mind there is one when they meet next...well until Courtney or Sandra give it away.

But the best part of the episode for me came during the previews for the next episode where they showed all the stupid Survivor moves over the past 19 seasons - then showed a new clip of JT telling the tribe they should give the immunity idol to Russell. Bahahaha! I really hope that happens as I'd love to see their reaction when it bites them.

These last few seasons of Survivor have been so good. Just when you think things couldn't get any better something new happens to top everything before.

I noticed when Tim was asked to stand up for the results there was a lot of high-pitched squealing. I have a feeling the Aaron fan base is starting to go to Tim. I have sinking feeling though that Tim might make it to the final 4.

I'm glad they finally got rid of the save for the season. I didn't think they would use it on Mike as while he's ok he's not great. But I have to say he really seemed to be giving it his all with his performance last night. I think that was the first performance someones done since they implemented the judges save where I actually felt they should use it. But I don't think Big Mike has much of a future. He'll release an album and fade away.

Well the Russell vs Rob thing ended with a bit of a fizzle. I was hoping there would be more of a power play but it didn't seem like Rob put up much of a fight trying to get Coach and Jerri back on his side. But I did love how Coach looked like a sad puppy when Rob denied the "little man" a hug. It almost made up for the showdown fizzle. I can't wait to see what Coach says about that next week.

Colby is back! Yeeaaaaaaaah! He needed to show he was back in a big way, a competitor, a gladiator, a superman and by Jupiter cock he did! I don't know what Jerri was thinking trying to stop James 2.0 from laying up his air balls. Push, splash! Shove, shove, splash! Wiff! Wiff!

He showed he got his mansuit back. Even Candice knew not to try and stay the Beast of Somoa's hand from grabbing and squeezing her ass.

He and Rupert need to go on the WWE as the new Somoan Brothers! Ruperts got part of the look down but they both have the attitude.

I'm guessing there's going to be a merge next week which I'm really looking forward to. Russell needs a new challenge and I think that will present him with one. I'm also guessing the Hero's hidden immunity idol will play a part it in as they didn't show any scenes of them looking for or discovering it.

I also have to give it up to Jerri for realizing her old way of playing Survivor just isn't going to work and that Russell will really be an asset to her. But it sounds like Parvity is looking to start an all girls alliance...or did I hear that wrong? Didn't she mention something like that that right in front of Russell? Russell no like.

My daughter graduated with Siobhan so things around here are so Idol crazy  it is sickening. I have had to watch more of this crap then I ever thought I would. it just amazes me that with all the talent that is out there they still pick mostly crappy people to compete. I just don't get it. And who helps them pick the songs they sing some just monumentally horrible choices.

I'm sure quite a few of the choices are selected as cannon fodder for those initial weeks and so the standouts actually stand out. And there's some good ones they pick that just don't work out for whatever reason. Really the only contestants that matter are the Top 10 for the tour and then the final three.

As far as picking songs its left up to the contestants. Thats why you keep hearing the judges harp on song choices. I know in the past too some contestants have complained they had to switch songs at the last minute due to the show not being able to get the rights for their original song choice. I'm ok with the contestants choosing their own songs because it helps show if they know who they want to be as an artist and they have no one to blame but themselves if their choice is a disaster.

I think it was last season in one of the early rounds one of the girls chose to do "Every Breath You Take" by the Police. This girl was teen pop song material and decided to make the song fit her style. She had this horrible up-beat arrangement and smiled through the entire thing not realizing the song was about a creepy obsessed lover. It was hilariously bad. But half the fun of the show is watching train wrecks like that.

Not a huge fan of the book either. I had someone suggest to me it was a great book but didn't sit down to read it until I heard they were going to make a movie out of it. It wasn't a horrible book. I'd say its good but I can never see myself re-reading it.

The movie was bad but not Wing Commander bad. I at least go through the whole thing.

Here's what Tyson said on why he voted the way he did: http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/03/25/survivor-heroes-vs-villians-tyson-apostol-dumbest-move-ever/

So basically a selfish reason to try and get Russel and Russel's idol in his pocket.

I'm missing James now. The REAL James which finally showed up for this episode to offer some hilarious comments on banana etiquette and flabby guys in a muscle suit. I dunno who this other angry roidrage James was in these first few episodes. That wasn't the James I used to know and enjoyed watching. Too bad he's gone now.

But maybe this means my other favorites will show up instead of these impostors. Like Rupert! You remember him, right? That fun loving pirate! And Amanda! That never give up until the very end hottie - Ok the impostor is still hot! And Super Survivor Challenge Dominator Colby! Maybe they'll make a return - at least in the episode they are voted out.

Oh well.

Tyson is definitely up there with dumbest survivor moves ever. Why turn a win situation in to a potential no win? It wasn't quite as bad as Erik giving his immunity necklace away at tribal and then getting voted right out but its up there. I still don't quite understand how Russell was able to get Tyson to vote that way based on that speech but I guess he's a great judge of character and manipulator - but that's master level manipulation.

I did love the silly speech Russel gave for Coach's benefit about loyalty before giving the immunity idol away. I think that's going to work with getting Coach on his side. I have an odd feeling that Russel is going to turn this whole thing around. If he was able to manipulate Tyson to put it in his head to vote the way he did I have some faith he'll be able to manipulate Coach to be on his side. I'm thinking Jerri would move over with Coach too. It might be as easy as asking them "Do you want to be instrumental in taking out one of the biggest threats in Survivor history?" (which is Russel but they don't know that).

I love this Rob vs Russel showdown and hope Villains win immunity next week so the showdown continues.

I get PC Gamer and GamePro still and they fill my needs - I'm first a PC gamer and a light console gamer.

GamePro gets a lot of flack but I've been with them for about 6 years now. The mag covers both console and PC gaming but leans heavily on console gaming. It's a nice mag for me since I can just quickly flip through it and see what console games might be worth a look.

But they recently redid their magazine. It is now more article focused and less tiny paragraphs surrounded by glitzy screen caps. So I miss the quick read and throw away style. I'm not bought on this new style and since most of the articles are console centric they don't hold a lot of interest to me. But the subscription is dirt cheap so I'll probably keep with it.

It's something to read while on the can.

I hate you because I had that one, and now it's driving me crazy.

Santa fell off the roof and killed the kid's father -flattened him. He waited until the next year and cornered Santa. "Holy Christmas! I didn't think anyone saw me."  "I saw you old fart."

"It's amazing how realistic they make toys nowadays.  And to you a good night" RRRAAAATTTAAAATTAAATT (Santa shooting at the kid)
(Kid kills Santa with a poker)  "I did it, Mom, I killed Santa."

Skip to one year later - Spring.  The kid comes home from the mental hospital.  Mom hears something at the door and goes to check.  Final panel- Mom squished under a colored patterned egg.  "THE BUNNY!"

Now I have to go find it - pretty sure it was DC or Epic.

Oh wow. Yeah that's exactly the one I was thinking of. I hadn't thought of that comic in over two decades and no idea why it just popped in to my head the other day.
1257  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Trying to think of a comic I used to have.... on: March 24, 2010, 09:52:05 PM
Had an odd thought pop in to my head about this comic I used to have way back when - thinking mid 70's or so. I'll try and describe as best as I can remember:

I don't believe the comic was mainstream (DC/Marvel) and may have only had a few issues. I'm thinking there was more than a single story in the issue. I think the issue was penned in blue and black ink but the cover may have been colored. The initial story was a Christmas one where a kid discovers Santa on Christmas morning placing gifts under the tree. Santa looks all jolly and what not. The kid *I think* asks for his gift which turns out to be a working machine gun, pistol or some type of gun. The comic goes from jolly to dark as the kid starts shooting at Santa who's first surprised then gets vengeful. There's a big fight between the kid and Santa where I think Santa gets shot a few times and maybe died from injuries.

That's about all I remember. I do recall it was shocking to read that as I had only known Spiderman/Hulk/etc before then and had never seen that level of violence in a comic book.

I was thinking the book was part of the Plop! series but I'm not sure that's the case. By Googling Plop! I see that I had issue #3 but I don't recall if those comics were super violent. I'm pretty sure it wasn't from Heavy Metal as I remember it being just a regular sized comic rather than magazine sized.

Any ideas? I did buy the comic from a drug store but it seems like this one would be too obscure to grace the shelves of most drug stores.

Yeah, the Miley Cyrus mentor thing confused me as well. It seemed a bit awkward for someone who is probably spoon fed music to offer up advice but oh well. Half the mentors they have typically give useless advice/critiques and are just there to pimp whatever they're doing.

That Paige performance was so bad. Like Kara pointed out it looked like she gave up on the competition and just went on stage for the hell of it. Glad the judges didn't try and sugar coat their comments. What sucks is she's shown she has a good voice but certainly not enough to win. Maybe she didn't want to be on the tour.

Some nice moments in this episode that I just ate up. I LOVED Colby putting his game face on at the reward challenge, refusing the chocolate sample, telling Jeff in no uncertain terms the challenge needs to start NOW, getting verbally bitch slapped by Jeff and then sitting out the challenge anyways. Bahahahaha!

Then Russell had a nice moment with Parvity where after showing her the idol he told her that all she needs to do is ride his coat tails, where she informed him "I don't ride coat tails hunny" which Russel replied "you'll ride these."

Along those same lines I was really confused when Russell approached Coach to show him the immunity idol. Coach seemed so in Rob's pants pocket that he would never betray him. But it looks like he is. That really showed how well Russell is at playing the game. He's taking chances and (for right now) having those work out. I couldn't believe Coach bent a knee before Russell.

Anyways the Heroes are boneheads and I can't figure JT siding with Amanda, Ru "slamming heads" pert, and James. I think JT had a better chance with Colby and Tom especially going in to the merge. The Heroes are likely going to be down members in the merge and they'll need strong people to win challenges to outlast the Villains.

There's no one on that team I'm rooting for now.

Probably worth mentioning the Leisure Suit Larry copy protection from the original game. It was an Adult only game so at the start they asked you a bunch of multiple-choice questions only adults would know. There was no book or anything else to check these off of they were just facts adults apparently knew.

I was not an adult at the time the game was released and was determined to play the game. So while I didn't know the answers to most of the questions I had a good memory so just through trial and error I was abel to get the answers to all the questions and play the game. So the copy protection was a educational tool - for kids to learn smut.
1265  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PC GAMERS! LEND ME YOUR CODEWHEELS! on: March 11, 2010, 01:23:43 AM
I have all my copy protection stuff back at my fathers place. I was getting nostalgic the last two times and took some pictures of some of the old game manuals, floppy discs and copy protection schemes. So you're in luck here. Here's some screen caps:

Copy protection wheels for Rocket Ranger (Amiga), NightShift (Amiga), Tunnels of Armegaddon (Amiga), and some other game I'm not sure of. Worked like all copy protection wheels where at some point you would be asked to match images/colors/information and then enter the "code" in the center of the wheel it asked for. If you got it right you could play the game and if not try again - sometimes requiring a restart

Wasteland (C64) had it's own copy protection book called "Paragraphs". It's been forever since I've played the game but I *think* how this worked was you went to the first town and someone asked you a question about a particular paragraph in the book (each one had a number next to it). You had to read the paragraph and enter in the correct answer. I seem to recall in the game if you got it incorrect you could keep playing but had some major penalty.

Here's a page from the book.

Copy protection for the game Elvira (Amiga). This was a typical scheme where you had a book and this red plastic piece you could look at the book through and see the books text. Without it the book was impossible to read from and impossible to make a copy of. Again you were likely asked a question in the game and had to hunt down the answer when given a specific page to look at then type it in to continue.

Alone in the Dark (the original game) took it even further where they provided you with a tiny book and I believe you had to use the red plastic strip (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Here's the inside of the book.

I have no idea what game this was for (anyone?) but it used the same scheme as the code wheels. Each of those cards have various holes in them and when you line the cards up based on whatever the game asked you to do, you would see a card suit and color that you could either choose from or type in to continue in a game.

And a code wheel for Neuromancer (C64) which works like the others.
1266  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Onlive beta on: March 10, 2010, 07:35:52 PM
I think the difference here is that it's $15 a month plus the price you pay to purchase/rent the games. That seems a bit pricey. If it was $15 a month and you get to play whatever until your service ends that would be different.

And what happens with the purchased games if you cancel the service? Do you get a digital copy or are you out until you subscribe again?

The ideal for me would be a 6mo/12mo fee where you get to play whatever they have on the service.
1267  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains on: March 06, 2010, 10:08:54 PM
I think we need to get this out of the way first....Amanda all oiled up was hot!

Russell going for the idol the way he did was not smooth at all. If someone else finds it then he's done for. He needs to find the hidden immunity idol and keep finding them going forward. I hope his gamble pays off but right now it looks disasterous for him. Other than strengthening Parvity and Danielle's alliance with him I'm not sure who else would join his group. It's unclear where Courtney and Jerri stand within that tribe. I don't see Sanda or Tyson siding with him.

I'm with you Rittchard with how to feel about Cirie going home. It was the best possible thing to happen for the tribe at that point. Cirie was a bigger threat than Candice and Cirie doesn't help much in challenges. But I'm sad to see her go since she is so entertaining. It will be interesting to see how JT manages to stay in the game after that vote.

Pretty sure it was Pink Floyd: The Wall. I seem to recall it was like $40 too as it was 2 CDs and this was back when cassette players were in high use and records starting to go on their way out.

Or it could have been one of The Cure albums "Head on the Door" or "Standing on a Beach/Staring at the Sea: The Singles". I do recall the later album was pretty neat as the record, cassette and CD had 1 song that didn't appear on the others. At least back in 86' I thought that was pretty neat.

Just got done watching the last 3 episodes and agree the series has improved. But not by much. I can't say I'm invested in any of the characters but I did like both "The Pit" and "Shadow Games" storylines - plus that final battle against Occulus (or whatever the giants name was) was pretty damn decent. I'll still keep watching but its one of those series where you know you should stop watching cause its not that good but just can't - like Heroes.

Gotta hand it to Randy for even trying. You could tell as the matches went on James was getting more pumped. That would have given me second thoughts of getting in there with him. But I did laugh as Randy delivered a hard blow straight to James' face which didn't even stun him.

James doesn't have a chance of winning this so I'm fine with his antics.

I really hope Russel hides Boston Rob's cap. It would be fun to watch Rob's reaction. And if he can somehow pin it on Coach that would be a nice bonus.

Definitely plenty of choices to cleave out for the girls. Only two girls stand out to me (Crystal & Lilly) and only four others seemed worth listening to (Didi, Katie, Soibhan and Michelle). Even for those four none were that great.

Oh well that's what the getting rid of 2 at a time is for in these early stages.

I hate to admit that I don't hate Ellen as much as I thought I would but there's still no need for a 4th judge when they're just going to mimic the others.

I couldn't quite fathom why they were choosing between Amanda and Stephanie to vote out. Both Stephanie and Amanda seem pretty strong and they need all the strong players at the beginning. Rupert seemed like the logical next choice as he isn't adding anything to the tribes with his broken toes and complaining - I used to like Rupert too. I feel bad for Stephanie leaving so early but I didn't think she had a chance at winning as she's too outspoken. Now it sounds like Cobly or Tom will be on the chopping block next if they lose again.

I'm surprised Parvity didn't have a big old bruise on her face after that hit in the challenge. Was waiting for them to show something.

And was it me or did I see Courtney and Randy...hugging??? Guess their bad blood isn't THAT bad.

Russell going out to kill the chicken to steal Robs thunder was a bad move. Would have been better if he just let Rob have his day, wait for people to complain about food, then be the hero by bringing back a chicken.

Any rumors on if they are going to have introduce a hidden immunity idol or exile island this season? Seems like they are doing it Season 1 old school - which I'm fine with too.

What WAR did better than any game was bridge the gap between PvE and PvP.  I bet there were a lot of people who never played PvP going into RvR pools and thinking, "hey, this PvP stuff isn't as bad as I imagined".

That's how I felt. I've PvPed before but never really cared for it. WAR implemented it so well that after leveling my first character I spent the majority of my time leveling up my other characters in the RvR and having a blast doing it.

I actually like Courtney as she makes no qualms about not caring that she's there, winning challenges, or what others think about her. She's basically the anti-Survivor contestant.

So if anyone is smart they'll take her to the end. She won't win a challenge against them, will put her foot in her mouth and when asked what she would do with the million it would probably be something selfish. That's practically an instant win.

These are fun mindless shooter games. Basically Doom from a top-down view. I enjoyed the first one a lot more than the second but played them both through (about 5-10 hours to complete each one).

I think you're thinking of Noctropolis. I had this one but recall it wasn't that fun to play so never got too far in it:

I'm still rooting for Russel to win this one. He has set up a clear goal to win this not just for the money but to see if he can outplay the former contestants. So far no one else, that they've shown, has indicated they have a clear desire to best everyone else.  Amanda was my person to root for on the Heroes team but she really didn't seem all there yet so hard to back her at this point. I forgot how much I liked Stephanie's game (and looks) but I don't think she's going to last long as she's too outspoken and I get the sense the sneaky players and coattail riders will be the ones to make it near the end.

I still don't know who Danniel is.

And is it me but do the women have like 20 pairs of clothes each? And WTF Tyson with the speedos?
