Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / [iOS] Guardian Cross

Square Enix just released a new card game called Guardian Cross for both the iPhone and iPad. I only did a little of the tutorial, has a pokemon catch-em-all type of thing to "catch" new cards. You can also upgrade cards with guardian points ( terms may not be 100% accurate ). Oh, and they have a gimmic where if you get friends to enter your friend code you and your friend will get gifts ( cards or guardian points or something ). So, if you want to enter my friend code it is HI36961

Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Steam Deals Thread: SUMMER SALE!

looks like today is going to be a DLC day for me:
Crusader Kings 2: Sword of Islam and Songs of the Caliph Shogun 2: Rise of the Samurai
I'm eying the Avernum games, they're current $5.99 for 4-6 and I doubt it'll go much lower, plus the Kohan Warchest is $4.99.
decided to hold off on Kohan, I'm not sure how well it's held up plus it'll surely go on sale again. Plus you have until the end of the sale, perhaps it will even be a daily and go cheaper

Started messing around with this over the weekend and after a rocky start (my first two battles saw me losing due to drawing a ton of high-cost creatures but no mana) I'm really starting to enjoy it. This is my first time with MtG in any format, and I'm surprised at how much fun it is. Will likely have some questions as I try to figure it all out...glad there's a few of you around here who actually know what the hell they're doing.
Don't be afraid to mulligan too. First one is free, and even going down to 6 cards isn't necessarily bad, especially if you go second ( when you go first you don't draw a card ). Try not to keep a 1 or 2 land hand ( though some decks can do fine with 2, mostly not though ). Likewise, never keep an all land hand, I also wouldn't keep a 6 land hand because then you are mostly hoping for top decks ( drawing something useful ). Again, there are exceptions to the rule, but you will find your games go better if you start off with 3 or 4 lands in hand edit: if you have this on your iPad, feel free to add me to your gamecenter - I'm Cragmyre. If you have this on steam, I'm Cragmyre there too. Yes - I double dipped

I agree, I don't know why the tutorial has you play a land on the second main phase. Strategically the only case I could think of is if you want to bluff your opponent into thinking that you didn't draw anything. Or, another possible case is if your creature has power/toughness equal to the number of cards in your hand. Then you'd want to keep the hand as large as possible, especially before combat. A creature, on the other hand, should always be played second main phase unless it will help you in combat. The strategy behind that is, your opponent may think you are attacking with your only guy and won't have a blocker for the next turn, so may not block you this turn thinking he/she will be able to attack unimpeded next turn. Also, the tutorial says you should play a land every turn, and for the most part I agree with that, but there are times where you just don't need any more land, so keeping a card in hand can be used to bluff your opponent ( assuming you are playing a real person and not the AI ) edit: maybe we should move this to the thread for Magic 2013?

You can try it for free But DotP is a really great way to learn the game. Unfortunately I've played it before, but in my biased opinion, I feel it is friendly to new players. I got one of my friends interested in it, so once he gets back from vacation, I'll find out how friendly it truly is ( or not )

So is this game mainly about the PvP? A friend and I enjoy a little bit of group duo work, is this game good for that? I know the original was. How about soloing? Is the open world stuff similar to Rift where you can join a group working on a world event?
Basically if I were to play this, I'd either be soloing, or duoing with a friend. I don't tend to do PuGs. Would this game fit, or is there not enough content for my style of play?

If you like the Fighting Fantasy books, I feel the Gamebook Adventures by Tin Man Games are even better. At the moment book #5 - Catacombs of the Undercity is on sale for .99 Interesting. Looks like there are eight in all and #8 is free right now, with the rest clocking in at $4.99 other than #5... Only the first chapter of #8 is free, you have to do an IAP to get the whole book ( which is 3.99 at the moment ). I have all the books in my AppShopper wish list so I can see when they drop in price. They sneak a .99 sale in every so often on only a single book, and the sale seems to last only a day or two.

Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / WTB EA SPORTS Active 2 disc for 360?
|
on: April 02, 2012, 02:46:03 PM

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone had the disc for "EA SPORTS Active 2" on the 360? Mine was damaged, and is now lost, and I'd really like to start getting back into it. I have everything else, just not the most important part.
If you have it; I'd be interested in taking it off your hands assuming you no longer have a need for it.
Thanks!

Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / [iOS] Majesty

I loved the original Majesty, and I even enjoy Majesty 2, so when I got my iPad, I had to get this. It feels more like the original though, and I'm glad about that. I tend to play slowly, meaning I'll play one mission then quit for a bit, though sometimes I like to replay a mission and just watch what happens. I just finished the 3rd mission and was able to get Clerics. My goodness what huge help they were. I'm not even bothering with the Rangers because I find the Warriors and Clerics will just go explore on their own, assuming they don't need to protect the castle and surrounding buildings. The 3rd mission had plenty of money, and the marketplace did help. I had, by the end of the mission, 6 warriors, 6 paladins, 4 clerics, and 4 wizards - and for once my wizards stayed alive I've been playing on the middle difficulty and though I've lost and had to rethink my strategies, I'm having fun with it. I love to just watch what happens I know this game is old news to most, but for those that are/did play it, how did you feel the game was?

The Majesty level with the goblins? I ended up just making two warrior guilds and upgrading my blacksmith to as high as the level would let me. Rangers and Wizards were too squishy for that level it seemed, though the wizard tower was a good way to see into the unexplored areas because of the spell. Though the Warriors had no problem exploring, but they did prefer attack flags. The reason I had two warrior guilds is because with only 4 warriors, they would all come back to defend the castle or their home, where as with 8, some would still be available to take out the goblin huts and towns. Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Thought you had to go the Wizard route, as it mentions them in the mission briefing. I always find myself seriously struggling for money...need to rethink my approach. I also made a couple of guard towers to help protect my warrior guilds and my blacksmith. I sort of had warrior guild, guard tower, blacksmith, guard tower, warrior guild I tried a marketplace at first, but trolls kept on coming and attacking it, so I decided for this level to go without healing potions. As for the RPG, I have no clue. I haven't found any rpgs that have struck my fancy just yet. Give either Rimelands or Pocket RPG a shot. Both are fantastic.
Are they turn based RPGs? I don't really want action rpg - I have my xbox for those
