Sorry, but Mira is anorexic as hell. Elbows too pointy?  Try everything too pointy! If she ate a couple sandwiches she might be hot.
482  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTORO Volume 2: Mines of Moria (paid, full-box expansion) on: January 27, 2009, 08:32:33 PM
Another week and still going strong.  The more I play, the more I appreciate the differences in userbases.  My playing style in MMOs has always been very much solo; I might join an instance group from time to time, but even then it was when I specifically knew someone in the group (completely random PUGs were never something I wanted to do).

I have now grouped countless times with random people and have yet to meet a single asshat.  Everyone is very courteous and enjoyable to play with and even OOC chat is generally fine (I can only think of maybe two times when people were being jagoffs on OOC chat).  I've even managed to make some in-game friends, joined a great kinship (guild) and am having a fantastic time.  My playtime now seems to be 50/50 between solo and group questing.

The story/lore is also still going very strong.  I've never played an MMO with such a strong and cohesive story element between zones.  Every quest from the large multi-step chains to the smallest fetch/fed-ex quest fits into the larger story flawlessly.

Currently my champion is up to level 29, questing in North Downs, have the money for my 35 mount in the bank and am saving for one of the nicer houses.

The wife and I spent most of the time making fun of Mira Sorvino's acting (here's a new drinking game: do a shot every time she flips her hair).  The rather rediculous opening put us on alert and it didn't really do much to improve over time. I suppose we'll finish it as we did have a good time making fun of it, but I'm not expecting to change my mind that it's basically crap.
484  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: DC Universe..a mission walkthrough on: January 21, 2009, 10:35:57 PM
I don't know... it just doesn't look that impressive to me, but I couldn't really say why. Maybe it's just too busy and doesn't look like it will work well for groups.

Can someone explain the miniature piano one above?  Neither I or my friend could figure it out.  Is it reliant on a past strip or something?

Well, I've been playing for a little over a week now and have to say I'm completely in love with this game!! The storyline and the locations are what really hit this one home for me; everything is exactly where it should be geographically and the look is just perfect.  I played a few different characters and settled on a level 18 Champion on the roleplaying server.  I'm not sure how many characters I will level up, but I'm going to at least take this one up to 60 and enjoy the ride.  I find myself not much caring about levels right now... I'm just enjoying doing all the quests and deeds that are available.

Of note, I've never played an MMO with a more mature playerbase than this one.  Never a problem finding help with quests or people being asses.  It's a nice change.

I tried to watch that movie again recently and discovered that it sucked.  What happened??

Well I guess this is a really hard one.

491  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTORO Volume 2: Mines of Moria (paid, full-box expansion) on: January 12, 2009, 07:30:29 PM
I had played LOTRO when it first came out and ended up not playing after a week or so.  It just wasn't clicking with me at the time.  This weekend however, I signed up again and started playing.  Having an absolute BLAST this time around!  Maybe it's changes in the game, maybe I picked a better character type (lvl 13 Champion) but it is definitely resonating with me now.  The player base also seems much nicer.  Look up Alaros on Elendilmir.

495  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: My girlfriend snores... on: January 07, 2009, 05:35:21 PM
I'm the same as Teggy.  On my back I sometimes wake myself up I snore so bad.  On my side nothing.  Thankfully, I always slept on my side anyway, so on the rare occations where I end up on my back, the wife just kicks me and tells me to roll over.
496  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How did you choose your Gamertag or Forum name? on: December 30, 2008, 08:54:43 PM
I've had this name since I've been on the Internet.  It's the last name of Thomas Covenant from the Chronicles books.  Back in the GG days there was another person with the name ThomasCovenant; that wasn't me.

Thanks to a heavy snow storm this weekend, I got some serious gaming time in and finished Assasin's Creed, as well as starting and completing Crackdown.  Crackdown was pretty fun, but pretty short too.  I found once I got my athletic ability up to a decent level, you can easily skip to the end of all the generals.

499  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Drinking habits and me on: December 18, 2008, 06:28:02 PM
Well, think of it this way.  You say that having a hangover once a week is negatively impacting your life.  So just stop drinking so much that day.  Catch a good buzz on and stop there, or pace yourself differently.  If you honestly don't have enough control over your behavior to be able to do that, then you probably need to get help.  Unless the negative impacts of the hangover really aren't that big a deal.  If they aren't then who cares?

501  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: Is it Unreasonable to Fear for Obama's Safety? on: December 17, 2008, 02:39:47 PM
During the election, my wife was walking outside to get the mail and someone actually slowed the car, rolled down the window and yelled the N word out at her.  This is something that had never happened to her before, and we are both old enough to have lived through times where odd/angry looks were fairly common (we are an interracial couple who have known eachother for a good 15 years or so).  These days, we get more comments on how nice we look together rather than anger.

She didn't really seem to mind it (she's not much the type to let some idiot get under her skin), as she chalks it up to people being ignorant, but she had something very interesting to say about why it happened.  She said that with the election going on, people's deep seeded fears and prejudices were more likely to bubble to the surface.  Whether we see it or not, racism is still out there quite a bit; people just hide it better as it's not socially acceptable anymore. When people start to freak out that we might get a black president, they will lose their minds so to speak and say things they normally wouldn't. I was talking politics with my brother at the time (a staunch republican) and he even crossed the line with me and I nearly hung up on him.

Now that the election is over, it's a question of whether people will bury those feelings again or not.  I think they will, as I honestly think as a whole this country is getting much better with each passing generation and nothing is going to stop that.  Some might fight it and there is still a ways to go, but it's a losing battle. This is certainly an interesting time in our lives.

Well, thanks to becoming newly married, bought a house, and bough two new/used cars within the last few months, I find myself on a much tighter budget than I am used to.  One effect has been on my gaming habit.  I've always been very ADD when it comes to games, hopping to whatever happens to interest me that week/day.  It also promotes a HUGE backlog.  Thanks to not having as much money to throw around towards games lately, I have actually gone back and started finishing some stuff in my collection.  When I finish a few titles, I sell them to GameStop and pick up 2 or 3 used titles. I have to say, I'm getting much more enjoyment out of games than i have felt in a very long time.  I'm enjoying the stories and doing more in each title, trying to really get my money's worth.

What I've finished lately:
1) Tomb Raider: Legend
2) Tomb Raider: Anniversary
3) Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
4) Fallout 3 (main storyline, going to go back and do more side-quests sometime)

Currently Playing:
Assassin's Creed

Next Up:
Crackdown or Rainbow Six: Vegas 2

So, in the spirit of my new found dicipline, what have you all finished up lately and what are your own gaming ADD stories?
504  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: New DVD/BD releases 12/9: Why so serious? on: December 11, 2008, 03:43:26 PM
Hey guys my Bluray disc has a digital copy and there's a single code inside...does this mean I can only download it to my computer once and then the disc is no good?

I let my buddy download the digital copy.  He put it on his laptop, then told me the next day he had no problem copying it to his desktop and IPod.  Not sure if you can actually download again, but copying looks to work.
505  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Down with the flu - home remedies anyone? on: December 11, 2008, 03:40:12 PM
Gargling salt or lemon water will help a sore throat.  Steam (hot shower) will clear congestion. Fever... just rest and maybe pop a couple aspirin; basically wait it out.
506  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Left 4 Dead Impressions on: November 25, 2008, 02:23:35 PM
Here's a question that is probably pretty dumb:

Does Left 4 Dead require a Gold xbox live account in order to play multiplayer or is it a special case?

509  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Want/Have a Hackzored Wii? Don't patch anytime soon. on: November 19, 2008, 02:22:31 PM
The homebrew community (the non-pirating kind) has released quite a few seemingly good games. I know there's a port of Quake 1 on it, and I hear really good things about how Wiimote control (yes, you point at the screen like in Metroid Prime 3) makes the game kick all kinds of ass (even with how old it is).

Homebrew is not just pirating games. It's where people with a lot of time on their hands can make games for consoles.

Wait... releasing a version of licensed software for free on another console is not pirating?  I mean, I'm no saint and would probably do it in a heartbeat, but let's not fool ourselves about what this is.
510  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Tomb Raider: Underworld on: November 19, 2008, 02:18:29 PM
So has anyone picked this up yet?  I'm a huge Tomb Raider fan from way back and since Legend came out have actually been excited about new releases in the series.  From the demo, Underworld is looking like it has potential and I have some store credit burning a hole in my pocket so I might pitck this up tonight.  Anyone else have this that can offer some impressions?  I havn't found any reviews yet and would feel better about my purchase knowing ahead of time that it doesn't suck.
511  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Do you prefer stategy or luck? on: November 06, 2008, 07:47:58 PM
Since most modern games are just strings of "scenarios", adding a luck element to strategy can keep it fresh on replays.  Pure luck is no good as nothing you do will matter or give you any sense of accomplishment, but pure strategy has the side effect of being boring once you figure out the right way to do something.
512  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Pick Two on: November 06, 2008, 07:20:54 PM
Well, I was wavering on my second title so I just ended up getting Fallout 3.  I will grab something else later used most likely.  From the sounds of it FO3 will keep me plenty busy for awhile anyway
513  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Pick Two on: November 06, 2008, 05:00:08 PM
So I'm heading out today to pick up some new 360 titles.  I think I have my choices down, but I'm interested in what you all would do and why.  Your mission if you choose to accept it; pick two titles from the following list and explain why. Feel free to add other titles as well, but keep it to newer releases.  I already have most of the catelog titles that I am interested in.

Fallout 3
Dead Space
Far Cry 2
Fable 2
Gears of War 2 (not out yet I know, but close enough to be considered)

My choices right now are leaning towards Fallout 3 and Dead Space.

Me and the wife liked it plenty fine. Don't expect Raider's or anything, but it's still fun.
