1361  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Blue Screen of Death? on: October 15, 2004, 01:37:35 PM
I still think it could be a heat-related issue.  I had a heat-related problem a few years ago with almost the same symptoms; the inevitable BSOD seemed to pick a random process from my task manager, so if you're running the firewall all the time, maybe it's just picking that to crash on for some reason, especialy if it's taking up a lot of CPU cycles.

The easy test for this is to run something that takes a LOT of CPU cycles and see if it crashes faster.  When I had heat issues my system would normally run for about an hour, but then would crash within two minutes of running some heavy compiling in C++.

Congrats, Malachai.  I'll second the 'Jersey Girl' recommendation; sure, if you wanted a romantic comedy, that's not it.  But for a good father-daughter flick, it's about all I can think of, and pretty well-done at that.

Hijacking a thread is child's play.  Try hijacking an entire forum.

Well, I will, when the new GTA comes out.  Weren't you listening?   [/b]

Also, since we have a Road to Gold section now, shouldn't we move this on over there?
1365  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Matrix Online Beta on: October 12, 2004, 11:59:13 PM
I subscribe, but the beta signup form has been borked for me all evening.
1366  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I want the Nintendo DS to fail on: October 12, 2004, 09:20:17 PM
I recall seeing a magazine scan in Evil Avatar that addressed the price issues on the PSP a while back; there was a $350 package, but that included a 256MB memory stick, extra software, and a GPS reciever (go figure), plus all the little neat addons you would expect with a high-end package deal.

There was an intro price that was significantly easier on the wallet, though I forget what it was.
1367  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / CG Xbox Live Gamertag List on: October 12, 2004, 04:48:14 PM
GamerTag is KeySJU; it's actually shared between an entire dorm, so if you add me to your friends list, you should be able to get a decent game most, if not all, of the time.

Edit:  No longer shared.  There were issues with that setup, so it's back to me and me alone.

Games list:
Midnight Club II
Full Spectrum Warrior
MtG: Battlegrounds
Burnout 3
1368  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / CG Music Thread - What are you listening to? on: October 12, 2004, 02:06:29 PM
The Rome: Total War soundtrack that came with my new copy of the game.
1369  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Proposition--A New York wake for GoneGold on: October 12, 2004, 05:59:33 AM
I'm in.  Let's hold it in Flushing so I don't have to walk far.

Also, any NYC CGers interested in some free improv tickets?  I perform at the NY Comedy Club every other Saturday as part of a small improv group.
1370  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ESPN - NHL 2k5 - Impressions - Let's Here 'Em on: October 12, 2004, 03:54:54 AM
Wow, that Pro thing is a big help, I hadn't seen that before.

Just got XBox Live working in my dorm, in case anyone has a few friends and is interested in some 4-on-4 (NHL2K5 allows multiple players per Box on Live, right?)
1371  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Rome: Total War on: October 12, 2004, 03:52:06 AM
I liked Shogun.  I really liked Medieval.  I just picked up Rome tonight, with the full and total intention of loving it... after a few quick battles and the tutorial, I'm thinking this is going to be an easy, easy game to love.

In, as soon as I check the server when you guys are on.  Anyone here use XFire?  Might help with 'ships-passing-in-night' syndrome.

Hey All

Another idea that Ron and I had kicked around a while back was to add some stuff into our system to allow people to build an online listing of their game collections here on our site. From there it would be a simple matter of also allowing you to mark certain games that you like to play online (i.e. make it possible for you to find all other CG'ers that you could invite to play a round of CS:Source or Halo2.) Even take it a step further and let you mark titles that you want to offer up for trade.

Do this, and you'd have me here for good (not that I won't be anyway, but damn, that's a good suggestion).  Also, thanks again to you CG guys who kind of got blindsided by the GG swarm; you've been nothing less than outstanding in accomodating us.  I'd never ask you guys to do as much as you've done already on your own.
