1241  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / "Numbers stations" - link to "Lost"? on: November 15, 2004, 07:18:04 PM
Man, I keep forgetting I can get NPR over the net as well, especially with me not owning a radio.
1242  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HL2: Steam vs Retail on: November 15, 2004, 06:59:32 PM
Also, it would be difficult to sell unless you have a buyer who trusts you quite a bit.  Because the unlocking is key-based, not CD-based, you could easily sell off the CDs to some poor clueless soul without the username and password of the Steam account that it was registered to.  I know I wouldn't trust someone to sell me a copy of HL2 that had been unsealed already.
1243  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 Graphics Glitches? on: November 15, 2004, 02:07:18 AM
Common problem, no solution, no solution planned for the future.
1244  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / OFFICIAL HALO2 CLAN NAME POLL on: November 13, 2004, 05:58:09 PM
I like Knightshade(s) as a backup.  It's not totally dumb or official-sounding, and not really likely to be taken.

Of course, I pity the poor fool who tries to restart THE CURSED HALO 2 POLL OF DEATH!
1245  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / No Movie for you! on: November 12, 2004, 11:20:40 PM
The FCC can't tell them what they can or can't air; that would be censorship.  They can only impose such hefty fines that it's not economically viable to air much of anything.
1246  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 12, 2004, 08:21:40 PM
Let's wait for KD.  He said his XBox would be up and running by today at the latest, so we'll at least give him a shot to give us the go-ahead to make an official unofficial temporary clan.

Good god, someone just start the damn clan.

Well, I was going to, but KD specifically said to hold off and let him do it.
1248  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 12, 2004, 07:42:57 PM
It's Friday night... any word on if we'll have something up and running tonight?
1249  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 - It's ON! (impressions thread) on: November 12, 2004, 06:03:15 AM
Yeah, I know the one you're talking about.  I got curious too, it offered to sign me off Live because co-op is only playable by split-screen or whatever.
1250  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Zax's UT2k4 Srvr - Fill server Ngt Fri 4/8! Torrent DVD! on: November 12, 2004, 05:53:22 AM
I'm Halo 2'd myself for tomorrow night.  Look forward to jumping back in next week, though.
1251  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Good web hosting? on: November 12, 2004, 05:52:45 AM
It's a freaking big page with what looks like lots of CSS and such, but it loads and renders fine and fast on Firefox 1.0.  No slowdown here, and even the main page renders in under a second (at 12:52 AM here, I'll try again tomorrow prime-time).  Try going to the command line and running 'tracert undiscussion.com' and see if it's a Comcast server or something in between slowing you down.
1252  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 breaks all sorts of records... on: November 12, 2004, 05:49:47 AM
If MA2 just implements the virtual couch and some robust playlist modes like Halo 2 with the same core gameplay, it'll already be pretty impressive.  I'm coming to the conclusion that 50% of the enjoyability of Halo 2 on Live is the seamless integration of the party system, the matchmaking, and the well-thought out Friends interface.  If every online game could be like that, it would be wonderful.
1253  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 - It's ON! (impressions thread) on: November 12, 2004, 05:48:08 AM
I think when you try that it tells you that you can only do it on the same box.  I'm 99% sure that online co-op was dropped.
1254  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Today is Veteran's Day - thanks dbt & others! on: November 12, 2004, 02:44:12 AM

Nope.  When they say uncut, they mean it, F-bombs and otherwise.

Well I take back a few of the harsher things I said about Halo 2.  I still think the single player is a big let down and that they dropped the ball on it, but I got to play some 2v2 on split screen last night, and man... it's really apparent they spent a lot of time getting the multiplayer just right.

We had some really great games doing nothing more than simple deathmatch.  If I ever decide to get XBLive I'll have to check out the online play as well, but as far as lan play goes I'm sold.

s

I would go so far as to say this game justifies XBLive in and of itself.  I've played some split-screen matches too, in teh dorm; 2v2 is fun, especially on the smaller maps, but you haven't played until you've played some 4v4 or more CTF.  When you have a fully loaded Warthog, two Ghosts, and a Banshee all rolling out on the offensive at once, it gets fairly epic fairly quickly.
1257  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 - It's ON! (impressions thread) on: November 11, 2004, 08:06:33 PM
For the people reporting graphical hiccups, what model XBox do you have?  Our dorm has one from original release, and mine is much more recent; a lot of the stutters that are noticable on the older one aren't on the new one.  I don't know if it's just the older DVD drives or what, but the pop-in and stutter don't feel as bad on the newer XBox.

I'd like to run it to keep it official if we can.  My Xbox died on me which is why this isn't already done before you guys even GOT your copies.  What bad timing.  As we speak, my staff is taunting me because I can't play...I can feel the love, its sticking sharply in my back!  I should be back on my feet today or tomorrow at the latest.

Sure thing.  With no word, I wanted to get it on its feet, but since you're going to be up and running that soon, I'll leave it to you.
1259  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 11, 2004, 07:35:59 AM
If nobody objects, I'm going to put up 'GoldRush' at around 6 tonight and start sending out invites.
1260  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 - It's ON! (impressions thread) on: November 11, 2004, 05:44:19 AM
After playing more of the multiplayer, it gets a hearty MP GOTY from me.  Just freaking amazing.
1261  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Anybody for Halo2? on: November 11, 2004, 05:36:34 AM
That was the best CTF match EVAR.  DarkEl, I hate you and your mad Banshee-cramming skills.

Crazy 88s is taken.  Crazy 88 killers isn't.

I still like GoldRush, though.  Not taken, and full of Goldish goodness.
1263  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 11, 2004, 05:18:50 AM
Oh ehm EFF gee.  Just played an amazing game of CTF with DarkEl, TML, and the rest of the gang.  We NEED a clan, guys.  This is just too cool.
1264  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 11, 2004, 04:14:21 AM
I like GoldRush.
1265  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 10, 2004, 11:24:50 PM
Just toss some stuff off the top of your head, and let's pick a favorite.  I dunno... Brute Squad wouldn't probably be in the best taste anymore, and Wanderers are pretty MMORPG-ful.  There's got to be something cool-sounding and CG related.  The Knightshades, perhaps?
1266  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 10, 2004, 06:39:08 PM
Well, you can only be a member of one clan... as much as I'd like to start one and get into the game now, I think it's better if we make an 'official' decision.  I want to play in whatever Console Gold clan we come up with, but I don't want to join one now and then find that half of my friends have jumped ship to play another clan  if/when Ron starts one up later.  Stick together, team!

But that's just me.  Any other opinions?  Does anyone else want to start up the Wanderers?
1267  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What's Wrong With You People??!?? on: November 09, 2004, 05:20:19 PM
I like to jump in offline and learn one or two maps and the controller setups before I go online, but that's it.  I'm not practicing headshots or anything, just where to go and what to do when I get there.
1268  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 09, 2004, 05:18:34 PM
What are we going to be named?  I know the old GG MMORPGers have 'The Wanderers', and it would be cool to have something with a little more zip than 'Console Gold' as the name.

Also, Gamertag is KeySJU, if someone gets around to creating and adding some names in.

1270  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 - It's ON! (impressions thread) on: November 09, 2004, 03:02:26 PM
I guess I'm just lucky... the EB down the way had a few hundred show up, but the Gamestop right by the subway entrance, where I preordered, only had about 40, and I wes 8th in line.  Got my ass kicked in the tourney, and was out of the store by 12:15.
1271  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 09, 2004, 02:35:02 PM

1272  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 - It's ON! (impressions thread) on: November 09, 2004, 02:32:18 PM
Got it.  I agree that there are definitely LOD issues that take away from the cutscenes a little, but when I'm playing I don't notice them at all.  Multiplayer is A+ brilliant.   KeySJU on Live, look me up.
1273  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 - It's ON! (impressions thread) on: November 08, 2004, 10:00:11 PM
Yeah, look me up for live, too.  Gamertag is KeySJU.  Take a look at the XBox tags list in the MP forum if you haven't already.

And who ever thought up toon for character?  What an odd name.

I think that one might have old MUD or MUCK heritage, too.

In at midnight, and glad to be.  Preordered it this weekend at Gamestop.  Depending on roommate, TV, and Ethernet situations, might be on Live as early as 1:30.

*sigh*

Somehow I don't see the bunch around here sticking together enough for this.
The second I can create a clan I will be doing so and posting it here kids.  I should have the game before any of you so I should trump the whole 'everybody has a clan so we are all scattered' thing too. smile

You're the best.  Post here and tell us how to join when it's up?

Anyone have a copy of the .exe that they could email me? It would suck if, after I can't play any SOE game and had a flawless time with the WoW stress tests, I couldn't play because of a stupid freaking patch.

I don't know much bout this kinda stuff, but are you sure that's all it would take to get you into the patched game?  The patch is 19mb, the exe is 4mb.

I don't know.  The EXE was the only thing the torrent downloader was showing.  If I need more stuff, by all means, tell me where I can get it.

Edit:  Sorry, bit of confusion.  The Blizzard Downloader downloads an EXE: WoW-number-to-number-patch.EXE.  That's the 19.4 meg one I need.
1278  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / HALO 2 CLAN on: November 08, 2004, 01:10:26 AM
In.  In.  IN.

IN!  IN, damn you, IN!

Sorry, midnight tomorrow can't come soon enough.

Did I mention... in?

Anyway, I think a CG clan is a great idea.  Enough of the old GGers are around, and they're always great to play with (at least in UT), and the existing base of CG people is probably pretty good.  I don't think it would be competitive, but it would be great with the alleged Virtual Couch thing to just be able to jump into a running GG/CG game at any time.
1279  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / xbox to computer monitor? on: November 08, 2004, 12:52:32 AM
I was actually trying to get an S-Video cable for the XBox earlier today, but apparently in Queens it's well-nigh impossible.  EB was sold out, I didn't feel like standing in line for 10 more minutes at GameStop listening to some 8-year old cursing out his Spanish-speaking mother in English for getting him a Gamecube game instead of PS2, and in Best Buy they were completly unhelpful finding anything but the advanced A/V pack, which includes more stuff than I want and that I don't want to pay extra for.  Any recommendations on a reasonably-priced cable that I can walk into a place, ask for directly, pick up, and leave?
1280  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / WoW Patch Now!!! on: November 08, 2004, 12:42:53 AM
Um, this sucks.  BitTorrent is blocked at my university...  that means I can't download the patch, and thus, I can't play until I find an HTTP mirror?  The Blizzard readmes mention that their downloader tries an 'alternative download method', but I see no proof that it's doing anything besides failing.  Bastages.

Anyone have a copy of the .exe that they could email me?  It would suck if, after I can't play any SOE game and had a flawless time with the WoW stress tests, I couldn't play because of a stupid freaking patch.
