81  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I don`t agree with this at all, do you? on: April 03, 2005, 06:33:00 PM
Quote from: "JayG"
I think that the DS has great potential, but since It's Nintendo I doubt that it will live up to it. It could be amazing for RPGs and Strategy games. There are so many games I would love to have on a handheld, and the touch screen gives mouse control to a console. I have both the DS and the PSP, and my wife adores the DS. She finds a lot of console games have too many buttons, and that the touchscreen is perfect for her. Yet we have had the DS for 4 months and I've yet to find a game that interests me. The DS will be my last Nintendo console as they really haven't got a clue.

For the record AOE has been anounced for teh DS, as well as some other strategy games.
82  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The Near Perfect Handheld... on: April 03, 2005, 05:17:13 PM
Well, I love  the PSP. It is so much fun to play, and I dont feel like im playing a handheld when im playing it. However, there are some nagging probelms that really irritate me. Things I think sony whould have fixed or thought about before launching it. Here are my top 7 problems:

1. Battery indicator. Ok, we all know the PSP has a short battery life, but thats not even my complaint. I can deal with the short life, but why doesnt it let me know it is about to die? Why cant the indicatore turn red the way it does on the GBA and the DS. How did Sony not realize people would want this? I get irritated everytime it shuts off without warning. Just goes dead. Very frustrating.

2. Dead pixel issue. Enough said.

3. Game cases making the opening on the disc facing the removel side for most people. I have to remeber to remove it from the other side so I dont get my finger prints all over it. Easily fixable too, all they would have to do is change the cases. Not a big deal at all, but this post is about everything irritating me with it!

4. The battery doesnt charge while you are playing a game if it is plugged in. I was playing untold legends and I encountered problem number 1. So I plugged it in and continued playing (after restarting it). A few hours later (while still playing) I wanted to go play somewhere else, I unplugged it and walked away, only to have it die in less then 30 seconds. So frustrating.

5. Lack of a second anaolg stick. I love a good FPS game, and that is a little less possible without a second analog stick. I know it will be harder to enjoy at least.

6. Placement of the analog stick. I think it needs to be switched with teh d pad. My thumb gets very sore from the way I have to hold it to use the analog stick. I love the way the anaolg stick feels while playing, but its somewhat akward to use it. My hand cramped up yesterday while playing it   .

7. Lack of a self protecting design. I fixed it with only $10 by purchasing a little cover case for it. I dont think this is a major concern, but I think nintendo finally got it right, and sony hasnt seemed to learn fromt eh master about some of these issues yet.

Now, sinc this is my favorite handheld so far, I also want to point out the top 7 things for me with the system.

1. Games. Games, games games games. I have four games already, and at one time or another all of them have been called my favorite. Sony did the launch of games right. Lots avaliable, and lots of different varieties. While it is a bit heavy on the sports side, there are enough other games to help even this out.

2. Beautifull screen. Enough said, unless poblem number 2 is encountered.

3. Sleek design. Im not ashamed to pull it out in public. Its nifty, and everyone who has seen mine is impressed, and almsot all have said "I want that."

4. Built in wireless. Thank you sony, is all I can say.  Thank you thank you thank you.

5. Memory cards and USB compatability. While it sint the best MP3 player, it is funtcional, and the ability to put movies on it is great.

6. Analog stick. Yes! While it has some problems, it is a huge step up! I hope all handhelds in the future have analog sticks.

7. Sleep mode. A great feature, and it makes it much mroe compatible as a handheld.

Im really loving this little system. I was worried at first, but it has eased most of my fears. For one thing, the button issue seems to be a non issue. No problems there at all. The price was a problem at first, but the games are there, so once again, not a problem. Too bad sony didnt fix my first seven problems, this system would be perfect  frown .
83  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Untold Legends a bust? on: April 03, 2005, 04:44:27 PM
Untold legends is my favorite launch game now. I have twisted metal, wipeout pure, and world tour soccer (as well as untold legends).

Untold legends is a ton of fun. Its a lot like Baulder's gate on the xbox. It has a ton of depth to is, especially for a handheld. Of all the games you can get for the PSP you will be able to sink a lot mroe time into it. Wipeout is a pretty game, but you will get broed rather quickly. Its soemwhat repetative, although like I said, it is a great game.

Untold legends is probably the most fun on multiplayer. It is so much fun to play with a friend or two. I thought it would be somewhat mediocre because of the lack of talk about it here, and the reviews, but it really has impressed me. It has more depth then any of the games I have played yet for the PSP.
84  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Post your "collectable" console games! on: April 03, 2005, 04:38:36 PM
I have the original Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System. Case and all. Tons of other SMS games as well, but PS is probably my most collectible.
85  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ape escape on the loose on: April 03, 2005, 04:36:44 PM
One a related but completely different note, how is ape escape for the psp? I fell like I would like it, but the reviews are luke warm, and someone on this board said they were hating it. So im holding off from purchaseing it yet.
86  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP Sales: 'Solid, but not spectacular' on: April 03, 2005, 04:25:13 PM
Sounds about right. The gamestops around here are sold out, but the box stores are loaded (with the excepception of 1 walmart, go figure). Of course, that launch number might be cut in thirds or smaller if everyone with dead pixels returened theirs until theygot a good one. My little brother is on number five. He has been to both gamestop and toys r us now. Im just glad that mine was perfect the first time. Talk about a bummer if it wasnt.
87  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP Questions on: April 02, 2005, 01:09:11 AM
Also, to add about that screw in cover, if you screw the side closest to the eject button in too much you cant eject your disc. Scared me the first time I did it. You have to keep that side a little bit loose. That is teh biggest problem I have with it, but other then that it seems to be doing its job allright.
88  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / IT'S PINK! on: April 01, 2005, 11:58:35 PM
I kind of like the pink. And I think my penis can stay right where it is even after I said that. Pink is a good color.
89  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I don`t agree with this at all, do you? on: April 01, 2005, 11:55:57 PM
Well, I have played one extensively (not mine, I dont own one) and I have to say it doesnt feel like as much of a gimmick once you play it. It is great.  The only problems I have with it is the lack of games. What is with no huge franchise games coming to it? I cant believe it. not even ports of N64 games. Unbelieveable. They need to start porting games to it at the very least, and also pump some more new games into it. Yoshi tough and go does not constitute a full fledged game. I have played this a lot, and while it is fun, it isnt a big title, and this si the kind of stuff nintendo is pulling out right now. Come on nintendo, get your act together on this one.
90  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP Questions on: April 01, 2005, 08:11:28 PM
Quote from: "Devil"
Logitech one should be out in mid-April.

I have the screw on one right now and it works pretty well in the mean time.

I have the same one I think smile. Mine screws in at the top and tehn flaps down to cover the face of the psp. Not a bad setup, and definatly works while I wait for the good logitech one. The only problem with it is that the cover obstructs the use of the shoulder buttons a little bit. I cant have it completely back while playing, I have to have it about half ways.
91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP Questions on: April 01, 2005, 07:00:34 AM
When is that logitech case coming out? I have a cheap little screw on case right now just to cover the screen. It works pretty well and looks allright, but I would like something better if I can find it. That logitech one definatly peaks my interest. When is it coming out?
92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP online on: April 01, 2005, 06:25:36 AM
Hmm. For some reason I thought wipeout and untold legends and others had online mp. Shoot, oh well. Im loving every single one of my games so far. I picked up twisted metal today and played it online. What a blast! So far its the only online game I have.
93  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Rebelstar Tactical Command coming to GBA on: March 31, 2005, 05:41:34 AM
Wow, glad I kept my GBA sp instead of selling it for PSP stuff. Looking good!
94  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP online on: March 31, 2005, 05:30:41 AM
Anyone know when the PSP games multiplayer will work? I have wipeout, untold legends and soccer, and non of their multiplayer works. When is this going to happen? Anyone know which games are working online right now and when the rest will be working? I want some multiplayer!
95  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PSP] Tony Hawk on: March 31, 2005, 05:28:53 AM
Hmm. Might need to get this too.

Nobody seems to talk about untold legends here, is it not good? The reviews seemed posative about it. I have it but would be willing to return it... any good impressions from anyone?
96  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP - dead pixels? on: March 31, 2005, 03:37:17 AM
Mine is perfect, but I got into a huge argument at gamestop today with the manager about my little brothers which had about 6 dead pixels, but it was worth it. They were out of untis so I eventually got them to give straight cash for the unti and I took him to toys r us and got a perfect one. Tested it in the store too. The gamestop here kept saying how is was sony's fault. I told them when they sold it to someone it became their fault. Took about 20 minutes of arguing, but it was worth it smile. One dead pixel is enoguh in my book for a return to be warrented. Sony has had some terrible QA when it comes to the PSP. The button issue, the dead pixels. They are just far too arrogant. But I do love my PSP smile.
97  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Best PSP Launch Game? on: March 31, 2005, 03:28:40 AM
Im having the most fun with soccer actually! Great so far. I have soccer, wipeout and untold legends. All well worth the money, but soccer has my attention the most so far.
98  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Yet another PSP topic - What one (maybe 2) game(s)? on: March 29, 2005, 05:15:05 AM
Wipeout! Loving it a lot. I play it pretty much exculsivly. The other game I picked up was untold legends. I have only played it for about 2 seconds too see how the game looked, and those impressions were great! Felt a lot like baulder's gate for the xbox (which I really enhoyed). '

If I had to chose one I would say wipeout. It is great. Ive beat the first three tournaments, and I cant wait to try the next one! The difficulty level can be easy, but also insanely hard depending on the speed. Well worth the money. The visuals are outstanding. And the sound is pretty good as well. The music gets a little annoying, and I wish you could play to your own music. That would definatly be a plus.

My next purchase will probably be either soccer, ape escape, or possibly even spider man 2. Just depends on the mood im on next time im in a store smile.
99  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How I got me a PSP! on: March 29, 2005, 03:34:44 AM
Allright, I did it too. I traded in about 6 old ps1 games, and a few other things too. I was able to keep my GBA however, which was definatly what I wanted. I traded in four dreamcast games for about $4 a piece. Not a great deal, but I dont play those ones anyways. I also unloaded fable for $15, monkey ball for $12 and godzilla for $12. Not too bad. 3 gba games for $15 or so. I ended up paying $200 in cash for it as well, because I got two games.

Wipeout- great game. Ive only played this one so far. Its really fun and well worth the money.

Untold legends- havnt played it yet!

But anyways, it was well worth the money for it. The games are awsome and I definatly love nearly everything about it. Most of my fears have been done away with. The only thing that really pisses me off is the stupid easy to fingerprint thing. The thing looks crappy and dirty after just a second or two! Anyways, other then that im loving it. I like how Sony included headphones and stuff. I cant even plug regular headphones into my GBA sp, but not only can I plug regular headphones into the psp, they are provided! Great system, well worth the money, despite my initial thoughts.
100  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How I got me a PSP! on: March 27, 2005, 12:18:01 AM
Damn, the urge is growing... and I cant even afford it. Shoot, maybe on monday I will pick one up. They dont seem too terribly hard to come by, every store seems to have a few. Im thinking of getting rid of my gba for it... dumb idea? I never play my handheld when im not travelling, and I dont see myself taking more then one system on the road... but there are some great game I have for my GBA that im sure I wouldnt mind playing again. I guess I will just have to pick up a GBA player for my cube.

Oh well, I think im going to go for it tomorrow if they are still around. If not, oh well, I stick with my GBA and am happy. Im going to be getting rid of the following at a local video game store come tomorrow (or monday if I get too busy tomorrow):

(GBA)
GBA sp system
NFS Porsche Unleashed
Rayman 3
Metroid

(Xbox)
Full spectrum warrior

(GCN)
GODDAMM
Super monkey ball 1

(PSone)
David Beckham Soccer
Syphon Filter 3
Star Wars Rebel Assault 2
Star Wars Jedi Power Battles
2 controllers

(Dreamcast)
Test drive le mans 24 hours
Coaster works
space channel 5
toy commander

(sega master system)
controller
Miracle warriors
space harrier 3d

Hopefully I will get some decent money for all of this. If at all possible I am going to keep my gba sp. I just have trouble even imagining getting rid of it. I hope I can get the price of the system down to $200. Then im going to get Ape escape and probably Untold legends. Although I also want wipeout pure. Hmm, anyways, a combination of two of those game will be mine as well. Unless I change my mind. Which I dont see happening.

The only title on that list that I remotely care about is the New Super Mario Bros game, since it won't be available on any other system and I've been wanting a new Super Mario game for a LONG time. Curse you Nintendo, why are you bringing it out for the DS?? Why not the GBA, the ultimate 2D system? Oh well.

Age of Empires? No thanks, I've got that on my computer already and judging by the screenshots I have seen from the Nintendo Power, I won't be missing much as it seems to be a turn based game now on the DS.

AoE is turn based? I hadnt seen that. Well, my interest wanes a little bit with that. Still intriguing though. Anyone know where some screens of AoE are?

well, i pay less - obviously for less... but it's a free country and i'll whine if i want to!

actually, i thought the magazine companies wanted you to subscribe - isn't that the whole idea?  if i had to go to the closest place that carries them, i'd probably pay less even than i pay to subscribe, bcz i'd pass on a lot of them for that price, and i wouldn't likely get there every month, either.

that leads me to another question - does the local store get a cut?  you'd think they'd have to - so how much does the mag company get from me, vs. from the store?  anyone know?  maybe they really should be treating me better...

Yeah they should be treating you better, because subscribers is what they make their money on. I buy one a year now since I havnt had a subscription. They get much much less money from me now then they did when I was a subscriber. They get alomst nothing. The last one I bought had PGR2 as teh demo. Its a shame, if they had just delivered on time I would have had many more.

#1:  Find a mechanic you (or someone you trust) trusts, and have them look the car over, checking it for anything he can tell you.  Expect to spend about $1-2000 in repairs for the car in the next 2-3 years.  If the owner won't let you take it to a mechanic, walk away.

Yeah, im planning on having a friend of mine who fixes up old cars come look at it with me. Im fully willing to walk away from it, although I do like it. Thanks for the advice, it would suck to get that car home and find out something was terribly wrong with it. I think all call the guy today and tell him im going to need a mechanic to look at it.
113  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Car Purchasing Help on: March 12, 2005, 05:32:39 PM
Im lookin for a cheap little car to just use for around town that gets good gas mileage. So far Ive found a 1980 Honda Accord for around $600. Its in good shape, but I cant seem to find very much information about it. Im not sure what I need to know about accords from this era to make an informed decision. I have some time to figure it out, but I need a new cheap car pretty soon. The car has anywhere between 79000 and 179000 (I geuss it could be 279000) miles. Not sure as it doesnt have enough digits to show it. Anyways, it runs well, and everything works. The lights in the dash dont seem to work, but I believe its just fuse out. The owner doesnt seem to know. He bought it from a dealer 8 months ago or so. He is a detailer, so he fixed it up a little bit to turn around and sell it again.

Anyways I like Hondas, and I like the way this car drives. Its a nice little car, but I dont want to get ripped off. Granted its only a few hundred dollars, but still, im quite strapped for money right now. Any information from people with experience of old accords would be great to hear.

Thanks!

It looks like Bioware agrees with you.  They stated in the most recent EGM that Jade Empire is deliberately shorter (approx 20 hours for the main game) than their past works.
