I'll be getting it. Wii U is worth it's money this year with Mario Kart and super smash. Excited for it.

This is about as close to a 3d platformer we get these days so I am predisposed to like the game.

Unless you own a Wii u of course, where the king of platformers still is alive and well. But they are gone for playstation and xbox yes.

Has anyone had a good/bad experience working with MS for a faulty disc drive?  Mine still mostly works but more often than not it now fails at identifying a blu-ray disc on the first try or two.

I want to get it fixed since it's the primary movie-machine for the kiddos, but I also don't want to lose access to Destiny for weeks and weeks right now if the turnaround time is terrible.
They replaced mine no questions asked. Shipped it out with packaging to return mine. I returned mine and all my saves were still there since they were in the cloud. Obviously would have been nice to never have the issue but they replaced it without even a hiccup. It was painless as could be, I was without an xbox for all of five minutes.

Man this forum is insufferable. Thanks guys. I guess I was too angry Roll Eyes please. It's a video game. I don't have time or energy to be angry about video games.

My post was about the game. He asked for links in another thread. So I wanted links too. Links from tilt, not from others but the person who made the post. Without tilt posting it I couldn't know exactly which previews were referred to.
Ironically it appears tilt had no real previews to show. Instead it's just "yeah what everyone else said..." so I think it certainly is very fair to ask for links.

"Personal attacks are not allowed in this forum" yes I had very strong personal attacks. Please. I want links and pointed out a pattern.

Seems previews on the game are mixed. Not surprising, thoughts have been mixed since e3. The mp has looked especially weak previously. May still be surprising on single player.

This game is getting absolutely slaughtered in previews right now. It's the only game in the Xbox One's launch lineup that journalists won't hesitate to say is outright bad.
I'm shocked of all people you would take the time to post this here...

If you don't have anything useful to say, you should probably just keep the console wars to the other thread.
Links please to the particular previews you are speaking of. In terms of introducing the console war here why are you even posting in here? Honestly tell me would you race here to post if you saw good previews? Your posting history says no.

How about sticking to talking about the content instead of dragging us back into character attacks?  You could say something like "can you link some of the previews?"  I'd like to see them too.
Guess your post was helpful too right? Tilt has a pattern. It's gotten old. I'll point it out when I feel like it. I really would appreciate the links though. I'm not planning on getting ryse on launch, it doesn't really look like the kind of game I would enjoy but I would still like to read previews to see if I am missing something.

Pro tip: Entering a thread with declarations of the type "haha, I laugh mockingly at one particular side in this discussion" isn't bound to make people take you seriously or respect your opinion.

I wasn't worried about your opinion tilt. Just an observation that it was highly predictable.  The reaction to my post is surprising I will say. I'll probably just go away from gaming trend for a few years again though.  Thanks for the free pro tip.

Same order here. Played them three or for times already. The bomber fully loaded is dangerous but hard to capitalize on, the b wing is beastly but slow, great ship. The hwk I like a lot more than a lot if people. The turret really helps a lot. The shuttle I haven't been able to use very well yet. I'll have to try some new things with it.

I also pre ordered two imperial ace packs... They just look too good.

That is fair in most cases, but not when it comes to GTA. You always play a selfish, criminal prick in these games. The closest we got to morals was Nico, and he's a homicidal maniac who would get counted as a terrorist by even the most forgiving of nations. Anyone who, after 4 main games and a multitude of great spinoffs, doesn't understand that these games aren't about playing someone who gives you warm, fuzzy feelings, isn't qualified to review these games since he clearly hasn't done his research. It's like picking up a puzzle game and listing "it's a puzzle game" under cons.

I agree. I think that anybody by now should be able to figure out that those kind of characters come with the territory. Anybody expecting anything less has clearly not been paying attention all these years. Perhaps if that's what they want, they should go play Nintendo games.
So is it wrong for there to be a review written for people who are NOT already fans of the series?

No, but it's wrong to review a game where you don't like and/or understand its basic premises. You don't set someone who doesn't like sports to review a sports game, so why would you set someone who doesn't like crime stories to review a crime game? It does everyone a disservice.

I actually found the review quite helpful because I was considering giving gta a try again since the last one I played was three. But while the game may be fantastic I'm not into the content still it seems. A bit much for me. It's a fair criticism, you just don't agree with it.

One of my biggest gripes about my 360 (and my old PS3Phat) was the sound of the disk spinning - sometimes I had to turn the sound down, and that was distracting.

Yeah mine is behind glass in a cabinet so I never hear it but if I leave the cabinet open I sometimes will look down thinking "what the heck is that noise?" Before realizing it's the xbox disc drive.

Are you guys talking about a "slim" model here? While it was certainly an issue for the original design, I don't have an issue with the drive in my Slim. Heck, I seldom bother to install things to the hard drive anymore.
I'm still rocking my original xbox 360. No problems ever with it other than the noise so I've never changed, no reason to.

Honestly since mine is behind glass it doesn't even bother me and isn't something I've even thought about next generation. It is so low on my list of considerations it doesn't even register. But dang my 360 is loud when I keep the cabinet open!

How could you possibly say the xb1 is crap? I mean seriously we haven't even seen it yet. Showing some serious bias there with that comment. It looks to be a great system. Maybe not your system of choice but it almost certainly won't be a failure or crap.

Don't know if you've been following anything from the past few months, but remember all the consumer unfriendly programs and features they initially touted for the XB1? That's what I'm talking about. The hardware may be fine, but the functionality was not until the people, and their competitors reacted. All the "positives" from those systems were only revealed after they had canceled it, so I don't count stuff like family sharing as real until they officially announced it.

That's a clear example of the kind of thinking that comes when you've had too much dominance in an area and try to leverage it without providing more positives.

In terms of business and corporate culture, it's valid to bring this up.

Sorry the product still isn't out. Hard to call it crap. Even as it stood it is unlikely it would have been a failure. It doesn't add to your narrative very well.

I have 3 360 controllers. I use 2 occasionally but rarely the third. I do however own 4 wii u controllers (5 if you count the game pad) and they are used rather frequently. I will say I appreciate that nintendo has fully kept that portion of console gaming. On social occasions it is far more likely to be used as a result. It would be nice if ms introduced more social games.

I have 2 xb1 controllers pre ordered now (the base one and an extra one). I'm guessing those are the only two I will ever own.

Very few people will buy more than 2 controllers, heck I doubt many will buy 2 controllers due to the lack of couch multiplayer games this gen.
One of the things I am missing most these days. One thing I loved about consoles was having a few friends on my couch all playing together. less and less games are supporting this these days.

Ps3 could have seven controllers. Nobody even knew it if that tells you how often it was used. It would be cool if ms found a way to really use 8 controllers but I would guess the xbox one will make about as much use of eight controllers as the ps3 did of 7.

I'm hoping one of two things happened, for BYU's sake:

1.  Hill just had a really bad case of first game jitters.  He looked awful out there.
2.  Virginia is actually a decent defensive team that was able to shut them down.

For the record, I don't think either are true...I just think it's going to take a while for that offense to click.  They better hope it does sooner rather than later.  Also read this morning that it was the first time in something like 20 years that a team won a game in which they punted 13 times.   icon_lol

EDIT:  Correction, it was the first time this century that has happened.

Yeah good to know we are helping to set records! I think hill had some jitters... But I still think he is not a great qb. In fact he looks to be really bad. We may see the second string soon enough though. Secondly I am guessing Virginia will still suck. We just suck a tiny bit more. On to Texas!

WTF Was That?  Part 1:  #25 Oregon State lets an FBS school drop 49 on them at home and loses 49-46.

WTF Was That?  Part 2:  the local media has been telling us all fall how BYUs offense was a fast paced, quick scoring, yardage -in-chunks offense, drawing many breathless comparisons to Oregon.  In reality, it was an utter dud against a very mediocre Virginia team (with one of the worst QBs I've ever seen), managing only 16 points in a 19-16 loss.

Feeling a little better about playing both those teams now. We had all chalked up the Oregon State game as a sure loss, but now I'm not so sure.  And BYU is always a toss-up, no matter how good or bad either team is.  smile

The byu game was a head scratcher. I didn't buy into the go hard go fast hype but sill that was horrible. Taysom hill looked like Riley ball version 2.0. I don't have much hope for this season. What an absolute waste of elite defensive talent in van noy. Wish he could have come at a time when there was an offense worth playing with.

Having picked up season 2 and played it four times already I think it added both good and bad. I love the new zombie types. They really change the game in a good way. Lots of new weapons = awesome. Ultrared weapons- rarely get to use them, really cool when you do. The one thing I'm really not sold on is the zombivors. The good thing is it makes the game easier for new players etc. The bad thing is they make the game easier. I've won 3 of the 4 games I've played. All 3 were hard scenarios. That's a higher winning percentage than I previously had. Also the starting weapons for prison outbreak are a lot stronger. No pans and everyone basically starts with a decent and useful item. Not sure how I feel about that.

Long story short I like season 2 a  ton. It really improves the game. I may have to tweak it a bit to where I want it. I may try either starting as zombivors or not turning into zombivors. I also am considering going back to the original starting weapons more often.

I rally can't wait for the zombie and companion dogz although it looks like we will have to wait a bit for that now (shipping in October it seems).

I actually don't think I will need more zombicide but I probably will get season 3 still. I have played zombicide more than any other game the last 6 months. Not so much because it is my favorite game but more because my friends always want to play it. It really appeals to them.

That's exactly what I think happened. Ms could do no right at e3 after they announced the xb1. Everyone was out for blood. Conversely Sony could do no wrong. Ryse is climbing up my list of games I'm looking forward to rapidly now.

Good:
It does have a little of everything.
It is Halo. Quite frankly, I forgot most of the time I was not Master Chief.

Bad:
Free roam city. Just wasting time.
Lame story. I don't usually get into the story anyway, but this one just felt lame. I can't even imagine looking for the audio logs and listening to more of that crap.
Short.
Dark. 90% of the time had the visor on.
Character design was horrible. Talk about fugly.

Quoting my wife here...
"Every Halo after the first is even worse than the on before it. What a letdown. That wasn't worth the $60."

See and I would say quite the opposite. I think every Halo game has actually improved. ODST is short, but the game style is completely different than the other three and I really think it adds a cool element to the game. The mp is awesome I think. Of course the extra disc is just Halo 3 mp, but the firefight mode is a blast. A real change from the typical Halo game types. I only wish it were longer, but it has a lot of replay value in my opinion and firefight gives it quite a bit of life. Plus if you got it at toys r us you got a $20 gift card with it, totally worth it smile .

I have to travel a lot for work, and in the car with headphones on, the volume cranked all the way up and even the +2 in the menu for umd movies on I cannot hear lots of the parts of the movies. Just way too quiet, and then insanley loud in action parts. For a handheld sony should even out the sound a bit more, even if it is different from the real version. Im telling you, if there is any outside noise at all you wont be able to hear a large amount of the dialouge even with eveerything maxed out.

This sentance is why nintendo is having trouble catching up with the other two

No, one of the main reasons that Nintendo is having trouble catchin gup with the other two is the "This is the shiznit, yo!" mentality surrounding those other two consoles. Sony started playing that card with the PS1 (despite similarly kid friendly representation as Crash Bandicoot and the like) and really ramped it up for PS2. Micro$oft followed on those coat tails and the media gobbled it up. The teen masses followed.

While Nintendo hasn't help shed it's light hearted image over the years by continuing to feature Mario, Link, Samus, and such, they've continued to produce fantastic gameplay throughout each of it's generations. That is almost always overlooked by the bright-shiny centric crowds of today. I expect this trend to continue next generation as well... and to be honest I'm counting on it.

Even now, into my 30s, Nintendo has never failed to provide me with entertaining and innovative gameplay. Gameplay and magic that just cannot be captured on the PC. If that means I have to resort to using my PC for my shoot 'em simulators and other such mature games, so be it. It's my choice. Just as it's anyone's choice NOT to support Nintendo (or whomever). We should be celebrating these choices rather than bashing them.

Im sorry, did you think I was bashing nintendo? Nintendo is disconnected from the gaming community. If they wernt, they would stay more mainstream. If you took what I said as some overriding attack on nintendo, then you need to really think about it. Nintendo may produce great gameplay, but they are getting farther and farther away from the gaming community. They have brand spanking new handheld out with some great possibilities, and actually have some serious competition in the handheld market and what are they pimping? A game where you can pat a dog. Please. Get your head on nintendo. They are so self absorbed in japan. It is really hurting them. Im sorry I dont "celebrate their choices" and I think I can bash it all I want. It isnt smart bussiness. How long can nintendo hold on while continuing to lose market share in both the console market and the handheld market? They are still making money now but how long can that last? I would hope for a long time, but common sense says otherwise.

You want to know the truth? I love nintendo. I own a gamecube and a gba. Somehow you took my saying nintendo is getting disconnected from the gaming community (which I truly believe it is) to mean that people shouldnt like nintendo and that I should celebrate their choices. To be honest, I dont know where the hell you are coming from. I believe I should be able to criticize nintendo, and that line really summarized well the way nintendo seems to think about gamers. I want nintendo to do well and I too have enjoyed all three of their games over this generation, but I think the most storied video game company can do a little better then a company knwon for making electronics and a company making operating systems.

This sentance is why nintendo is having trouble catching up with the other two:

Patting a dog and telling it to stay [in Nintendogs] is something that anyone can enjoy.

Wow, how disconnected is nintendo?

And dimmona was pretty right on with his summary. Nintendo doesnt seem to get involved  in the bashing between the other two. Probably because they dont really have a chance right now.

This line from sony is great:

When we released the original PlayStation at 39,800 yen ($368), Nintendo's Super Famicom was in the 10,000 yen range ($100 range). Still, everyone went for the PlayStation.

And believe it or not, ms is one upping sony by pointing out that the xbox sold more units in the last 4 years then classic nes systems were sold in the same 4 year period. Thats why price doesnt matter!

We'll try to be calm and avoid the violent hyperbole that spoils so many gaming websites, but are you telling me that Congress can hold hearings about steroids in baseball, but they can't do anything about jumping puzzles in first-person games? YOU CAN'T SEE YOUR MOTHERFUCKING FEET. IT DOESN'T WORK.

I understand this occurring in games like Turok 3. That's why they're called bad games.

Haha, I found it really funn actually. This part cracked me up, and was so true:

The crate has long been held up as a symbol of lazy game art design, a crutch that game level decorators have been falling back on for fifteen damned years. Come to think of it, have you ever actually seen one of those wooden crates in real life? And did you smash it to see if there were bullets and medicine inside?
