What I find so amusing about the General forum is that it could have been cut and pasted from the Rift forums at launch.

x% of people complaining that they need combat parsing
x% of people complaining that they need an LFG tool
x% of people complaining that one side always wins warfronts
x% of people complaining that the servers are dying and need to be merged
x% of people saying they are going to leave

And then probably an equal amount of people on the other side of each argument (or in the case of the people leaving, people saying "can I have your stuff?")

Amen to that.

Another thing that's quite typical is when someone posts a thread about an encounter being too difficult and that it needs to be tuned down. Almost like a chess board the following posts alternates between "Agree, I have had a hard time with that boss too" and "I thought it was pretty easy. Make sure your companion is geared up and make use of your CC abilities" responses.

YMMV is stronger than the force in those threads.

I took a moment this morning to browse the TOR forums.  Im seriously beginning to wonder if there isnt some kind of sponsored negative trolling campaign being supported by other interests.  I can understand that the game may not be everyones cup of tea but why do people waste their on the forums if they hate the game so much.

It's better in the class forums (at least the specific ones). I go there to get my dose of slightly more mature posts of opinions and helpful suggestions. It seems to me that most of the single-minded haters are trolling around in the general discussion forum.

55  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Old Game Revival Thread - What games do you want to see updated / sequeled? on: January 20, 2012, 10:52:43 PM
I'd like to see modern remakes of these games:

Anachronox
Baldur's Gate 2 (modern 3D engine and all)
Half-Life (by Valve and not by fans that may never get finished)
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (modern adventure game engine)
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (the first game and with SaveAnywhere)
MDK (this is what I want to be remade - not MDK 2)
Realms of the Haunting
Unreal

I'd like to see the following sequels:

Anachronox 2
Baldur's Gate 3 (but I dread how they might mess it up)
The Dig 2 (or a similar science fiction adventure)
Dreamfall 2 (lots of lose ends to deal with)
Fallout 4
Full Throttle 2
Gabriel Knight 4
Gateway 3 (and this time in a modern adventure game engine)
Grim Fandango 2
The Journeyman Project 4
Legend of Kyrandia 4
Monkey Island 5
The Nomad Soul 2 (Omikron)
Outcast 2 (was actually in the works but alas was cancelled)
System Shock 3 (lets have the DE:HR team have a go at it!)
Thief 4
Tex Murphy adventure #6 (in a modern 3D engine with modern controls)

Currently level 36 and barely finished with Balmorra.

Is it me or are there a bit too many laser-shooting and sword-wielding humanoids and droids as quest fodder on these planets? There have been a few exceptions (e.g. Rhakghouls on Taris), but other than that I would like more strange monsters and animals. Balmorra started with a few of those, then quickly turned to humanoids/droids and pretty much nothing else for the remainder of the tour. Does this get better on the planets after Balmorra?

- Quest items that can be triggered without having to drag them into the hotbar
Is this inconsistent?  I've never had a problem using quest items in the inventory panel.

I believe WoW and Rift shows small quest item icons next to the quest objectives in the right side of the screen. A great little detail that means I don't have to drag the quest item into my action bar or activate it from the inventory. I really wish SWTOR had this too. At least I hope it's not too far down on their "To Do" list.

Oh, last pet peeve - if you so much as breathe, you lose your focus. Get on your mount - lose focus. Send your companion to sell greys - lose focus. Have a conversation - lose focus. Do something that I'm not even sure what I did - lose focus. So many times I wind up pressing my middle mouse to heal my companion to find out that I no longer have him in focus.

It didn't take long before I forgot all about focus. Too much hassle activating it all the time.

Plus, the key to hold down for healing my companion had to be a "real" key like other hotkeys. I couldn't choose ALT or CTRL, for instance, which would have made more sense to me. (I always use the middle mouse button for auto-running in MMORPG.)

We then have a second update coming in March, and that’s going to be a much bigger update, another flashpoint – part two of Rise of the Rakghouls – and we’re going to have a whole new planet, with a brand new operation and warzone. We’re going to have the second part of the Legacy system, which is the real meat of it. We’re going to have guild banks, PVP ranking systems, and a lot of smaller additions and bug fixes. And we’re already working on the third update. The story’s already written out and being recorded for the fourth, fifth… and I can’t say how many updates we have, but we have a lot. Just to give you an idea of how far we’re planning ahead, we’ve already got voiceover being recorded for content you won’t see for a year or more. We’re really making sure we deliver new content. We also want to make sure that the Star Wars galaxy feels alive, so we’re working on an event system, which we’ll be giving more details about in the new future.

Personally I'd rather have BioWare did something about the shadow technology they use. I ran Crysis and Witcher 2 on my computer with almost everything at max, but the shadows in SWTOR did bad things to my framerate so I had to turn them off.

Agree with the respawning in dungeons. Often I just use my 30 minutes teleport at that point. Having to fight the same enemies on my way out is not fun.

I actually like that the game doesn't have day/night cycles. I hated it in LOTRO - made everything too dark and I'm not keen on just turning everything up with gamma. Sometimes when I logged onto LOTRO and discovered that it was nighttime I often groaned.

One thing I really like is the countdown before being PvP flagged. In WoW you were just PvP flagged instantly. Here you actually have a chance to back out and avoid it. (I'm probably the worst anti-PvP carebear in the world.)

Regarding difficulty spikes - I've had some of those too that I've been wondering about.

During chapter 1 there were difficult bosses but I still managed to kill them in the first or second try (even the chapter 1 end boss), so I thought I was keeping up nicely with skills and gear. Then I hit Balmorra (in Bugtown, the Republic side as Jedi Sage) at level 32 and got a bonus where I had to kill colicoids (insect-like species with fast jumps) followed by destroying their eggs and nests. I think the mission was for level 33 so I was just one level below.

The first part of the bonus was a combined kill many strong colicoids and three elite colicoids. The elite colicoids were handing me my ass like raid bosses. I really had to give it everything I had; interrupts, stun, medipaks, healing, force wave, even kiting away with the running ability. After killing the first two elite colicoids my companion and I had just a sliver of health left, and the third one even managed to kill me once.

I know I was one level below, but I still think that was a bit harsh. Sometimes I wouldn't mind if BioWare tuned it down just a little bit. Although I managed to complete the bonus, I went back to Tatooine instead and continued with an extra bonus mission series I left behind (now green quests and way easier).

The AH in SWTOR gets a lot of flak these days, but at least they have one thing right that LOTRO never did: A reset button. I never understood why Turbine wouldn't want to add this logical button to their AH interface. Every time I had to make a new search I had to meticulously delete or correct text input and close previously opened item trees. Not fun.

I'm skipping the spoiler wrapping for the Jedi Consular ship too. If anyone objects please tell me and I'll of course change it.

This is a view towards the bridge on the top floor. Just inside the first round opening and to the right you'll find the ship droid. The cyan lighted door at the end of the stairs down is the exit. (Look at the minimap to get your bearings.)

Qyzen Fess is standing in the far aft, lower floor. To the right out of view is a room where Tharan (the healer) can be found. (At the moment those are the only companions I have as I've just hit level 30.)
