This game is so at the top of my list.  Just wish I knew when I'd be able to fit it in the budget.  Which is kind of moot since who knows when you'll actually be able to buy it again without getting lucky.

Is there anywhere online to watch season 2 yet? I only just finally got done with season 1 a few weeks ago.

There's an iPad smart Case now available in the store that also covers the back of your iPad:

I can never wrap my head around the crazy high prices for the official cases.  I got one that's virtually identical to that for ~$26 shipped two months ago.

I have an ipad.  Is there anything I care about?

Mostly, I just want to know that if I have to update the OS, it's not going to bog down the ipad2.  The main thing I'd really like to see is persistent notification icons in the top bar.  Having them vanish into the no-man's land of the invisible notification tray is dumb.

Don't have any advice about the foam thing.  I wound up getting (I think) a Serta that I like.

What I will say is that I was shocked to find out how much negotiation on price you can do with mattresses. It was basically like buying a used car with mine, right down to "Hmm...I'm gonna have to check with my manager."  It's really weird, but there it is.  I got mine down from a sticker price of $999 plus delivery to $650 delivered with a free cover.  I think there's less wiggle room for Tempurpedic just because it's the big name, but it's worth a try.

ArmA2: Combined Operations is $15, which seems like a good deal if you want to try Day Z.  If I thought I had time to play it before the Steam summer sale, I'd be all over it.

They also have Jane Jensen's Gray Matter for $5, which I might snag.

12  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Boston Area Risk Legacy Recurring Game Night? on: May 04, 2012, 06:43:36 PM
Yes and no.  The core of the game is the new version of Risk, with victory conditions meaning the games are under two hours.

The really interesting shit is the development of the game over multiple plays.  It goes for 15 sessions, and after each one the winner gets to write his name on the winner's section of the board, found (and write the name of) a new city on the board, cards are ripped up to remove rules, others get new versions pasted over them with a sticker, etc.  Basically, the game itself changes over the course of the 15 plays depending on choices that get made in earlier plays.  It's a massively cool concept.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, or CoD: Eclipse? on: May 02, 2012, 06:21:04 PM
Goddamit, I have no interest in CoD, since I didn't even bother to finish MW3, and barely played the MP.  I shouldn't care at all about CoDBlOps2: Teh BlOpening.

But you tell me sci-fi with walking tanks, and I get interested.
14  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Cabin in the Woods on: April 30, 2012, 07:38:34 PM
This kind of movie was always going to make a huge chunk of its income through DVD/BR sales.  Given its strong word of mouth, it'll probably have a pretty long tail on home video while the people who weren't interested originally keep hearing us yell about it.  Those people might not be curious enough to see it in the theater, but will probably give it a try via rental or outright buying.

I find I have this aversion to having to pay $30+ for a case to put my electronic device in.  The Smartsuite cases look really nice, but I can't stomach the $50 price point.  I'm probably going to wind up gritting my teeth and paying $30 for one of these, which looks to be very similar to the Smartsuite ones.
19  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: iPhone/iTouch app and game thread on: April 24, 2012, 10:19:53 PM
It's not just books, and they don't always have lite.  For example, The 13th Skull is an adventure game that doesn't say it's shareware in the title, but it is. Yeah, I can figure it out, but it's a lame practice.

Boo, I really despise that "It's free! (except that we don't mention that this is really a shareware version)" practice.  It's a cheap trick.

A lot of times the "top in in-app purchases!" headline helps you spot which apps are only pretend free, but yeah, I agree with you.

Those ones are definitely easy to spot, and the really nice ones tell you at the top of the description field what the deal is.  I still really dislike that I have to do detective work to figure out if the app is free, free to play (with in-app purchases a la Hero Academy), or is just a shareware version.

On the thing being discussed in spoiler tags:

Spoiler for Hiden:
I took it as a statement on the basic selfishness of humans, teens especially.  Yeah, the world will end, but I'm not willing to die to prevent it.

They may have also been hoping that the lady was lying about the world actually ending.  Which is another potential statement on the horror movie trope of never ever believing anything anyone tells you because it's too unbelievable.  Never mind that you're being hunted by supernatural forces, this thing about how to stop them is TOO MUCH TO BELIEVE.

Even the woman's arrival from out of nowhere was a brilliant deus ex moment.  This massive sacrificial chamber with the facility overrun with monsters, and here comes Sigourney from who knows where to lay it all out.  I love it.

I took advantage of the heavy discounts and just picked up an ipad 2.  A buddy at work won one of the new ones in a company contest which was an upgrade to his old ipad 2.

We both agree that the screen on the new one is indeed really really pretty.  We both also agreed that the screen on the old one is still pretty, and neither of us necessarily thought that the new one was $150 prettier than the old one.

The other thing that pushed me to getting the old one is that most of the anecdotal evidence is that the new one doesn't necessarily feel much (if any) "faster" than the old one.  If most of the extra performance on the new one is going to pushing all those pixels, then the old one might not start feeling slower for a while yet.  At least, that's what I'm banking on.

Anyone have a lead on a really slim case that covers both the back and the front, doesn't cover the bezel, and isn't very expensive? Ideally under $30.

More like given how cheap and plentiful labor is in china, it's way easier to find a human who can do what you need than to design and program a robot to do it.

I'm not sure if I will look like more of a dork playing this, or when I had the original Steel Battalion set up.

The trailer made it look like you could punch your crewmates if they got hysterical.  Please tell me that's real and is motion controlled.

I'll get Fez at some point.  I won't like supporting the dev though, who seems to be kind of a dick.  Grimrock too at some point, but both are on hold since Xenoblade happened.

Anyone know if this game plays ok with the original classic controller instead of the classic controller pro? I don't have a pro, but I have the OG version.

Isn't the only difference between the two that the pro has handles and the shoulder buttons are laid out a bit differently? I'd assume it works fine with either.
33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xenoblade coming to Europe, presumably US on: April 06, 2012, 02:46:38 PM
Yeah, I'm planning on picking it up on the way home, unfortunately doing some additional shopping while I'm at that shopping center, making a quick salad, and then settling in with a beer.  Thank goodness I got a classic controller with Monster Hunter.  smile

Pretty sure it's not Steamworks, which is why I'm not biting yet.  If I have to put up with Ubi's lousy DRM, I'm sure not also putting up with Gamestop's digital service too.
35  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Sword & Sworcery EP on: April 04, 2012, 01:59:35 PM
I look forward to being able to play this on a platform I own.  I've been pretty sad for a while that the devs are apparently superfans of Apple and refuse to port it to Android.
36  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Gamestop Friday Flash Sale 4-6-2012: Anno 2070 on: April 04, 2012, 03:55:44 AM
I hate these "first XXXX customers" type sales.  These days, word of them gets around so fast that it'll be sold out in a matter of seconds.  Since I know there's very little chance of me getting something at the sale price, I just don't bother even looking.  Either offer something at a certain price, or don't.  These obvious attention-grab sales probably wind up frustrating more people than enjoy them.

Also, I'd have to own the game on Impulse.  Ugh.  slywink

38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PS3 Gets Amazon Prime on: April 03, 2012, 10:46:13 PM
Poking around with the interface now.  First problem is that there's still no instant queue.  Second is that it's arranged in long horizontally-scrolling bars like netflix.  The huge problem with this is that when you go into the details of a title, then back out to the list you were looking at, it puts you back at the very beginning of the list.  TV shows are set up as a vertical list of episodes separated by seasons via tabs at the top, except the only way to change seasons is to scroll back to the top to highlight the tabs.

Basically, browsing's kind of a pain. They do separate TV shows by network which is neat, and the scrolling is speedy.  The app itself runs really well and is pretty slick, but the lack of a queue really hurts it compared to Netflix.

Oh come on, even PR_GMR said that HC2 had no redeeming qualities. smile

I'm 100% certain that it doesn't, but I still wanna see it.  smile

And yeah, FeedFlix is great, but I shouldn't have to go to a separate website to be told what's new on the website whose services I'm paying for.  FeedFlix also doesn't help much when I'm browsing on the 360/PS3.
