My nephew went to that L.A. presentation thingy.  He reported lots of good stuff to me about the multiplayer.  Some of the ideas they are implementing sound pretty cool.  I would love to see a GT group form where we competed together (as a team) against other teams, rather than just play against each other.

Are they going to make that possible and easy to do I wonder?  I think that would be fun as hell.

I'd give MP more of a shot with something like that but I'm planning on getting the PC version.

I totally agree with the death thing.  I think they flat blew it.  For you to respawn and the enemies still be where you left them healthwise is blatantly stupid.  Zero challenge.

But I will still play and enjoy it.  But not a keeper.  Play and sell immediately.  So, you who are waiting, be ready.

I didn't die at all in the demo so I didn't notice that.  I agree, that's kind of lame.

Every parent loves his or her child (barring mental disorders, etc).  Every child loves their parent (barring abusive situations, etc.)  You using the example of a teenager yelling at a parent to demonstrate their relationship is not deep and beautiful is laughably shallow.

You are misquoting me.  Your name is Rowdy.  I think THAT is laughable.  But that's neither here nor there.

Quote from: Rowdy on August 14, 2007, 09:02:47 PM

The relationship between a child and parent is a life long thing, it grows and changes constantly.  That's part of why it's so beautiful, because its ever changing but constant.  It's part of the human condition.  It's why the vast majority of people, when they're mature enough, decide they'd like to find a partner and have children.

There are a lot of fucked up people out there.  They aren't all the same thing.  Even the ones w/o mental disorders and w/o outright abuse.  You can't apply your own view of the world to everyone else.  That's the main point we seem to be sticking on.

Quote from: Rowdy on August 14, 2007, 09:02:47 PM

Someday, perhaps, you'll have a child and maybe you'll understand then.  It changes you.  Your brain chemistry, your thought patterns, your emotional make up all change.  We are designed to care for and protect our offspring, and you have to be pretty messed up to be able to wreck that biological connection.

My kid will be here in 30 days.  I *DO* understand.  To me it IS profound and important and I know I'll do anything for the little bastard (not literally... we've been married 7 years).  What I also understand is that gellar isn't wrong.  I do think that you are off base on a few important points.

Quote from: Rowdy on August 14, 2007, 09:02:47 PM

Marriages, I will grant you, are different - many are mistakes or aren't considered, or what have you.  That doesn't change the fact that people are built to want companionship and love, and that's the purpose of marriage.

No, that's the purpose of a committed relationship.  If a marriage can be a mistake and that's okay with you, what's the point in having one?  It is certainly not necessary to be married to have companionship and love.

You complete me.

So what was John (and the Chemist later on) staring at throughout the show? Google maps shows that area to be a Naval Radio Station, but I've seen it referred to as a bullring or a elephant cage. Ideas?

From Ain't It Cool News:

Actually, that thing is called a Circular Disposed Antenna Array (CDAA). My husband recognized it from his time in the Navy when they first showed it several episodes ago. It was part of the Imperial Beach Naval Security Group Command, which is no longer active. It is a large circular antenna array used by the military to triangulate radio signals for radio navigation, intelligence gathering and search and rescue.

Below are some pictures and explanations of what it does. Personally, I find it extremely fascinating that the show is making use of something like this.

Cheryl

photo of antenna array

CDAA = circular diposed antenna array
Nicknames - elephant cage, wullenweber

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wullenweber

Purpose - High Frequency Direction Finding - detecting particular radio signals.

local.live.com has a great overhead view of the one in IB.

If you zoom out, you can see it is right down the street from the El Camino Motel, where the Snug Harbor scenes are shot.

Any chance the slowdowns could be resolution dependent (i.e. 720p vs. 1080i)?

It could be console related.  I've seen Tomb Raider Legend played on my 360 and later on a friend was playing it on his.  On mine the first level was pretty smooth but his kept on stuttering (I had played with a rental copy while his was new) so it does happen occasionally.
