64804  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Two Worlds Impressions on: August 29, 2007, 02:37:26 PM
I had fun last night playing around with the mounted combat.  The horse takes some getting used to, but it feels better implemented than it did in Oblivion.  In that game I never bothered with one, but this one it's actually kind of fun to ride around.  The only thing I'd wish for is some trampling damage and maybe the ability to jump.

Also, when you register you get sent a code to spawn a unique item once during a game.  There's 5 or 6 codes, and I'm not sure how they're given out (GameFAQS already has all of them though) but I got a pretty nice Shield.  The others are a sword (supposedly insanely overpowered), a suit of armor, a spear and a bow.

One thing that does irk me is the fact that during conversations NO ONE'S mouth moves. Plus they really should have licensed Speedtree for the game.  The trees look prety, but if you circle around one with your view fixed on it the damn thing rotates with you likes it's made of 2D pixels.

Still, I'm having fun.  I was up until about 5am this morning playing, which was bad cause I had to be up at 9 for work.

Isn't the new alone in the dark going to be released as episodes?  I was interested in it 'til I heard that.

I don't thinks it's going to be released as episodes, but the gameplay is designed to be episodic:

Quote
This next-gen Alone in the Dark is also built around a unique episodic game structure -- the story is split into a number of distinct 30-40 minute episodes, doled out one at a time as you play. Each time the player launches a saved game, the episode will begin with a video summary of the previous episode to quickly re-immerse the player in the story and removing the need to remember where they were or what they were doing. Every episode will close with a nail-biting cliff-hanger ending to rattle players’ nerves, and if the player is leaving the game a video teaser of the next episode will play to leave them wanting more.

For a while you used to be able to get King Kong with your 360 HD-DVD player free. If you happen to get that package from Amazon (no clue if you will at all anymore), then you get 9.

When I looked though, it was 7 free discs - 2 with your HD-DVD purchase, and 5 with mail-in.

ah, I see.  Now it's 2 free plus King Kong in the box plus the 5 free.  I'd have loved to have a 3rd option off of the list.

Taiga and Volcanic Island I remember.

Badlands, Tropical Island, Underworld Sea, Plateau and Savannah are the only other original ones I can recall.  Man, just talking about them give me an itch to play again.  Luckily no one carries the cards around here.

Hopefully the flash grenades in this game don't leave you with a red circle above the enemies heads so you can still mow them down while flashed.  That kind of annoys me in BF2 360.

I usually just end up shooting in every direction when I get flashed anyways.

yeah, I imagine it was alot more challenging than having the 'soft autoaim' option the 360 supposedly has.  Those Splicers could be awfully nimble.

Yeah, I hated that soft auto-aim. It was more challenging, but not always in a good way. The weapons just do not react as well as you are accustomed to in pure shooters-found it often as frustrating as fun because it was so imprecise.
