Does anyone know what these player storage lockers in stations look like? (maybe it's subscriber-only?). I haven't been able to find any. If someone has, maybe they could post a little screenshot to help me know what to look for..

Don't have a screenshot here at work, but they are on the station wall and look like a bank of 9 or 12 square doors (kinda like a fancier version modern day lockers).  it shouldn't be subscriber only as one of the sub perks is a bigger storage locker.

Make sure you sit through the credits- there's more actual gameplay right afterwards.

Some of the survival moments were irritating and were what added to the playtime, especially reloading with the checkpoint save system- between a few of them it added about a half hour onto my playtime.  still, most checkpoints were fairly close.

It was nice they ddin't cheese out with gimmicky weapons or enemies.

I couldn't map anything to the number pad.  I swear I could do so in the demo, but this time around I couldn't.  It kinda screwed with my normal FPS setup as I'm used to using the arrow keys and mapping all the important keys around them.

You've made the right call, my friend. Relax, focus on the family, then when things are better off strike back at the test with a vengeance.

yeah, the play times include dying and reloading.  Started on regular at 11:15 pm, finished at 3:50am.  Not a bad game for 10 bucks-  I think they need to cut out the other studio that's been working on CoD and let Infinity Ward do the games even if it means they take a couple of years between releases.

But doesn't veteran just mean you will die more and it will take longer/more damage to kill the baddies?   It's not like the campaign will have more content.  I don't get it.

well, in the demo you had to play more carefully- run and gun didn't work too well.  you do have a point though- they really need to say if the length was from reloading constantly or needing different strategies.

it'll be 5 in the main series, but somehow I don't see it being a 2008 game....

Weren't they saying (maybe it was Kathode) that they were going to get a couple of games out of the current engine? Whatever the case, an Oblivion II without the scaling would make me extremely happy.
I'm more thinking about Fallout 3 supposedly being a 2008 game and Bethesda not wanting to put 2 major releases up against each other.

hehe, I typed up my post late last night when there were only llike 12 posts in the thread at the time...and most of those posts were whining about the length of the game and implying that it had no replay value

Personally, I don't play mp, for a large variety of reasons.  I generally don't have issue with a 7-8 hour game that is excellently crafted (many of my favorite games are like that) but I do have to say that I'm concerned with decreasing game length more than that.  5-6 hours is really pushing it IMO.  I have more than enough on my gaming plate that I don't need games to arbitrarily extend their length or anything but the flip side is that $60.00 is a lot of money for only five or six hours of play.

so when you play SP games, do you ever like to collect and do extra stuff?  like for example, when you play R&C Future and Resistance, did you do any of the extra Skill Points and intel docs and collectables at all?

if not, then ok...CoD4 might be only 5 hours (at default Regular difficulty anyway, which as I said is pretty easy IMO).  and if you just run straight ahead constantly never looking at anything else.  but if you do like all those things in R&C and Resistance, then CoD4's SP has the same type of stuff.  which can definitely extend the experience multiple hours

do any of the collectables in CoD4 give gameplay a different feel other than 'OMG! I found Osama's baby shoes!  I RULEZ!!!'?  if they unlocked different side missions then I'd be all for finding them, but if it's just 'achievements' then I don't see much point to it, but then again I'm not an achievment glutton.

Also, after learning that CoD4's campaign is apparently very short short (5 hours!?!), another trend that comes to mind which you can find commonly in 360 games is a gimped SP and heavy emphasis on MP.

You realize CoD4 is on PS3 and PC as well?

gellar

Right, but it's something common in many of the 360's games, and considering probably 75% of the game's sales will be on the 360 platform, you can see why the development team took the direction that it did.

the first CoD (also done by the same group) was PC only and just as short, so I don't think the 360 had much influence on how they make their games.   I hear it also had a very nice MP portion.

That's insane.  This just changed to a do not buy for me.  At least until it's $19.99.

from IGN:

Quote
Rounding out COD4's very short list of complaints is the campaign length. On Regular difficulty, you can probably beat COD4 in 5-6 hours. As you move up towards Veteran (which really separates the men from the Marines), the completion time can get closer to 8-9 hours. Still, it's a very brief experience. At least it's a great one. Once you beat COD4, you unlock Arcade Mode. This allows you to replay the entire campaign or individual levels with arcade-style rules. You'll have a set number of lives and earn points for different types of kills. And, of course, there is always the multiplayer.

ok, 8-9 hours isn't too bad, as long as Veteran is available from the get go.
