I must have that book...

The cover reminds me of Syd Mead's work, I wonder if he was contracted to the concept art at some point.

That image reminds me a lot of Ralph McQuarrie's work on the original Star Wars trilogy.

that's what I was thinking but I couldn't put my finger on where it was from.

I just recently cancelled my Gametap subscription due to not using it for a few months, but Psychonauts was a good game, and Project Eden had possibilities.  Both are under the Windows games section.

Did you finish The Witcher, CK?

Overall, everything considered, what would you score it on a 1-10 scale?

yeah, I finished it the day before AC came out.  Overall I'd give it a 9 for a great story, awesome graphics and fun combat, with the point being taken off for loading times.  Of course your experience may vary- I only had 3 crashes but some people haven't had such a smooth run with it.

Maybe they'll actually put in an ending this time around.

I blame Halo 2 for that.  A big name game pulling the 'no actual ending' crap and still selling millions let other publishers get away with it.  I haven't finished the SP portion of Vegas yet, so maybe by the time I do I won't have to wait as long.

I poured about 8 hours or so into the first two assassinations-climbing everywhere, aggressively going after flags, searching every nook and cranny, looking for Templars everywhere and hunting them down-and when I actually got into the cities and started doing some of my tasks-frankly, I was bored already.

this is where not being a completist is paying off for me.  If I find a Templar I'll whack him (too bad you can't trample them to death with your horse) or a flag I'll pick it up but I'm not going out of my way to do so, but I'm focusing on the main quest so everything is moving at a good pace.

Also, the game doesn't model positional damage so the key is just shooting *any* part of someone.

Yeah, I noticed that.  Good thing they are fixing the game quickly.

I'll need to pop in this weekend and see if the patch helped at all.

I found out that the sniper rifle has two levels of zoom. Hold LT to use the standard zoom you get on all weapons, and then push in the right thumbstick to get the second level. It seems to stabilize the drift a bit as well.

And personally, I think they got the sniper rifle spot on - it's supposed to be next to useless at close range. You can't fire at all from the hip (as in real life), and if they get too close, you'll zoom right past them. That said - it's VERY powerful at long range engagements (like against other snipers or rocket troops). Normally it's a one shot kill.

I didn't realize there was a second level- that may make it a bit easier to use.  the first level weaves around too much and there's no way to stabilize it like holding your breath or even setting it down on cover.

i loved it too, and yeah, i'm disappointed we'll never get the rest of the story.

I ran into my first difficult combat tonight- it was only 2 guys but for some reason they kept on kicking my arse, and I'm still early in the game.  They made the sniper rifle a bit too difficult to use, especially since it is  the Infiltrator class' primary weapon.

well, I finished tonight.   The last couple of levels become stupid hard, like getting killed in 2 shots from some shotgun on normal, and you're facing a ton of guys with those shotguns.  I don't know what it is about the SoF games where they devs decide to ramp up the difficulty to beyond insane in the endgame.

oh, and the ending suffers from Halo 2 syndrome.
