Well, I moved from the composite connection back to component, but I still have the display set to TV not HDTV.  I just played several rounds of GoW no problem, so it may actually be my cables.  Looks like I'm going to have to dish out 40 bucks to find out though-  none of my friends has a 360 yet.

sorry if this has been posted already.  I was having freezing issues with my graphics going all screwy or the screen just going black to the point I couldn't even get the dashboard to finish loading.  I was fiddling around with everything when it occurred to me to try switching over to the composite cables, which I did.  Switched the AV cable to TV and unplugged the component and moved everything over to composite.  Turned on the system and everything came up just fine.  Loaded up Gears of War and was actually able to play.  So I'm curious: everyone who is having freezing problems, under 'system'==>'console settings'==>Display' are you using the HD Display modes or is there anyone with their display settings set to TV?  If you're using HD does switching back like I did to TV help?

For those of you who have gotten your console die, what settings where you using when it did?  I wonder if the issue is in the cable MS supplied for the component connection.   Hopefully this all makes sense....

I picked up Cars this afternoon.  I got it at Best Buy and it came with a neat little poster that my son is going to love in his room.  I saw all but the last 20 minutes of it so I'm looking forward to watching the end. (My son peed on my lap at the theater and he wanted to leave after getting him cleaned up.  I'm not sure how it slipped past the diaper but when the warm hit my lap, and I was disappointed to find out it wasn't a fart, the movie was done for us.  )

Apparently Boston is getting the shaft.  Called a bunch of EBs/Gamestops in the metro area, and all of them are saying tomorrow.

Sadly, I know of no quick cure other than rest.  I plan on getting alot of vitamin C too, and maybe a quart of chicken soup from a local chinese restaurant (great noodles!).

Got the call from EB that my copy will be ready for pick up this afternoon.  Sweet!  Emergence Day has arrived.  Haven't been this excited about a game since I don't know when.  THIS is why I bought a 360!

I got the same call, but talking to the store today brought a different answer.  They're holding fast to the midnight opening or tomorrow deal.  Though they're not even sure about being open at midnight still(?!).  She was talking like tomorrow's the release date.

The whole "matchmaking is broken" thing sucks.  You can't join ranked games with friends.  How absolutely retarded is that?  Talk about a letdown!

It's a way to prevent a bunch of friends starting a ranked game and letting people intentionally get points to raise their ranking.  Still, suckes you can't play on the same side.

It just occurred to me that the addiditonal HD space could be considered the Zune.  This will probably just be an extension of that and you'll be able to move them over.

You know, console makers should just start putting the initial run of their consoles on eBay since that's where alot of them end up anyways.  That way they could make alot more money before releasing them to the public for general sale.  It's already proven that people will bid for them (like the 360 and now the PS3).

That way people can bitch about Sony or MS auctioning stuff instead of each other.

If so, is it good for games? Up until this point I had thought it was just another version of Windows XP with more media features, but after checking out a couple reviews of it I'm a little worried, one review even saying you coudn't browse the web on it since it was meant for a "den setup".

The computer I'm looking at getting this friday - a Gateway Core 2 Duo with 2gb ram, 256mb video card and 320gb hard drive (they are advertising it as "Gaming PC!" in Comp USA) comes with Windows Media Center 2005.

Can anyone confirm it plays games just like XP? I don't want to spend $500 and then not even be able to do anything with it except watch movies..

Uh....I run media center - its Windows XP with an extra function that I hardly ever use.  Seriously...its XP unless you go Start -> Programs -> accessories -> Media Center.  Don't worry.

+1.  No difference, I've even run the XP nvidia drivers when the official Media Center ones are a version behind.

heh, well my self imposed rule for a PS3 is that there must be at least 5 exclusive titles released on the PS3 that I'm interested in for me to fork over the money.  So far there is zero in the launch window.  Same deal with the Wii, and right now there is only 1 must have (Zelda).

So, after grabbing this at the midnight release, I can officially say that I have... about 2 hours of playtime....  too many games <insert head 'sploding smilie here>.

Unless you want to play Resistance REALLY REALLY bad I don't see why you would purchase a PS3 over a 360 this holiday season.  I know quite a few people who have preordered a PS3, including one guy who has 4 preordered.  Everyone I know is selling them on Ebay.  I kind of wish at least one person were actually going to keep it so I could see it in action. 

I am also a little bit skeptical about the supposed huge demand that will be on Ebay for PS3s.  Unlike last year with the 360, there are 2 other Next Gen consoles available.  I just can't see people paying huge prices for the PS3. I guess we'll see next week.

<sigh> Denog, they are paying $1500.00 + for preorders, do ya really think thats gonna go down when the release hype machine takes off and the media starts talking about this thing? If I get $1,000.00 for mine its a success, but I think potentially some people could get $2,000.00, when people get them in hand.

yeah, if you run a search for PS3 on ebay you'll find a list of auctions for it.  Granted, some of them have 0 bids and I'm sure some of them are people fucking around and killing auctions but bidding outrageously high with no intention of paying.  I'd wait and let the early adopters beta test the new hardware before buying.

Picked up Double Agent for the 360 on Saturday and that's all I really played.  Also had an encounter with the 3/4 Red Lights on Saturday night but everything seems to be running fine now.  I also fuinally got in the 'zone' on the Rainbow Six demo.

Ya the range is only 30 feet.....I am sorry 30 ft isn't that bad.....  It isn't like I am running around trying to talk to people or siting a hell of a long way from my TV.  Ya if you run to the fridge or to the bathroom you will probably run out of range, I don't know about you, but I don't want to talk to people while I am in the bathroom. 

30 feet ain't bad at all.  heh, the way my place is setup I can sit on the toilet and comfortably see the TV through the bathroom door, and that's within 30 feet.  Even the controller works from there 

I saw a video review from one of the guys at CAG on youtube.  Beyond not having wires it didn't sound like he didin't sound very impressed, plus he had issues with the range.
