I'm down on Austin (gag, vomit), Sorry, it had to be done Looks like eBay auctions are being relatively reasonable. I saw one that ended at 315.00 plus 30.00 shipping last night.

As much as I'm looking forward to Vista, I don't think I'll be doing an upgrade. I will probably be getting a new computer instead.
Same here. Running an AMD 3.2, 1G RAM, an AGP motherboard and a non-DX10 card, it doesn't make much sense to try to upgrade. In 6 months, for around $1000, I should be able to buy a decent new gaming rig with dual-core processors, a DX10 card and a PCI-E slot (and 2G RAM). ditto that, except I'm currently looking at one for $2500 through ibuypower in the next month or so. I priced the parts out through New Egg and it would be pretty close to the same price if I bought the parts seperately. I'm also splurging on a few parts (quad core/SLI capable MB, 1100 watt power supply) so I can actually upgrade this PC unlike the one I bought about 2 years ago. I figure it will hopefully be enough to avoid doing any major overhauls for the next 3 years. I just bought a new PC through velocity micro. I was ready to buy it through ibuypower, and then I read the reviews for the company. I'll just say, they don't seem to be a good company. I just did some looking into ibuypower and the reviews turned me off. I may end up going with ABS now which will save me 100 dollars (no 1100 watt PS though). Yeah but can your light bulbs do SLI? I thought not.
Actualy it would have been quad SLI

my favorite under-rated ps2 game would be mark of kri - very pretty, great music/narration, very cool & unusual combat system, interesting stealth elements. one of the first ps2 games i played, & it looks as good now as it did then (never got around to the sequel - maybe i should?)...
I just found a used copy of that last week. I'd never played it but I'd heard it was great. I haven't even started it up yet. you got lucky - not very easy to find anymore. enjoy... My local EB had a few copies of Mark of Kri today. I looked it up on IGN and it's looks neat, I may be grabbing it tomorrow (and maybe the sequel too if they have it). let me know if they are real cheap CK, that game looks cool. The Mark of Kri was around 9 bucks. I'm not sure if they had Rise of the Kasai- the name looked very familiar when I looked it up so they may have had it.

why would people want the smaller HD version? Cuz it's cheaper? Is that it or am I missing something else between the two?
This is purely anecdotal, but for me personally and many of my friends, the 20gig is the no brainer if, and only if, you don't care about wireless out of the box. I personally could care less, as the router is in my game/tv room. So strike that, then the 20 gig. Right now, its kinda like the 360 HDD-unless you are downloading copious amounts of stuff, its more than sufficient for your games-add to that the fact that you can easily buy a stock HDD (probably a 120 gig for like 40 bucks) and get double the size for less-and for me its pretty much a no-brainer. Yep... like I've said in the past: if you don't need the built in wireless, you'd be stupid NOT to get the 20 gig version. gellar oddly enough it seems that no EB/Gamestop B & M is carrying the 20 gig version in stock.

I have a question. Why do hobbits cry all the time? That just nearly ruined the movies for me. Ah yes, and the hobbits are crying. I just wanted to punch them.
Because hobbits are all closet homosexuals? Personally, I can't stand hobbits, they nearly ruined LoTR movies for me. I have to agree. The Hobbits were the low part of the movies for me.

I just had my first BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH in Vista! Pretty excitng....I was attepting to play Gothic 3 and while it was loading into the world *BAM* *BOOM* *CRASH* Display Driver Error. The O/S then tells me that the driver was able to recover (hah, right) but of course it didn't and whenever I tried to do anything weird graphical errors would appear on my desktop, then go away and that would trigger the whole "Display Driver Error....recover....etc". It kept doing that over and over until I got sick of it and I tried to shut down.....then I was greeted with the momentous first appearance of the BSOD, exactly like I used to get in Win95 all the time! Hurray for progress! hetz, check out this thread on the Jowood Gothic 3 forums for issues with running Gothic 3 under Vista.

15% + sales tax rates? and people complain about the 6.75% we have here. Does that mean you guys pay less income taxes (or whatever the equivalent of those would be up there/over the pond)?

I was suprised at how good the graphics were on my poor machine, P$ 2.8 Ghz, 1GB RAM, x800. I think it looks better then EQ2. Now next week, when I receive my new computer (E6400, 2 GB RAM, 8800GTS), it will be on!
good to hear that! I'm currently running a slightly more powerful rig than you are (3.2 Ghz, 2 GB RAM but only a 6800) and I was worried about having issues getting stuff to look nice. Ironically enough at the end of next month I should be upgrading my PC to just about the same specs you listed, although I'm considering splurging on a quad core....

Does Vista actually ship with DirectX10? I remember hearing it was being delayed a little while back but I never found out if that rumour was true or not. Also, I'm getting a rig in about a month or so. it'd be nice if you guys could work out the bugs by then. KTHXBYE!

probably a light gaming weekend for me, maybe some Vegas or GoW MP tonight. I picked up the Alias 5 season boxed set (the one that looks like the Rambaldi(sp?) cube from the show) for $100 bucks used yesterday so I plan on watching alot of that. Isn't the Rimbaldi box the entire series, not just season 5? He said 5 season box set not season 5 box set. yeah, it's all 5 seasons plus a hidden disc that I almost missed. what' crazy is that there were selling the first 3 seasons in a box set for 40 bucks more, and that set was used too.

Greta idea! I'm thinking about getting back into MMO's so it looks like it'll be a good source on what's what. Just out of curiosity, is there an actual link to the blog on the front page, or do people who don't know about it have to rely on finding this post or the news article?

This game just looks weird. What niche in the crowded and WoW dominated MMO market is this supposed to fill? personally I'm looking forward to their 'Real Combat': So what is "Real Combat"? This is our revolutionary multi point melee system. This unique aspect of this system is that you swing your weapon where you direct it. This system will let the players direct, and combine, the swings of their weapon to create fancy, brutal and effective slashes and thrusts, or combine them in combos or special attacks that do additional damage. You should really "feel" the power of your character when you fight, feel the power of each and every blow.
"Real Combat" is easy to learn, and allows for a very different experience to both the slow studious nature of RPG combat and the 'twitch' nature of a first person shooter. When you pick it up the first time you might not even notice it as you happily slash and thrust away. With experience you might see certain attacks swinging better together. As you learn to string it into combos you become a dancing machine of brutal death. The same multipoint system is true for ranged combat and spell casting. In both cases the Real Combat engine allows you to string hits or spells together to form new fantastic effects.
The Real Combat will also work with mounted combat.
