Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire Quest Help Thread-Spoilers!!!!

I haven't read through this whole thread, so pardon me if this has been mentioned before but...
I'm having some issues where I complete a quest and it indicates at the top of the screen that I've gained some experience points, but when I go to the character screen, no experience points have been allocated. This just recently happened to me during the "arguing sisters" encounter.
Edit: I just reloaded to right before that section, and I figured out that if I go to the character screen immediately after the experience is allocated, it's there waiting for me. However, if I allow the game to auto-load the next scene (placing me in front of the asylum), I only get 1 instead of 3 exp. points. Bizarre.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [P]Global Test
|
on: October 25, 2004, 03:46:27 PM

I'm sick of this crap. The Bush administration is outright lying when they talk about Kerry's "Global Test" comment and they know it. Here is what Kerry said: No president, through all of American history, has ever ceded, and nor would I, the right to preempt in any way necessary to protect the United States of America. But if and when you do it, Jim, you've got to do in a way that passes the test—that passes the global test—where your countrymen, your people understand fully why you're doing what you're doing, and you can prove to the world that you did it for legitimate reasons. Wow, imagine that: if we go to war, we should be able to demonstrate that it's for legitimate reasons! What a concept! And here is how Bush has distorted it to conform to his bravado image: He said that America has to pass a global test before we can use American troops to defend ourselves. That's what he said. Think about this. Sen. Kerry's approach to foreign policy would give foreign governments veto power over our national security decisions. I have a different view. When our country is in danger, the president's job is not to take an international poll. The president's job is to defend America. I'll continue to work every day with our friends and allies for the sake of freedom and peace. But our national security decisions will be made in the Oval Office, not in foreign capitals.
Ugh. /rant off

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [xbox] Return of Wednesday racing?

Sorry we lost you, Rob. Jancelot, Simon and lildrgn all stopped by at one point or anther and we had some really tight races. After losing first place at the last second on two separate occasions, I would like to declare myself the official GG PGR2 choker. The worst was going around that last curve screaming, "I shall have the glory of first place!" only to see Driver nose past me at the last possible moment. The standings confirmed my shame: I choked and lost by .1 seconds. In any case, I'm up for racing again soon (and yes, Driver, I have Paris & Long Beach ). Anyone free this weekend?

I am tempted to bring my digital camera in order to allow for the posting of embarrasing photographs come Friday.
BTW, if rrmorton doesn't make it, he's a doo-doo head.
(yes, I understand that Rob's in NYC, but this just emphasizes how much of an effort he would have to make in order to prevent me from considering him a doo-doo head).

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [P] Kerry documentry before the election
|

They offered Kerry equal time to come on after the movie to rebute it. That is all they have to do. Kerry's decision not to is his own stupid fault. If hypothetically, a documentary aired on Bush's cocaine-using, drunk-driving, draft-dodgling past, do you think he'd want to come on afterwards to rebute it? The mere presence of a candidate attempting to refute the "facts" of the documentary provides an air of legitimacy to the charges and casts the candidate in a defensive light.

Capt. Caveman, I've gotten to hear a couple Bobby Bare Jr. tracks now, and I'm kinda digging them. I definitely like it better than when he was going for a hard rock sound. "Strange Bird" and "Your Favorite Hat" are the tracks, I believe. How are those songs in relation tot he rest of the record? They are a good representation of the sound of the rest of the album, but definitely not my favorite tracks. If you like them, though, I'm pretty certain you'll love the entire disc.... I assume by "hard rock sound" you are referring to his band, Bare Jr.? As you probably gathered from the sampler, the songs on his two solo albums are very different in sound. They focus much more on a more stripped down rootsy sound that better showcase his unique songwriting skill. rrmorton Posted: Wed Oct 13, 2004 12:49 am Post subject:

Cool! Which album(s) did you end up getting? I went with your recommendation and got "Out of Tune". I'm liking it so much, though, that I'm sure I'll be picking up their other albums soon.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / R&P Decision

Well, I can't say I'm not disappointed, but like many have said, this is your site to do with how you wish, and I thank you for considering the requested changes.
I think I speak for a lot of R&P posters/lurkers when I say that my biggest concern is losing access to a community that I greatly valued. Of course it's not your obligation to establish such a residency in the wake of GG's apparent demise, but for most of us, CG appeared to be our best chance to continue our little world with the community in tact.

My occasional trips to the GG forum became much more frequent when I realized that this community was more substanitive than any other I had encountered on the net. Soon, GG was the first place I turned to share my thoughts, exchange ideas, and discuss current events. Like any group of friends, we talked about all sorts of things: games, girls, movies, and yes, politics. I understand that CG is different than GG and is allowed to dictate how the forums are created and conducted. All I can do is make it known that I found the R&P forum on GG to be, for the most part, civil, mature and informative, and I'd love to continue that relationship here. If, God forbid, something like 9/11 ever happened again, I would hope that I could turn to this community I value and trust to come to terms with the event. It would seem kinda strange to me to have a gathering place for a group of friends like this and not be able to talk about some of the most salient issues of the day. But then again, not my decision.

I agree with the all the sentiments here that the CG staff has been extremely hospitable and welcoming.
I would just like to say for the record that would miss R&P if it weren't allowed here. The argument that there are plenty of other places on the net to discuss politics doesn't really hold water with me, because it wasn't simply the political topics that I found interesting, but rather it was the opinions of this specific collection of people that drew me in. GG had a strong community (as CG does now) of amazing and diverse individuals, and the assembly of these various persepectives led to some very enlightening discussions in the R&P forum. Believe it or not, some of these discussions have honed my thinking about certain issues, challenged me to think more critically, and helped me come to understand that others can hold opinions that are simultaneously very different yet still equally as valid as my own. I respect the thoughts of many of my fellow GGers, and it'd be a shame if I lost access to their perspectives on more serious topics.

Oh, and Captain Caveman, do you have this? Guess who finally does after much 'net spelunking? Funny you should mention it... During my usual net sleuthing, I discovered this fine item just a few days ago. Unfortunately, I was unable to acquire said item due to its owner leaving my presence before I could obtain it. I did, however, get a collection of Ryan Adam's early recordings. Rough quality stuff, but still quite good. How's the Lazy Stars material?

Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but I found many threads in the R&P forum at GG to be quite mature and intellectually stimulating. I have great respect for the articulate and intelligent musings of many of GG's regular posters, and I'd hate to lose access to that.
Of course, I understand it's not my decision...

"Kate Botello, Hot Or Not" may have been the time I laughed the hardest at GG. I've never really watched Tech TV, and had no idea who the heck she was, but the rapidfire responses of Morton (pro-hot) and Simon (con-hot) were amazingly funny. I present to you, the archive of that thread http://mywebpages.comcast.net/rcmerritt/GGarchive/kate/KateBotellolovers_page1.htm(fyi except for the page numbers, nothing else works.) My God, that was excellent. More than just comedy gold, that was comedy heaven. Bravo guys, bravo!
