Well I guess I will have to change my vote as I ended up flipping mine for $220 in profit. While I like the sound of being able to buy a new one for about half price, overall I'm sad because I bought it to play it not flip it but ever since our baby was born I just do not have any free times to play games at all. I could just go out and rebuy it but now that I've sold it I feel like I've gone past a certain point and I'm much less likely to buy again. That makes me sad.

So yes, it's pretty foolish not to get PS Plus, *especially* if you're on a budget! I don't buy games anymore. PS Plus has saved me so much money.

I picked up two $30 PS plus codes from Amazon. How awesome is that? I'm topped up until midway through 2016. By the way the PS plus codes also work for Canadian accounts.

Something we realized while playing last night - you can't talk about the xbox while playing the xbox, because it keeps bringing up the menus smile

So we need to come up with an appropriate code word for the xbox. Something along the lines of "sham-boogie" or "sleestak" might work.

I suggest we pick one of these:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Father of Lies
Sightblinder
Lord of the Grave
Lord of the Twilight
Shepherd of the Night
Heartsbane
Soulsbane
Ba'alzamon
Heartfang
Old Grim
Grassburner
Leafblighter
Father of Storms
Caisen Hob or "Old Hob"
Lighteater

slywink

How about 'Boner? As in," Hey, what do you think of my 'Boner?"
"Looks great, do you mind if I play with it for a while?"

It sounds like you don't get banned for for swearing on Skype but if you're Gold account gets banned as a result of swearing then you can no longer use Skype as it requires Xbox Live Gold. All the more reason not to have all of your apps behind a paywall.

I will say the controller was AWESOME. Like the 360 but the sticks feel way better. Why oh why can't Sony give up the horrifically bad Dualshock design?! I am still yet to see a playable demo for either system anywhere, so I still haven't had a chance to hold the DS4.

If you had, you would know that they DID give up on the horrifically bad Dualshock design. The PS4 controller is excellent.

They still have the left stick in the position that is not my personal preference so I remain skeptical, but I would like to pick one up and feel it for myself.
Fixed that for you. Essentially, the controller difference is down to personal preference now.
88  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Re: Did you change your allegiance? on: November 25, 2013, 03:16:48 PM
I'm still with Sony. I would love to have two consoles (or more!) but at this stage in my life that's just not possible. I don't have time for even one and I don't think my wife would forgive me for getting another one.
Anyways I was pretty satisfied with Sony's exclusives last gen and MS and I did not get off to a great start this gen with their initial plans for all video gamers. That combined with the fact that I don't find the Kinect or TV aspect at all compelling and the $100 price difference and the overall (if slight) power advantage and my personal belief that this gen the PS4 will be the lead platform for most games means that I'm sticking with Sony.
That said, if you have the means and opportunity to get both consoles then by all means that's the best thing to do.
89  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Re: Xbox One Discussion on: November 25, 2013, 03:07:34 PM
At the risk of being abused for posting negative xbox information, I'm going to leave this right here. It seems fairly significant if you are living in Europe (or just the UK?) I'm not familiar with this sort of thing so perhaps a fix is fairly easy to implement but if it is true then it really makes you facepalm. This type of North American-centric thinking seems pretty representative of the problems MS has had in the past (huge controllers and consoles in Japan) and possibly in the future with the Xbox One.

Ok this is the final poll! It should allow you to pick as many options as you please and you can also go back update should you decide to add a device in one month or 3. I'll add an "other" option in case you're planning on doing your gaming on an Ouya or something like that. This is a poll for "Next Gen" (hereafter known as current gen) so if you're not planning on upgrading then you're in the wrong poll!
Also, to keep fanboyism/defensiveness to a medium let's keep the comments as to why you bought this console or why you didn't buy that console out of this thread. This thread is bringing results only!

For people with both, I'll be interested to hear feedback on how the booting, installing and loading are on each console. This article was interesting but it only tested one game. It looks like the PS4 coldboots significantly faster than the Xbox but I doubt that will be much of a factor because if most people are like me then their console has been sitting in standby mode while off for about the past 3 years at least. NBA 2k14 installed about 6 minutes faster on the PS4. Time to trot out the "just make a sandwich" retort again!

A dawn of a new age is upon us! I guess we'll go with the 360 since that was released first. In November of 2005 I had just turned 26 and had been living in Japan for about about 7 months of my planned one year stay in Japan. I was living with my company assigned roommate who has since passed on this spring. I wasn't married and I certainly didn't have any kids (one born this September). I was in normal shape for a 26 year old but I think now I'm about 7 or 8 kg heavier at least!
107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 24 hours until Xbone. Which system are you getting? on: November 21, 2013, 12:21:01 PM
It may be a moot point but I'm wondering whether or not the Xbox will be DOA in Japan.  They've been pummeled for the past two generations, even when MS went above and beyond the call with the 360.  The 360 had a significant headstart on the PS3 and some fairly Japanese friendly games (Blue Dragon anyone?). Do we know when the Xbox is being released in Japan other than "2014"?  The PS4 will probably have the headstart this go around and will definitely have the homefield advantage.  Also MS has yet to learn some important lessons for the Japanese market. For one, they don't like humongous boxes.  The PS3 was fairly large last gen but I think the Xbox One has it beat and the competition this time will be much smaller and more suitable for a cramped entertainment space. Secondly, Kinect still requires a relatively large amount of space in order to work. It's better than last time but multiplayer still needs 6 ft of space for multiplayer. Japanese living rooms are small, small, small so that could be a problem. Thirdly, I have some doubts about how the Xbox One's media capibilities will be when it comes to Japanese TV and whatnot. Perhaps MS can get some kind of deals with the big media companies in Japan but I have my doubts. I wonder what the long term effect will be. Obviously the big name games (Resident Evil, MGS, etc) will still be produced for both consoles but what about the lesser known quirky Japanese games? Perhaps the PS4 will be the system you need if you are interested in playing those?

The other item was the voice controls.  YK posted two videos clearly showing them work, and work well.

Multiple reviews claim otherwise.

So I'm to trust a written review over what I see with my own eyes in video?

Obviously it's dependent on the user. It will work better for some and not for others. The IGN video showed that it worked horribly.  And by horribly I mean it worked about 75% of the time. Perhaps he was running his words together but it sounded perfectly natural to me. If I'm talking to my console then I don't want to speak to it as if I'm some sort of elocution coach. Yes I don't understand why you're being defensive either. I don't think anyone has spared Sony. Tons of people said that they wouldn't get the PS4 if it didn't have local streaming which as an extremely valid point.
Also, why are you expecting congratulations for good reviews? Did you make the game?

Yeah, there are some people here that are VERY defensive over the XB1. I don't blame them, I'd be defensive as well and was when the shoe was on the other foot when they were kicking the PS3 all around this forum. It's kind of amusing seeing the Xbox crowd on the defensive after all the aggressive trash talking last generation. What goes around, comes around.

It's all good though. I may even get an XB1 tomorrow night. LOL....it's mine if I want it. I still don't know. It depends on Ryse reviews.

I bought both consoles back then, and I bought both this time around.  I'm not being defensive.  I'm calling people out on pure out TROLLING against the Bone these past months.  Twice today already the bandwagon jumped out of their collective pajamas on two stories that turned out to be false or totally misleading.

Edit to add:  I'm hopeful on Ryse.   The Forza reviews are positive over all, and apparently the graphics are stupid pretty.

I'm not sure that it's trolling. Are they lying? Someone posted a link to the Microsoft support page that stated specifically that it did not support surround sound. Is it their fault that MS did a 180 on so much stuff that they weren't able to update all the things they changed?  I'm not sure what the second story is so I can't comment about it.  I would have to say that Sony's shit gets posted about as often as Xboxs shit but is it their fault that MS has so much more to post about? Currently, looking at Google news, both products seem to be getting equally as warm of a reception as the other. There's no conspiracy here.

Saw a Bone display model on the way home tonight, and it was sexy as hell.    The design is very modern and simple.   It was also smaller than I was led to believe by the internet lynch mob.

Now I know you're smoking something. The Bone is a HUGE square box with very little design in it. Heck it looks like someone took an old desktop computer that was designed to have the monitor sit on top of it and painted it black then threw an Xbox symbol on the side. What exactly is sexy about that?

Edited to add that I couldn't care less what the machines look like, but to say it looks sexy and modern is just crazy.

I've said since the reveals that I loved the Bone design.   I never have been into Sony's style of making their consoles look oblong or oddly shaped.   The Bone is very elegant now that I've seen one in person.
I respect MSD's right to think that the Xbone is sexy. That is a subjective quality after all. Most of us and practically all of the reviews I have read would respectfully disagree however. On the other hand, who spends time looking at their console? I can barely recall what my PS3 looks like.
117  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Re: 2 Days until Xbone. Which system are you getting? on: November 20, 2013, 11:11:35 PM
I also find it odd that (not necessarily on this forum, but on the internets in general) fans of xbox have gone from "yeah I have a PS3-i mean Netflix machine-but it's all about the games man. GAMES GAMES GAMES! If I want to watch a movie I'll turn on my PS3" to "It's all about the media capabilities man. All the PS4 can do is play games. It's basically a PS 3.5."
The reversal of opinion is intriguing.

Yeah I did the same thing. This seems to be the standard Xbone defense these days.  saywhat

And the Xbone requires no defense.   Look at the reviews:   The Bone is scoring equal or even a notch higher on every review I've read.

seeing the ign raw video makes me a bit bummed.  the voice commands don't appear to work any better than they did in Kinect 1.0.  in fact, it felt pretty much exactly what I remember with Kinect 1.0.  it seems like half of the time, the commands need to be repeated.

From what I'm reading, there's a learning curve in figuring out how the Kinect wants to hear commands. If you just say "XboxForzaMotorsport5" it's not going to work and you're going to think it's non-responsive. You have to do a short pause after the Xbox to notify the unit you're about to issue the command. The IGN guy was running his words together quite often when it didn't respond. (Though I was surprised that even when he was running his words together it was still able to understand him quite often).

If you watch the video there were several times where the dude just wasn't using the right command. (For instance, saying "Xbox what's on MTV" before doing a Select).

Now I don't believe for a second that voice recognition is 100% perfect on the thing, but it is a machine and you can't blame it for not interpreting your intentions.
I'm not sure I agree with you unless by "running his words together" you mean "speaking naturally". As one review already mentioned you feel idiotic enough talking to your electronics, never mind having to do it slowly and clearly.
