I'm thinking about it. It's a Slitherine/Matrix game so you can feel fairly confident about buying it and not finding that it's on sale for half price the next month.
83  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Re: Qvadriga - Roman Chariot Racer Simulator on: June 14, 2014, 08:58:09 AM
You'll have to register your key with Slitherine and they'll give you a Steam key.

Not bad. Has it really been 20 years? That means I was 14 for the original. At 34 it's not quite the same.

There's some cussing, but nowhere near as bad and often as the GTA series.  I haven't seen anything regarding sex, other than some descriptions when you profile someone.  I heard you can spy on someone having sex but don't see anything.
Gratuitous violence and murder but no sex? America is going to love this game!

Oh and the review embargo being until release portends bad things.  Probably going to score high 70s.
I'm guessing, the game is good but the hacking is rinse and repeat and the game runs like crap. Hence the embargo.

Interesting. Problem being is that you can't expect that extra processing power to be available to use in the first place. And people might be rather upset that the console without Kinect would get extra FPS/graphical details because they have the power to spare.
This is what I'm wondering. What a middle finger it would be to the first adopters to end up having a less powerful console than everyone who was smart enough to wait.
97  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Re: [E3 2012] Watch Dogs on: May 13, 2014, 10:29:54 PM
An article on Forbes States that the PS4 will run at 900p and the Xbone will run at 792p. Both at 30fps. Oops.
98  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Re: Xbox One Discussion on: May 13, 2014, 11:31:49 AM
I think the real reason is not because you can get Netflix on your toaster these days but because a particular toaster  called the PS4 is outselling the Xbox one by a wide margin.

100  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: May 11, 2014, 03:02:31 PM
I think it's pretty obvious that the PS4 will have the best graphics. The real question is is there enough of a disparity that people can actually tell a difference? Probably not.

104  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / What's the word? on: May 01, 2014, 01:51:54 PM
I can't think of a word and it's killing me. I suppose it happens to all of us from time to time but I feel like after living in Japan for 9 years I'm losing some of my vocabulary.
Anyways, the word is a verb and it's often  used when an entity gains a lot of new territory. Before they can continue gaining new territory they have to process what they've taken and make sure that their gains are secure.
What's the word that I can't get?
105  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Orbis. aka PlayStation 4? The rumors are put to rest. on: May 01, 2014, 03:02:49 AM
I sometimes watch LPs on YouTube.  OneF Jef is pretty hilarious in his videos. Sometimes, especially when it comes to strategy games or simulations that take a heck of a lot of work to get into, it's far more enjoyable to watch someone else playing the game then having to go through all the hard work yourself.  Something like Assassins Creed I would never watch an LP of.

Back on topic this is one Eco post I can get behind. The guy is singlehandedly trying to start WW3. Right now he's flexing his muscle to see how far he can go before the US and the rest of Europe responds to his expansion. If he invades Ukraine in force we could be in trouble.

This doesn't even include the laundry list of things he has done to his own country to prevent Democracy and retain his power.
He certainly isn't a nice person but Russia has reasons to feel slighted. Technically the West is in his backyard, not the other way around.

My point is that all the "Titanfail" comments and "MS desperation price cuts" are just silly. The real desperation seems to be on the part of the PS4 crowd to somehow paint the XB1 (and by extension, Titanfall) as some sort of system in dire trouble, when it's clearly not. In fact, given the higher price point and limited number of markets, it's doing extremely well.

Here's a great article pointing out why sales numbers can't be taken at surface value.
It's funny, I read that article before and disagreed with almost every point.
Ironically his first point that 7 million minus 5 million doesn't make a 2 million is the most correct-it's actually much worse because the Xbox totals are only sold-in.
Anyways:
1. Regions. PS4 certainly has an advantage here but how much of a factor is it? Is releasing in Japan or all the other countries traditionally weak Xbox territory (ie all the other countries that aren't in the original 13) really going to boost their sales by that much?
2. $100 price difference.  Absolutely.
3. Production constraints. Huh? If anything this makes the numbers look worse for MS because they are absolutely not impacted. Sony on the other hand clearly are.
4. Yes, both consoles are clearly selling considerably better than last gen. That only matters though if MS is concerned with competing against the PS3. Absolute totals mean nothing - everything is relative.
5. Titanfall wasn't supposed to change the sales figures. Again, HUH? The Titanfall mantra has been all we've heard since when? August?

They also basically gave the game away for free so less impressive but still relatively impressive.

It is if you don't want to just throw money at the problem and get crappy service all around for your trouble.

What problem would that be, exactly?

Most people probably dont have companies paying for half of their cable/Internet bill. $140 a month for 12 months is a pretty significant amount in the yearly budget.
