Who in the world uses a phone to talk on anyways? smile For my next phone I would seriously consider just grabbing the LTE version of whatever the next Nexus 7 turns out to be.
82  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Re: Apple Watch on: September 10, 2014, 01:55:44 AM
They both look like you're wearing a toy watch on your wrist. We need to know more about the Apple watch. They didn't even say what the battery life is like. That tells me it needs a lot more time in the oven. Doesn't look like it can take a standard strap either. That's one reason why I didn't buy the Pebble Steel.
83  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Re: Apple Watch on: September 09, 2014, 11:59:23 PM
Very disappointing. This is Apple. It was supposed to revolutionize watches. People have been talking about it since the iPhone came about. This thing is no better than a Samsung Gear.

Sounds like some people in here have really drunk the koolaid. I haven't been following very closely. Is this going to be like the next Halo or COD or something? Not in terms of game play but in terms of being "the" game of the generation.

Never been addicted (nor smoked more than a couple) but just want to wish you the best. Maybe take up some kind of cardio exercise sport/program so that you can see the benefits for yourself? That might help keep you motivated (and blow off excess steam.)

It's fairly expensive for a iOS game. I played the WW2 version on the PC version years ago and it was a very good beers and pretzels type of war game. If you're interested in the era then this would be a great game. I'm just waiting for a few more updates and for me to do a bit more reading about WW1 before I buy it.

I use Doggcatcher on Android. I listen to Stuff You Should Know,  Dan Carlin's Hardcore History and Common Sense podcasts and a very good history of Rome podcast called The History of Rome podcast (which is about 73 hours long and covers from the beginning to the fall of the Western half of the Empire.

93  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / What do we think of this laptop? on: August 05, 2014, 09:14:34 PM
Is this a decent cheap laptop?

My sister is going to teachers college in the fall and is looking to pick up her first laptop. Knowing her, the most she'll use it for is writing papers, checking email, doing Skype with her bf in France. I suggested she focus on something that has decent RAM, a touch screen and is lightweight and has a decent battery.
I realize that the screen resolution is a bit low and we're not talking about MacBook Air weights but this computer seems decent and has a good battery life. I haven't been able to find any reviews on it though. Thoughts?

yeah, I've never understood the drive to buy a phone full price either unless you travel out of the country a lot.  Otherwise, you pay the same monthly rate I do as a subscriber but paid more for your phone.  I know it's due to the companies not wanting to cut profits though.

Actually, I use a out-of-contract phone and paying $35 per month for unlimited everything. Is that the same price as your in-contract plan?

I generally keep my phone for 3-4 years, so it balances out in about 20 months, then it's pure savings after that.
Yeah, there must be a lot of people like me who want a high end phone but want to be able to save money by not using the high cost contracts which comes with high end phones. I don't mind spending $400 for a unlocked phone if it allows me to use a service where I only have to pay $20 a month which suits my needs.

I am an Apple guy, so I am biased, but MS has a lot to learn from Apple as far as stores go. Employees needed the manager's help with the discount. The manager was busy playing Xbox and was quite annoyed that he had to help out. They were trying to get me a package deal with the warranty, case etc, which would have been cheaper, but they couldn't get it to work with the discount. Again the manager was too busy to care. I almost walked out due to him, but the employees themselves were doing everything they could to work it out and were very friendly. You could tell they were very embarrassed by the manager as well. I am going to see if I can leave store feedback somewhere.

Out of curiosity but we're you at a Microsoft Store? Sounds like someone needs to be looking for a new job.

I wonder if having the time stop every time the whistle is blow would help get rid of these delays. Of course that would make the game a lot longer. They could reduce the halves to 30 minutes to offset that.

No but they do have the power to strip legally obtained TM's whenever they want apparently. So why not benefit mankind?

And I have no delusions about Snyder, but he's clearly not greasing the right palms.

Edit: I wish Pr0ner would chime in. I think he works in the patent/trademark field.

Aren't all trademarks legally obtained though? If you're not allowed to strip a trademark then what is even the point of having a process that enables that? I'm not sure that there's anything wrong with overriding previous decisions. Everything that is illegal was once legal.

The biggest problem I have with it is that we have a branch of the government deciding what is and isn't "offensive" based on speech. If you guys so clearly want to believe in the free market then why can't the USPTO sit back and watch the trademark wither away because the American people don't buy the products it's associated with?

Why is it is so difficult to understand that this is out and out racism.  Redskin is NOT a tribal name, nor is it a person's name.  It's a racist slur.  Indians have been trying to get it banned for ages.  This isn't a new endeavor created by a "PC crowd".  If there was a team called the New York Kikes or the San Diego Tar Babies, would that be okay?

And the American people have repeatedly proven that they aren't ALWAYS going to do the right thing.  As a matter of fact, if the government DIDN'T step in from time to time, we'd still have lynchings, whites only water fountains and segregation in many areas.

1. I never denied that it's offensive or racist.

2. Lynchings, whites only water fountains, and segregation are a far cry from a corporate logo and team name. In fact they're not even in the same ball park. We're not talking about basic human rights here, what we're talking about is hurting people's feelings. It's a slippery slope when the government starts making decisions based off of hurt feelings.
I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt but the fact that Zeke agrees with you could be a hint that you might be wrong on this one. smile
