What's so bad about the second game?  Looking at Gamerankings, Gamespot basically gave the exact same score for every game and it seemed to do well enough with other reviewers as well.
5322  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xenosaga impressions on: October 14, 2006, 12:23:22 AM
What do you think about the Xenosaga series?  I've owned the first game for at least 3 damned years and the furthest I've gotten in it is 1h 27m!!  Last night I got inspired to play through it again and beat it this time.  I'm still in the tutorial but I'm hoping that I'll like it enough to go out and get the next two in the series.  For those of you that have played, what do you think?  I love the idea of a continuous story over three chapters, a trilogy if you will.  I know there are some long cutscenes but that doesn't really bother me as long as the story is good.

Well, I am interested to see what MS does with the live service after this comes out.  I wonder if they will make live free and or with this new update that happens next tuesday, what Cool things they will add.

Not a chance, M$ is making to much $$$ from that service.

Really? I don't know about that.  I mean that only amounts to $4 per month per user.  They're basically providing the same service as companies like Blizzard who charge $15 per month.  I can't imagine that Online service is their bread and butter.

For anyone intersted, Okami sold 87k last month which is decent if not really a hit.  It will likely end up selling more in North America than Japan.

I actually can't find it ANYWHERE in japan!  I havent actually asked for it but I never see it on the shelves.  I asked a couple of kids what they thought of Okami (I'm assuming that's what it's called in Japan) and they had no idea what I was talking about!

Most of the settings are medium but I have the resolution quite high and it really looks fantastic!

Holy mother of god.. I tried this..  Maxed settings it looks AMAZING and runs smooth as SILK!

One thing that blows me away, each unit seems to have their own movements. I ordered my calvary around, and watched in awe how each one seemed to have its slightly own agenda, nothing was uniform fake like most games.

 thumbsup thumbsup

Wow you must have some setup to have it maxed out and still run like silk.

Where does he say "Its a pretty good RTS"?  All I am reading are more glowing comments on that blog, unless there is some fine print I am missing that your eyes are picking up, it sure sounds all glowing to me....

I was hoping to have Paraworld impressions up today, but they're not ready. The reason they're not ready is because I'm playing the game almost like an RPG, where you spend huge amounts of time just exploring.

This has never happened to me before.

The game world is so vibrant and so beautiful that I don't want to miss a single thing.

I'm just saying that compared to his previous comments (in June maybe?) that it's a bit underwhelming.  That's great that he loves exploring a beautiful map but that doesn't make it the greatest RTS of all time.  He hasn't really talked about it since, which is something I wish I could say for that goddamn Dwarve game that he keeps going on about endlessly.

He didn't really say that much though.  I think maybe the game is not quite as good as he was predicting.  I wonder if he'll mention it again in his blog.  According to some of his previous entries, he was predicting that this game would be the second coming of Christ.  Then he gets it and basically says "it's a pretty good rts" and sort of sweeps it under the rug.

Hmm yeah how many games exactly allow you to "spawn" copies so you can play against each other in a LAN?  I remember the original Warcraft let you do this way way back in time.
God knows don't get me wrong, I'm no angel so I'm not going to go giving lectures about purchasing games but it does seem a little silly to think that because you bought the game, that gives you the right to as many people as you want play it for free.  I mean, how is that any different for buying the game and then burning 5 copies and giving it to all my friends so that we can play online together?  Like I said, not judging you here but your protestations do seem a little bit ridiculous.

I don't want to typecast the Japanese but I suspect it has something to do with the lack of anime highschool girl panties.  After living in Japan for one and a half years I have to say that I've come to expect such high production values in all my entertainment products as well! smile
5334  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NBA 2K7 vs Live 07 on: September 28, 2006, 12:42:33 AM
All this proves is that assigning a game a number is ridiculous.  All sites should be like Wargamer.com which don't provide any ratings.  You read the review and see what the guy has to say.  With that said, if the requirements for a 10 do not include the game being "perfect" then I don't see why it can't be given a 10.  In fact I dont think there has ever been a perfect game which means we probably could just reduce the scale from 1 to 9.

5339  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: East Side Hockey Manager 2007 on: September 24, 2006, 10:00:48 AM
Well I've only actually played one preseason match (Leafs kicked the Bruins' asses 11-1)  I didnt notice any icing problems.  Is that perhaps because you have it set to watch the whole game whereas I only have the most important replays shown?  Or are you looking at the end game stats?  I dont know whether or not to get this game or not.  The problem is that as much as I want to like these managing games, I really tend to get bogged down in all the details.  Still the 2D engine is enough reason to get the game itself I think!  Now you can actually watch a game and see whats going on with a puck that actually moves around on the ice instead of simply "portaling" from place to place like it did in the old game.  For $30 Euros it's not a huge hit.  I'm sure most of you wasted more on the latest update of Madden smile

I haven't checked recently (check's the Bic Camera website as I type...)  Hmm yes the price is 16,800 yen.  I don't know about availability because I bought one on Day 1 and haven't looked back since.  Don't bother going to Akihabara though (unless you want to of course) as you aren't going to get any discounts.  A DS costs what a DS costs and that's that.  However I would suggest you go to Bic Camera (they're everywhere) and I would be happy to let you buy it using my Bic Camera card and I would take those 10% points smile
I've never had a problem with the battery.  I suspect that the DS that you buy in America is basically exactly the same DS as the one that you buy in Japan anyways.

Jeez Graham from your biased comments I'd assume that you were trying to start a console war.  Everybody else has been very objective.
I'd hardly call my posts biased or more biased than anyone else's in here.

I explained my reasons why I would go with the Xbox over the PS2, including reasons for the controller.  Just because it seems like a few more people might say that the PS2 is better when I think that the Xbox would be better suited for Crux, that doesn't mean that I'm more biased than anyone else.

It's just that you are making some more personal opinions rather than answering the original posters question about what system he should choose depending on the type of games he likes.  I'm sure it's not intentional but if it was completely objective then I would have nothing to bite which is what I'm doing now:

The Xbox certainly does not have the market cornered for quality as you imply by suggesting that the PS2 wins for quantity.  The fact is that the PS2 has the most quantity of games and the most quality games.

You suggest that the Xbox has the best controller.  That causes me to reflex with the fact that the PS2 has by far and away the best controller.  Far better than that ginormous thing the Xbox calls a controller.

You also made a ridiculous statement about how support for the PS2 is going to die off just like the Xbox.  Of course it will-in 3 freakin years, unlike Xbox's instantaneous death right after the release of the 360.  Support for the Playstation went on forever after the PS2 came out.

Anyways those are my reactions to your statements-reactions I probably wouldnt be having if I felt your statements were completely objective like "ok you like racing and sports, you should get an Xbox.'

I tried but I just couldn't do it.  I'm sorry but anybody who says that a game that uses ASCII is going to garner GOTY awards is absolutely CRAZY!! It could be an amazing game but who cares if it's completely inaccessible to most people?  Games for me need to do two things: they need to have the mouse incorporated somehow and they need to have graphics that at least look somewhat like what it's supposed to be.  I mean I'm not asking for much, maybe For Liberty style graphics.  I know that some of you guys can do the whole Matrix thing but I unfortunately will never mistake a "period" for a tree or a plant.
