5081  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Late to the Party- Sid Meier's Pirates for PSP on: March 16, 2007, 02:38:46 PM
The game has multiplayer.  I just tried it out and I was able to create a game with myself and two bots.  Playing the single-player game is much more rewarding IMHO.

5083  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Late to the Party- Sid Meier's Pirates for PSP on: March 16, 2007, 12:50:12 PM
I ordered this from NWS Online in America along with Battlefront, Fallout Collection and Europa Universalis 3.  Sid Meier's Pirates was the first one I got into and unfortunately for the other games, it might be a long while before I break those open.  I'm just amazed at the wealth of stuff you can do in this game.  The land combat mini-game is deep enough for a game on its own.  This to me is a perfect reason to get a PSP.  The load times are fast as heck.  The graphics are beautiful and the options seem endless.  I play it at work during my breaks and it's a great game to only play for 10 minutes at a time.  It's absolutely recommended if you have a PSP.

TV Tray.

Ahh whoops!  Technically though, I don't consider this to be much more of a sports title than Wii Sports is.
5087  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Hot Shots Golf 5 on: March 15, 2007, 12:36:12 AM
Anybody play this one yet?  I tried the demo the other day.  3 holes only.  I'm a huge Hot Shots Golf fan and I have Minna no Golf for the PSP.  Fans of the previous versions will surely like this game although to be perfectly honest, at first glance it seems to be more of the same with better visuals.  There are a few cosmetic changes that I noticed but not much more than that.
One thing I noticed-the game is pretty but jaggedy as hell!! I don't get how it could be so bad.  Was it the TV perhaps?  It was an HD tv although the numbers on the screen seemed a little strange.  At first it said 750p and then it changed to something like 1120p which I thought was a little strange since everybody usually talks about 720p and 1080p.
5088  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Any drawbacks to a Japanese PS3? on: March 15, 2007, 12:26:17 AM
I'm probably crazy but I'm wondering if I should pick one up sometime.  Right now there aren't really any games that are enticing me (although Minna no Golf/Hot Shots Golf) is always a blast.  Would there be much of a problem with getting a Japanese PS3?  Unlike in America there seems to be no shortage of the 20 GB models and they only cost 49,000 yen which is only $420 US.
I know I couldn't play my orginal PS and PS2 games but to be perfectly honest it's been a good 4-5 months since I used my PS2 and if I ever wanted to go back I could always drag it out again.  How about movies?  I heard that new movies now have the same region encoding as Japan-is this true?  Will older movies not work?  Any other problems that you people forsee?

If they can add a second analog stick and still allow PSP 1 hardware to coexist with PSP 1.5 hardware that's okay.  I don't want it to be a PSP 2, though.

Only one problem - where could you possibly put a second analog stick and still have the proper 'leverage' to hold the PSP in your hands?

Top right
5090  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Portable or Console- Which is Your Bigger Timesink? on: March 11, 2007, 12:41:55 AM
I'm currently playing exactly 0 games for my DS/PSP and 0 games for my PS2.  And it's been that way for a good two months now. I just ordered Pirates for the PSP so that should get some playtime as soon as it arrives.
5091  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] LittleBigPlanet on: March 09, 2007, 03:09:29 AM
I dunno about this game.  It hardly looks like a reason to buy a PS3 to me.  I'm the same as Misguided-I watched the entire movie (it was a damn long one) and I still have no idea what I was watching.  Is it made by the same guys that made LoccoRocco for the PSP?  Because it sure looks like the same game to me-it even has the same quirky music (which I admit I love).

That's about where I am.  I'm too busy not playing CoH in preparation for a matchup vs. Calvin.

I love SC, but I'll need to buy a dual-core CPU before I get it.

Seriously, you completely and utterly bailed on that game. I am still waiting-seriously lets set a date and have fun, I havent played in well over a month.

Blue Dragon was MS big chance over there and after a large first week, it dropped like a rock. Gears of War will not be the savior for the 360 over there. They need to cut their losses and stop throwing away money by trying to force Japan to accept the 360 as a legit system as they do the Wii and PS3. It just will never happen.

Any hard figures on that?  I'd like to see them.  Not that I don't believe you, just I'm curious to see what kind of rock we're talking about.

Slippery slope. Fortunately you have a choice of not buying these games.

Which part is the slippery slope?

The part about paying for extra content from a game that is not an MMORPG.  People are arguing that a piece of horse armour and the entire multiplayer portion of a game are not related.  I don't see how they are not.  That is the whole point of the slippery slope-it starts out very small and easy to swallow.  If it had have started with a developer chopping off the entire multiplayer portion of the game we would have told them to go straight to hell.  But they started small.  Couple bucks for some armour, couple hundred points for some cheat codes, a few more bucks for a small, extra mission in a game.  Then it's 'off with the multiplayer'! And we say, meh well I wont pick it up first day.

Advanced Wars Dual Strike.  29 Missions.  Amazing AI. Incredible unit variety.  Superb balancing.  Neat extras. Brilliant skirmish scenarios. BRAVO!

4. Can anyone think of a TBS game that is as good or better- on any platform?  I could toss in Disciples 2 (my all time favorite PC game) and HOMMIII (really my first TBS game), but the balancing and excellent AI of AWDS tops them all in my book.

You could try playing a real TBS game for instance.  My first recommendation would be Battles in Italy.  Almost as user-friendly as AW but fifty times as deep.  I liked AW2 but those annoying brats you had to listen to between every mission bugged the hell out of me.  So did the lack of air or arillery supply/enemy movement interdiction options smile

I didn't get any.  For some reason, I really don't like receiving games as gifts.  I'd rather have something more personal -- or even better, get clothes so that I don't have to buy them myself.  There is something about clothes shopping that I abhor.

Go to a resale shop, you can get a whole bag of clothes for $10.00..  I would rather receive games or loot than something I can get almost free myself.

Come on man, are you kidding?

Heck no, why would I be kidding? I buy all my clothes at the resale shops, you can find some great stuff there, a lot of it with price tags still on them even.(assuming you have nice shops near you - we have 4 really good ones)  I couldn't imagine paying $30-50+ for a lousy shirt, thats just insane.

I always wondered how you could buy 150 games a month.  Still though, it's beyond ridiculous.  Even if they only cost $1 each the only way you could possibly even give each game a decent amount of attention would be if you lived in a world with 36 hour days and and had no job or wife or kids.  Your Christmas loot list is enough to even shame Hetz.

Yeah but again, many people point to the 360 launch last year as a much larger success than the PS3 launch this year.  If the PS3 launched and sold more, I'd say those folks are wrong.

I think alot of people point to the launch of the Titanic as a much larger success than the PS3 launch this year.

The PS3 has failed to generate any type of positive buzz.  Just about all of the news about the PS3 (backwards compatability, scaling, November shipping numbers, launch night uglyness, controllers bugging out, PS3's being infected with the ebola virus, etc), has turned the PS3 into a joke on gaming boards, and an overpriced movie player to alot of consumers.

I have seen alot more PS3's available for sale than Wiis. Either Sony is shipping PS3s in bunches, or people aren't flocking to stores to buy them.  I guess we'll find out in January when the numbers come out.

Well technically, if you compare it to the price of a standalone Blueray player it's actually an underpriced movie player.
