I picked it up at the $15 Circuit City deal but haven't installed it yet.  Glad to hear it's so good.

$15 is a steal!

I haven't been this excited and impressed with an expansion since the Throne of Bhaal.

Christ, it's 29.99 at Futureshop. With the US dollar at 1.05 Cdn, do they really expect me to pay twice as much for the same game? That's fucking ridiculous!
4965  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (now with IMPRESSIONS) on: August 09, 2007, 12:50:56 AM
Well I picked up Phantom Hourglass this weekend.  It was free-woohoo for Bic points!  As for my first impressions-wow Japanese games are HARD to read!  I had to get my girlfriend to translate the opening sequence because the story wouldn't pause so I didn't have time to read it.  Everything from there on in isn't as bad because you touch the screen to advance the story and if you can't read any of the kanji you just have to touch it and a little bubble will pop up with the more easy to read hiragana).
As for actual gameplay impressions...well I wont have many more until you guys get the game in October because that's probably when I'll have finally gone through and translated the initial dialogue/story opener smile
All I can say is that moving around using the stylus feels really precise and natural-I couldnt imagine going back to using the direction pad.  Also, being able to draw on the map is kinda cool.

I just checked it out.  It's a pretty good site but a little "too" gay for me.  I have nothing against it but when I want to read about games I only want to read about games-I don't want the gay/heterosexual slant.

4969  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (now with IMPRESSIONS) on: August 06, 2007, 03:19:45 PM
What were the Japanese reviews for this one like?  I think I might pick it up tomorrow.  My Japanese is not up to par but I think it would be good practice to try it in Japanese. Looking at the pics on Gamespot, I seem to be able to read everything even though I can't understand it all.

I didn't realize that hackers needed a reason to do this.  I always just sorta figured they did it because they're hackers.
4972  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Starcraft 2 hands on preview on: August 05, 2007, 09:02:55 AM
It looks to me like they're changing quite a lot.  From the 10 minute video I watched of the Terrans, they had a crapload of new units with new abilities which could change the balance of the game.  The graphics aren't mindblowingly beautiful but they're pretty good-and nobody plays this game for the nice graphics anyways.  I noticed that a lot of the dialogue audio is the same.  Someone please tell me that they still have the nuclear launch sequence detection warning still.  God I love that part smile

No seriously, deformed players and all, this game does shit the 2k series could only dream about.

For example?  I'm not really into baseball so I won't be picking this up.  But im curious to know what makes it so great-I've seen it on sale over here.

Oh and I thought this was hilarious:

You think so? Do people do that for regular card games? (like Magic or Warcraft)
4975  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Eye of Judgement? on: August 03, 2007, 03:05:55 PM
Tycho over at PennyArcade is going crazy over some card playing game for the PS3-I've never even heard about it before.  Actually I'm not really even into card games like that but those guys are usually pretty on the ball when it comes to these sort of things.  Anybody heard much about it?

That HDD required label has been around a long time.  Don't know why people are just picking up on it now.  Here's a news article from February 06 about Football Manager which was the first HDD required game.  It's not a new trend you'll be seeing.  The number of Core Xboxes out there aren't a huge percentage by any means, but it's big enough to give anyone pause before saying "Yeah we're just going to cut them out."

Wow I would be seriously pissed off if I bought a core 360 and then found out that all of a sudden I couldn't play a lot of games on it.  I know the PS2 had FFXI but that's the only game that required a HD as far as I can remember and you could get it with the game.  Can you actually put a HD in the core 360?  If so then I guess it's not a huge problem, but if you cant even upgrade it then you'd be totally screwed.

I would love to see the Core disappear since it was a bad idea to start with, but Microsoft seems pretty committed to it so I doubt it will be fully gone either.  As with all rumors, time will tell.

About effin' time they get rid of the Core model that has forced developers to develop for systems that don't have the HD in it (which was a VERY stupid idea to begin with).

And as already said earlier in this thread (and I've said many times before) - if Microsoft does a price drop, they need to drop the Premium to the Core level, and get rid of the Core.

What happens to the people who bought the core unit if they can't play any new games because they don't have a HD?

4982  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: DS Madden has paper football on: July 28, 2007, 04:08:39 PM
we used to play a game where you would have to try to flick a penny into the opponents "goal" (formed by the index and baby finger lying flat on the table).  It was more like hockey than football though.  Well I guess that's what being raised in Canada will get you.
4983  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: DS Madden has paper football on: July 27, 2007, 03:01:39 PM
Forgive my ignorance but what the heck is paper football?  I went to your link but they just referred to it as something everybody would know.

I picked this up yesterday-only cost 9,800 yen DOH!  Oh well I guess that's the costs of living in Japan.  This will be my first miniatures game-I hope I enjoy it! smile
Anybody else into this one?  Any must have expansion packs that I should pick up?
4988  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: You MUST rofl at this on: July 26, 2007, 03:14:01 PM
Technically all those people on that show are cultural icons.  Japan does not put "normal" people on shows like that.  They use famous celebrities who are already rich and really couldn't give a damn whether they won or lost.  There were two teams alright, but they weren't really competing for anything.  The losers got nothing and the winners got...nothing.  It's all about the laughs.

4992  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: FF XII International on: July 24, 2007, 12:36:12 AM
Yes I believe it's just the PS3 games that have no region encoding.  What I want to know is, if you can only play it in Japan, why the hell do they call it "International"?  It probably has something to do with the Japanese passion for naming their things completely differently from what they actually are.
4993  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NCAA 08 on: July 21, 2007, 02:23:06 PM
Wow that replay thing is actually pretty cool!  It costs 400 points for that feature though right?  Jeez if only they would just include that stuff in the game.
4994  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Finished Okami? on: July 21, 2007, 02:17:45 PM
I think most people would agree that Okami was one of the best games on the PS2 last year (and perhaps all-time) but how many people actually managed to finish it?  I for one know that I am a looong way from the end and I stopped playing at least 6 months ago.  I can't understand why because I was absolutely floored by it.  Who else loved it but never got around to finishing it?
4995  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minna no Golf 5 (Hot Shots Golf 5) on: July 20, 2007, 02:13:19 AM

Please take these with a grain of salt-"converting" english into Japanese isn't exactly easy.  It's sometimes hard to know how they pronounce something.

4996  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Question about Firefox on: July 20, 2007, 01:20:11 AM
Am I the only person who browses the internet like this?  I just click on the "down" button and it brings up a list of all my favourite sites that i usually visit.  What i would like is for my regular ones to start at the top, not at the very bottom of the list.  I don't like the bookmarks because I'm a bit of a "viewing area" whore and like to limit the amount of space that the browser actually takes up.  See?  I even have the small icons! Tongue
I'm guessing that it's not possible to fix this since it seems that nobody browses this way anyways. Weird!

ADA-MU アダーム.

Well I have Minna no Golf in Japanese for the PSP and I would have to say that maybe 75% is katakana.  There is some hirigana which might be a little difficult to decipher but it didn't really cause me any problems
4999  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Question about Firefox on: July 19, 2007, 02:49:17 AM
I love Firefox and have been a dedicated user for at least two years now but one thing bothers me which i cant figure out how to change.  In IE, the last link you visited through the navigation toolbar goes to the top of the list.  That way all your favourite sites are always at the top and the ones you only visit once drop down to the bottom and eventually disappear.  But with firefox for me the first link I visit is always at the bottom even though it's the one i visit the most.  That's quite a pain.  Surely it must be possible to change this?
5000  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minna no Golf 5 (Hot Shots Golf 5) on: July 18, 2007, 11:54:04 PM
It's the writing system used for foreign words.  There are 46 characters.  For example Calvin would be KA~RUBIN or カールビン。 Start would be SUTA-TO スタート.  Obviously knowledge of katakana will not change the multiplayer portion.  Perhaps you should email Hetz-he probably will be importing it smile
