But if everybody simply dove through the holes then it wouldn't be funny.  And I doubt that the average American could dive through those holes-even though they might be sly enough to try it.   Tongue

None of this will even affect me for a couple of years but still, could it be that the people running Sony actually aren't crazy?
4963  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Heroscape on: July 27, 2007, 12:02:58 AM
Trees are important are they?  I was hoping to maybe pick up Memoir 44 but unfortunately they didn't have it.  Hopefully I can get in a game this weekend maybe!
4964  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Heroscape on: July 26, 2007, 03:19:33 PM
I picked this up yesterday-only cost 9,800 yen DOH!  Oh well I guess that's the costs of living in Japan.  This will be my first miniatures game-I hope I enjoy it! smile
Anybody else into this one?  Any must have expansion packs that I should pick up?
4965  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: You MUST rofl at this on: July 26, 2007, 03:14:01 PM
Technically all those people on that show are cultural icons.  Japan does not put "normal" people on shows like that.  They use famous celebrities who are already rich and really couldn't give a damn whether they won or lost.  There were two teams alright, but they weren't really competing for anything.  The losers got nothing and the winners got...nothing.  It's all about the laughs.

Wow.  They certainly all look 20 years older!! Sigh.  Kind of depressing actually.  I suppose I look a lot different from my then seven years old age though smile

LOL!  How come the only thing I ever see on Japanese TV are shit variety shows?

4969  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: FF XII International on: July 24, 2007, 12:36:12 AM
Yes I believe it's just the PS3 games that have no region encoding.  What I want to know is, if you can only play it in Japan, why the hell do they call it "International"?  It probably has something to do with the Japanese passion for naming their things completely differently from what they actually are.
4970  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NCAA 08 on: July 21, 2007, 02:23:06 PM
Wow that replay thing is actually pretty cool!  It costs 400 points for that feature though right?  Jeez if only they would just include that stuff in the game.
4971  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Finished Okami? on: July 21, 2007, 02:17:45 PM
I think most people would agree that Okami was one of the best games on the PS2 last year (and perhaps all-time) but how many people actually managed to finish it?  I for one know that I am a looong way from the end and I stopped playing at least 6 months ago.  I can't understand why because I was absolutely floored by it.  Who else loved it but never got around to finishing it?
4972  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minna no Golf 5 (Hot Shots Golf 5) on: July 20, 2007, 02:13:19 AM
KURI-SHICHAN

クリーシチャン

Please take these with a grain of salt-"converting" english into Japanese isn't exactly easy.  It's sometimes hard to know how they pronounce something.

4973  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Question about Firefox on: July 20, 2007, 01:20:11 AM
Am I the only person who browses the internet like this?  I just click on the "down" button and it brings up a list of all my favourite sites that i usually visit.  What i would like is for my regular ones to start at the top, not at the very bottom of the list.  I don't like the bookmarks because I'm a bit of a "viewing area" whore and like to limit the amount of space that the browser actually takes up.  See?  I even have the small icons! Tongue
I'm guessing that it's not possible to fix this since it seems that nobody browses this way anyways. Weird!

4974  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NFL 2K8. on: July 19, 2007, 10:56:11 PM
So what did they do to stop you from completely recreating an NFL league?  How did they stop that?

Canuck!  What's Adam in katana!?

ADA-MU アダーム.

Well I have Minna no Golf in Japanese for the PSP and I would have to say that maybe 75% is katakana.  There is some hirigana which might be a little difficult to decipher but it didn't really cause me any problems
4976  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Question about Firefox on: July 19, 2007, 02:49:17 AM
I love Firefox and have been a dedicated user for at least two years now but one thing bothers me which i cant figure out how to change.  In IE, the last link you visited through the navigation toolbar goes to the top of the list.  That way all your favourite sites are always at the top and the ones you only visit once drop down to the bottom and eventually disappear.  But with firefox for me the first link I visit is always at the bottom even though it's the one i visit the most.  That's quite a pain.  Surely it must be possible to change this?
4977  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minna no Golf 5 (Hot Shots Golf 5) on: July 18, 2007, 11:54:04 PM
It's the writing system used for foreign words.  There are 46 characters.  For example Calvin would be KA~RUBIN or カールビン。 Start would be SUTA-TO スタート.  Obviously knowledge of katakana will not change the multiplayer portion.  Perhaps you should email Hetz-he probably will be importing it smile
4978  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wish you can have a superbowl ring? on: July 18, 2007, 11:06:04 AM
Wow.  That's only slightly cooler than wearing a ring you got out of a cereal box.
4979  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minna no Golf 5 (Hot Shots Golf 5) on: July 18, 2007, 11:03:30 AM
I could take a look I guess.  I don't have a PS3 so I'll have to hang around the Bic Camera's a lot until I get a chance to play.  To be honest though, you really don't need to know any Japanese to play Minna no Golf.  In fact, most of the game actually IS in english-it's just written in katakana which makes it a little difficult to read smile  If you want, you could invest a couple days in learning katakana and then you'd be good to go.

For some people it's a minor difference that wins out, but all those "minors" still add up quick.
Now lets just hope MS can put as much QC / development attention to the new 360 SKU. slywink

Of course this is a forum of people who mainly play their Xbox 360.  I'm sure if I went over to the PS2 Hardware forum at Gamefaqs and made the same poll, the results would be remarkably different.  Not saying that the poll is wrong-just that you always need to consider the source of your data.

Just checked it out.  I must say I'm extremely jealous of your japanese ability! I have no problems with katakana or hirigana but i'm only a novice at Kanji.  It would take me forever to go through all of that dialog!! I must say that your blog is extremely professional looking.

What's the point of the offset positioning?
My thumbs aren't offset--why should the sticks be?

My thoughts exactly.  icon_smile  But some people feel that is more comfortable to play with the analog sticks offset.  I guess it all depends on the shape of your hands!
4986  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PS3 price drop? on: July 13, 2007, 12:26:08 PM
LOL
So there actually is no price drop after all then.  Basically what you get is an extra 20 gigs for the same price.  Whoop-de doo.  Still there must be quite a lot of 60 gig PS3's still out there.  I wonder if the price of PS3's has dropped in Japan.  If they went down to 39,000 yen then I could use my bic camera points and pick one up for only 16,000 yen  icon_biggrin
4987  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Possible new PS3 controller with offset analog sticks on: July 13, 2007, 12:22:37 PM
The old PS controller never bothered me at all.  I guess I played different kinds of games.  I don't know if they can just switch the two though-because now the D-pad looks to be in a damned awkward position.  I think they would need to change the shape of the entire controller.
4988  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: E3 '07 Coverage: Sony Press Event on: July 13, 2007, 01:40:47 AM
I gotta agree with Gellar on this one.  It's not like you need a special license to get a mouse or keyboard.  Everyone CAN play with the same hardware-if they want to.  If they choose to stick with an archaic form of control for a FPS (such as a regular controller) then that's their choice.

4992  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NFL 2K8. on: July 06, 2007, 01:37:49 PM
Well I don't know anything about the NFL so I'm perfectly comfortable about a non-licensed game.  I'm not even really interested in football but I might pick this one up, just to stick it to EA.
4993  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PSP] Own Lumines? Now you can totally hack your PSP with it! on: June 29, 2007, 12:04:29 AM
By the way, how is it that a custom firmware thread is being allowed on the official Playstation boards?  You'd think they would delete and ban anybody who had anything to do with that.

4996  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PSP] Own Lumines? Now you can totally hack your PSP with it! on: June 24, 2007, 10:01:30 AM
Hmm well I bricked my PSP the last time I tried to do it.  Fortunately Sony fixed it for me but I'm a little bit leery about trying it again.
4997  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Please Help! PSP or DS (yes, this question again!) on: June 22, 2007, 12:54:55 AM
Well Pirates for the PSP is definitely a sweet game-I got so addicted to that game.  The graphics are great and apparently it was far superior to the Xbox version.  I highly recommend it.
4998  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii Internet is Pay to Play on June 30th? on: June 21, 2007, 11:53:21 PM
Yes paying $5 to download a web browser is not exactly "pay to play."  If that were the case then every game we buy is "pay to play".  Pay to play is WoW.  Pay to play is using the internet on my cellphone.
4999  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Please Help! PSP or DS (yes, this question again!) on: June 21, 2007, 11:47:26 PM
Not very helpful advice: If you had have just kept your last PSP then you wouldn't be in this situation right now. I can't understand how anybody buys a console, decides to get rid of it and then buys one all over again!  I don't play my PSP very much nor my PS2 at all, but the very thought of selling either of them has never entered my head!  This isn't a personal criticism of you, Vinda-it's just that this kind of thing happens all the time on these forums.

Hmm problems with the stylus.  That doesn't surprise me.  I had problems with it as well on Age of Empires.  I really don't think the stylus is all it's cracked up to be, especially for games that require pinpoint accuracy like this.  Too bad the game isn't being released on the PSP with larger screen, better graphics and more media space.
