Ok got the game! Am really liking it so far! Not loving it yet but I'm only 2 hours in.  Seems like a really decent SRPG.  The graphics are beautiful-I think im gonna get a rude awakening when Final Fantasy Tactics is re-released.  Nice to see God back in RPG's as well smile
4842  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Finally!! on: September 23, 2007, 02:17:32 AM
The games are in my hands!!! Finally I'll have something to contribute to the Jeanne D'Arc thread-I'll just have to go dig it up! dude

My anger at Canada Post forced me to go ahead and do my first photoshop pic (not actually photoshop).  Not too bad for an amateur if I don't say so myself!  icon_biggrin

Ok it needs work.

My games came in the post today! (Only took almost an entire goddamned month, Canada Post how did you send them, in a fucking CANOE?)  Unfortunately I wasn't in so they're coming again tomorrow (Sunday) morning.  Which one should I break into first?  I'm not going to start one until I finish the other.
I got sent over to me both Jeanne D'Arc and Brave Story: New World Traveller.  Which one should go into the PSP first?

Playing Populous now would be pretty boring.  Unless they did one of the sequels, which might be fun since I never played them.

Many would say the same for SimCity, yet the DS version sold well enough that they're dipping into the game game well again.

Yeah except for the fact that SimCity for the DS was crap and people were either disappointed or didn't buy it.  Any search of these forums will back that up.  I think there was maybe one thread on it?
4847  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Who doesn't care about Guitar Hero/Rock Band? on: September 21, 2007, 02:38:31 AM
I suspect I am in the minority here-although reading this forum makes me feel like I am literally the only one who has no interest in playing these games.  I just don't get it.  Is it the music? Is it for the perfectionist in everybody?  I never really thought Dance Dance Revolution was all that great either so maybe it's just me.  Anyways I'm happy that I won't have to spend almost as much as a new console is worth to get a couple of "great" games in the future.  icon_biggrin

Isn't that the point though?
Games aren't productive, they're a waste of time in general.

It's a free service.  If you don't like it, don't use it.  This isn't a replacement for the XMB.   If you chose simplicity then, there ya go.
Some people will completely dig Home though.
If it wastes 20 seconds of my time while I wait for some friends to hop on Warhawk or UT3 I got my $0.00s worth.

I never understood why people hate on Home.  It's like being offered a bag of Cheetos and instead of saying no thanks, shouting "Cheetos Suck!!"

+1

People just like to hate on the PS3.  I've never seen so many people upset that Sony is bring back the rumble feature.  Some people just like to complain.
4849  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / TGS trailer impressions?? on: September 20, 2007, 11:54:30 PM
White Knight looked fairly bleh, but Little Big Planet looks quite awesome.  It looks like you'll be able to create your own "maps" and then upload them and share with other users.
WTF was the Yakuza trailer?  That was not what I was expecting. Isn't Yakuza like a Japanese GTA?  I'm not sure I want to play in the year 1605-they have other games of that type already!

Or you could just not play FPS games on your PSP.  I don't have a single PSP FPS shooter and I don't plan on ever owning one (although SOCOM 2 demo was pretty cool).  I won't ever buy a FPS for a console for the same reason.

I think it's more a problem of paying to get there.  Flying to Japan isn't cheap.  Would love to get a GT reporter out there, but that'd require a lot of fundraising on our part.

Well I could fly I suppose, but it's really a lot easier for me to take the 20 minute train ride into Tokyo.  icon_biggrin

Really?  Is Seiko not a good watch?
I'm not being sarcastic - I honestly know next to zero about watches.

Seiko is a fantastic watch company-there's more allure to saying that you have a Swiss watch but they are very innovative.  A short list of Seiko firsts:

First (arguably) auto chronograph
First display back chronograph
First Quartz watch
First LCD
First Titanium watch
First Kinetic movement
First Quartz analog chrono
First LCD Chrono
First Wristwatch LCD dive computer
First Wristwatch analog dive computer
First inner rotating bezel diver
First thermic movement
First watch with a computer interface
First Springdrive movement
First 1/100 quartz chronograph

Fixed. Go with the Orient, or as another wise poster wrote, an Omega.

That's how tru playaz roll. And, yes, I roll an Omega.

Well the truth is, any watch you buy over $200 is just jewelry.  You can get a ridiculously cheap watch that will tell you the time just as well or even better than a Rolex might.  Omega's are nice but I'm in Japan so A)It would make more sense to get a Japanese watch and B) It would be a hell of a lot cheaper (the Euro is astronomical compared to the yen).

This doesn't interest me too much but on a lot of the watch forums I've been on, people are raving about this Orient Diver's watch called "Mako."  It's only a nickname but people swear buy it.  Apparently the quality you get from this $200 watch is just ridiculous.  I'm not looking for a Diver so it doesnt really interest me.

Oh and yes I think we're all agreed that the Orient looks far too "busy" (well everybody but Wonderpug that is).  But people you have got to see that thing in motion!!  The super smoove movement of the second hand (not the silly ticking) and watching those little gears turn round and round.  It's just poetry in motion I'm telling you!

You would get an engraving on a present to yourself?

Well it's not going to say "Dear Canuck, thanks for being there, through the good times and the bad, Love Canuck"

I thought I would get 日本 東京 2007 or "Nippon Tokyo 2007"  It's just one of those things that you can look back on.  Maybe in 20 years a little girl will say "Daddy what's this strange writing on your watch?"  and I can say to her "Well dear, I picked up that watch in the same country where I picked up your mother." biggrin

As for the mechanical vs quartz thing, not many people would even know the difference.  But people who are watch purists tend to go with mechanical watches-it's more romantic I guess.

And yes I'm not a fan of all that clutter on the other watch either-It has a slide rule which is cool if you use it but I know I never would.  But being able to see the jewels in your watch and watching things move is just mesmerizing for me (sort of like anime boobies! smile)
4864  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Watches on: September 14, 2007, 01:52:36 AM
Not too expensive (relatively).  The Seiko is 73,000 yen and Orient 45,000 yen.  So that would be about $650 and $380 respectively.  So not too expensive compared to those high end watches (Rolex?) but on the other hand, it's way more than I've ever paid for a watch before ($120).

It seems a little silly to walk around with the monetary equivalent of a PS3 on your arm or even a widescreen HDTV.  On the other hand, that $2000 HDTV will probably be hopelessly obsolete in 10 years time (PS3 even less) whereas you'd probably still be wearing that same watch in 40 years.

My birthday is coming up Sept 30th and I'm planning on picking myself up a little birthday present. I'm thinking either:

Seiko Perpetual Kinetic SNP004                               Orient something or other

What I like about the Seiko:

*it's kinetic so there's no need for a battery
*it's perpetual so I wont have to change the date until February 2100 (assuming I can make it smile)
*it has a 4 year power reserve so if you stop wearing it the hands stop moving but the date keeps advancing and when you start wearing it again, the hands automatically move to the correct time
*It's a quartz so it keeps pretty accurate time
*It has a solid back so I can get it engraved- perhaps "Nippon Tokyo 2007" or something

What I don't like about the Seiko:

*It's a quartz so all those mechanical elitists will laugh at me
*It's a quartz so it has the "ticking" second hand

What I like about the Orient:

*It's mechanical so I can give smug looks of superiorty to all those quartz users
*You can see the insides which is amazingly addictive to watch
*It's mechanical so it has the "sweeping" second hand movement
*The case back is clear
*It's kinetic

What I don't like about the Orient:

*It has a clear case back so I probably couldn't get an engraving
*Mechanicals aren't as accurate as quartz
*The dial is a little cluttered-I really don't need a slide rule
*It doesn't have a memory so if I stop wearing it I'm going to have to manually reset the time
*There's no day or date or anything

Anyways that's my conundrum right now. I don't know if many of you even know Orient. I've certainly never heard of them before.  They seem to be highly respected all over the world but not so much in North America.  Everybody says they're an amazing high quality watch for what you pay, comparing them to more expensive Swiss watches.  I may end up buying a completely different watch all together.  So do we have any watch enthusiasts here?  What do you like to wear on your wrist?

Is there no love for this type of game on these forums?  I don't recall ever seeing anyone talking about it (I admit, I didn't do a search).  I've been checking out some reviews and it looks like it has a lot of potential.  Have you played it? What do you think?  I know that people go nuts for it over here in Japan.  Is this game even out yet in America?  Someone must have impressions!

*edit* oh and I read in a review that it now loads on the go so now loadtimes are minimal (non-existent?) so there goes one major complaint from the first game.

I am curious why they should not be 3D?

What's the point?  There's barely any animation and the game looks cluttered as hell.  I don't include CM because it's so realistic and there's no grid.  You're basically playing a real time game with pauses.  I don't know.  I played Massive Assault and futuristic one in America and it totally turned me off these style of games.
