Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Space Rangers 2?

I'm playing through the first game right now. Is there any way I can leave extra equipment on planets? I'm looking for the life of me because i would love to free up some space but I can't find anywhere that will let me do this. Was this just an improvement for SR2?

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Will Sony drop price of PS2 for Xbox 360 launch??
|
on: August 26, 2005, 02:02:30 PM

|
I've heard lots of rumors of Microsoft dropping the price of the 360 when Sony launches their PS3 but how about the other way around? Will Sony launch a pre-emptive strike in November? I'm hoping they do because I want to pick up a second PS2 and I don't want to buy one now only to have the price drop in 2 months.

I checked out the movies on their site. Is the RTS combat as fast as it looks in the movie? It seems a little bit too crazy for my liking.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 Preorders available online (EbGames)!

Keep your $25 in the bank earning interest. All .000000036 of that interest you'll be getting on $25 for 3 months? I'll forego the interest and know that my stuff will be all packed up and waiting for me whenever I get out of work and swing by EB. Just easier for me. Where's the fun in that? At Walmart they let my friend open and start up the PSP's until he got one that didn't have any dead pixels lol.

Uhh guys it's called Walmart. I don't undestand why any of you preorder anyways. Do you honestly think millions of people are going to be lining up to buy a $400 console? When the PSP came out the EB's were all short of stock and Walmart had literally boxes and boxes of them! No line up or anything. Keep your $25 in the bank earning interest.

Actually in terms of the layout I prefer IGN to Gamespot. It's so much easier to browse reviews and such. I used to be a huge believer in IGN (ie. 7 years ago) but I take everything they say with a block of salt nowadays.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 Pre-Release Thread

What do you think the breakdown will be of people who buy the full version vs. people who buy the gimped version? I just pulled 85% out of my butt, I have no idea. I'm sure there's not a soul here who would buy the gimped version but at the same time I can't help but think of all those mothers who are out buying new consoles for their kids. They probably have no idea what the difference is between the consoles and more than likely they can only afford to buy one console in the first place. If you were in the same situation wouldn't you buy the one that costs $100 dollars less? That way when your son opens up his Christmas presents he could get a console AND a game.
I get a feeling that casual gamers/poor people probably make up a good 85% of the demographic So things aren't looking good in my opinion. Isn't it also true that backwards compatible games will only work with the full version of 360? If that's the case and emulating games for the 360 is a difficult and expensive process then how many game companies are going to put any effort into it when most people can't even play them?

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 Pre-Release Thread
|
on: August 18, 2005, 03:12:35 PM

Game companies are sick of losing money on their consoles. I can't understand how any one can knock Microsoft for the $399 price. They aren't short changing anyone, they are just trying to give people more options by offering the $299 version.
If Sony releases the PS3 for less than $400 I will be shocked. Not only that, but just think about how much money they can potentially lose if they price the PS3 at $400. There is the system, the built in wireless adapter, the Hi-Def dvd, and I have heard that they are also considering an optional hard drive. I wouldn't be mad at Sony if the PS3 started at $600 dollars with all the crap they are putting in it.
Then there is Nintendo, and I wouldn't be suprised at all if the Revolution was only (ha only) $200. Yet they have catches too, charging to download all the games for one, and the other is that for that price, their machine just won't be able to do what the other two can. I know that it is all about the "game play", but if they don't improve the tech, they can't improve the gameplay.
People might not understand or like what Microsoft has done, but they have just opened gamers eyes to the $400 console price tag. It's kind of funny, because they totally took the burden off of Sony. Errm I think I've yet to read a post where someone is complaining about the $400 pricetag. People are complaining about the 2 SKU versions. It's bad news for everybody. I agree with the person who stated that the harddriveless consoles won't be gimped. You know why? Because developers will be focusing on the 85% majority of gimped Xbox owners (my guess) for there games. So it is actually the superior HD that is going to have it's games gimped-they won't be nearly as cool as they could have been.

Out of curiousity, what was Dragonquest have that FF doesn't? I know that DQ>FF here in Japan but as I've never played a game I can't tell why. Judging from the trailer the graphics seem pretty meh and the story failed to interest me whatsoever. So what is it that makes it so popular exactly?

And Canuck, I'm curious why you couldn't bring yourself to play the game again. I know why I won't (besides the whole 'not owning it anymore' thing), but was it just that long stretch without saves that kept you from trying it again? Or perhaps the worry that it would crash at the same place if you did it again? I haven't played Prince of Persia yet to compare, though it is in my backlog.
Meh it's a fairly long haul from the last save point to the end with lots of annoying jumping and then you have to beat the end boss on top of that (which was extremely cool I must admit.) I just couldn't be bothered. I technically beat it anyways although it would be cool to see the ending because I was developing an emotional attachment to that girl I was saving

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / New FF VII game?

Is there a new FF7 game in the works? I thought there wasn't but I was just perusing a game magazine today (in Japan) and right there in the previews section there was a spread for a game called FFVII and then a sub-title underneath it. The only part of the spread that I recognized was the part that said FFVII lol. Tomorrow I will try to take a pic of it (unless of course this is old news which it surely must be in the internet age.)

You're both heathens The game is amazing. Yes there is a bit of a long stretch near the end where you can't save. In fact I never saw the ending of the game because I finally made it through and then the game crashed when I beat the final boss. I couldn't bring myself to play it again. In my opinion it's better than Prince of Persia.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How many PC games do you have installed?
|
on: July 16, 2005, 10:49:30 AM
|
Silent Hunter 3 and Pro Evolution 4. PE4 I just installed today so before that I only had one This is a new computer though so that's partly the reason. But at the same time I try to keep the fewest number of games on my comp as possible. Don't you find that the more games you have the less time you actually spend playing them? It takes so much effort to have so much choice so in the end you end up playng nothing and watching a movie instead.

I'm a pretty big PS2 fanboy but from what you've described I would probably recommend you to head the way of the Xbox. I'm still not a big fan of the controller but if you want to play sports/racing games then the Xbox is what you should get. There isnt much reason for a sports gamer to get a PS2 anymore, now that Winning Eleven is now on the Xbox.

Hopefully with all these USB ports we'll get the option to finally use a mouse or keyboard. I would love it if the PS3 came with some kind of simple webbrowser interface. I love the fact that I don't have to upgrade and I love the fact that as the years go on console games keep getting better and better looking even though you're still using the exact same hardware. That NEVER happens with the PC. If you want your games to get better looking with the PC then you have to upgrade. Honestly if I could just use my console to browse the web then my last computer would be my last computer.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / System Discussion: Playstation 3

So far I'm impressed. Don't knock the controller yet. All we can see are pictures of it from the same angle. I still feel that the PS2 has the best controller of the bunch and I have faith that they wouldn't screw this up. It looks very similar to a Logitech controller that I've seen before. I've never actually tried it before but I always hear how amazing Logitech controllers are. The only thing that concerns me is that the Triangle and Circle buttons appean to be slanted away on the top half and I'm wondering if it might be a little more awkward to use them.

I don't think the colour of the console really matters that much. Look at the Playstation-it was white and it killed. I've heard the same thing about black but look at the PS2. Hmm I guess the moral of the story is that they could release the PS2 in rainbow colour and people would still buy it lol.

Ahh ok that's not so bad then But if you read on in my post Rob you'll see that I base my decisions not on size but on games which is why I don't own an Xbox and probably won't own a 360 unless they somehow manage to get a lot of Japanese developers on board which they better do or else nobody in Japan will buy one. I'm actually living in Tokyo right now and the Xbox sections in all the videogame stores are absolutely miniscule or even non existent.

My god that thing is ginormous. It's almost as big as the old XBOX! I thought they learned that no one wants a big hulking dinosaur of a console system. I will PROBABLY stick with Sony. Right now they have almost all the games that the XBOX does and a lot that it doesnt. So unless the Xbox magically corners the japanese market I probably won't be purchasing one.

Hi guys I am a major lurker here but I just have to comment on this thread. The one thing that really bothers me about Tomb Raider is how the whole movement is based on a grid system. It makes moving and running and jumping such a dreadful chore. I just checked out the movie and although I admit it looks like she has some cool new moves, it looks to me from a couple of shots that we actually got to see her running that she still controls like a tank. If that's true then I'll probably pass this one up.
