Can Resistance be played with a mouse and keyboard?  Because I tried it in the store but console controls absolutely blow.

Yes simply powering on the PSP does not connect it to Windows.  You actually have to go into your PSP menu and select USB mode-this sounds like it might be your problem.

Initial impressions-the game is quite fun. The camera is quite crap.  I really love being able to rotate the camera 360 degrees and this game doesnt seem to allow me to do that.  Destructive terrain is awesome.  So is opportunity fire.  There is no grid.  If you have enough points to squeeze out moving a little closer to that wall then you can do that.  Actually I'm not a big fan of that system-I love the grid system.  With no grid there's no cursor either so you just have to use the left and right shoulder buttons to select your other characters.  Everybody seems to have two weapons. A normal weapon that has unlimited ammo (or is melee) and a bigger weapon that has limited ammo.  The maps are pretty huge so you pretty much need to look at the map screen to see what the enemy is doing because the game doesn't automatically centre on a moving unit.  That might be one bonus for the DS version.  But I cant imagine playing a game like this on the DS.

I can absolutely get that you folks are extremely busy.
I know you guys put a ton of work into the reviews and news.
I really, truly hope that the original post didn't sound unappreciative of that,
because I am (heck...as I said, I'm trying to go to the front page more
after that derailed thread the other day, because I don't want your effort
to be wasted). That thought crossed my mind as I was posting, and I chastised
myself saying "Not like you wrote a review yourself, genius."

And the truth is (which comes back to your point) that I don't feel
qualified to review it because I haven't played it enough.
I've put several hours into it, enough to know it is a far
superior entry to the oringinal DS title. But my own play time has
been sucked away by Phantom Hourglass, Eternal Sonata, WoW, etc.
Perhaps a quick-hit type of thing would be doable.

I think that in this particular instance, it might have been better
to not have a review of the title. This would be preferable to a review
that might lead some readers, who might have otherwise considered a purchase,
to another decision. It's a good Worms game, for all that entails.
If you like the series or have been considering trying it, this is a must-have.
If you don't like the core gameplay, this won't do anything to change your mind.

Your poem doesn't make any sense-there aren't enough rhymes in there.  Or are you trying to be Shakesperian?

Panzer Tactics should be out on Oct 31st I believe.  The website has 3 new videos up detailing the game! Looks great!  It looks like a straight-up Panzer General for the DS.  You even get Fame (Prestige) points that you use to purchase new units.

If you only knew...

Runway/taxiway incursions are my second biggest air safety concern (after fatigue).  Airports can be a confusing mess to navigate, especially in peak traffic hours with horrible ATC frequency congestion and in bad weather/low vis.  I actually like going into smaller municipal airports as they are more straightforward.  But O'Hare/Newark/LGA and their peers just plain suck, suck, suck!  Taxiing out my stress level is high, after takeoff, my stress level drops dramatically.  Then on approach it starts ramping back up. with the landing/clearing the runway phase being my personal most stressful time of a flight.  Consistently over the years the number of incursions on the ground hasn't improved at all, despite inflight problems remaining quite low.

Edit:  Oh, I don't agree with not disclosing the info.  I don't know what they plan to do with the results, but I'd hate to see all that time and energy and money wasted and the lessons learned not put to good use to improve things.

I always wonder after landing, "how in the hell do they know where to go?"

The number of copies MGS has sold is completely and utterly irrelevant to the quality of the writing and cutscenes. Halo has featured poor writing and a convoluted plot for 3 games and has sold far more than the MGS series-shall we compare?

Just being devils advocate here but I thought I would compare on Wiki.

Halo: 5 million
Halo 2: 6.5 million
Halo 3: 5.2 million

MGS: 6 million
MGS2: 7 million
MGS3: 4 million

It's fairly neck and neck, but the MGS series seems to be winning by a nose (so far).

The PSP version of the game understandably looks a lot better than the DS version. The character models are better-defined, the environments look cleaner, and the smoke effect and the larger widescreen allows you to see more of the battlefield at a time than on the DS' cramped screen. You also miss out on the attractive, yet brief, movies that set the scene in the PSP version, replaced by stills on the DS. There is an advantage to playing on the DS, however, as you can see both the battle view and the tactical map at the same time on the system's dual screens

PSP it is then.  I'm sorry but being able to look at a map in a different screen does not sell me on that version. DS FTL

In Japan I can get a new 20 gig PS3 for the equivalent of $380US.  Wouldn't that be more advantageous in almost every way to getting a gimped 40gig PS3 (or 80 gig?)
I see that the 40 gig will have wireless but the 20gig should at least be backwards compatible.  Any other issues that I'm missing?

No, because it's already there.

Look at the top of the page... See your avatar?  To the right of that, you should see, Show unread posts since last visit.  Whalla!

BTW, the sports forum will be merged.  There's some behind the scene stuff going on right now, we were aiming for this weekend, but that might change.

How would you say this game differs from COH?  Now obviously the setting is different.  I tried COH a long time ago and I just tried the demo of WiC.  COH seems just a little more...personal? I dunno.  I think it has something to do with the fact that you can zoom out so far in WiC.

Well I'm gonna post here until it gets moved.  It seems like a decent game I guess.  I don't think the setting really grabs me though.  On the other hand, it runs quite well on my 2 year old laptop (with settings adjusted of course) which really pleases me a lot.

Know what the best way to fix a 'dead forum' is?  Start a conversation. smile

Honestly I'd like to see more discussions on the work we put into the front page.  We post probably 200 pieces of news a week or more...very little of that is discussed here.  Sometimes there are even duplicate threads that point to other forums and websites on things we posted 3-4 days prior.  I wish I knew what the magic formula is to drive the discussion but I'm open to any ideas.

If you want to get more responses to the stories posted then I say work something up where you can reply directly to the news story (a la Kotaku and many other gaming and non-gaming sites) rather than making a thread about it.  I would love to comment on some of the stories that I read but I'm not going to bother making up an entire thread just to say what I want to say.

Not to be a wet blanket or anything but 59k really isn't all that much.  Microsoft sure knows when to pick their release dates though! If they had had released Halo 3 only two weeks earlier, it wouldn't even have been a blip on the radar:

Sept 10-16
01. [PSP] Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - 487,000 / NEW
02. [NDS] Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Toki no Tankentai - 300,000 / NEW
03. [NDS] Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Yami no Tankentai - 269,000 / NEW

You guys are unbelievable.  I have never had a bad experience at any Gamestops that I frequented.  I never had anyone in my face telling me to pre-order.  The most I had was "do you want to pre-order anything else" after I picked up my game.  I reply "no thanks" and he/she says "ok".  Nothing more.

As far as Best Buy, Circuit City and Targets go they are horrible for having new games anywhere near release day.  I have tried on several occasions only to have them tell me they sold out and check back next week.  F that.  And if they do have it you better damn well make sure you have at least 20 minutes to spend standing in line because out of the 12 registers only one will be operating at any one time.  Those stores suck to high heaven for buying video games.

And you are not "shackled" to your pre-order.  You can shift it to another game.  I've done this several times when other good deals pop up.  Case in point:  I pre-ordered Mario Party 8 at Gamestop.  Circuit City had it for $10 cheaper.  I bought it there and (star)shifted the pre-order to another game.  No big deal.

Like I said I simply like taking care of things ahead of time.  It's easier that way.  How is this so difficult to understand?

You're absolutely right Starshifter-it's everybody else who's wrong.  Roll Eyes
