To be honest I'm not a huge fan of Japan.  Yes the women are what keep me here (my girlfriend being first and foremost!).  But I'm not a big fan of the food, or the temples or much else.  Don't let me discourage you though! I'm sure it's a great place to visit!  Tell us what you are interested in and perhaps we can give you some advice.

Well I'm 8 hours in and we've just left Midgar and Cloud is telling us about his backstory.  Quite good stuff-I can't remember any of it hardly!

that's not even mentioning that 50 bucks a year is nothing...

$50 a year for say 5 years (the life of a console) and that's over half of what your next console will cost.  Almost an entire console back in the last generation.

yeah...and over 5 years, that's nothing

No that's over half the cost of a new generation console.  I'm amazed that people won't buy a PS3 because they think it's $50 bucks overpriced.  Yet those same people (not necessarily you, Kepow) are willing to pay another $250 on top of the $400 they've already spent for the Xbox 360.  Madness I tell you!

That's fine-just don't screw it up for the rest of us real Canucks!  Mind your manners and treat the ladies well.  Oh and brush up on your Toronto Maple Leaf history.  A true Canadian bleeds blue and white-don't let those hicks out West convince you any different. smile

People who are unwilling to pay $5 a month for gold access can, I suspect, wait 7 days to get a demo.

It could also be said that people who are dumb enough to pay for online content will....be content to know that they're getting something for their money?  Hmm that didn't come out the way it sounded in my head smile

Interesting. I was wondering if I should do that with mine.  Are the graphics any better at all?  The texture smoothing that the PS2 does helps get rid of some of FF7's warts smile

I think we've already got a few blogs going around here don't we?  Godzilla Blitz is doing one of his playthrough of the entire FF series-in Japanese.  And someone else is doing one on all the RPG's for the Playstation!  To be honest, I'm having a hard enough time finishing the damn games without doing all that work on a blog! smile

Played about 35 hours of FF7, 30 hours of FF9, and about 40 hours of FFX.  I never beat any of them though.

105 hours of JRPG without finishing any of the games?  icon_eek

I think I'd rather shave my head with a cheese grater while chewing on tin foil.

Yeah it's pretty sad-talk about a waste.  I've done that with a lot of games actually.  30 or 40 hours in Chrono Cross-never finished it.  25 hours into Xenosaga-never finished it.  I managed to finish Ico because it was only about 10 hours!  I put about 17 hours into Okami and never finished it.  Talk about a waste of god damn time!!  The problem with RPG's is that once you step away for a while it's really hard to get back into it.  You forget the story and what the heck you're supposed to be doing.  You guys are right- four games in a month is a little bit much.  My goal for December will be to beat FF7 only.
4652  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Four Final Fantasy's in one month? on: December 03, 2007, 11:26:53 PM
I have a confession-I have never actually finished a FF game.  I beat FF Tactics but I played with a friend.  Played about 35 hours of FF7, 30 hours of FF9, and about 40 hours of FFX.  I never beat any of them though.  I'm wondering if it would be possible to go through and beat them all in the month of December.  Is it do you think?  If I start over from the beginning?  I don't have a job so that will help.  On the other hand I don't want to be sitting in front of the TV permanently for a month.  Is it possible to rush through them without doing too much grinding and very few sidequests and finish them in say 30 hours or 35 hours?

Ok clocking in at 42 minutes this was way too long to watch all of it but I was very impressed by the first five minutes! It seems very professionally done (for amateurs) and in just the first five minutes you'll see a lot of hallmarks of the FF series (and RPG's in general).  Fantastic job!

Tons of people are giving a score of one on Gamespot's site lol.  I can guarantee you that Eidos will not be happy about THAT publicity, whether things went down the way the Penny Arcade guys say.  I hope he got fired for the reasons stated because if he didn't I could see how someone might have a serious slander case on their hands.

MGS has always been popular.  At least since the PSOne days anyways.  When it came down to which console you were going to buy (N64 or Playstation) you either went with Zelda or you went with Metal Gear Solid.  At least I did anyways!  People may not be so amazed with MGS now but way back in 1998 (or whenever it came out) it was the shit!!!
4665  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Unreal Tournament 3-who's in? on: November 29, 2007, 12:17:32 PM
Any hype for this game?  I dont remember seeing any threads on it.  It's supposed to be released on December 12th.  Normally I wouldn't be pumped as I despise FPS games on the console, however we've FINALLY got a developer who is willing to include mouse and keyboard support.  I have given up playing the PC upgrade race but I still enjoy playing the occasional shooter.  My laptop runs HL2 decently with some of the settings turned down but I don't even bother to try the more recent releases.  I know some people refuse to entertain the idea of a m+kb in the living room but I have absolutely no problem with it.  I also like the fact that any mod for the PC should also work for the PS3.  I hope that includes full conversions!  Hopefully after Unreal 3, m+kb support will become standard for future games in the genre (and maybe other games, ie RTS).
4666  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Eye of Judgement - Booster Pack(s) on: November 29, 2007, 11:45:25 AM
I think they would have to prove that they actually sent you that much.  Which might be difficult because if they could prove it then they probably wouldn't have screwed up anyways.  You could always say you only received 3 booster packs-I don't see what they could do.

Well I just finished the second mission of the German campaign.  What a fantastic little game! Best TBS game on the DS bar none in my opinion!! I managed to get a three star victory on the Norway campaign again but I came up just short on taking out all five coastal bunkers.  I should have:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Sent a larger force up the right hand flank of Norway and sent my navy up along the coast to take out that last bunker.

Anybody up for a multiplayer game?  I'm looking forward to trying out that side of the game.

Things seem to be going well for the PSP.  I read in the newspaper today that the new PSP in Japan has sold a million units in...actually I'm not sure.  Two months?  Anyways they hit that mark faster than they did with the original PSP.  Not sure if it will ever be able to catch the DS but it's got a big black behemoth on their tail now.

Great race! It's more of a sport than F1 or NASCAR as far as I'm concerned.  My Dad is and my Grandpa was big into horses.  I think that my Grandpa might have had some connection to Secretariat as he had mares that were bred to the some of the big race horses.

By the way ATB, if you really like this type of game then I highly recommend checking out Matrix Games' Commander: Europe at War.  And by 'check out' I mean buy, since Matrix Games has their terrible no demo policy.  However if you're a fan of Panzer Tactics or Panzer General then I can pretty much guarantee that you will like this game.  It's slightly more complex (research is involved) and there are supply rules (cutting off an enemy means cutting of their supply) but it's still a really great 'beer 'n' pretzels' type game.  As the name suggests it's on a slightly larger scale (all of Europe) but the gameplay is still exactly the same.  One change I really love is the realistic oil supply.  Basically all of your units (except infantry) consume oil.  So if you build up a serious armoured force then you are going to be begging for oil.  And you can't just magically turn fame points into oil either.  The only way to get it is to capture oil fields.  Which means that as the Germans, instead of driving straight to Moscow as you might in any other game, you may choose to make a stab for the oil rich areas of Caucasus.  Or maybe try what Hitler did and try to accomplish both at once!
Anyways if you're looking for something more after finishing PT and you're not quite ready to dive into War in the Pacific then I highly recommend CEAW.
4678  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Panzer Tactics DS on: November 23, 2007, 11:34:04 PM
How did you do in the first mission by the way?  I managed to capture all the cities in 9 days without losing a unit.  I don't think I bought a unit either.  I was rewarded 3500 fame points for a total of about 4600.

4680  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Panzer Tactics DS on: November 23, 2007, 12:17:52 PM
So basically only ATB, Godzilla Blitz, BlackJack and myself have the game?  Frogstar has it but it isn't his cup of tea. That's disappointing.  I was hoping more people would be getting this game.  I just finished the tutorials and am loving it right now.  FAR better than Age of Empires ever was.  Considering how shit the online matchmaking portion is it will be difficult to get much of an online community going I think.  Perhaps if more people get the game we could set up a Panzer Tactics ladder! smile
