Merry Christmas!
4562  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Anyone Here Have a Gmail Account? on: December 25, 2007, 09:20:53 AM
Oh well  I currently have 261 spam in my spam box.  But to be perfectly honest I never actually open up Gmail.  I've got the Gmail theme on my iGoogle homepage and I just download all my email using Mozilla Thunderbird.  So I never actually see any spam.  Although I understand how that could be annoying smile
4563  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: So, what did you get for Christmas? on: December 25, 2007, 09:14:17 AM
Damn I can't wait for the life when I start getting TV's for Christmas!  I got some sweaters, a bathrobe, a three year diary.  Maybe that's about it!

Bleh do people still play deathmatch maps like that?  That is so 1998.  I couldn't imagine going back to regular deathmatch like that.  Counterstrike, Day of Defeat, BF2-wave of the future!

Sorry for being lazy, but is the MP online?  Any other options?

It has 8 tracks, and 8-player online capability although I haven't tried online yet-just splitscreen multiplayer.  Apparently the game has leaderboards as well.
4568  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] Toy Home on: December 22, 2007, 04:30:36 AM
Well I ended up buying this yesterday.  I had a friend over and was showing him some of the games for it.  We played a little of Toy Home demo.  We both tried the single player portion once and then we tried the multiplayer- God DAMN that multiplayer is fun as HELL!!!  I bought the full game online right away. It's like Mario Kart but with no actual race! The whole point to the multiplayer game is to race around collecting all these coins.  You can also collect special power ups which give you abilities (crayon homing missiles, proximity homing bombs, spring jump, invisible, 20 ton weight that you can drop on people.  If you run into the other players or hit them with missles or bomb or what not, they'll lose a lot of the coins that they've collected and you can race around and steal them.  For 10 bucks it's a fantastic party game.  I've never had so much fun before-it was fantastic!

I think eventually yes.  I suppose EVERY console is doomed to fail eventually but not before that specific generation is over!  I would guess that over the next couple of years we'll see a 100% failure ratio for the original 360's.
4570  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Eye of Judgment out Oct 24 - card-based game (think Magic) for the PS3 on: December 22, 2007, 03:42:10 AM
I saw that this game has sold about 120k copies.  What do you consider that?  Success? Failure?  Enough to warrant a sequel?
4571  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The PS3 Unreal Tournament 3 thread (first user-created map now available!) on: December 21, 2007, 10:25:55 AM
Yep I was right.  As much as I like Penny Arcade, they are full of shit this time.

You will have to cook ypur mods for the PS3 specifically. You will also need removable media (memory card, USB drive, etc) to transfer the mod from your PC to your PS3.

If they bought a PS3 that didn't come with any USB slots then someone must have really fucked them in the ass.  Either that or those Penny Arcade guys aren't quite as bright as I give them credit for.  Shame on them for spreading rumors like that.
4572  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The PS3 Unreal Tournament 3 thread (first user-created map now available!) on: December 21, 2007, 10:19:29 AM
I don't really get that.  I didnt even know there were a such thing as PS3 memory cards.  Can you not simply use a USB flash drive?  If you can then I don't see what the big deal is.  Any self-respecting PC owner probably has a couple of those lying around at the very least.
4573  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What's your GOAT of the year for 2007? on: December 20, 2007, 11:19:04 PM
Obviously we need a third category.  GOTY, EGAD (Exceptionally Gawd-Awful Drivel) and OH GOD! (Over-Hyped Game Overall Disappointing!)

There ya go.  Now we can discuss this civilized-like.  Feel free to make the new threads.
4574  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Console Exclusives - Something I just don't understand... on: December 20, 2007, 01:16:32 PM
Well according to Wikipedia, Final Fantasy 12 sold 1.76 million copies in its first week of release in Japan.  Dragon Quest 8 on the other hand sold 2.2 million in two days
4575  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New firmware for PS3 (2.10) - More videos supported on: December 20, 2007, 11:40:42 AM
Here's another question-how do I get it to play ALL of my music files?  It always just plays the one piece of music and then stops.  I want to to randomly play ALL of my music!
4576  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New firmware for PS3 (2.10) - More videos supported on: December 20, 2007, 11:39:23 AM
I'm using Nero Media Share.  I didn't bother scanning for files-I just added the folders that I wanted shared. It was easy as pie.  My only problem is that when Nero is transcoding on the fly the video files are absolutely unwatchable.  I can't seem to pause the video and let it buffer either.
4577  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New firmware for PS3 (2.10) - More videos supported on: December 20, 2007, 09:18:45 AM
Does the PS3 not allow the stream to buffer?  Because when Nero transcodes it to MPEG 2 (since the PS3 wont play my Xfiles avi's) it's choppy as hell.  I thought maybe I could just hit the pause button and let it buffer like you can with YouTube but for some reason I can't pause.
4578  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New firmware for PS3 (2.10) - More videos supported on: December 20, 2007, 07:46:24 AM
Bingo! I'm not having much luck with the video though.  My X-Files episodes say "data unsupported" or something like that.  But I'm pretty sure they're Xvid/AVI or whatever.
4579  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New firmware for PS3 (2.10) - More videos supported on: December 20, 2007, 07:31:42 AM
I've tried the Nero MediaShare thingamabober.  We'll see how that works.

Ok so im gonna need a tutorial on how to set this up.  My PS3 doesnt pick up my laptop at all.  I've gone to Network connections and run the Network Setup wizard but the only thing it sees is my Local Area Connection ethernet card and it doesn't seem to have the wireless doohickey.  Obviously I have no idea what I'm doing.  Someone please help smile

Hmm, not sure how you can say that.  DQ is bigger, sure, but AFAIK every FF title still sells more in Japan than the US.

Well I admit my evidence is only anecdotal.  Usually when I ask people if they like Final Fantasy they say no, not really but they love Dragon Quest.

Yeah regarding PS3 sales... if Madden isn't selling crazygonuts #s, I don't think any FF will do what it did in the past.  Stateside, anyway.  God knows those crazy azns will run with it like a retard with scissors.

Actually really, it's the Americans who love Final Fantasy not the Japanese.  The Japanese would run like that for a new Dragon Quest.  I hope the FF series never goes to the 360? Why?  Just because I read so often 360 owners gloating over how they have one less reason to buy a PS3 every time Sony loses an exclusive.  I just want something to stick in their craw.  That's the only reason really smile

Ahhh.  Now I feel like a big idiot for buying a Japanese PS3 instead of a North American one frown

Just for clarification, PS3's can't play multi-region PSOne games can they?  I know they can't play multi-region PS2 games.

Jeanne D'Arc is my GOTY one moment and my GOAT the next.  I took the UMD out tonight and literally whipped it against the wall.  Fortunately (maybe unfortunately?) it did not break.  Believe me I am not an angry gamer-that's the first time in my life I've ever done that.  But a combination of their god-damn fucking "everyone must live" and 12 turn maximum made me absolutely livid tonight.  It took me four attempts to get through one of the levels tonight (the one where you have to jump over the castle walls).  How in God's name could they believe that putting a turn limit into the game makes it more fun?  It's just goddamn ridiculous.  I don't want to fucking work.  I don't want to waste three fucking hours playing one level.  I want to enjoy the game and I don't ever want to be "stuck".

I wonder if Crisis Core is going to be as big in the US as it was in Japan.  Didn't it sell like 500,000 copies in the first week in Japan?

Well after shooting up from last to 4th place in just over a month, I've officially retired.  After watching the "An Inconvenient Truth" documentary I've decided that I can help do my part by NOT leaving my PS3 running 24/7.  I realize that it's a trade off, human health over world health but to be honest the last thing this world needs is MORE people.
4591  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New trailers - FFXIII and FF Versus XIII - PS3 exclusives on: December 17, 2007, 07:21:29 AM
Well I count that one as some kind of off-shoot, not technically part of the FF 1-12 (minus 11) series.
4592  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New trailers - FFXIII and FF Versus XIII - PS3 exclusives on: December 17, 2007, 06:00:14 AM
So is the main protagonist (redundant?) actually a woman this time around?  Is that a first for the series?  I mean, the male leads have always looked like women but this is the first time for it to be an actual woman correct?

Eurogamer just gave it an 8 but pretty much tore it a new asshole, calling one game broken, the other nearly unplayable, and on the whole an awful conversion.

That actually ranks quite poorly on the 8 to 9.5 scale!

Actually it's quite easy to get a Wii in Japan nowadays.  I mean according to that article they only sold 180k in November (as opposed to something like 1 million in America) so they're not really hard to find.

Oooh I can put that game on my cell phone.  Actually I've seen people playing RPG's on their cell phones and looks totally fun!  The DS is portable and all but I rarely carry it around with me unless I happen to be going on a fairly long excursion.  Your cell phone on the other hand, you have on you 24/7 (at least we do in Japan biggrin).  I would definitely be picking this up if it wasn't for the language barrier.
