Well I've been boycotting Gamespot since the outbreak (except for a couple of times when I didnt really have much other choice).  I wonder how many people who had sworn never to use Gamespot again have since gone back to the fold.

That's why you go to places where you can get nomihodae (all you can drink).  If you wanna really live then I suggest going to a nomihodae/tabehodae yakiniku restaurant.  You can drink as much as you can and eat (and grill yourself) as much meat as you can for about 2 hours for about $25 US.

Oh you're certainly entitled to hate him, it just seems like you make a point to make your stance clear every time Qt3 or Tom are mentioned here.  Was just curious why, but with the whole cat thing it all makes sense.

This is what Calvin does.  He is to QT3 as Turtle is to XBox 360.

Or perhaps he is to QT3 as QT3 is to PS3?  I just wish I could read a single thread over there about a PS3 game that doesn't denigrate into 'who cares about the game when we can discuss how much we all think the PS3 sucks?"

There's nothing preventing Microsoft and Nintendo from licensing Blu-Ray technology should they decide they want to include a Blu-Ray drive in their next console.

So basically for the next generation, for every game that the Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo sell, Sony will make money off of?  If that isn't genius then I don't know what is.  I can just picture them now "Please buy an Xbox 720! And make sure to buy lots of games too.  Especially the games! Why don't you get some Nintendo games while you're at it?"

Most people that owned an Xbox (original generation) owned it primarily to play Halo. With the attach rate being damn near 50% I have to wonder if the 360 may have peaked already. The promise of future and present Halo sold a LOT of consoles, but will it have staying power now that the big ticket games have shipped? Or does this really prove the Xbox is a "halo box" primarily once again.

The 360 has a much higher overall attach rate than either of the two competitors, which would seem to indicate it's anything but a "Halo box".

You're absolutely right.  There's also Rainbow 6:Vegas and COD 4 and UT3 and GRAW and GRAW 2 and FEAR and America's Army and Clive Barker and The Orange Box and Timeshift and Prey and COD3 and... (ad infinitum)  Oh wait! I think he meant "SHOOTER box"

Well how long has the DVD generation lasted? 12 years? Longer?  And it isn't going to end any time soon that's for sure.  Sony will make their money back eventually I'm sure.  As for "sacrificing" the the PS3...hasn't the PS3 sold just as many units in their first year as the 360 did in theirs?  I think the PS3 is going to make a big comeback-sure they won't be able to knock the Wii out but I think it will compete against the 360.  And come next generation the PS4 will have a blu-ray player installed as well-something neither the new Xbox or Nintendo console will have.  I know I bought my PS2 partly because of DVD capability.  I wonder how many people will do the same for the next generation.  Could it be that Sony have actually been geniuses all along?

Well I think this is good news for everybody.  The sooner we decide a winner the better.  What's wrong with Blu-ray winning?  More power to them I say.  Of course, the 2 for 1 deals will probably quickly disappear.  But still, at least everybody will have a reason to pick up a PS3 then!  'It's for the movies' you can tell yourself smile

Actually I think Mass Effect was overhyped and underperformed.  Looking at this forum for the past 8 months, you'd think that the release of Mass Effect was going to be the second coming of Jesus.  But it only sold 1.6 million copies.  That's fantastic don't get me wrong.  But if you ask me, if you're going to hype yourself up with the big boys (GTA, Halo) then you'd better provide some big boy numbers as well.

How does the DS version of Worms compare to the PSP version?  Graphics aren't super duper important to me but they're fairly important.  The only "real" person that I might play with is my girlfriend and she doesn't have a PSP-only a DS. I don't get into American politics too much but I was surprised to see that Obama scored an overwhelming victory over apparent "frontrunner" Clinton.  I know much about the politics of it all but apparently these early results in the backwaters of America make or break an election campaign.  What does this all mean for the Democrats do you think?

Ok I have a DS but it barely gets any play time.  That probably has something to do with the fact that I only own Panzer Tactics, Phantom Hourglass (in Japanese) and Age of Empires (meh).  Panzer Tactics is great but it doesn't do anything better than a lot of similar, superior computer games can do and it takes a lot of thinking time for me.  It's more of a game that I would sit down with at home in the afternoon and play for a long period rather than something I would pick up for ten minutes.

So, I'm looking for a game that I could play on the train.  Something that I can instantaneously pick up and play and don't need to remember what I'm doing or where I have to go (it might be a week between play times).  With a game like Panzer Tactics, once I'm done all my planning I find that I've already reached my stop and I just have to start all over again next time.  So what's good?

Here's another thing I don't get.  Forgive me for using IGN for evidence again.  I don't like them much but they have been around for a while.  If the Nintendo DS is so great how come they only have 14 games with a score of 9 or above?  Even the PSP which has been out for 6 months less has 21 games with a score of 9 and above.  The 360 has 26.  Even the lowly PS3 which has only been out for a year has 12 titles with a score of 9 and above.

You could say ANY successful platform has a ton of bad games.  The PC, the NES, the SNES (with more than half the library being "Super" something), PS, PS2, etc. etc. etc.

True, the PS2's first page doesn't look so hot either.  But it has the handicap that every game that is put out for it gets negatively compared to the Xbox 360 version or PS3 version.  The DS doesn't have that handicap.  The PS2 is also for all intents and purposes dead.  Sure there are a few more good games coming out for it but not so much.  Basically companies putting out crap and hoping that it will make money from the huge install base.  The DS on the other hand is in its prime.  There should be craploads of A+ games coming out to outweigh the bad ones.

Just a quick comparison of IGN's pages:

Xbox 360: 40 games/ 6.9
PS3: 40 games/ 7.4 average score (who says the PS3 has no good games?)
DS LIte: 5.65
PSP: 6.98

According to my totally unscientific study using IGN and Open Office, I can only conclude that the DS is a steaming pile of crap!  Anyways.  Insteresting thing to do.  I thought the Xbox 360 did particularly poorly even though it had literally 4 review versions of Mass Effect included!

Yes definitely keep the remote.  Using a controller for a remote is possible, just like it was on the old PS2 but it's the most retarded thing you could possibly do.

I don't see why that is, I can do everything from my PS3 controller with movies so why is it retarded?

Obviously you know your way around the menu a lot better than me.  First of all, instead of just hitting a subtitles button I have to open up the menu during the movie and search around forever to find it.  And sometimes when I try to fast forward or reverse (without using the menu) I accidently skip forward or skip back a chapter. Or it goes all the way back to the beginning of the movie. Or sometimes when I do get it to fastforward I cant figure out how to get the damn thing to play.  Trust me it's just a whole lot of stress. Having a remote control would be far easier.  Otherwise all our tv's would come with game controllers instead of remote controls.

And now I look at XBLive and other services where you just download to a hard drive and have no ability to make a hard copy.  Over time people adapt and accept these different forms.

Personally, I think it will be pretty cool to have everything remotely stored somewhere so I could go anywhere and watch/play/access anything whenever I wanted to.  Imagine going to a friends house and playing the game you own or watching the movie you already bought.  Or doing it on an airplane.  Or any other public access terminal.  That's the future, not owning thousands of silver disks.

I don't know.  With Xbox Live we're talking about $10 games (or less?) that you download and play for a few weeks, maybe a year at most and then forget about them.  That's a lot different from a $40 movie.  As for remote access, that's definitely cool but who's going to want to have to re-download their movies all over again every time they want to watch it somewhere else.  I don't know if movie companies would go for that either.  The files will probably be DRM'ed up the ass and only playable on the system on which they were purchased, a la Walmart movies.  And who will pay for the bandwith? We've already got Microsoft locking out non-paying members from accessing measly 500 megabyte demos.  Also what do you do when these companies that you download from bite the dust?  Walmart isn't gone but their download service is.  What if you had bought hundreds of dollars worth of movies that are now tied to one computer?
4600  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Ever heard of Afghanada? on: December 30, 2007, 07:41:42 AM
No this is not another one of those clever American politician puns such as Canuckistan.  It's a CBC radio drama about Canadian soldiers fighting in Afghanistan.  My folks bought me Vol 1 and Vol 2 for Christmas and I've listened to at least the first six episodes so far and I'm loving it.  It really does a good job of getting across what the troops are going through over there and I can't help but feel the same emotions that the characters in the story are going through as I listen to it.  It has really piqued my interest about what is going on over there.  I'm ashamed to admit it but until I started listening to this series I had very little interest and even less knowledge about what is happening over there and I suspect that it's the same most most Canadians (unfortunately).  Anyways I highly recommend it.  All Canadians should give it a listen and I'd even recommend to all the Americans on here as well although I will admit the possibility that you might have to be Canadian to get a lot of it.  Nothing personal of course it's just one of those things.  Just like how the show Due South could be a mega-hit in Canada but in the States was more of a meh-hit.

Afghanada Vol 1

The price is definitely right-you can get it for about $30 on Amazon.
