Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: What will Obama's Scandals Be?

I have it on good authority that Obama fathered two African-American children.
Yeah and I'm not sure which one it is, but the older one is actually starting to look hot. I wouldn't go that far just yet but I did do a double take when they came out on the stage the other night. I thought Obama's kids were little kids! At least that's the way I remember them. I hope I'm not getting old as fast as they're getting old.

Don't know if this fits under the category of good tactical TBS games, but UFO: Extraterrestrials Gold is now available on Steam for 75% off, today only (21 hours to go as of this posting). UPDATE: Saw this over on Metacritic, it's a User Review: Note - This review is for the GOLD edition only. When UFO first came out almost 4 years ok it was "ok". I bought it from Gamersgate and played it a bit, though probably no more than an afternoon. I would have given it a 6 at the times, though looking back 1 of those points might have been for the nostalgia of the game it tries to emulate (X-Com) What the Gold edition offers is just about every improvement that the community asked for with the original. Better ranged combat, better AI, better UI, tweaked graphics, moddability (some hard coded into the game - you want turn based or real time combat? It's an option. You want immortal, mortal or VERY mortal troops, select them) In fact it turns out that the developers took the contents of the top community mods and (shamelessly but quite understandably) hard coded them into the game along with the existing bug fix and improvement patches (of which there were either 2,3 or 4 depending on how you bought your original game) The result is a FAR better game. The graphics will still disappoint some (though they are much better than the original X-Coms form 17 years ago) and the first really good tribute to the Microprose/Gollop brothers legacy. I will add that if you have no money what-so-ever then UFO Alien Invasion is an option. It is not as good as this, but for free it's not too bad at all. Anyway, the original release was worth 5 or 6, this one is worth a solid 9 for fans of the game. I was thinking about this game too. I didn't realize it was on Steam. I like the game a lot. I heard from a review on Gamersgate that the basic version is better than gold because gold doesn't take advantage of all of Bman's mods and the gold version isn't compatible with the other mods. Still for $2.49 its hard to go wrong.

I'm still feeling quietly confident. I am certainly looking forward to an Obama victory just so I can see the tears of rage from Eco-logic. I could be wrong but I also think that you are putting way too much faith in the national polls and in the fact that swing states are getting tighter. Romney does need "many" swing states, he needs almost all of them. Obama can hang onto Ohio and take a couple of others and he'll be safe. Also, if a swing state was an Obama lock then it was never a swing state to begin with.

You'd have to be crazy to buy this new ipad mini. Not only is it super expensive compared to the competition, it brings nothing new to the table. The resolution is terrible. I guarantee next year will be a new retina ipad mini.

I'm reading The Devil in the White City by Erik Larsson. Wow, is that ever a good book. That is exactly the kind of book that I love-the kind that makes me want to go running to Wikipedia almost every single page.

When I go to websites like Town Hall.com (don't ask me why-I guess it's a sick fetish) I see headlines screaming out how Romney "killed it" in the second debate when he clearly didn't-even if he didn't lose badly. Even the most liberal blogs agreed that Obama blew it in the first debate. I'm guessing that Townhall.com has a fairly significant conservative following and the lines that they are being fed are just completely at odds with reality. It just seems to me that some people are going to be in for a huge shock if nothing changes significantly between now and the election. Am I confident that Obama is going to pull it off? Yes, fairly, but I acknowledge that there is a chance that Romney could squeak it out. American voters have done crazier stuff before, like re-elect Bush to a second term.

I've got a Galaxy note now and I love it although it's not for everyone. For one thing, I rarely actually use it as a phone. Android is pretty awesome though and as some one said widgets are awesome. So nice to be able to tell the 5 day weather forecast without actually having to open an app. Same with checking Facebook status updates or browsing through my latest RSS feeds on Taptu. If you're big into games then you're going to want to stick with iOS but when it comes to everything else Android is at least on par with iOS and even has some good apps that iPhone doesn't. Can't say much about Windows 8. I'm sure it's a good OS but I don't think it will be able to break into the market with the other big boys which means that you might be purchasing an awesome dead end OS.

For you guys with the black iP5, are you seeing a lot of wear and tear from normal use at this time? Chipping, scuffing etc? I have a reservation that I am scared to go through with due to all the reports I'm reading about light use causing signs of wear. I am a caseless 4S (and previously 4) user, and my phones look brand new after months of use. I'm concerned the 5 won't be the same and it'll drive my OCD nuts.
I can understand this way of thinking for something like a nice watch (I'm totally this way myself), but for a phone? Come on. Is it really that important. If it's not on the screen who cares what it's like.

So calling hrs were today. Or as I'm finding out, many people call this a "wake". The funeral is tomorrow morning. While I see this process is helpful and the "right" thing to do for many people. When my time comes, I just want friends and family to go out to eat, have drinks and remember me. This services stuff is just way too heartbreaking..
When you go out, you should do it like the police in Baltimore do, with your body laid out on the pool table and your buddies around you drinking and singing Irish tunes!

There are many people (liberals too) that feel the number is fishy.
The number of jobs added for the month represent the largest increase in 29 years. That is a fact, if you choose to ignore it or claim only the percentage increase matters fine.
The best article I've read discussing the issue with the numbers is on CNBC.
That probably has nothing to do with the fact that the US population is larger than at any time in the past 29 years. What's going to happen with October's numbers? With the holiday coming up will there be an even larger increase just before the election? Or will holiday jobs be adjusted somehow? I can just hear the screams of rage coming from conservative pundits in the beginning of November.

Just curious as to how many people have an account with Goodreads. It's kind of what I like to think of as a reader's Facebook although really all you are doing is keeping up on what your friends are reading, keeping track on your own read and backlogs and rating the books you have read. I find it really handy for getting recommendations of the kinds of books that I like and there are all sorts of little things you can do like make or vote on 'Best of' lists, take part in or make your own reading quizzes and set up and keeping track of your yearly reading goals. You can set it so that it's integrated with your Facebook timeline or you can keep it separate. I've found it very useful and I think it would complement our current "Books" thread very well. If you think this sounds good then you can check it out here: http://www.goodreads.com/And if you do make an account or you already have one then feel free to add me. This should be a link to my profile. If you go to your profile then you should find a link to your own profile (just under your name and main details) and you can post it here and I'll add you to my friends. I think most of us probably have a lot of similar reading interests so I'm looking forward to getting some good reading ideas. My account: http://www.goodreads.com/CanuckGT

I just finished Anna Karenina. Great novel but it takes a little more effort than your average Stig Larson novel does.
Could not get through it when I was asked to read it in high school. Hated it. And I love overwritten books. Why don't you try giving it a shot again? I definitely would not have made it through in high school either. Same with Pride and Prejudice which I also enjoyed.

Finished a self published book on amazon called Wool:Omnibus edition. It combines 5 different short stories (all the same narrative) and it was an excellent read. It's a very original post apocalyptic setting that I don't believe anyone has done before. While the author tended to be a little verbose, especially in the last 30 pages or so, it was a very well done effective story. Overall it's extremely highly rated on Amazon. Check it out.
This is on sale today for $1.99Ok I bought it. This actually showed up on my kindle daily deal email and I completely disregarded it-I've got to pay better attention to those things. I hope it turns out to be great. I don't think I've ever seen a more highly reviewed book before.

Would you go to a real museum to see a statue of Caesar? Is this really any different? Recent celebrities like Steve Jobs is pretty ridiculous but if they had a life-sized, life-like wax statue of Winston Churchill or something like that then hell yeah I'd be interested in going. Especially if there was information about the people in question just like a real museum.

Don't know why they would do that because when it comes to real lost addresses iOS6 is an embarrassment of riches. My only rational might be that they used a fake address for the same reason that you would use a fake phone number. Nobody wants to see their phone number up on a national advertisement.

Google+ is perhaps the only thing shittier than Apple Maps.
Off topic sorry, but what exactly do you find shitty about Google maps other than the lack of sheeple? That's my only complaint although because of that I don't use it enough to find any other problems.

The problem is that without crowd-sourced data, it won't get any better.
That's right-so you should all go out and get lost multiple times so that eventually you won't get lost anymore. Interesting Cult of Mac article. I agree with everything except for the Google+ optimism. It's way way better than Facebook but I don't see any more of my friends making the transition over to it.
