Well let's continue on. How many people in the US have contracted Ebola since Eco Logic had his latest meltdown?  50? 10,000? Inquiring minds want to know.

Wait, what? You shouldn't be able to delete a thread once other people have posted in it. I thought it wasn't even possible to delete a post once it's been read by other people.

Aww, I was really looking forward to bumping it in 2 months time when Ebola in the US is completely gone and asking Eco-Logic if he still thinks it would have been a good idea to SHUT IT ALL DOWN.

It took me another hour, but I finally got that last trophy and the platinum. I spent some time on Google to find a better solution than the one I listed above, and it turns out it does exist, but requires gaming the system and exploiting obscure game mechanics. For anyone trying to get the A Mighty Doom trophy, here's what you should do:

- Make sure your target is a level 20 warchief.
- Interrogate to learn all his strengths and weaknesses.
- Let him kill you once. It's easiest if you make an empty spot among the warchiefs (perhaps by killing one you have branded as well as his bodyguards. Just hit down after summoning him to make it simple) and then let the guy kill you while he's still captain. He'll get promoted to the empty warchief spot for killing you.
- Send a death threat towards him.
- Brand all his bodyguards. If he's only got one or two, brand other captains and turn them into bodyguards for him, until he has at least 3 or 4 of them, with all of them on your side.
- Send one of his bodyguards to betray him, and then start the betrayal.
- DO NOT INTERFERE! Just press up to command your minions to fight, and then let your bodyguards handle the battle. That's why you had so many of them. If there are reinforcements coming to the warchief's aid, kill them at your leisure, but let the bodyguards handle the warchief.
- As long as you don't kill the warchief yourself, he should not drop an epic rune (this is the obscure part I was talking about). Having done all of the above, he should now drop a rune that is exactly level 25. If, for some reason, a hate or fear was exploited by the bodyguards, the rune will be level 26, but it doesn't matter.

Here's how the level for the rune is calculated:
+20 for the warchief's level.
+2 for being a warchief.
+1 for the death threat.
+1 for knowing his strengths/weaknesses.
+1 for him having killed you before.
(+1 for exploiting a hate/fear)

3 hours for this fucking bronze trophy. I'm done with this game for good.
I had no idea the purpose of the game was to collect trophies. Sounds like a boring game to me.

There's 8k gone. I'm sick to my stomach. I wanted to just throw this out there and get a discussion going because if I state everything now I will explode or implode. Not sure which one, but I need forum therapy.
With the cost of all that "new"  stuff you have, 8k should be a drop in the bucket!

I mainly only use Tapatalk these days so I see all the threads but I don't see any harm with putting multiplayer games into the main forum so long as each game is contained to its own thread.

I seriously doubt that whatever the reason was for the change that it was for the sake of quelling the fan boy wars. More likely it was because they got an earful from MS for having a lower resolution version for the Xbox for the previous game. The resolution difference may not make a difference in what people see but I'm sure it makes a difference in people's buying decisions. And MS can't be happy about that. Of course, that could just be the conspiracy theorist in me.

Windows 8, from a design perspective, was a complete hit. It bravely took us away from shit like rolodexs and 3.5" floppy icons (both devices are irrelevant as anything other than old references to modern function).

Look it up - massive accolades from a visual design perspective - regardless of whether the function was ideally suited to 90+% of their business at the time (non-touch enabled devices).

Sofar I'm enjoying 10. 8.1 was a step in the right direction, and if they manage to get their store to sell desktop apps as well as native windows apps, it could be a tipping point.

I sure hope they have a newer take on the tiles though (keep in mind the 10 is a tech preview, where function is being tested over the visual updates they may bring about).
What does Windows 8 use for a save icon now?
Does it matter if it was a complete hit if almost everyone hates it? Does that mean that most people have terrible taste when it comes to design?

Interesting to see how neck and neck things were last gen. For all the talk about how the Wii owned last gen, they didn't really blow away the competition the way the PS and PS2 did.
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Re: Windows 10 announced on: October 01, 2014, 03:22:22 AM
I get skipping 9. In German,  "nine" sounds like "no". In Japan, 9 is an unlucky number and finally, if you're moving away from large updates every 4 years to Apple's model of continually updating the same OS do you really want to be stuck on 9 or would you rather have a nice round number like 10?

Quote
Iím going to buy an iPhone 6 Plus. Iím taken with it; it feels like an entirely new kind of device for Apple, and it has such a killer camera I canít say no. Itís every bit as good a phone as the iPhone 6; Iím docking it a little because Apple has a few software glitches to clear up. But Iím confident that will happen.

Thereís nothing here that competitors arenít doing with their big phones ó Samsung in particular is pushing the envelope with its S Pen stylus and multiple-app features ó but the overall package is so good itís hard to ignore. The smaller iPhone 6 feels like just the next iterative update to the iPhone, but the 6 Plus feels like something else entirely; with a few more software tweaks and some love from developers, it could really be my main computer. Itís as much iPad as iPhone.

But while Appleís early attempts to bridge the iPad and iPhone experiences on the 6 Plus are a little hit-or-miss, they point to a future where the regular-size iPhone, a bigger iPhone like the 6 Plus, and the iPad all turn into very different things. I canít see myself ever using my iPad mini again after having the 6 Plus, and itís getting harder and harder to justify pulling out my iPad Air. With the right software changes, I could basically use an iPhone 6 Plus all day long, for everything from sending messages to editing documents to watching videos. A do-everything phone like the 6 Plus would eventually allow Apple to push the iPad even further towards becoming the true laptop replacement it was always meant to be.
So wait, phablets aren't a terrible thing now? We just had to wait for Apple to come out with one for that to happen?
13  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Re: The forums - how can we improve the experience? on: September 20, 2014, 01:27:25 AM

I don't mind the redundancy. Sometimes we need to be connected but can't have easy access to our phones. What if you were a professional bike courier for example? I can't think of a more apt tech for those people.

6 is pretty harsh. Even Sim City got like a 9. They're no longer using the 7-9 scale I suppose?
16  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Let's talk Iphone on: September 12, 2014, 01:46:31 PM
I think there was some kind of supply issues with the 6+.
As for contracts, I bought my phone outright and am currently on a 3gb/month plan for $30 (no minutes included but I never talk on the phone. I rarely go above 1 gb in a month so I feel like dropping to the 1gb plan which is like $5 a month. If I go over I don't get cut off, the speeds just get cut to 150kbps.
17  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Apple Watch on: September 12, 2014, 03:58:07 AM
Aesthetically I like the Moto 360 better although I wouldn't buy it due to it's large size and poor battery life. The iWatch may be more polished in terms of software but if the iPhone and iPad have proven anything it's that you should never buy a first gen Apple product. The more I look at these watches, the more it seems like the Pebble way of doing things is the way to go. Do I really want to pay $300 for watch that doesn't last a day and whose screen I can't even read in direct sunlight?
18  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Let's talk Iphone on: September 12, 2014, 12:40:16 AM
Family sharing sounds pretty cool. Of course, I would have to live in an Apple family for that to happen. As for contracts-uhh, I'm glad I'm not one who has to be under the yoke of those things.

That right there may be one of the reasons I don't really get the thing. I am about as far removed from a "watch guy" as there probably is. I don't think I ever wore a wristwatch at all until I was in my 20s. The concept of spending more than like $100 on a thing that tells time sounds utterly insane.

I did appreciate from the article that he explained some of the things that would make it appealing if you are into watches though.
That's a perfectly valid opinion but really it can be said about anything. Why even pay $100 when you can pay $10 for a cheap quartz which tells time more accurately than a Rolex? Sometimes people are willing to pay extra money for things that they consider to be valuable to them even if there are similar options that achieve the same purpose that are far cheaper.

I left Apple after the 3GS so I'm biased but I'm pretty underwhelmed. The new iPhones' screen resolutions have a lower ppi than all of the new Androids (including the Nexus 5 which came out a year ago), they still use only 1GB of RAM and they still have that ridiculous 16GB base option. Seriously, how many years has it been since 16GB was the base? At least the screen is larger.

You guys are nuts. This watch will be a smash hit. You sound like the "experts" when the iPhone and iPad were released. DOOMED!
We'll see. The ipad has a lot of value, true. The iPhone is subsidized by carriers and people NEED a phone. I'm not sure how many people need a $350 watch that needs to be charged every day when most of them didn't need any watch at all.  Especially when they'll need to buy a new one in a couple of years in order to be able to take advantage of all the latest apps. I don't think it will fail but I don't expect it to go past niche status, just like all the other smart watches. At least not until it hits $100 or so.
23  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Re: Apple Watch on: September 10, 2014, 12:06:30 PM
Obviously not everyone is going to go out and get a smart watch but I think there's a market for it. Especially since unlike regular watches and just like phones you'll probably have to upgrade them every couple of years. Spending $350 on a watch? Peanuts. Spending $350 on a smart watch that you'll have to upgrade next year? Not so much.

They both look like you're wearing a toy watch on your wrist. We need to know more about the Apple watch. They didn't even say what the battery life is like. That tells me it needs a lot more time in the oven. Doesn't look like it can take a standard strap either. That's one reason why I didn't buy the Pebble Steel.

Nope, it's not a standard strap, it has it's own straps, many of them, which you can change without jewelers tools unlike the Android watches (and much nicer than the Android equivalents). Why is this a problem? I own a lot of watches, and most of them I would never swap bands, it would look silly. Battery life they said you need to charge it nightly, not a good sign, and that does worry me, but I am not a heavy user. People complain about the iPhone 5's battery not lasting all day. Mine does, easily. I am looking forward to hearing more, but the press people who were there and got to play with it seemed to like it, but they are Apple fan boys.
Obviously I'm not the target audience but people who are into watches often like to use different watch straps. It's really the only part of a watch you can customize or individualize. A good watch design won't look silly if you change the strap for something else. It should look better!

The band is part of the decision when you buy a watch, not something you swap out (which you can't easily do). People don't buy high end watches and change the band out. If you spend money on a watch it either has a metal band you can't change, or a high end leather band that you wouldn't want to swap out. People change the band on cheap watches when they break, they don't swap bands on high end watches (at least not normal people). The Apple Watch is a cheap watch, but they pretty much covered all the possible bands from metal to rubber. If you want a fancy fashion piece, this isn't the watch for you. And again, the bands are miles ahead of the Android watches.
You've obviously never visited the Watchuseek forums. smile

My sister is going to teachers college in the fall and is looking to pick up her first laptop. Knowing her, the most she'll use it for is writing papers, checking email, doing Skype with her bf in France. I suggested she focus on something that has decent RAM, a touch screen and is lightweight and has a decent battery.
I realize that the screen resolution is a bit low and we're not talking about MacBook Air weights but this computer seems decent and has a good battery life. I haven't been able to find any reviews on it though. Thoughts?

Actually, I use a out-of-contract phone and paying $35 per month for unlimited everything. Is that the same price as your in-contract plan?

I generally keep my phone for 3-4 years, so it balances out in about 20 months, then it's pure savings after that.
Yeah, there must be a lot of people like me who want a high end phone but want to be able to save money by not using the high cost contracts which comes with high end phones. I don't mind spending $400 for a unlocked phone if it allows me to use a service where I only have to pay $20 a month which suits my needs.
