do they have one for the phat psp and does it cover the back half?  i have some older pieces which are pretty similar, but no back protection, and again, no screen protection.  seems half baked to leave that part expose imo, but it could be better than the playgear

peterock, i urge you to try the xbox version of double agent and chaos theory.  both are much better than the 360 version of DA.  no headquarters missions to worry about.  the core gameplay is both challenging and rewarding.

But do they still have similar trial-and-error gameplay elements?  Many situations have only one ideal solution, and all other attempts end in sorrow.  You are forced to play the same situation over and over again until you get it "right".  There are rarely, if ever, any opportunites to find a different solution.  There's one "right" answer, and all other choices result in death and a reload screen.  Being forced to replay the same damn situation over and over again is like experiencing your own version of the film Groundhog Day, but without the humor.  After numerous attempts the game just stops being fun and instead falls into an exercise in frustration.

While playing through Assassin's Creed I found it to be refreshing to not have to replay sections over and over again because the game didn't like my particular solution to the situation.  I really like Splinter Cell and wish it wasn't such a difficult, frustrating game full of trial-and-error used to artificially extend game length, but each and every time I try to go back I quickly learn why I stopped playing in the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth place.  And not only is the game full of trial-and-error, but it's hella tough, force-feeding you the trial-and-error experience whether you like it or not.

I'm not sure I can bring myself to buy two more games in the Splinter Cell series if they involve further variations of what I've come to despise about the series.

it's been a while since i played chaos theory, but i don't remember getting overly frustrated with it.  it's not as puzzle like as the first two and even a botched attempt can be salvaged.  it's not "you have been spotted 3 times, game over" as much as it is "you have been spotted, expect patrols".

i guess a better question to ask you is: did you play and enjoy the thief games?  SC is similar enough in that you are not intended to be able to take on the whole base of alerted soldiers, but with careful planning, you can empty out a base one soldier at a time.  in small groups, you can survive just fine, and you aren't going in bare handed either.

too bad i only have the pc version (with it's unfortunate use of starforce copy protection) as i would send it to you.  i enjoyed it a lot.

indeed.  even the race sounds like fun, more so than regular deathmatch.

jak 2 was so bad i stopped playing it halfway through.  not sure if it was some race missions or what, but it was so consistently aggravating i quit.

that mission in r6v1 where one guy must hack a laptop in the middle of a stage while 50 badguys come at you at once.  your other ally is not smart enough to use the lmg the way he should and ends up getting sniped, forcing you to run into the middle of hell to save him, usually resulting in your getting killed or the hacker getting knocked out.  another moment where i just said F it and uninstalled after quitting the game.

I wish I could be an analyst.  Then anything I pull out of my ass would be news too.  "Yesterday, Chaz predicted that based on last period's movements, corn would continue to be a hot commodity in the coming buying season."

Even if EA managed to convince Take Two to agree to their offer within the next hour, there's no way that the buyout makes it through the channels it needs to in time to be able to delay the launch of GTA4.  That game is shipping to retail stores within the next week and a half.  Buyouts take months to go through, and Take Two isn't going to delay GTA.  If they were to delay it, and something happened to make the buyout not happen, they would be screwed with a spoon.  Even if that weren't the case, EA wouldn't let all the marketing that's already in place go to waste, not to mention that even they must know the massive amount of consumer backlash that would happen if they pushed it.

So yeah, I'd love to be an analyst.

i do hope you are right, but knowing where EA's priorities lie makes me nervous that they just might wait a bit for polishing and to time it around a major holiday

i got a wrtgs 2.1 from hrothgar and flashed it with open wrt.  slick little device and works pretty well.  much better wireless signal than what i was running before.

having a bit of trouble trying to upgrade it to x-wrt for an easier web interface, but for now, relearning all of those linux commands i've forgotten isn't too hard.

while i was looking at the hardware lists, i realized i really should have looked for a wrtsl54gs as it would have reduced the need for an nslu2.  linux custom firmware, usb attached hard drive and a built in media server for ps3/360/pc.

too bad they discontinued it.  oh well, i am going to get my nslu2 flashed with unslung and do it all that way.

sorry for the ramble btw.  i do recommend you look at a wrt54gl for upgrading, to start, and make sure you track the serial # for compatibility.

that's kind of annoying if they don't include the same levels and modes in the 360/ps3 versions.  of course, if they nail the controls right, it kind of makes the wii version it's own great thing too.  hard decision.

any reason they can't include online mp in both the psp and the wii versions?

Anyhew- my first refurb lasted just shy of a year...which was 7 months longer than my original unit...so you should be ok for a while.

a guy from work who's currently going through every final fantasy game let me borrow his xbox on saturday, which is why you may have seen me on the last few nights playing r6.  the battlefield beta is cool, but in all honesty, it feels very much like past battlefield games, only this time the walls explode.

anyways, my xbox is still going through "repairs", which means they have too many to deal with atm, and mine is still sitting in its shipped box.  it has been at that state since they received it last week.

i haven't had enough time to use those weapons, but from what i have grabbed off enemies, i have the type 5 for my up close weapon and the FNC for my long range scoped.  it's working pretty well, and i like that even though i don't have them unlocked, i can still swap out their attachments. love the type 5, and i don't have a huge preference for which ar to use just yet.  not much shotgun use except for a quick bit in the first level, but i can see how deadly they are

Is the 60 that much superior to the 80, BC-wise?

Yes.

Reliability on PS3s is FAR better than 360s.
However, I will say that the refurb center can be a littly wonky.
Keep in mind that there is no such thing as a USED Ps3 at Gamestop.
Any PS3 traded in becomes a refurb because of the need to wipe the drive.
So, the unit you buy could have been in perfect shape, or perhaps not.

If you're concerned, I would suggest inspecting the unit before leaving the store.
Have them open up the plastic packaging.
Look at the system closely and see if anything looks out of the ordinary.
Check the seams on the plastic case.
Check the hinged door where the memory card reader is.
Have them hook it up and let you play it for a minute.

I've had a refurb 20 for over a year and it's been awesome.
You can opt to buy the warranty if you like but it's going to set you back 50-60 bucks.

huge +1 for following this list.  once you leave the store, it pretty much becomes a he-said, she-said situation, and it makes it more difficult to resolve any problems.

check the serial # against the receipt as well.  there are a few cases where they scan the wrong # and then deny returns/repairs at the store level because they don't match.

I was somewhat indifferent to rumble until I played Lost Odyssey.  My god it's like they tuned it to MAXIMUM RUMBLE every time it gets activated.  "Hey that butterfly looks like it's fluttering closer." RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE.  And there's no option to disable it.
