like i figured then.  dumb cause for limiting it too. it's not like a ps3 in remote play mode is anything other than a static image.  if you could use the ps3 during remote play, then it would be an issue.

i really want them to fix the remote play function btw.  having to select it from the ps3 kind of defeats the purpose somewhat.  it's not like i always know in advance i would like to use it, and i like to have more control over the console when it's running.

Check you settings- if you have Wake-On-Lan enabled then you can start the PS3, use Remote Play, and then shut off the PS3 all through the PSP without ever being around the PS3 beyond initial setup.

i will look into this.  thanks kg

Also... as a recent new parent, let me offer the following advice:

If you think your wife can work a stay at home job AND watch the kid at the same time, I think you are in for an extremely rude awakening.  Babies are pretty much 24/7 for a good long while.  If you are lucky the kid will take a 1 - 2 hour nap twice a day, but it absolutely cannot be counted on.

My thoughts are that if you can't comfortably afford to do it on one salary, it's going to be almost impossible to do it, or it will be extremely *un*comfortable to do... we thought we had been total badasses and saved all this money while we were expecting... well, that stuff ran out pretty fast after the critter was born - and that was with both of us working full time jobs.

IF she is going to work from home, I think you need to count on it being only during times when you are going to be home to watch the kid.

+ hours of sleep i have missed to date.

fwiw, in 8 hours of scheduled sleep time, my wife and i were each up and feeding the kid twice, and for ~45 minutes each, including changing, feeding, burping, and then rocking him to sleep.

when you then consider that he was up about every two hours, it made for a sleepless night.  i figure i got about 5-6 hours of broken sleep.  she got even less as she took the last two "shifts".  she called around lunch time and apparently, he's been asleep for no more than half hour at a time.  it doesn't help that his sister keeps vying for attention.

if they sold sleep in a black market alleyways, i would be pawning off my games to catch up.

but don't let me down you out man.  kids are great biggrin

hmm.  jane A. M

my daughter is andrea jean M., so we have something in common.  jane was one of a few names we had in mind for her middle name, mainly so she would have A.J. as a possible nickname.

as to your daughter, it helps to know how many syllables are in your last name to know how it will flow.

You gotta put $10 down and the price is $84.95.

(Looked for a spit take smiley and the best I could find was a brown fire vomit smiley.)

sweet jebus that's expensive.  not sure it's worth it for a soundtrack cd and a smallish graphic novel.  at least the gta 4 ce has some good stuff for that kind of money.

i'm still pissed at myself that i didn't preorder it back on the day before launch.  they offered it to me and i stupidly said no, only to find out what i missed the next day when i went back.   icon_mad

man, those were some awesome pre order loot days.  now we are lucky to get a poster, or an extra level everyone else will get after the code is posted.  :roll

however, a nicer box + cd + novella + documentary doesn't do it for me.

In Oblivion, for example, my "berserker" character looked totally different from my "stealthy" character and my "nobleborn" character.  I think of a character concept and design the look of the character to match that concept as best as possible.  Sometimes it's modelled loosely around my own personality, but often not.

+1.  this describes it perfectly.  my mass effect character was chosen for this reason.  same with the godfather.  now, saints row was chosen just because i didn't want another white guy, just to be different.

I know Kevin Grey. Kevin Grey's a friend of mine.  And you, Gellar, are no Kevin Grey.

Kevin Grey is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. The mere fact that you would admit to knowing Kevin Grey positively establishes the fact that you are not the REAL ATB.

The OP should ignore this charlatan.

my personal belief is that "kevin grey" is itself a bit of misdirection at us earthbound types.  i think "kevin" is only the closest sounding english name to the syllables we humans can perceive, and that it is only 40% of the full name.  dogs could probably hear ~80%, although they wouldn't be able to understand it.

i think "grey" is his attempt at dry humor at our expense.  his bit of hiding in plain sight, if you will.

or it could be the 4 hours of broken sleep talking.  not sure really.

i'm hoping they release a demo for viking.  it looks pretty fun and sounds like a dynasty warriors game with a grander approach.  i think i'll try to gamefly it if nothing else.

of course, it's all still moot anyways as the 360 is sitting in a warehouse in texas.

not much else except wii shovelware and some $30 copies of QW for the pc.

i haven't had much time to get into the pc version, but i like it so far.  the robot faction has a twist on gameplay that i like and it's very satisfying to take out one of those giant walkers.  feels like more than just a really big tank.

fwiw, i grabbed a clearance copy of it at target for ~$13, so if you are on the fence, it's a great alternative to going console.  plus, it has a 1 month live card in the box, so it's a good value for you buck.

tbh, i haven't touched any of the rts on the 360, but as soon as c&c3 drops in price, i plan on picking it up.

Apparently over some of the weapon choices it says you can "buy" that gun on the Xbox Live marketplace.

First horse armor, now this.  Micro-transactions suck!

You do realize that this is the entire reason for the game, right? The game itself is supposed to be free (or really cheap), and you'll pay for extra weapons/costumes/etc that aren't supposed to unbalance gameplay with those who didn't buy said gun.

this one is free?  you sure about that?  i've always thought this was the single player battlefield game with the crazy destructible environments and vehicles.  what you describe sounds like the battlefield heroes game they have announced for the pc.  if that's really the case here, my interest level just took a dive.

that's my #1 complaint with all movies like this.  any time you have a great cast acting like a bunch of pr--ks, they always turn them around into doing something nice at the end. they always learn a lesson and always end up winning .  it's FN pathetic that we can't get a good movie where the bad good guy doesn't make a 180 degree moral turn at the end.

you can thank sci-fi for part of the snafu.  if they hadn't taken so long between s2, s3 and s4, they wouldn't have lost so many viewers.

What?  That's absurd.  There was only six month between S2 and S3- most cable shows go more like 9 months between seasons and it can be upwards of a year.  The wait for S4 has been rather excessive but the decision to end the show was made shortly after S3 ended so that didn't really play any effect on the ratings.

was it only that long?  i seem to remember it took longer.  maybe i'm combining it with the mid season break in s3.  of course, s4 will do that too.  icon_confused

no, in essence, the sc101 is a block storage san, not a file system nas like the other unit i tried, the nslu2.  i think i need to put one of the linux firmwares on that thing and just use it instead.

this thing looks great for backup and fast file access, but because it uses a proprietary file system, it's unusable with devices not equipped with the right drivers.

it looks like they are selling low to empty their stock as an identical newer unit for sata drives was next to it but 130 instead of 40 bucks.

not quite what i wanted it to be, but it's not bad for what it does.
9714  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360/PS3 media connection to a NAS? on: March 19, 2008, 08:07:44 PM
anyone here have any luck getting this to work?  i grabbed a 750gb drive and a netgear SC101

i tried this once with a usb attached hd and got nothing to work with either the ps3 or the 360.  i'll use it with whichever system i can get working.  i also tried it with a nslu 2 with no success.

the goal is to store all of the family pictures, all of my cd's/mp3s in a high bit rate and eventually, all of the dvd movies so we don't risk the kids destroying anything.

if it's not possible with the sc101, then i need to return it.

9720  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Recommended PSP games on: March 19, 2008, 07:36:36 PM
not sure of the model, but i still have the package from the one i bought.  never had to replace it and even though it's noticeably used, it doesn't obscure anything.  i wouldn't clean it with a paper towel, but wait until you get a protector as they usually come with a lint free, scratch free cloth.  best way to apply it is after a shower as all the dust will be out of the air.  sounds weird but it works.

fyi, if you get the need to get an ac adapter, check gamestop for their in house unit.  it's just as good as the sony one and costs ~15 instead of ~30?

i recommend the logitech cases over any other, but the playgear pocket is pretty rare afaik and it isn't a perfect fit for the slim.  it is imo, the best case you can find, and it has survived many drops without so much as a nick or crack.

that voip headset unit has been posted on a few retail sites and is rumored to be ~20.  it's not set in stone, but i think sony will try to hit that 20-30 target.

mem cards can be had pretty cheap on sale, so i'd hold off buying anything full price.  i grabbed a 4gb for $40 a few months ago, and have since seen them for 42 and 34.  you may need to check online for them.  fyi, check fry's for those prices or order them online.  8 gb sticks are rare and still pretty expensive, and imo, unnecessary if you can get good deals on the 4gb.
