i went back through my ps1 games and found a few i would love to see again.

parasite eve.  come on SE, this should be a no-brainer.  and that cell phone game doesn't count.
colony wars.  sadly, one of psygnosis' games which died when that studio did, same with that futuristic helicopter game.
einhander.  this should be a psn game at least.

second celebrity death this year i feel sad about.  with this and carlin's passing, the world is a few shades duller than it usd to be,  i always liked bernie mac and his tv show, and his smaller roles in movies often overshadowed the other characters in the scene.

he will be missed.

damn, dude, that soccer ball trick is just evil.  like the VC sending women with grenades to blow up in your face evil.

here's where it gets worse though.  if a marine kicks it and dies, they score a small victory.  if a kid does it and dies, then they get to blame us for the death and it's a small victory.

can't.  fucking.  win.

good to see they aren't going for a simple rehash of the first game with "all new weapons, cars, and business/rackets to extort".  i liked scarface for what it was so it's a good sign to me that they are describing GF2 in that vein.

day one purchase at this point.  i have played gf1 twice now and it was just as fun the second time around.

damn.  this actually looks kind of cool.  shit, between this and the fallout pip boy clock, amazon is really getting good at the collector's edition swag.  so, if you get this and the fallout clock, you can freak out your neighbors until the cops come.  just keep mumbling about the apocalypse when they get there.

i really want them to do this with the aliens game next year.  a full size replica of a pulse rifle?  hells yeah.

9690  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBLA] Braid on: August 07, 2008, 06:22:32 PM
played world 2, then went back and got all the pieces, (without hinting, i might add somewhat happily) and before i knew it, i was buying the whole damn enchilada.

i haven't been able to get 2 pieces in the 3rd world and only just started on world 4 before kicking off a new game in condemned 2.  (btw, how's that for an extreme contrast in games) and while i see the intended solution, i don't see how it can work for me just yet.  this is the set of three locked doors in the cave on that somewhat long level.  the other piece is probably a timing issue as i can't see to get up where i need to go fast enough just yet.

i love the rewind mechanic and how the glowing green objects work in that regard.  one thing i found on accident is how you can speed up your rewinding with the bumpers.  it really helps out with the green objects as they move at normal speed while you speed along.

btw, i loved the first boss encounter.

yup, best solution is to do as smurff said.  you might be able to contact the manufacturer and order/download an os image.  also, if you have any friends with MS subscriptions to technet or msdn, you could ask them for an image of the disc to burn.

My new drive from newegg should be here today.  I  fucking love newegg. free three day shipping and I get my new drive the day after i ordered it.   thumbsup

lucky break.  i had a co-worker with a clicking drive and it was unrecoverable.  single drive pc with all of her pictures, music, etc.  did not come up as a spare drive via usb adapter.  if she had brought it to me when it first started clicking, i may have been able to grab the data.  i directed her to look into data recovery, but she couldn't justify the cost to herself.

Let's say you download a game from the Market Place, say Indigo Prophecy, and get 1/2 way through it and your hard drive bites the dust.  Or 2 years later it bites the dust, whatever.  Does anyone know if you are screwed as far as that game goes, or will MS make good and allow another download?

I say you are probably screwed as if you went and lost the game physically, but wonder if anyone has any experience with this and knows the truth.

If what I suspect is true, then that negates me ever downloading a game at any price I think.  Which is a shame as I would love to do that as opposed to driving around trying to hunt down a copy of an old game.

while i haven't d'l'ed any games off the market, i would assume that it works like purchased arcade games, ie, you retain the right to download the game as many times as you want, so you would be able to replace the hd and get the game again.  even delisted games can be redownloaded if you bought them.

ya know, i just saw one of those devices at my local grocery store.  pretty nifty!

And dirt cheap, too, especially if you return the movie the very next day. And bonus points if you work at said grocery store. biggrin

i didn't get harold and kumar 2 back the next day, but even at $3, it saved me ~$12 from buying the dvd.  i average out much cheaper than the full stores and don't miss them.  no hassle from the damn clerk and i have never had a problem with movies not getting credited as returned like i did with hollywood.

nothing new full priced until mercs 2.  i have been picking up clearance games and selling them off when i get down.  i will probably stop using gamefly as they have been very hit or miss with which game they send.  something in the double digits will get sent out before something that's been up at the top for a while.

the last full priced game i bought was civ for the ds, and gta4 for the 360.  everything else has been $20 or less.

btw, mikeg, viking is a great fun, if a little repetitive.  i had a lot of fun with it and $20 is a great price.  now that i know about dark sector, i might be interested in it myself.

well, i picked this up on the cheap from cc and finished it over two days.  not a lot of game here, and i was pretty surprised that each episode goes by as quickly as it did.  i really disliked the caves in the early part and the smoke monster dynamite section, but overall it wasn't bad.  just too damn short.  i would have been royally pissed if i bought this full price as there isn't a shred of replay value over getting achievements.  i damn near maxed out on the first run anyways once i knew about the flashback items.

anyone want to try this can have it for $8 shipped otherwise i may just sell it to gamestop.

and yeah, the graphics were pretty damn nice, but i missed the little touches that were in uncharted (wet clothes after passing through water, shadows and particle effects, etc).  they did manage to make the jungle confusing enough to pass for a real one as i got turned around a few times.

after watching harold and kumar escape gitmo, i think i'm beginning to move away from stoner humor movies.

That's because Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanimo Bay was a bad movie. It lacked the whimsical fun and smarts of the first movie -- two stoners going to white castle = road trip movie; two stoners running from guantanimo bay = insult to intelligence. They were running from the dumbest villain ever to grace the big screen (even worse than will farrell's character in J&SBSB). There were too many scenes that were groan inducingly bad that by the end of it I was bored. It ultimately failed because they tried to do too much with simple characters.

There were some great moments though. The scene with the moronofficer talking to NPH's about his role in starship troopers... completely genius.

The Pineapple Express, I have high hopes for - because I find Seth Rogen consistently funny. Thug life.

i actually agree with that assessment.  even NPH couldn't save it, unfortunately.   icon_neutral

it was in every way a 'check your brain in at the door' movie, but yeah, it is to ...white castle what matrix: reloaded is to the matrix:  almost enough to cancel out all the good.

nph was the best part of it.  (excepting the pants-less party's gratuitous display)

his man card status was in question years ago, but i digress.  the real issue here is that the fabulous peterock did not continue the tradition with an equally fabulous dyson vacuum.  now his fabulous card is in doubt, and may need a temporary revocation.  that, coupled with his earlier forfeiture of the man card, leaves peterock on very unstable ground, man-wise.

for reference, the dyson 14 we have is so much better than the older bagless we had.  i would be interested to hear of such a bagless vac for that kind of money performing as well as a dyson.  so carry on with your experiments, oh man-drogynous peterock, for your news is duly expected.
