agree with what doopri said.  not only do you go through new items quickly, but you get so much on a single planet/mission that you almost need to stop and sell your loot every other time you go out.  i think i hit the forced conversion a few times because i didn't do that, and than i just made a habit of going in and dumping as much as possible.  you don't need to keep every member of your squad outfitted unless you swap team members all the time.  fwiw, i kept garrus and wrex with me the whole time, up until where i stalled.  the only thing i ever kept on hand was the armor as you can't always get good items for sale.

basically, i really only kept 3 synthetic/organic rounds, a handful of the best weapon/armor mods, one each of the grenade mod, and went to selling everything less than a rating below my highest gear.  i never kept multiple armor sets for a single person as i didn't see the benefit in changing out to suit a specific battle just for a minimal benefit in shields or protection increase.

yeah, she was a pain in the ass, even though i went there for the 3rd major planet.  died many times before i realized she wasn't taking any damage and just kept healing up

Cool, just make sure there's a category for the Atari Lynx!

would we put the game gear in with the lynx?  i had one of those and it was awesome, if you include "short battery life", "bulky", "small game selection" and "expensive".

9688  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP Advice on: January 28, 2008, 10:58:38 PM
depends on the version installed.  when you check the units, check the system version running (system settings > system information)  if it's 2.71 or lower, then you have an easier time and don't need a battery.  you may need a unpatched copy of lumines or gta:lcs.  i'll need to see which version requires which game.  basically, those two games allow a buffer overflow which allows you to downgrade the unit back to 1.50, which is where every custom firmware installation starts from.

for reference, i was 2.71, used the lumines exploit, upgraded to 3.52, then up to 3.80.  i'm actually looking at the odd applications out there now.
9689  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP Advice on: January 28, 2008, 10:33:51 PM
do you have any friends around with modded psps?  afaik, the only to mod a slim is to use a battery and a mem stick, which limits you to using a modded phat to create one or buying one off the dark corners of the world.  it's pretty easy with an older phat, and with that model off the retail shelves, likely to be a used unit of an older firmware (looks like 2.71 only).  it also helps if you have a friend with the battery.  that's the only sure fire way to bypass the sony limitations.

i have 1st gen phatty with the recent m33 firmware and it's nice being able to run more than just the sony stuff.  running the games via the memory stick is much faster and the unlocked option to overclock the system helps.

I still maintain that Crispin Boyer was correct about this game. It's not much of a game.

What does that even mean?  I would love to hear Crispin as well as your reasoning.  That's quite a statement.

I think his point was that you do everything you can do in the game during the first hour.  The rest of the game is basically rinse and repeat.

Note that I haven't played the game yet. So I can't say whether or not I agree with him.

actually, that's pretty much dead on accurate, what with the opening section with you and all your abilities/weapons enabled and up through the first target.  once you've done that, it's really just rebuilding your skill set and getting the same set of missions in each city.  it all comes down to how much you enjoy the core gameplay.
9693  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBLM] Turning Point: Fall of Liberty demo is up! on: January 28, 2008, 09:10:28 PM
i feel like your rant wasn't directed at me per se, but i thought i'd respond anyways.  as i said in my earlier post, i am/was looking forward to this game, just not as excited as i was before the demo.  the type of game is definitely something i like, as i did play through freedom fighters twice and it had at least as many warts as i see here.  i've also liked alternative history games like iron storm and resistance.  i've played many "diamond in the rough" games over the years and enjoyed them even while i find myself wishing for a better game.

i really enjoyed the feel of the opening and the way it played out.  i like the grappling and environmental kills.  i don't mind that you aren't the best shot as it matches what you should expect as a construction worker, even though it made the firefights more frustrating.  i thought the few sequences towards the end were rather dull though, as the nazi's did very little in tactical maneuvering even with a 4-1 advantage against an untrained civilian.  i didn't feel any threat as all it took to kill them was to poke my head out and take them out one by one.  the area around the cab was more difficult as you had no place to hide, but it wasn't all that hard to get past.  if they had made the gunfights more like mafia, where bullet hits were noticeable and getting caught in the open would get you killed on either side.  here, i had 6 bullets center mass into a soldier from the smg and he still killed me.  that comes off as a shortcut method of making the game difficult.

the graphics were not that great, but at least the environments were unique.

in any case, this was a "wait for reviews purchase" before, and now it's more of a wait for "GT'ers impressions before sale purchase".  worst game ever?  no, definitely not.  but it sure doesn't show much of a shine under that dirt.

it's all solid advice for wireless routers.  i take it you have one or more pc's running over wireless?  when you configure the wireless settings, use a pc hooked up via cat5 cable or you could find yourself partially locked out of your router biggrin

if you aren't going to use the wireless, turn off the radio/remove the antenna.

as for www.kqzyfj.com being blocked, i would venture you have spybot installed?  or something similar at least as it looks like an immunized site by that program.  it was immunized because of possible links with spyware and the like, specifically a company called Commission Junction and the cookie that site sets.  did a google search and found this bit here, so you should take a look.

when you say you reset the router, did you hit a reset button on it or just power off?  sounds like you wiped the settings completely.  i'm sorry if you did that on my advice.

last bit of advice for now.  once you get your router configured the way you like it, see if you can make a backup of the settings to a file.  some models have this feature.  it's very helpful if you find yourself starting from scratch.

sure, taken in context, a man claiming to be born of a virgin mother, fathered by the one true god, and able to perform miracles does sound kooky.  as does a man claiming to get insight from a burning bush, or a sacred text only he can see or touch.

it all asks the question, do we believe in these ideas because we truly believe the stories happened as they were written, or do we believe because we want to believe there's something greater than we can imagine, just beyond our ability to grasp?

of course, if the bible said that jesus had flown around in a stealth fighter and used nano technology to turn water to wine and feed the masses with a cloned fish, we would have probably laughed him out of town.  scientology goes over most people's suspension of disbelief.  L ron H should have made the lore less high tech and more generalized.

on the topic of the article, that's a pretty messed up situation you could be in.

"you are an illegal immigrant.  why, we don't know and won't say.  we just know with our gut that you are, so you are going back to your home country.  no, we aren't going to check your birth records, because that's how you'll get us.  we aren't sure how you will do it, but rest assured, you aren't going to get away with it.  prepare to be deported back to whatever country whose people you resemble and who will accept our word that you were born there."

Which is why I think there is more to the story. How do you decide a homeless guy with a southern accent is Russian? There must be more to the story than that, otherwise you could just say anyone here is illegally, something must have led them in that direction.

exactly.  did they just think he had put on a really good disguise and faked the accent?  does not compute.  unless they know of a southern-accent russian state we've never heard of, then he doesn't fit the profile.
9700  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Trouble accessing Google, SimHQ and more on: January 25, 2008, 09:49:51 PM
instead of running the tracert line from the run window, run "cmd" first.  this will bring up a command window and you will not lose the display once it's done.

and yeah, it looks like your router is conflicting with your modem for routing/dns data.  you could try the ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns options.

one question though.  how is your modem and router connected?

it usually goes like this:

wall ---- modem ---- router ---- PC 1
                                       ---- PC 2
                                       ---- PC 3, etc.

if that's the case, then it seems like your router is not passing the proper dns/routing info downstream to your pc.  try this:
power off modem and router.  turn the modem on and wait until every thing is back to normal (status lights are green, activity light blinking, etc) then turn the router on and wait for it to do its thing.  once that's done, your pc will reconnect and get an ip address, dns, etc.  do your tracerts to check

if that's not how you have it configured, then let us know.

sadly, i was really looking forward to this one as a good B quality title ala freedom fighters.  even though FF was knocked around for it's flaws (graphics, gun control) i enjoyed it.

this has some cool moments and i like the opening of the game a lot.  too bad the gameplay is flawed with poor hit detection, slow turning speed and movement, and dull encounters.

i finally got a chance to play mp with juniordan last night and it was pretty fun.  it wasn't quite "seamless" for me, as i was in the middle of beating a showtime event and bam! i'm transported some distance away and my car is back to normal.  i got the credit for beating the challenge, but if i hope it doesn't interrupt your play in the middle of a race like that.

the mp challenges are pretty odd.  some are dead simple (75 yds in oncoming traffic.  done in 3 seconds  Roll Eyes ) and some are fun to set up (head on collision mid air over the bridge.) i could see that being a good source of fun in the long run.  it may not unseat cod4, but it's a good alternative once in a while.

i like the class A prize car.  great handling for a speed demon.

the sp game is fun, and even though showtim is a poor substitute for crash mode, i like everything else about the game.  i could see myself playing this much longer than i ddi burnout 3.

beating blaster master on the nes back in the day.  that game had some vicious moments later on which always seemed to be the end of our game.

i beat sm2 with every character

two friends and i played secret of mana all the way through in one sitting, no saves or reloads.  that was a long night.

during the last map of the british campaign in soldiers: heroes of ww2, i had the luckiest shot and nailed the pilot as he was taking off, just before he escaped.  he had somehow avoided every bit of debris i had strewn across the runway.  almost lucky bastage.

during one of the early missions in homeworld, against the advance enemy fleet, i managed to capture and drag back their carrier.  this was much earlier than you get the ability to make your own, so i was very intent on getting this one.  he had fled to the limits of the map and had an uncanny knack for destroying my tugs after they had latched on, so i had to keep a regular stream of units coming to replace the ones he killed.  it took about an hour of slowly dragging him back, but it was worth it.

completing star control 2 and star flight without use of any hints or strategy guides.  two of the best space exploration experiences of all time.
