i forget where i saw it, but the "runner-up" prices were leaked out, so even if you don't vote for the winner, there's still a chance you could save a bunch on the one you voted for.  of course, it's still a lottery system, but at least that means you'll actually get a chance to get one, unlike last year's $99 core, gone in 6 seconds.

If there is a DVD in the PS3 can I watch that on my PSP?  I hooked the PSP up to the PS3 for the first time today.  It was quite cool.  It's pretty awesome how it's possible to say, find out while your at work that there's a great new demo at the PSN store, fire up your PSP and use it to remotely turn on your PS3 and then get your PS3 to download the demo so it will be all ready and waiting for you when you get home.  Heck you might even be able to remotely install the demo although I didn't test that out.

have they got a hacked psp firmware compatible with this?  i'd love to have the extra functionality between the pair, but i want to keep the homebrew and snes emulation.

no to mention that three innocent kills = death.  not sure if your health regens after that or if there's a bigger time limit before it does, but that's what they said would happen.

and yeah, i got into jerusalem by running across the beams over the entrance.  there's also multiple entrance points, so there may be some variance there.

the 'blade in the crowd' works great except for saving citizens.  they are just too close to one another to get them without a buddy noticing.  they must already be in an informed state.  i can sometimes knife two before they swarm me though.

i went to the pre screening on monday for razor.  it was good.  i'll dig up my oo post which noone seemed to read.

from OO:

the wife and i went to this last night. outside of the overly high volume levels of the commercials, it was a fun night.

the movie begins right after the admiral's death and jumps back to moments during the early days of the war. it works pretty well, as we get to see how the crew evolved from rank and file to the slightly twisted and cruel group we saw in the series. we learn why cain is such a cold blooded leader. they also go over many of the events that fisk told tigh about during that episode first hand. there's a different flash back during the movie involving a young adama. pretty cool and freakish stuff in that scene.

basically, the story involves a search and rescue mission with lee commanding the pegasus. he chooses one of cain's inner group to be his xo. it's through her eyes we see the flashbacks.

the battle scenes are great and there's definitely new material.

overall, it's a pretty sobering movie as very little about the pegasus and the crew is depressing. there's only one really happy moment, and it's cheesy as hell to boot. they also let on about some of the later plot with a character.

they showed us the tv cut, a few glimpses of scenes from the extended dvd version, and a few scenes from season 4. looks interesting, and i can't wait for it to start.

they also revealed that bsg is going to be released in hd-dvd. not much info, but the pic had season 1 on it and a handful of discs. the box looked bigger than it should for one season though, and no date of release.

Egon Spengler

let's see how this works, considering the purchases this week

i bought super mario galaxy from TRU.  got a $25 gc.  nothing of the sort at eb/gs, plus they wouldn't have had any copies any ways, where as i was able to pre order mine at tru the day before.

assassin's creed.  bought at best buy and price matched to fry's, saving me $22 and tax.  still full price at eb/gs
AC strategy guide.  bought at best buy and price matched with cc, saving $10 plus tax.  only able to save on this at eb/gs if i pay for a $10 bonus card, which would have saved me $4.

crysis. also bought at best buy, and pm'ed with cc.  saved me $20 plus tax as they honored the gift card.  still full price at eb/gs.

so, all told, my total cost for the games was
pre tax, 103 vs 180 for the games full price.  and that's why i'll continue to shop at those stores with sales or those willing to price match.  if i only played one game a month it wouldn't be a problem.
9690  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: New PC game sales at CC - Crysis for $30 on: November 15, 2007, 08:41:36 PM
i got a really lucky break at bb last night.  i had the cc ad as they didn't have any copies on the shelf (big surprise), and when the clerk saw the ad and that it said $10 gift card, the manager told him to just make the game $30.  biggrin

bb also matched the fry's $40 sale for assassin's creed and the cc $10 strategy guide.

I'll not be playing much more of the SP.  Just like R6 where I spent over 100hours playing MP but have a gamerscore of 150 or so, I likely won't get more than my current 300ish gamerscore.  I simply have no fun on Veteran, and if I'm playing single player and not having fun, what's the point?

it's really only for the bragging rights, both personal and in the group.  i've played quite a few shooters a second time through on the harder difficulty, and it's a bit of a pride thing to know i was good enough to do it.  i'd end up playing crysis through on the highest difficulty just for that reason, but they also change a few things other than the usual "hard mode" which i like .
9692  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Call of Duty 4 Impressions on: November 15, 2007, 08:05:32 PM
i'm getting into the very frustrating parts on veteran, where it's not so much about killing the other guy and avoiding fire as it is about draining the spawn points of 30+ soldiers at each point.  i really wish they had done this more like a hardcore sp version rather than throwing the entire army at you at each point.  not sure which level it is, but it's the one right after shock and awe, and if it wasn't for the reusable helicopter support, i'm pretty sure i'd stop playing right here.  i'm really dreading 'heat' now.  that was bad enough on regular, now i have to hoof it down the hill (in under what 5 minutes?) and do it where every enemy targets you and will kill you in two hits.

this is making the snowy russian defense mission of cod 1 look like a piece of cake.
9693  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: It Finally Happend- the dreaded Red Rings of Death! on: November 15, 2007, 07:52:19 PM
that sucks dude.  did you try all of the usual tricks to get it working again?

i had my first lockup last night on the elite bought in the spring.  it stopped mid save in ac, so your post makes me wary again.
9694  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Assassin's Creed Reviews on: November 15, 2007, 07:46:55 PM
grabbed this last night along with the strategy guide, as it was $10 price matched from cc.  i thought bb was going to give me a huge load of grief trying to get the game matched to fry's today, but luckily, the girl at the one i stopped at this morning made the match with little fuss.  and to boot, i also got crysis for $30 out the door as they "don't deal with gift cards, so just make it $30"  love that i'm actually getting the deals from bb that usually evade me.

played ac for a few hours last night, up past the first assassination, and i like it.  sure, it's not perfect, but it is a lot of fun.  i like searching out and killing the templars.  if you can't sneak up on them, they are a challenge on open ground.  they do fall victim to hitting them on the head when the climb up to meet me though.

i took down the first mark perfectly.  that monk blend ability is powerful.  i had him dead in the middle of a dozen guards and was able to walk away.  i also did that to a group of 8 guards around a flag.  as long as they aren't standing side to side, you can chain the short blade kill, and they ignore you, even without a crowd.  i've been able to take out a few saving citizens that way before they catch on and draw their blades.

the gamey aspects andrew went over detract from this more than the usual gamey parts of games, like health packs and exploding barrels.  here, it's not even pretending to be reality, it just is what it is.  i really wish they had buried the sci-fi ness deep in the game and not even mentioned it during the previews.  then they could have revealed it during the epilogue and it would have had such a hit.  plus, they could have made it a bittersweet ending, such as mafia's.  plus, they could have alluded to it all during the game with little touches, like the black cats in the matrix.

in any case, i played it a bit this morning, so it definitely has it's hooks in me.
9695  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: New PC game sales at CC - Crysis for $30 on: November 14, 2007, 09:53:38 PM
their online ad lists the full price for the regular version at $49, so i think that's what the manager meant, ie $40 after the gift card.  the ce is $60 regularly, and $50 this week.  maybe they intended a $10 sale by way of GC.

i was lucky (and apparently, pre-cognitive) as when i showed up at the tru i pre-ordered the game monday, i was only one of three people who walked out with the game.  about a dozen people showed up while i was there and all of the left in a mildly pissed state or wondering if the other stores had got it.  i kind of lucked out with the pre-order anyways, as when i showed up, the 2nd clerk asked if they were still doing that. the first one only did it after i told him that the only reason i was there was because they told me i could still pre-order it.

i played up through the first bee level and it's a very fun and beautiful game.  controls are great, the camera keeps up with the crazy action, and it's challenging without being too easy or too hard.

the motion controls are unobtrusive and you definitely feel they could have done this with a gamecube controller, minus the pointing aspects.

glad i grabbed it.  this should be quite a fun diversion from the killing action of the 360 games this season.

9705  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Assassin's Creed Reviews on: November 13, 2007, 10:52:13 PM
i've always held eurogamer's reviews in pretty high regard, so for them to say that ultimately, the game leaves you disappointed, makes me considering a rental instead.  they compared it to crackdown, and while i played the S out of that game, i played it for a week and was glad that i rented it rather than buying it.  part burnout by repetition, and part because there was little to do after the main bad guys were gone.  this one seems to follow a similar gameplay pattern, but there's something missing, as in taking down the lieutenants makes the leader easier to defeat ala crackdown.  the collectibles, which were fun and useful to collect in crackdown, are neither in ac.

they didn't reveal anything plot wise, but they commented on how the twist is contrived and disappointing.

it looks like their's two camps on this, and it comes down to this:  does the atmosphere of the game make up for the repetitiveness of the gameplay?  gamespot and the early reviews say yes, ign and eurogamer say no, and that the beauty of the engine are not matched by the gameplay.  i'd liken it to far cry.  underneath the pretty graphics was an average shooter with a mix of good and bad points.  if you bored of the mechanics, the pretty face only went so far.

i picked up a ps1 for ff7 and gran turismo.  i really loved the colony wars games and it's a huge bummer we won't get to see another one.

i really got into the ps2 when i started reading about summoner.  odd i know, but it really sounded like a fun game at the time.  of course, i didn't play it much at launch and ended up spending all of my time with doa2 and ssx.  i did finally get addicted to it a year later and played it from start to finish.

i got the psp as a gift, so i really didn't have a system seller.  sadly, it's my most unused system, second only to the game gear for all time.

360.  as i said in the other thread, mass effect is the main current reason i bought one, even though gta 4 is the reason i bought one.  there's a lot of secondary games that i wanted to play though, and i picked it up for every game not getting a pc release.

ds.  nothing in particular, but a buddy had one and i saw a bunch of cool stuff coming out.

ps3.  no single system seller for me, but next years games all look great, plus there's a handful of cool stuff right now.
