Hmm tempting.

I must be the only one here who thinks that lettuce got screwed into buying milk with a greatly shortened shelf life.
8403  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Faction : Guerilla on: April 15, 2010, 02:55:37 AM
Almost. I have a decent system from '06 that runs most everything now a decent quality (stalker:cop ran pretty well, as did arma 2 and opflash 2) but needed to drop the quality down to get playable frame rates. It lags down during heavy physics processing. And shadows are off as they look horribly broken.
8404  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: I'm looking for a game. Help! on: April 15, 2010, 02:46:27 AM
It's a shame that both iron lore and ascaron imploded after their games. I enjoyed all of their games.

Avoid space siege but consider dungeon siege 2. It was a great clone IMO and full co-op.

I would also recommend sacred 2 on the pc. Epic game and lots of viable character builds.
8405  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Dead Redemption gameplay trailer on: April 15, 2010, 02:33:06 AM
I hope they get a demo for SS soon so I can decide on it or blur.  Wonder which one the forum is headed to?
8406  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction on: April 15, 2010, 02:19:55 AM
Agreed.  Chaos theory is the best of the bunch. Fun gadgets and stealth, multiple approaches without being overwhelming and great dialogue from the guards. I'd go back and play it, but the pc version and it's horrible drm (hmm, that's ironic) don't play well on 64 bit windows 7 I hear.

Just got this in the mail today. As luck has it, I got drafted into a remote support session tonight. Blech!

I heard the can't move bodies thing was a time issue- they wanted to do it but didn't have the opportunity.
I'm not sure whether that is more funny or sad that in a game that took this long to develop they still couldn't find time to add it in.

It will be ironic if ubi Montreal's efforts here end up making us look fondly on DA as the last 'true' sc.

now that's a buzz kill right there.  post that in with your porn stash to keep teenage boys from twisting one off.  plus, you'll know when they get to that picture.

send it around to your friends who like fake breasts better than real ones.

8410  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Just Cause 2 on: April 12, 2010, 02:00:47 PM
There isn't even an achievement for 100% either. It's 75%. Much more doable, especially considering how much is pointed out on the map. The difficulty and 104 cars are a bit of a pita, but not impossible though. The creative kills are fun and a good reminder that if you just go toe to toe, you are missing out.
8411  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (04/12) on: April 12, 2010, 07:20:25 AM
Not sure yet, but I have sc: c in my gamefly queue. The ign review knocked it out of a potential buy
8412  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Just Cause 2 on: April 11, 2010, 05:17:54 PM
no doubt i've missed a few of the transformers, probably just recently.  while it's annoying to have that last chunk left, i wouldn't worry too much.  there are what, 300+ locations and you only need to get 100 for the achievement, unless you count the big 100%.  i've granted that i will probably never get that one due to the skydiving challenges any way, so i'm not killing time looking.

if you want to boost that # to 100 locations, look for the seaside villages.  i've found several which have only 1 or 2 items to pick up.

in general, i'll paraglide over the village and wait for the light to go off.  works pretty well and you don't have to keep running around buildings to do it.
8413  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Playlist - 4/09/10 on: April 11, 2010, 05:10:21 PM
ended up playing more borderlands than anything else.  god that game is fun.  i'll keep the rental until the zombie island dlc goes on sale later this month and decide whether to pick up the armory.  ms was kind to give me a 400 point code in the email, so i'm thinking about breaking my rule regarding games with multiple dlcs and just getting them instead of a gold version.

played all of 5 minutes with bc2 and ended up playing blur instead.  a lot more fun than i usually get from racers and makes me curious about picking it up down the road.

a little more jc2 to fill out the need for destruction.

not sure what i'll play today/tonight yet.
8414  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction on: April 11, 2010, 05:04:42 PM
that bit about swapping out sam for 'generic action d00d' is what sealed it for me.  the 5 hour mark nailed the box shut.  i always enjoyed the methodical 'high-tech thief' aspect to splinter cell and after the action levels of DA, i realized how much a break from the previous games it was and did not enjoy it.  stalking around while waiting for the perfect moment to strike was what i loved about the third one.  chaos theory was the game which turned me from being a mgs stealther to a splinter cell stealther.  it's a bit disappointing that ubi montreal is behind this one as that makes it even less likely to return to its roots.

taking the stealth aspects out of sc is like making a gta game into a canyon linear shooter without drivable vehicles.  could be fun, but it's not gta.

far cry 2 is the only game i know to take the original formula and tweak it that worked.  and even then, it was still a fps.  i don't see it as a sequel in any sense though, just a fun shooter with a cashed-in name.

Not sure where you'll be able to find a manual in paper form unless you buy it new. I'd recommend going to another gamestop and buying another copy. Return your used copy before the seventh day and you'll be all set.

That said, it didn't seem like an overly complex rts and there was a tutorial section in the demo.
8418  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Saboteur on: April 11, 2010, 03:44:39 AM
It's strengths outweigh it's faults IMO, and it really makes me annoyed with EA that we won't get to see where pandemic was headed. It's a great evolution and a much better game than how it was reviewed. They deserved better treatment than they were given.
8419  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Splinter Cell: Conviction on: April 10, 2010, 05:25:59 PM
It's in my gf queue, but I'm not shedding any tears if they don't send it my way. Mp sounds fun but it seems they left out the sp in favor of mp this time.

Also single dad this weekend, so I would like to get time with bc2 mp. Taking a small break from just cause to play borderlands and wither darksiders or deadly premonition.

I want to drop my backlog down a few notches, but it's been a bad season to do that. Too many games, too many sales.

Interested to see what they do with the story and how they'll open up the levels.
8424  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2 Impressions on: April 07, 2010, 08:46:53 PM
They need to tweak the team balancing;  last night there were three of us with four unknowns against four. After a solid beat-down the rest of our team left while they ended up at nine. We held on but there is only so much you can do in that situation. When I left on the next round, it was 9 against 2 before I bailed.

I'm still up for BC2 so if you see me on, I'll jump ship on just cause and get some mp going.

Any word on the dr pepper codes?

I still have a number of the achievements left, so maybe I should just wade out into the general population while it's still alive.
8428  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [ps3] ryu ga gotoku (yakuza) 3 impressions on: April 06, 2010, 09:00:51 PM
Thanks scraper. I took a chance on it and got it here used as the demo looked fine. It's running pretty well so I wonder if Sony added some form of upscaling to 1080i along the way or if sega just didn't bother to put it on the box. Whenever I see it's missing, it brings back how bad fear 2 looked when I played it last year.

I haven't played much beyond the gravesite portion but it looks interesting so far.

I might have taken advantage of that GS thing on red had I known about itinerary advance but at least I'll get it for $50 from them.
8430  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (04/05) on: April 05, 2010, 07:02:19 AM
Nothing from this week, but I do have darksiders and deadly premonition coming from gamestop thanks to their 25% off 100$ deal, plus a pre-order for red dead for slightly more than red + deadly @ retail.

That pretty much marks the end for buying anything for quite a while.

It's not quite what it seems; there's a lot of java stuff going on in the background.  It's pretty impressive for a team effort though.

The more missions you do for the repair guy, the cheaper his prices. You can also lower them a bit with vodka, but don't give him too many. I just saved many of the guns I found until then.

There's no doubt that the m60 is godlike for long range standoffs, but up close I like the m3's RoF better. Haven't had much use with the others except for the mg36, which looks good at moderte range. I should probably use the m60 until they break it to get another gold star and the 500 LMG kills.
8435  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: In this thread we list our (sometimes irrational) dislike of certain game ge on: March 31, 2010, 07:42:27 PM
Jrpg, as turn based combat has lost the thrill as is 80+ games.
Counter strike-likes. If it isn't big I scope like cod or bc, then I won't last long playing.
Fighters. There's no way in hell I'm going to remember how to pull off the right move when the time comes.
Dmc/gow types. Like the fighting games, there's no way I'll ever play enough to get the muscle memory to get through the insane portions.
8436  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Just Cause 2 on: March 30, 2010, 03:16:26 AM
In it's own way, it's like a mix of mercs 2 and the saboteur. You have this massive space to explore and objectives all over the map with lots of stuff to destroy along the way. I'll travel from one point to the mission and clear many of the little towns along the way. It helps to break up the 'collect them all' aspect to the villages. It also means that whenever I want to start a mission, I have more than enough chaos points.

I need to find a better jet for the bridges. The harrier and the X37 are too fast for that sort of thing.
8437  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Confirmed: USB Storage for 360 in Spring Update on: March 27, 2010, 08:09:14 PM
it annoys me to no end that they limit the partition size to 16gb.  i have several unused portable hd and there's no way in hell i'm going to bother setting up 16 separate partitions just to get the full use of a 250 drive.

this replaces the mem card, and for that it's good, but still a damn stupid limit and totally useless for most people.

yeah, i know it's so they don't lose the sweet insane markup of their retail drives, but i can't be happy for such a nerfed feature.

I can't fault the guy too much for waiting. He probably figured on the dlc being something he'd do on a later playthrough and never bothered to try it. Bad assumption on his part and definitely something that should have been pointed out at time of purchase.  On that at least I agree with. If it's sold with the card in the box, you might think it was unused. Not unreasonable.

He may have waited too long before trying it, but how many of us have done the same thing?  He'll, I bought DAO a week after release and only put in about two hours due to how packed the 4th quarter was.

of course, it won't help when you guys go out and get it first day and i sit back with 90% of my active friends list playing it.
