damn straight pete.  nothing else needs to be said other than take care of yourself out there kato.  don't let the bastards get you down.

somehow, i missed both this thread and the update in the other one.  how's that for obliviousness.  let me cook some funds together.

Microsoft Charges You $50 For Two Months Of XBOX Live

comments filled with people who have had problems with live annual memberships and cc's on file.

me, i would rather avoid the hassle and the risk and also because i have been able to get both points cards and live memberships on sale.

That was a single incident, not a policy.  It was resolved quickly.

of course, i know that and am not trying to paint with a wide brush, but when stuff like this can happen, it makes it even harder for me to go that route in light of cheaper cards.

i only have one of the psn games because i would rather not let them have it either, but i'm a little paranoid that way.  chalk it up to a wamu debit card fraud of almost $1000 several years ago and i avoid giving out my cc online whenever possible.

now, back to your regularly scheduled program.  i wish i had remembered to bring my system in so i could download and play it this weekend.

The original soundtrack is playing on this site wtih a review:

http://www.tracksounds.com/reviews/the_force_unleashed_mark_griskey.htm

I was looking because I loved the music that plays on the PS3 main menu screen for the game.  It's track 5: Approaching Felucia

The music is in the top right corner of the article.

thanks for that.  you can save the files to burn to a cd btw.  nice car music alternative.

checked two targets, a fry's and probably best buy on the way home.  i am not holding my breath.

damnitall, if they have it now, sell it now, competition be damned.  they'll still sell a buttload.

8407  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mercenaries 2 impressions thread on: August 29, 2008, 04:53:17 PM
wow mike, those kind of things make me a bit wary too.  there's even things which were much better in mercs 1.  you could place multiple c4 and blow them all up at once. (made some missions much eaiser as you could get far enough away before getting into trouble)  sneaking was actually possible, although i never did much of it, and using smoke for air strikes?  what, did they cut the laser pointer altogether?  if so, that's pretty damn stupid.

combine that with the ai, save wonkiness, disappearing items, and  lack of polish and it kind of leaves a bad shadow over this game.  i really hope this is not the case throughout the game.

there is full coop throughout roscoe.  one of the biggest additions to the game.  i wonder if they did that part right.  not sure about competitive versions or the details around coop though.

Won't be playing with any of you cuz you all are all 360 players no doubt, but just thought I'd mention that I got a copy today at Target for the PS3.  Had the 360, PS3, and PS2 version out for sell.  I am in Tulsa and got this at the 21st Target.  Probably HUGE ymmv, but thought I'd mention it just in case someone else gets lucky.

of course this never seems to happen up here in washington.

have fun mikeg.  how about some impressions when you get some time in?
8414  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Impressions on: August 28, 2008, 05:04:24 PM
don't worry too much pete.  it's still about 2 months away before fo3 and mass effect can be beaten in less time than that, especially if you take a more moderate approach to finishing side quests.  even if you do everything, you still won't hit 120 hours in one playthrough.

The difficulty adjustment suggestion was key.

glad to have helped you there pete.  smile

i think my current replay will stall out soon though.  i decided to go back to bully before mercs 2 hits, and then that should last through to the next big release.

it may be some time before i get back to oblivion.  hopefully before fallout 3.
8416  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Alone in the Dark impressions (processing) on: August 28, 2008, 04:33:54 PM
cheapest price is through gamefly for the console versions.  i could have kept the 360 version for ~$23.  it was a hard decision to make sending it back, and if they had sent me the price drop email sooner, i may have kept it then.
8417  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Impressions on: August 27, 2008, 05:02:16 PM
pete, drop the difficulty level down to the minimum.  sure it could be considered cheating, but who the hell cares?  it's your game and playing through the way you are is only pissing you off.  at least then you get through the 8-10 capital A-hole enemies without making every room an epic battle.

i agree though, the gates sucked after a while.
8418  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: 48 Hr Madness - Alone in the Dark $15, Star Wars games $6 on: August 27, 2008, 04:46:30 PM
i had some fun with it on the 360, and i do think it has potential.  that said, i sent my rental copy back in the hope that the 360 version gets patched as thoroughly as the ps3 version.

$15 is not much to give it a try, and with a pc patch on the way, it's not a huge risk.

8421  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Preview] Hands-On with Fable II on: August 27, 2008, 04:41:41 PM
oddly enough, release day shipping for this is cheaper than every option except 3-5 day.  not sure what's up with that.  of course, being in washington state, i get to pay sales tax on this, so it comes up to 79 and change, basically saving me the cost of tax.  hmmm...

i must have missed the extra dungeon content earlier.

oh what the hell.  ordered.  look for me in the funky green armor.
8422  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: How do I get the Fallout 3 CE version? on: August 27, 2008, 12:40:36 AM
it's a simple stamped metal hook bottle opener with a raised gel graphic and a magnet on the back so it will stick to the lunchbox
8423  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo 4 might be developed by Gearbox on: August 27, 2008, 12:37:52 AM
do it as a squad based game ala bia and you have a deal.  make it a prequel game set with a soldier squad during first contact/conflict and then introduce the spartans.

i really hope they don't just make this another solo centric affair with co-op added in.  while cool, the universe could be used for bigger things.

Tals

i did like how he timelined the creature he played as.  it wasn't the best written review, but made the game sound interesting despite the flaws he mentions.  damn.  one more game to move into the buy pile.

did you get it at bb?  i saw they had it with a nuka cola bottle opener, so i ended up getting a second preorder (craziness) but it works out as the coupon inside is for $5 off the strat guide, which i was already considering.  it will go nicely with the lunchbox, maybe not so much with work

mercs 2.  360.  day one, with just enough time to play it before a trip on monday.  IU is awaiting reviews and for me to push through lost odyssey.
8432  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBL/PSN]Star Wars :The Force Unleashed demo Impressions on: August 21, 2008, 09:52:15 PM
only got a few moments with the game before my boss came into the office  ninja.  he joked about it though and he knows how burnt out i am so it's not going to be a big deal.  i didn't stay long though as i really just wanted to see it for a moment anyways.  played just long enough to through a tie at some storm troopers.  not very good at that yet though.

saw a few moments of euphoria engine goodness, and it looks/feels pretty cool.  looking forward to giving this a full turn at home.
8433  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] Alone in the Dark vastly improved on: August 21, 2008, 09:47:50 PM
cool.  i really hope they get all of the important stuff into the 360 patch.  i've been holding on to my rental for some deluded hope that i might get past the damn "when bats attack" drive through the park bit.

i hope they just forgot to mention the pc patch for both people who bought that version and haven't tossed it out yet.

3)anyone know if there is any kind of Online?...hopefully there will be a decent amount of DLC

Last I saw somewhere...there won't be an online

hmm,not that suprised really about no online mode, just thinkiing of a way to extend the game,as i can see right now that this will be a playthrough on one or two difficulty levels and then i'm done(still wont be as bad as Lost:via domus though,LOL).. i hope its a decent size story

never did play jedi knight 2 icon_frown

too bad it's so damn hard to find nowadays.  were i not in possession of one of the CE copies (with flashing light saber keychain) i would send you mine.

jedi academy is also somewhat hard to find these days, but well worth it if you can get a copy.  not only did you have the dismemberment code, you could also choose whether to use one or two sabers or the staff saber darth maul used.

8437  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XBL/PSN]Star Wars :The Force Unleashed demo this thursday?..really this time on: August 21, 2008, 05:23:54 PM
it's always amazed me that whenever lucas put saber on flesh contact in the movies, someone lost a limb.  in the games, we get nothing.

full dismemberment code was a blast though.  throwing a saber through a group of troopers was such a fun visceral experience and it was something to see how many limbs littered the ground afterwards.

damn, i may have to go back to jedi outcast or academy just for that.  force jump, force pull a trooper up, land and wait for the body to hit.   icon_twisted

if this hits the same sweet spot as those games, this will definitely move up to my buy list, length be damned
8438  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Too Human Impressions on: August 21, 2008, 05:17:30 PM
if it weren't for merc2 hitting the shelves before you know it, i might have grabbed this.  they really should have released this early july for a good reception.  mid to late august means it's so close to the fall onslaught (something overlord pulled off pretty well last year)

at least it sounds good and that the reviewers may have been in a tough mood when they reviewed it.
8439  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (8/18) on: August 20, 2008, 09:02:49 PM
yeah, it's pretty annoying.  instead of getting it a few days earlier and having the whole weekend to blow S up, now it's about going out into the sunday shopping crowd and getting fewer hours to play with it.
8440  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PS3 160 gig on its way/PSP the 3rd also on: August 20, 2008, 09:01:11 PM
sony really hurts themselves with this move as they could entice the download market much more by advertising how easy it is to swap the drive.  put in the 40gb and then partner up with hdd makers and offer a discount on a much bigger one.  directly challenge MS' expensive single option and get that price down.  and seriously consider adding an older game like uncharted or ratchet & clank in the bundle without jacking the price like they did with the motorstorm bundle.

and a new psp?  methinks this has more to do with getting the already hackable psp's hardware replaced with something more resilient.  aka pandora proof.  this is not news to me, frankly, as the hackers had already uncovered references in the firmware updates to a new motherboard months ago.  they are also the ones who found similar references to the psp slim before it was announced.
