haven't been able to find a copy in stores yet....

i'm going to give it another few days and check around, then i guess i'll just buy it on amazon or something.

way to go sega with your marketing genius.  we shall remember you after the inevitable name resurrection in 10 years with fond memories and sad remembrances of your self destruction.

i installed it back in the day and the name was perfectly fitting when applied to the install process.  it wasn't even the biggest option either, but the way they stored the files took forever.

it would be worth it to dump the discs, but i know it would end up gathering digital dust in my case.

Exactly as Tokek said:  If your machine is getting wiped during boot-up, then DB won't get a chance to sync.

You can also uninstall it first.
8405  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Will all my games run under Win 7 64? on: March 18, 2010, 02:37:54 PM
If it was x32 win7, I wouldn't worry so much but 64 bit changes things enough that some games dnt work in compatibly mode. Even some more recent ones, such as 'and yet it moves'. It runs but many of the textures don't load. There was another indie game I had that wouldn't run at all.
8406  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Infinite Space [DS] on: March 18, 2010, 02:00:24 PM
How does the combat play out?  Real-time or turn based?  All of the previews I read on it were very light on those details.
8407  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [ps3] ryu ga gotoku (yakuza) 3 impressions on: March 17, 2010, 04:11:15 AM
i could pick up a copy, and was close to the other day, except for one glaring issue that is make-or-break for me.  the game says it supports 720p only.  the last time i tried a game that didn't support 1080i, it looked like a ps2 game.  it was ok then as i had it rented, but if i'm set to drop $60 on a game, i'd like it to look a little better.

anyone with the full game on an older hdtv out there?

or is the demo sporting the same level of detail?  it didn't look too bad to me, but i'm still a little reserved right now.
8408  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Dead Redemption gameplay trailer on: March 17, 2010, 01:46:45 AM
yeah, i think gamestop might actually get a pre-order from me.  that stuff not only sounds fun, but as it isn't something handed to you when you load, worth a little work to get.
8409  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Metro 2033 on: March 17, 2010, 01:42:07 AM
as much as i wanted to stop and grab this on the way home, i'm somewhat relieved that i decided to wait and pick up just cause 2 next week instead.  i'll grab this down the road when the shelves run dry of new releases.

and hell, i haven;t finished the last stalker yet anyways, so i have that for my desolation game experience.

figures, but it's not worth the hassle to buy it again, wait and hope it arrives before the return period is up just save 10 bucks or so (after shipping)

i picked this up during the holiday sale as well.  haven't had much time with it, but the mechanics sound really interesting for a ww2 game.

8415  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (03/14) on: March 15, 2010, 07:45:14 AM
Waiting on reviews for metro and infinite space. I haven't even played cnc3 so I'm not going to pick up 4 and never played any of the gow games.

Still waiting until next week for just cause 2.
8416  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Do multiple threads clutter the board or help organize? on: March 14, 2010, 12:46:40 AM
I think it's appropriate for a game to have a pre and post release thread as it is annoying to wade through announcement, alpha and beta news, demo impressions and 'who's getting this and why?' questions before getting the actual players' impressions. I also have been annoyed by those who feel it necessary to soft police a new imp thread just because someone created a news thread three years before the game came out with a title that doesn't get updated as the OP isn't playing the game after release.

There's no reason to continue an imp thread on top of double digit preview thread;  the BC2 thread is a prime example of this and shows that it works.

If there isn't an imp thread on release for a game I'm interested in, I will make one,  simple as that.

I don't have you on my friends list Kagath.

Don't worry about how you match up against hark and kato.  Those two are consistently ranked in the top 10k. globally, so it's no shock they out rank the rest of us.

as am am i

I snagged a copy from GS on the way home last night and may have turned the guy who sold it to me into a sale.

Seeing as how the damn BC2 severs are wonky this weekend, I may boot it up and check it out.

Bonus c@&kpoints if it's a JC1/2 bundle.

So, what's left for sales?  Soul reaver? FF7,8?
8425  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Just Cause 2 demo now up on: March 10, 2010, 09:44:37 PM
E first one doesn't quite measure up after the years IMO as it lacks a lot of polish and is very repetitive. I tried it on the pc and then on 360 and it comes off as an xbox game with prettier graphics. The spawling nature of the islands only highlighted how empty everything was and there was no real variety to the side

I enjoyed it despite this and played it quite a bit, but never finished it.
8426  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Spec Ops: The Line? on: March 10, 2010, 09:37:03 PM
Not sure Spec Ops can be in the same class as the big names, but if they can bring out some of the black hawk down sort of game, it could be a fun diversion.

You Fallout/PoP mashup threw me off at first, but it makes
sense in a way.

How do suck games like this get sequels and Gladius never did and Beyond Good And Evil does/doesn't/does/doesn't/does over 7 years?

Gladius = niche, BG&E = niche, True Crime = mainstream potential.

precisely. How big is the market for gta clones vs. quirky adventure games?  Even though we've been flooded with gta-likes over the last few years, they still sell solid numbers. if JC3 makes it this year, it will be the 5th that I can think of off the top of my head.   I don't expect any of those other 4 to do poorly and I wouldn't be surprised to see two of them sell like gangbusters.

For reference, those would be Yak 3, JC2, crackdown 2, and red dead redemption.
8428  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / True Crime 3 - reboot imminent on: March 10, 2010, 08:18:21 PM
EG has some screenshots and a small blurb from the reveal

open world in hong kong with an undercover cop with an emphasis on hand to hand combat and counter attacks ala batman, cover based shooter and a dash of free-running on foot.

they are looking to pull aspects of the genre from many sources, but can they make it work where the first two muddled about in gta's shadow?  we'll find out around the end of the year
8429  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Just Cause 2 demo now up on: March 10, 2010, 08:06:56 PM
hands-on preview from EG

hijacking aeroplanes is fairly novel, as is flying them upside down into fuel containers and bailing just in time to grapple a nearby Humvee and ride around on its roof while the driver panics.

sounds like fun and this also sounds like it has enough of the spontaneous moments that get people talking about it long after we've stopped playing.

two weeks to go.
8430  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2 Impressions on: March 10, 2010, 06:45:50 PM
So other than the M1, it won't matter to most people as they'll have already unlocked the kits by the time EA gets it all sorted out. Assuming they don't drop the servers any more.

You just reminded me of Prototype which I have yet to play.   I liked inFamous, so maybe I will like Prototype?

fwiw, while i played and beat infamous and i enjoyed the first 2/3rds of prototype, it began to sour on me when they threw one of those boss battles of bad design at me.  a guy who blocks 90% of your attacks, hits you for a quarter of your health at every turn and puts you into a timed battle without the benefit of a timer.  i must have played that fight a dozen times before i sent it back to gamefly.  just not fun.
8432  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2 Impressions on: March 10, 2010, 05:46:06 PM
ug.  i just created a bf heroes character and i will boot up bc1 mp to get that marked down as well.  hope to get some more time in today with bc2;  yesterday i tried and nobody was in during the day.  wasn't able to play last night.

had a blast on monday night though.  got a win on rush when they all swept us up in our base and were tearing us to shreds as we spawned.  that is until some of us circle around them and knocked out both crates with 20 seconds of each other.  i would have loved to hear the chatter on their side after that match.

So I haven't seen this mentioned, but apparently the kill-cam in MP shows the person that killed you in real-time, rather than rewinding and showing what they were doing up to shooting you (like in MW2), right?  The first few times I watched it I couldn't figure out what was going on.  And there's no way to change the camera angle to view them from behind (and see what they're looking at) instead of from the front?  Not sure what the point of that is, I always used the kill-cam as a teaching tool to show me the mistakes I made, and this is rather useless for that purpose.

I think that there is a large part of the player base that does not like kill-cams because it gives away hiding spots. By only showing the player real time and from a rear-facing angle, the BC killcam 1) gives a hint as to the location of your killer without totally giving it away, 2) gives you something to look at while you wait for respawn and 3) avoids exposing lag issues with the game. I understand people's desires to not have a killcam, but it can get extremely frustrating to not have one at all when you are chain-dying. This seems like an okay compromise.

i do like the kill-cam here much better than mw2.  sure, it doesn't have the same opportunity to teach you what you did wrong, but that almost always boiled down to being exposed or having a slower trigger finger.  and it always made your job as a sniper (or concealed mg'er like me) harder.  it's one reason i always played hc in [email protected]

now you at least have an idea where to look, but it doesn't give you an exact location.  and if you let a hill unguarded (or let the foliage remain, you deserve to be sniped).

now, if they can just patch up the wall-hacks and do something about the damn invulnerable lighthouse, they'll have a great game on their hands.

and sp was fun but as i played through a chunk of the first one's campaign (during bc2's network issues) i hope they go back to a more open world environment and keep some of the improvements from bc2.  i missed being able to carry two weapons of my choosing, having to swap out my knife after a melee, not having an easy grenade key and having to hold down L3 to run.

the story was fine, even though they ripped the last level off of mw and the ending was wrapped up as a cliffhanger.
