one speeding ticket for 12 over in a 40.  damn truck driver aggroed on me trying to pass him.  did the "learn to drive" bit and all was forgiven.

pulled over for expired tabs and a busted light.  dropped after i fixed everything.

beat a charge for reckless driving as a passenger:  i sat up in my seat through his moon roof after a concert.  i beat it when i proved to the cop i stood up with a seatbelt on in front of him.

stared down a high-and-mighty after being stopped for blowing a red light.  damn thing turned yellow as i went through it, and the 5 cars behind and to my side went through too.  i must have looked like an easy target.

i got kicked out of my college pc lab after they found i had hacked it and was playing aliens online during class.  fun stuff.  i was back in after a week and still had all of my hidden programs right where i left them.

According to a post at the XBox forums, this week's XBLA game is Commando : Wolf of The Battlefield, but I'm not sure if it's accurate or not.

that could be fun.

if anything, i might get the penny arcade game, assuming i can score a few of those cheaper points cards ala target.

Turns out it's Buku Sudoku and Warlords.

bummer.  i was looking forward to commando.

as i got lucky with the target points cards, i'll be grabbing the penny game today.

about that last choice.

Spoiler for Hiden:
i think the deal ending is more in line with the storyline and makes it a better story than the revenge ending.  for one, it makes the motivation to kill dimitri personal.  it also makes a point of why you shouldn't choose money over holding to your beliefs.

i felt that roman's bit about doing the deal to help him and mallorie would be a good decision for niko to make.   after killing darko, it seems like niko would have wanted to make some attempt at changing his life for the better, and that means being able to let the desire for revenge go.  it also seemed like a good thing to try to help the men who had helped me find darko.  phil and jimmy were people who i felt some gratitude for, and by helping them, we would be square.  that jimmy betrays you to a man who later does the same to him is fittingly ironic.

personally, i think tragic endings (or at least Pyhrric victories) work better for crime stories.

are points tied to the system or the gamertag?  if the former, add them with a US account.

i have to figure that it won't fly, but it could be worth a shot.

not in front of my stats screen, but i finally finished up this morning.  ~77% complete iirc, and i took the
"bad" ending.  around 40 hours or so as i was only able to spend about 2-3 hours per game night.

i will reload and go the other route, then proceed to finish up the random stuff.  i only did all of the assassin, car delivery and most wanted missions.  i need to go back for the races, car theft, random people and pigeons, most of the jumps and about a dozen vigilante missions in alderney.

i can't wait to see what happens with the dlc.  it can't get here soon enough.

holy threadzerrection batman!

yeah, i wouldn't call adding a motor a redesign either, but it helps with two of my problems with the original.  no rumble and no weight.

i still think that the best option for those of us no longer honeymooning with a 9? year old design is the ps360 controller mod by benheck.

i'd be interested in getting midway for cheap.  i checked a kmart last week but they didn't seem to have anything on clearance worth looking at.  just some random ea sports titles.  hell, i might even waste 5 bucks on bulletwitch to see how bad it can be.

a little annoyed that i grabbed hitman when it was 20 and haven't put more than a few hours in, but that's really on me.  i wouldn't feel so bad ignoring it if it were that cheap.

8414  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: First 15 minutes of Dark Sector on PS3 on: May 23, 2008, 09:09:47 PM
considering how this was panned pretty much everywhere, it should be hitting clearance status in a few short months.

i'm surprised that you haven't seen it cheaper over in japan yet as i usually heard that games drop faster over there.

i really want to finish up on gta 4 and a number of the extra stuff i have been putting off.

if i touch anything other than the 360, i'll probably get a bit further in world in conflict's sp campaign.

good chance i might go back to mgs3 if i hit burnout point with gta 4 though.

I guess when you compare it to other games that were really nothing but generic shooters with a questionable story (Resistance and Turok for example) I have to question why the other games get a pass and this one doesn't.

It does offer excellent controls, good framerate and decent online deathmatch and coop. These things aren't that common on the PS3. I suppose it's a matter of timing, if it came out when it was originally scheduled to I think it would have fared better.

I must admit when the best thing they can hype is that Korn likes it they are probably in trouble.

But then I really like Free Radical and I'm probably just in denial that they made a total turd.  crybaby

I'm shocked with Free Radical failing, too.

I've been saying for a while that we got spoiled in the fall by some exceptional games that raised the bar, but that we shouldn't condemn the more straightforward ones just because there were a handful of amazing games.

But then I played Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

There were some amazing set pieces in that game, but it really was extremely lackluster.  It wasn't just average, it was below average.

I'd be interested to here how Haze compares to that one.  It sounds like the control and framerate are better, at least.

However, I was expecting Free Radical to deliver on story, and it sounds like they didn't live up to the potential there, either.

i had the same experience with blacksite: area 51.  lackluster game on all counts, and it didn't even have the benefit of fun mp or coop.  and it came out right when the other big names did, so it was even more likely to get ignored.  if it came out now, it might have sold a few more copies, at least until word of mouth came around.

any chance the team that made this isn't the same team that made second sight?  i could see how different teams would account for the differences between previous free radical games (ss and timesplitters)
8417  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Sony Card? on: May 21, 2008, 06:48:27 PM
i did this back when it was 150 off and got a 60gb before they went extinct.  pretty good deal for it considering you can't even find a new unit these days.

i haven't looked at my points, but i don't think it's enough for anything extravagant yet.

they sent me a catalog once with various stuff and their point value.  some of it is very expensive.  i'd list some of it, but i think it's been recycled.

i took out playboy x as i really liked his crib.  just like real NYC apartment hunting, sometimes you have to wait for someone else to die to get a chance to rent.  i didn't feel like waiting for him, and i also found out about dwayne's bonus.

Spoiler for Hiden:
i sniped francis.  anyone who is asking a killer like niko to 'stop' his brother doesn't seem the kind of friend i want to have my back.

i haven't progressed beyond the first two big choices, but i have past the minor ones.

Spoiler for Hiden:
i let ivan live as vlad just seemed like the kind of guy you don't blindly trust.

Spoiler for Hiden:
i let clarice live as i didn't feel like she was really out to hurt derrick.

Spoiler for Hiden:
i sniped clarence before even getting the option, as it was very obvious that a shootout would occur if i went into his hornets nest of a hangout.  but i probably would have taken him out anyways.

i like that the characters and the choices you make in game have had an effect on my sense of morality.

with the negative buzz around the tunnel of death mission, i was almost certain to hit a road block with it like i did with snow job.  i got very lucky though and beat it first try.  the first cop car got in a bender with the noose vehicles and all of the other first responders went down the wrong tunnel so my center point didn't reset.  by the time more cops showed up on the map, i was able to escape the circle and duck down an alley.  i lost the heat after that and the rest of the mission went fine.

about the end of that mission:
Spoiler for Hiden:
i kind of felt bad offing that aiden guy.  it's not like i had any beef with him and i certainly wasn't convinced that derrick was innocent in the whole thing either.  i ended up pistol whipping him and watching his body slide into the ocean.

tbs (oh, the irony of that acronym) used this to perfect infamy in the old days.  everything was off by 5 minutes.

end result was i watched a lot of shows on other channels or ended up missing the last 5 minutes of a tbs show.  it's annoying.

what i want is for them to stop broadcasting commercials at 3 times the volume of the show.  i get to just muting the damn things by default. i would kill for a tv that muted commercials automatically.

step 1: open mouth.
step 2: say the first thing that comes to mind
step 3: ????
step 4: couch (what, you thought i would say profit?)

there is no rhyme or reason for it, but sometimes i think they just want something to be mad about.  and we as men are nothing if not a steady stream of small things to be mad about.

her - "why did you put your keys on the counter?"
me - "because we always do and that way i won't misplace them"

her - frowning at me behind my back and "saving" this for later.

one copy of coh:opposing forces for $15

it also looks like no more heroes for the wii got a price drop to $30.
8431  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Official GTA4 impressions thread on: May 14, 2008, 08:53:30 PM
some interesting moments from my last bit of gametime.

capping an escaping criminal as he sped past me, watching him fall onto the gas and and ram his car onto a median, which vaulted the car into the tree.  the car flipped/barrel rolled 3 times and landed on it's wheel with the body still in the driver's seat.

doing 4 rollovers in first person while drunk.  i almost puked in RL. slywink

chasing down a former friend, some of his buddies pulled up to block me with their patriot.  i sprayed the side with my uzi and caught both of them before they even had a chance to jump out.

i somehow got a truck to do a half turn flat spin on the jump in star junction.  i landed between two parked cars, still facing perpendicular to the flow of traffic.

finding out a super easy way to do a mission actually lost me a random person encounter later on.  good for me, it wasn't a huge loss, and the mission went from a a pretty difficult one to damn near instant win

Rockstar did too good a job with recreating the City.  I keep getting killed in front of the building where I work in real life.  It was amusing the first time, but has since become horribly depressing.

now that's funny.

i didn't get enough time in nyc last year to really compare against liberty city, but a few nights ago i drove around the southern part of manhattan and my wife was calling out the landmarks she recognized.  that's pretty damn cool.

the closest comparison game-wise would have to be spiderman 3, and aside from the vertical representation, gta4 gets the nod for more realistic representation.

i don't have the luxury of playing online due to my free time being spread so thinly, but i did play through the first third (?) or so of the campaign.  the last mission was a doozy, and it had a very bleak ending.  i really like the mechanics here, even more so than coh, and it's incredibly satisfying to get a few squads of infantry entrenched in the trees and watch the enemy tanks get decimated as they go past.
8436  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Target clearance watch - April update! on: May 13, 2008, 10:54:13 PM
i have found different prices between stores quite often, even when those stores are in the same district.  not sure why, but one of the guys i asked said it's all dependent on each store's quantity.  like 2 copies of heavenly sword would still be 60, but 5 copies would get the cut to 30.  logical?  hell no.  but then this is the store where 2 360 hd-dvd drives were going for 180 two weeks after ms cut the price to 50.  i saw one drive a few weeks back still sitting there at the same price.

best option is to buy and trade with people.

btw, unless anyone wants it, i am going to return the 2nd copy of pgr4 i grabbed a while back.

sony is also pretty crazy with the japanese ads, iirc.  stuff like making a mini movie with a samurai/yakuza theme.  it's a bit hazy now, but i remember it being pretty cracked the first time i saw it.

they have also had the nutto hotel ad with a bunch of bizarre characters in it.  iirc there was a wanking scene in that one .

of course, you watch it and don't have a clue what it's for until the end.
8438  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Official GTA4 impressions thread on: May 13, 2008, 10:42:23 PM
anyone gotten the liberty city minute achievement?  i'm kind of annoyed they put this in there as it makes the impetus for finishing the main story missions first, and i think the game loses a lot of it's personality if you breeze from one to the next.  it also annoys me that i find myself watching the in game clock more than the in game activities.  i think i'll just blow it off and save it for the next time, but i know that's unlikely as i have never replayed a gta game.  or finished one other than except liberty city stories.

i think i'll play the next time with the goal of breaking the 30 hour mark so that the temptation is gone.  despite how much i love this game, i don't get as much time as i used to.  only up to 22 hours, but i have been doing more missions and i have done a few side activities as well.  ~ 45% with 56 missions done.

i spotted a great nesting place for a pigeon in downtown algonquin.  i think it's one of the coolest places i have seen so far and it just screams at you to notice it.

hint:  it's a short swim away from the south end of star junction.

i'll admit i haven't watched an episode in quite a while.  in fact, i would be hard pressed to say what the last bit i watched was about.

each generation of cast members had their stand outs and their fade outs, even back to the beginning.  of course, you can also call out bits that even the unpopular cast did quite well.  jimmy fallon did a bit on the news sketch as dave matthews i liked, also one parody of a pop song involving skiing down a mountain out of control.  he also had the occasional funny news item.  i wouldn't put him on a talk show by himself though.

most of my favorite cast members through current watching were from the early 90's. i like the old stuff of the 75-80 and 80-84 casts, but i grew up with the 90's group.  farrell, sandler, myers, carvey, rock, schneider, farley, spade, meadows, mcdonald, nealon, hartman.

hell, take a look at the list over on wiki and tell me there aren't more standout cast members from the middle years than the last 10.
