i'd be very surprised if they did that, tbh.  price matching is hard enough as it is, but when you have a coupon, they tend to make it either-or.  very ymmv if you ask me.

Well, my playlist just got nerfed. I am posting this from the dentist's office in advance of a dual wisdom tooth extraction after 6 sleepless hours last night. I expect to be pretty well out of any game playing mindset for the next few days.

At the risk of lulling you into a false sense of serenity, my quad-wisdom tooth extraction was a simple and completely painless experience.  I was kind of groggy for a couple hours afterwards -- I recall coming home and finding The 'Burbs way funnier than I remembered -- but I passed the rest of the weekend reading and playing turn-based strategy games.

Anyway, having just finished Just Cause 2, I'll probably play some more Uncharted 2 and maybe start Resonance of Fate this weekend.

-Autistic Angel

it wasn't half as bad as they made it out to be going in, that's for sure. The biggest setback was due to losing sleep. I am pretty well wiped out and will be getting the senior sleep schedule (before sunset) tonight. The pain was very manageable during the procedure and it's dulled to a minor headache thanks to the vicodin.

I might try for some gaming, but no twitchy stuff. Goodnight SC2, hello civ 4.

the must be trying to compete with the bohemia guys and their continuing support.

i've played both the pc and console versions of dragon rising and it's a pretty good, if simplified from arma2, realistic shooter that looks pretty good too.  i don't think it has as much community support though.

a local meter maid gave a ticket to a dead guy
She noticed a man who appeared to be asleep in the driver's seat. The officer knocked on the window to try waking the man. When he wouldn't wake up, she determined he was just a sound sleeper. She put the $42 ticket on the windshield and left.

deep sleeper indeed.  of course, the money shot has to be this nugget at the end.
The $42 parking ticket has been voided.

I think there's a game idea there:  the Batmobile, Joker Wagon, Penguin Sled, Cat Cart, Riddler Rider, Two Face Two Wheeler, Freeze Plow, Harley's Harley,....

in a perverse way, this could work, but in a lego batman sequel as kart racing makes more sense there.

more SC2 on the pc, brotherhood in arms HH on the 360 and maybe TR underworld as well.

i've also decided to quit on crackdown 2 after one too many failed attempts to do the damned wingsuit races.  i can sail around the islands just fine, but the flaky controls do not suit a racing mode imo.  also, the roof races go from fun to abusing when you get to the third island.

Try to give me an example of something that's highly popular (as defined by sales, or ownership, or audience) that doesn't meet the requirements that it was designed for.  Some product that hopelessly fails at everything it's meant to do, but is still incredibly popular.

Internet Explorer

and yet still in demand due to MS's archaic requirements for updates and office integration and lazy gov't, old companies too slow to update their interface, and horrid web developers who refuse to support more than the #1 browser (#1 because it's the default option and general users are ignorant of the others)

perfect example pug.

i think we are married to the same woman.  same thing happens to me and our 5 year old dyson.  i pretty much echo everything arkon says here.  it still picks up a lot, unlike the standard bissel we had before it.

7744  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: which is the best gothic? 2 or 3 ? (rpg sale) on: August 04, 2010, 11:15:49 PM
Keep in mind that gothic 3 is also a touch easier to get into due to the dificulty. G1/2 are defnitely more harsh when it comes to new players. Wander off the trail at your own risk, there be dragons. In the early game, you are very weak and the monsters around are not necessarily close to your level just because they can be found the starting towns. The controls also take some adjustment and the combat is also quite different from your standard rpg.

There was a community patch for G3 which supposedly addresses many issues left after the last official patch.

Not a bad idea rickfc. I would love if they did that, but the argument could be said of multi disc sharing of the other discs. It wouldn't pay off long term with ME2 due to the final missions being on the 1st disc, but it might allow you to share them from other multi disc games.

7749  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movies] James Cameron's Avatar on: August 04, 2010, 04:51:54 AM
it's a fine film that got so over-hyped it will take a decade for anything to get to its level.  a sci-fi "epic" from one of the guys who helped create the craze for sci-fi, in pre-production for a decade and filmed in 3d at a huge cost and then hyped up beyond any other film's PR budget by at least double.

in the end, james took a well-worn theme and gave it to us in a pretty picture.  that's all it is when you strip off the visual effects and polish so it is hard to see it as good as other epics were either the story was strong to begin with like lotr and classics like ben-hur or even pop favorites like star wars.  it also loses out when compared to 30 year old movies as flashy effects are more effective when you are younger.  if this had been made in 1980 with SW:TESB level effects, we would all have a more favorable impression of it.

i saw it once in 3d (not imax) and yes, the effects are beyond what other movies have shown us yet.  it was a good action flick but i can separate my reaction from my critique and see where the movie lacks depth.

i haven't felt the need to watch it again, tbh.  i wouldn't say no if someone wanted to buy me a ticket to an imax showing however.

From the sound of it, they're re-making NBA Jam for the Wii, and then packaging a demo of it for download, but that it won't actually be full featured like the Wii title.

Quote from: EA
"And the only way to play 'Jam' on the 360 and PS3 is by picking up 'Elite'. There's a one-time use code that will be in every copy of 'Elite', so you just go online and redeem it. We're not selling 'Jam' on PSN or Xbox Live. If you still want the full product, the full experience is on the Wii, but if you pick up 'Elite', you're still getting a good taste of it, especially with the inclusion of online play."

Wow, what a way to leave money on the table.  "We'll give you a gimped version for free with our latest game, but no way to purchase the remaining features on your console."

Oh, and NBA Elite is the new title for the NBA Live series.
leave it to EA to go full retard.  who do they think will end up liking the game as is, vs those who will say they nerfed it and hate it for what it isn't?

it came out in 2000, along with:

Almost Famous

Gone in 60 Seconds
O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Shanghai Noon
The Whole Nine Yards
High Fidelity
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Boiler Room
Coyote Ugly
American Psycho
Bring It On
Charlies Angels
Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle
The Patriot
Pitch Black

of course that year also had Dungeons & Dragons....

yeah, hard to throw out the baby with the bathwater on this one.  all of the bolded movies override the stench of battlefield earth imo.
