the ach list makes me happy.  some good stuff to do in there, oh yeah.

after seeing it though, i wonder,
Spoiler for Hiden:
did they add in a massive chunk of collectible crap to find?  it looks like there's only the one for hidden packages.

i also like the sound of the evasion method.  a bit like i remember it from mafia.  i do wish you could hide out somewhere within the circle though as there's no reason a cop should know exactly where you are if they lose sight of you.  they should comb through the area you were last seen in though inch by inch, but they shouldn't be able to tell you hid in a dumpster or something.

yup, and it allows you to grind on the first hunt as many times as you want, so you can get a real good impression of the basic mechanics.

i traded for it and have barely touched it due to the awesomeness of ps4.  it looks much better than any 14 y/o game has a right to be, especially on the psp.

i haven't even started phantasy star 2 (which is probably going make it much harder to play after i finish 4)

a big +1 for the genesis collection.  in fact, i am playing through phantasy star 4 for the first time.  great game.  the other stuff is good, and if you haven't played phantasy star 2 or 3, those are pretty good too.  (2 is much better than 3, but 3 isn't as bad as some would lead you to believe.)

that one disc has more gaming for your dollar than any of the others, and is worth it just for the phantasy star games imo.

i read the other day that(and bare with me for this,as i think its bullshit)..that the PS3 version will require you to install GTA4 which will take 85 minutes...that part wouldnt suprise me,but then it went on to say that it takes up 10gig...now,i know ps3 is blu-ray,but its the same as the 360 version..so,can you even get 10 gig on a DVD?

i also 'heard' that the only difference between the ps3 and 360 version is the 360 has a bit of pop up on the horizon when flying a helicoptor..and because the ps3's version is from the HDD you dont get that

so...Bullshit...or not?

i'd be surprised at this personally, but it is interesting.  what i wonder is, how much of the blu ray capacity did they use?  or did they just leave it uncompressed for faster access?

Kind of bizarre aside:

Last year during our annual "Azalea Festival" one of the "celebrities" who came down was the lady who was the original animation model for Tinkerbell. We went to a concert and she came out and spoke for a few minutes before the show and did the Tinkerbell "preening" gestures that the animators modeled for use in Peter Pan.

It was pretty bizarre watching an 80-year old woman prancing around the stage acting exactly like Tinkerbell. However, it was all worth it when the crowd started chanting, "TINK-ER-BELL! TINK-ER-BELL!." The old lady was grinning from ear to ear. Was kind of cool to see somebody with such a tiny footnote in film history with so much pride in what she had done.

peterock, i urge you to try the xbox version of double agent and chaos theory.  both are much better than the 360 version of DA.  no headquarters missions to worry about.  the core gameplay is both challenging and rewarding.

But do they still have similar trial-and-error gameplay elements?  Many situations have only one ideal solution, and all other attempts end in sorrow.  You are forced to play the same situation over and over again until you get it "right".  There are rarely, if ever, any opportunites to find a different solution.  There's one "right" answer, and all other choices result in death and a reload screen.  Being forced to replay the same damn situation over and over again is like experiencing your own version of the film Groundhog Day, but without the humor.  After numerous attempts the game just stops being fun and instead falls into an exercise in frustration.

While playing through Assassin's Creed I found it to be refreshing to not have to replay sections over and over again because the game didn't like my particular solution to the situation.  I really like Splinter Cell and wish it wasn't such a difficult, frustrating game full of trial-and-error used to artificially extend game length, but each and every time I try to go back I quickly learn why I stopped playing in the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth place.  And not only is the game full of trial-and-error, but it's hella tough, force-feeding you the trial-and-error experience whether you like it or not.

I'm not sure I can bring myself to buy two more games in the Splinter Cell series if they involve further variations of what I've come to despise about the series.

it's been a while since i played chaos theory, but i don't remember getting overly frustrated with it.  it's not as puzzle like as the first two and even a botched attempt can be salvaged.  it's not "you have been spotted 3 times, game over" as much as it is "you have been spotted, expect patrols".

i guess a better question to ask you is: did you play and enjoy the thief games?  SC is similar enough in that you are not intended to be able to take on the whole base of alerted soldiers, but with careful planning, you can empty out a base one soldier at a time.  in small groups, you can survive just fine, and you aren't going in bare handed either.

too bad i only have the pc version (with it's unfortunate use of starforce copy protection) as i would send it to you.  i enjoyed it a lot.

jak 2 was so bad i stopped playing it halfway through.  not sure if it was some race missions or what, but it was so consistently aggravating i quit.

that mission in r6v1 where one guy must hack a laptop in the middle of a stage while 50 badguys come at you at once.  your other ally is not smart enough to use the lmg the way he should and ends up getting sniped, forcing you to run into the middle of hell to save him, usually resulting in your getting killed or the hacker getting knocked out.  another moment where i just said F it and uninstalled after quitting the game.

I wish I could be an analyst.  Then anything I pull out of my ass would be news too.  "Yesterday, Chaz predicted that based on last period's movements, corn would continue to be a hot commodity in the coming buying season."

Even if EA managed to convince Take Two to agree to their offer within the next hour, there's no way that the buyout makes it through the channels it needs to in time to be able to delay the launch of GTA4.  That game is shipping to retail stores within the next week and a half.  Buyouts take months to go through, and Take Two isn't going to delay GTA.  If they were to delay it, and something happened to make the buyout not happen, they would be screwed with a spoon.  Even if that weren't the case, EA wouldn't let all the marketing that's already in place go to waste, not to mention that even they must know the massive amount of consumer backlash that would happen if they pushed it.

So yeah, I'd love to be an analyst.

i do hope you are right, but knowing where EA's priorities lie makes me nervous that they just might wait a bit for polishing and to time it around a major holiday

i got a wrtgs 2.1 from hrothgar and flashed it with open wrt.  slick little device and works pretty well.  much better wireless signal than what i was running before.

having a bit of trouble trying to upgrade it to x-wrt for an easier web interface, but for now, relearning all of those linux commands i've forgotten isn't too hard.

while i was looking at the hardware lists, i realized i really should have looked for a wrtsl54gs as it would have reduced the need for an nslu2.  linux custom firmware, usb attached hard drive and a built in media server for ps3/360/pc.

too bad they discontinued it.  oh well, i am going to get my nslu2 flashed with unslung and do it all that way.

sorry for the ramble btw.  i do recommend you look at a wrt54gl for upgrading, to start, and make sure you track the serial # for compatibility.
