i was always fond of disassembling them and keeping the platters around the desk, as a warning to the new ones, if you will.

i did learn through this that if you smack a platter with a hammer, it will leave pixie dust and potentially dangerous glass dust on your desk.
7722  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Very frustrating wireless connection issue on: July 01, 2010, 04:08:52 AM
sounds like you have a problem with DNS entries not being sent from the router.  check your configuration on the computers for DNS entries other than the router (likely, a 192.168.x.1 address depending on default config)  if you aren't seeing some form of outside dns entry, then that explains why your network is good while the web is not.
it will also show you if you are getting an IP conflict.

with many routers, you can assign an address for each machine by mapping it to their MAC address.  that way you don't have to worry about manually assigning it to your laptop.  this will reduce work if you have to take the laptop to another location and then rely on their network.  i do this with both wired and wireless devices in my house.

we have phones that do everything you could want mobile (gps, games, IM, voip, camera, video), home entertainment boxes that game/video on demand/social network/media hub and cameras that double as HD video recorders.

it seems that everything these days is destined to do a bazillion features rather than specialize.  so long single use devices.  you will not be missed.

not much info on numen.  3rd person action rpg apparently developed by akella according to one source.  pics looked grainy, video looked decent.  might be worth a gamble.

there's a user review on the Steam forums.

thanks for that.  looks like i am going to hold back on it then.

This seems like a pretty good deal. Opinions about the game and price?

can't go wrong for that price and the game is one of the best gta's imho

two player reviews on GS.  one mediocre, one bad.  expect the usual range of eastern european developed drawbacks (ai pathfinding in particular)

i was tempted by the TT pack as well, but i already have a ton of stuff on steam and it's very unlikely i'll get to much of it.  i don't regret it when it's small amounts, but $50 is a lot for backlog dump.

dragon rising is a pretty decent game.  been playing it off and on on the 360, but it ran pretty well on my older pc.  it is hard, but once you get adjusted to the mechanics and approach it differently than a cod/moh, it's fun.

not the first time it's happened btw.  the defense grid map packs were half off but not for a full day and i remember this happened back during the winter sale.  missed my shot at it as well, but it's probably for the best;  i was going to grab it for convenience and not work about the disks.  same with the civ iv pack, but with the added threat of a renewed addiction and loss of sleep.

I have to admit, I have never played a single Civ game.  ninja  If one were to get started, would Civ IV be a decent starting point?

it would and the complete bundle is an awesome deal considering the mod community you get access to with the expansion packs.  getting colonization in with it is just icing imo.

of course, if you have an addiction problem, it might be a bad thing.  biggrin

splitting my time between 2 of the 3 games from gamestop's last b2g1f deal.  banjo: nuts and bolts is pretty simple and has some annoying issues, but i am enjoying the change of pace and the challenge of getting around the hub world's limitations.  i spent an hour just picking up crates and finding new ways to climb up buildings and over obstacles designed to keep you out until getting better wheels.  wheels which you can get through normal play within an hour.  the vehicle building is kind of fun at first, but as i found, the designs don't really matter that much so you don't get a huge improvement from making aerodynamic designs.

also playing sacred 2 again and looking to finish up with the light sided campaign and the angel chick.

kotaku reports that apparently reggie fils-aime answered "next year" when jimmy fallon asked when it would be out.

take that however you want as their hasn't been an official date yet.  i stand by my earlier guess about japan-nov/dec 2010, US/Europe-march 2011

seeing as he actually answered with something, i wish jimmy had asked him about price.  might have got a ballpark figure or at least an intended ballpark.  hoping they release it ala apple;  drop the prices of the two current models and put the 3ds into the highest current bracket.

very tempted on bioshock 2 to go along with the five buck bioshock 1 i got in the winter sale.

I do think the TIV of the bigger drive is a bit low, especially when the smaller drive is only 10 bux less. Nevermnd the inital cost. But considering how low you could expect to sell a system and how long you'd have to wait, it's a trade-off I can accept.

I am going to do this with my 2nd system; it's over the warranty and has frozen up several times. All it's missing is the rrod.

RE the transfer;  are there any game saves which cannot be moved for some reason?  I remember some which wouldn't let you move them via the mem card.

good price point. Congrats to MS.

and there goes the slimmest chance I'd be buying one of these. For $150, it better get supported in useful ways by every game. I'm not paying 75% of a wii to play sports games and "upgrade" to wonky interface and menu controls.
7754  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Crackdown 2 on: June 18, 2010, 04:23:13 PM
sounds about right and not a bad idea if you ask me.  at least they want something to carry over from the demo.  it's kind of what capcom is doing with the dead rising 2 prequel.

either way, i'll be playing the demo until the full game comes out and buying/renting it anyways.
7755  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: XBOX Kinect on: June 18, 2010, 04:21:13 PM
especially when the install base that could use it may end up very small.  unless MS throws money at them to support it, it will get used in a handful of top games and ignored by the rest.  stall on launch.

go go local news.

local station article that doesn't require you to log in.

the woman in red should have kept her distance.  you do not interfere with a cop while he's arresting someone.

i would like to see the lead up to the screaming though.  it would help to know who first started the whole thing.

the scene was pretty damn close to blowing up and getting someone hurt even worse.  towards the end you hear someone yell "let's smash him".

Quote from: denoginizer on June 17, 2010, 06:47:33 PM

I just don't understand what goes through peoples' minds.  Why would someone react that way to a Police officer giving them a jaywalking ticket?  Even if you think the officer is in the wrong, acting like that is only going to make the situation worse.  I would never say that any woman deserves to get punched in the face.  But people need to exhibit at least a basic level of respect for authority.

yeah, she turned a ticket into an arrest.  should have just STFU and dealt with it like an adult.
