master clockwork rifle, so i have no worries there.  i think my biggest problem is i always end up aiming manually after forming the habit throughout the later part of the game.

please tell me that this is the last of this kind of switch.  otherwise it looks like more of a slog than i want at this point.

+1 to the suggestion to get a 360.  nothing like having a pretty reliable (hello rrod!) machine that plays anything you buy for it with great graphics and no compatibility headaches.

you do miss out on some games, but that's true for every system you don't own anyways.  i do miss modding though, but i've decided i would rather play a game than spend hours tweaking and messing with settings (and mods) these days.

(on that note, sony needs to have sales more often.  i had only 1 other game purchased up to now in over a year of having a ps3)

a:  not developed by pandemic, the creator of the series and
b:  being so bad that it was canned on the ps3 (i hear it was due to the cell programming difficulties.)

i will miss not having the bobblehead to keep vault boy company though. frown

i can hit the first one with a fully charged magic fireball aoe, then get the first two ranged by standing in front of the pillar between 1 and 2, but that last yellow just manages to reset before i can aim at it.

7732  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Recap: Thanksgiving 4 day Weekend Edition on: December 01, 2008, 07:45:05 PM
finished up fable 2's main quest and most of the extra stuff.  took a very short shot with fallout 3 and L4D.  made it to the last mission in cod5 on hardened and really wish i had just played it on normal.  all of the frustration, none of the fun.

i also bought rez hd, keflings, and golf: tee it up, plus 3 of the 5 sale games on psn (eden, wolf, and last guy)  so it was a big weekend for downloadable games.

rez is just as nice as i remember it and will be a good distraction.  keflings has a wierd charm and i expect golf to be a good game for parties to contrast wii sports golf.

not a lot of time overall, but i did get a few hours here and there of uninterrupted play time.
7733  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Left 4 Dead Impressions on: December 01, 2008, 07:38:09 PM
yeah, i don't see the need to beat anyone over the head with liking it or not.  either you do or you don't.  as long as you try it, i cannot fault your for disliking it.  if you give it an hour and it hasn't grabbed you, then why bother?  it's not like the game changes drastically at 1:01 or even 100:01.  it is what it is and that happens to be a tightly designed mp shooter based heavily on teamwork and covering each other's butts.  or, adversarily, working together to take down prey.  slywink

like i said earlier, i liked what i played even though i see the weak spots.  this hits a nerve for me;  putting myself into a zombie movie with friends.
7734  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fable II Impressions thread on: December 01, 2008, 07:25:58 PM
well, i finished this up the other night, and stupidly ended up taking the 'sacrifice' ending in the hopes that i would be able to undo some of the damage.  nope, it's pretty much final, and now i really wish i had taken the 'love' ending instead.  i would go into more detail, but stupid spoilers are still broken.

i also bought the castle as it turned out the ach for being rich is based on your ownings, not your cash on hand.  got a new quest from that too, but i am currently stuck due to an annoying switch requiring a magic and four ranged shots to activate and it gives you very little time to react.  i really liked the start of the quest though.

i have 10 more of those statues to find, and a handful of keys too, but i don't really know if i'm going to push on with it.

anyone want a ton of money?  i will happily give you a few hundred thousand.  biggrin

yup, if i am forced to buy a new one, so be it.  luckily, i bought in late, so i still have a year and a half left.
7736  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fable II Impressions thread on: November 29, 2008, 04:55:14 AM
only 5k per tick?  i'm over 12k per tick and got over half a mil the last time i logged in.  every building in bowerstone minus the castle, and every thing in the pirate town, the starting town, and everything in the city by the arena and everything is priced at 0%.

i still have a handful of quests to finish up, and the main quest too.

curious, but how much is the castle?  i thought the haunted one was expensive, but at least it gives you a payback at the end.

7742  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Left 4 Dead Impressions on: November 27, 2008, 09:03:52 PM
played 4 of 5 levels in the 'no mercy' campaign last night, and i definitely think this has more potential than the cod5 zombie mode.  mainly, there is a survivable goal here as you do progress through the levels assuming you have a good squad.  that's a major hurdle right now.  out of the 8 or so i played with, 3 were constantly running off and getting the horde to aggro on them without backup.  i was constantly seeing so-and-so has been attacked by the witch/tank/hunter/smoker, etc and need help/reviving, or even a respawn.

sadly, the group i was with just couldn't pull it together long enough to get past the final round before leaving and the ai is just useless in that level.  wading down into the ranks of the undead instead of standing back and working as a group.   i grabbed the minigun and found nobody covering me; attacked from behind.

this game will live or die based on how big the online community gets, and tbh, i don't think this will be all that enjoyable a year from now after the population has moved on.

also, the ai director is a dick.  that last level i was:

hit by the tank and left hanging on the far SE end of the map off a building while an ai partner stood and watched, never moving to help.  none of the human players could figure out where i was, despite the glowing outline around friendlies.

later on, i was dragged by the first smoker who got to the top of the building in front of the office and was left hanging until 80% of my health was gone just moments after the horde was triggered.

i had a great time while it was good though, and this is the first game in a while which demands good coordination by everyone to survive.  lettuce, we need to have a night and play this with some good people.  we're missing out in favor of everything else imo.
7743  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: CoD:WaW on: November 27, 2008, 08:43:30 PM
had a great round last night on roundhouse hc.  pug ended up on the other side this time and it was a bunch of regular livers playing.  i took my now regular camo-silenced g43 kit and the perk for faster rank reloading. glad i did

nobody had taken the tank outside the central building, so i grabbed it to keep it out of the enemies' hands (and especially pug's).  i then went on a 22 kill streak dude

i held off multiple attacks from every front and was able to avoid the panzer and grenade attacks with a saint's luck.  i lasted longer than the other tank and almost went with a deathless round, but there was no way the other team would let me get away with that biggrin

that single handedly turned my night around after a smattering of less than .5 k/d rounds.

damn fine night that was.

terrible in many ways, alone in the dark gets my vote this year.  it could have been so much better, and by all accounts, the ps3 version fixes it and makes the game more enjoyable, but the publicized stink on this game kills any chance of getting a sequel.  and for that, it warrants not only a crappy game label, but a franchise killer as well.

Dogmeat should be at the Scenic Outlook just outside 101.  However, sometimes he gets stuck in the ground, perhaps he can even fall through the ground.

Starshifter, about your Megaton issues:
It's not a cutscene, you can still move, and most importantly, you can still shoot and use VATS in that segment.

He's definitely not outside vault 101.  If you get another companion dos Dogmeat go away for good?

nope.  you can have both at the same time.  this is from the guide

Can anyone check their box and tell me if there's split-screen co-op or Vs and if system link play is supported for this game. I'm doing some planning for a 360 LAN party this Friday and I'm looking for another game to rent or purchase. Based on some of the feedback here and reviews I've read, I know this is a game I want to play myself. Some of the feedback for the PC version described some good mplay as well. I'd go to xbox.com for my answers, but I've recently found their game listings/descriptions to be very inaccurate.

box says players 1-16, link 2-16, plus mplayer 2-16.

confirming in game...

no split screen play, just lan linking.
