Sometimes I fear for the human race, are people really this stupid and helpless?

http://www.wkowtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=9667184

half of me sympathizes with someone who was sold something by a rep with an agenda ("stick with ubuntu, you will love it, blah, blah").  dell should have just made the change without trying to make a linux convert.

the other half faults this woman for blaming dell for all of her problems when a little due diligence (and a backbone on the phone) would have kept this from being a problem.    if you don't know what you are ordering, don't flatly accept the sales pitch;  ask someone who knows or get a review of the spec sheet before you buy it.

7324  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider Anniversary downloads for 360 on: January 15, 2009, 07:27:02 PM
just cause definitely pales when compared against current games, but part of the fun is taking over the islands for the locals.  it's very repetitive, but if you like the thought of exploring a huge chain of islands and can accept the limitations, it's pretty enjoyable.  note that i never retook more than half of the island and the associated story missions, but i got it cheap, so i don't feel too disappointed.

it would be hard to go back after far cry 2 though.  JC doesn't have nearly as much attention to detail and lacks variety in the environments.
7325  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fable 2 Knothole Island now available! on: January 15, 2009, 07:10:36 PM
that right there is enough for me to never bother with this.  patches and downloads which invalidate my save game are bad enough as it is.   afaik, the only way to get a copy is to buy one of those memory cards.  i'm kicking myself for not grabbing one on clearance a year ago.  could have come in handy with those games where you only get one save.  thankfully, there aren't many of those.

Why is it Little Lamplight is the most annoying place in the game and yet you cant kill anyone there? They just piss me off with their grown up acting I just want to run my fist down the mayor's throat.

I don't know if this is a spoiler or not, but I'll play it safe:

Spoiler for Hiden:
It's simple - the town is nothing but kids. If you were able to kill them, the game's rating would've skyrocketed into something that couldn't be sold. Killing is okay. Violence is okay. Killing or harming kids - that's a BIG no-no.

Additionally - can you kill the other kids in the game? I don't think it'll let you pull the trigger if you have a kid targeted elsewhere in the game.

Spoiler for Hiden:
dunno about pulling the trigger, but you do kill a number of them if you take burke's offer.

keep your eyes open for pure at target.  i grabbed a copy there for $15 a while back, so you might get lucky if your store isn't camped by the cag crowd.
7341  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: CoD:WaW on: January 13, 2009, 05:16:32 PM
as another betty whore (who camps in hard core too btw) i use those things as they are intended:  guard duty.  nothing so frustrating taking up position and having some fool knife you before you hit 3 kills.  very few places are defensible on more than 2 sides and that means you need to watch your back and mine the approaches.  they aren't invincible though and you can find yourself dead at the hands of a skilled player or one with the bomb squad perk, especially if they have already learned that bettys are in play.  if they nerf the damage, it will break my mold.

as for hc tactics, i recommend sticking with one weapon, preferably a rifle for big maps instead of a bolt action, and an smg for the small ones (although a g-43 can still effective on asylum and dome).  i stuck with the g-43, as i believe hark has as well through the lower levels until you get the silencer and the long range scope.  it makes for a great mid range sniper rifle and it can kill in one hit.  it can also wound though, even without juggernaut, so it's not over powered.

hc requires a different mindset, but i much prefer it over non hc where everyone likes to run around like lunatics.

Try something that isnt a shooter.  Bourne Conspiracy is pretty good, and quick. So are any of the LEGO games.

i must be the only one who really grew to hate the game as it wore on.  tacked on driving mission was bad, and the shooting aspect was pretty ugly at times, but tbh, the H2H combat drags the game down a notch, especially considering the source material.  i won't go into detail unless you are curious, but i feel they made too many concessions to make the fights last longer.

picked this up cheap and it's just like kemper describes.  lots of tricks, upgradable atv's and pretty slick presentation.  i haven't put much time into it, but it is a lot of fun once you get the controls down.

+1 to gow 2.  much better campaign than the first one and a great mix of squad, solo, and large battles, not to mention some of the "special moments".
