7321  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: CoD:WaW on: December 12, 2008, 07:43:09 PM
well, my hatred of dome turned around completely last night.  after a very normal start of 5 deaths in 2 minutes due to crappy spawns, i popped up and got the drop on 2 in that outside standalone perch, then one attacking a friendly, then another in the 2nd outside elevated camping spot, then a 5th after he missed with a sticky grenade, giving me an arty.  dropped that with uncanny luck and tore up three more. instant dogs ftw!!!!  they killed 5 all by themselves and i survived to see a 2nd friendly call them in again while taking out 7 more before running out of ammo.  biggrin

had i just enough good luck to reload a second faster with the smg i snagged and i could have gone to a 20 kill streak.

best damn night i have had so far even considering the profanity laced dill-hole who cursed us out after we slaughtered them on airfield, despite our reluctance to run out into the open like "real men" would, according to him.
7322  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Nov 2008 NPD Sales Stats on: December 12, 2008, 07:33:52 PM
last i heard, it was fall 2010 at the earliest for the next gen.  personally, i'm ok with that or even 2011 before getting a new system.  i am perfectly happy with the games at this stage and i don't feel it necessary to add motion to every 360 game out the door.  plus it means i still get to play whatever game i like without weighing the pros and cons of buying a new system just to do so.

curious what fallout 3's numbers were from combined sales as no single sku sold more than 300k

There is a Karma system built into the forum software that would sorta do what you are talking about.  The hitch is that most people don't want to be judged, and it may deter people from posting.

As for the redesign....uhm...I really REALLY want to tell you guys stuff but I can't quite yet.  Give me a few days...

Dont worry, its all over at IGN.com

Who's Marcus Wright? Is that from the tv show?

Good question. I'm not sure who he is either. Maybe someone else knows.

i know, but i'm not sure you want to know.  just know that you shouldn't try to find out until the movie is out and you should be pretty well satisfied.

he is a character in t4, listed as connor's second in command.  i will say nothing more and warn you not to go to the wiki site, nor imdb for that matter or be spoiled.

dude.  if she really warrants enough attention to get a gift above and beyond your words and respect, i would give her $50 to a nice restaurant.  it's enough to pretty much cover two people for dinner and not require a lot of out-of-pocket expenses outside of a tip.  it's also pretty timely as she wouldn't likely be doing such a thing during a busy shopping season/downturn.  personally, if a manager gave me that kind of coin, knowing my family arrangement, i would be very appreciative that they value me enough to wish my wife and i to have a good night out without worry.

sadly, these clowns seem more likely to cut my hours (or worse) than so much as thank me.

7328  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Wii] Production is Up but so is Demand - Way Up on: December 11, 2008, 10:13:02 PM
at this rate, i would be surprised if they satisfied the current market before the next gen comes out.  this could bite them in the butt though as many of the early adopters (myself included dec 06) have already moved on and are now wary/weary of a new wii system and those late adopters will be somewhat fresh off a console purchase and unwilling to upgrade for a marginal benefit.

with next generation approaching for a likely fall '10 release, there isn't as much time for people new to the system to feel like they have gotten the full benefit of ownership.

full list of BC games, straight from the horse's mouth

from this, i recommend
crimson skies - fun take on air combat with good action and humor.  still stands up pretty well graphically.
indigo prophecy - if she didn't play it on the pc, it's worth a shot here
dreamfall - same as above
conker's bad fur day - a raunchy take on the mario 64 style of game

the only problem i see is being able to find good copies of many games these days.

i recommend the saints row games.  1 is dirt cheap, and 2 is a ton of fun and has co-op.  (i forget if it's split screen though)

no.  i never actually played much in DR beyond the opening sequence.  a factor of being a late adopter i guess and having and trading the game away twice during a peak season in gaming (fall '07).  i am not as far with this one, but i do try to stay as far forward to get a chance to mow down the hordes though.

and the timelines of the different books are each a different timeline of their own.

i really like that they don't define one of the TL's as the proper one, thus discounting everything else.  of course, a lot of that is the result of not having one person or group in charge of the IP ala george lucas.

now we just need someone to redefine alien 3 and 4 and the avp movies and remake aliens 3 as the dark horse comics imagined.  then all would be good with the world.

not surprising considering how long the show lasted, but it's similar to snl in that if you sat down and watched a whole year's worth of episodes during one of the big years, you would come away with a lot more you had forgotten about.  i got the same effect after a bond binge from last year's $99 21 disc amazon sale.  or to a lesser effect when i watched all 4 sets of futurama every day for a week.

i intend to take it slow with this set though.

Play CoD on Veteran?  Not fun, no thanks.   Play any game online ranked?  Depends on the game, many have settings I just don't care for that are required to get an achievement.

a huge +1 for cod on veteran.  more hulk rage inducing "break game in half and nuke the f--ker" moments than i really ever want to deal with again.

on that note, i am really relieved that i finished cod5 on hardened.  that was a pita, but not as bad as veteran.  100pts for that is well earned imo.

having beat halo3 on legendary through a kickass co-op group session stands as one of my fond moments as i haven't had as much fun (enough to group up the next night to finish the campaign, actually) in a co-op since.

BoA folded it's hand and is going to extend credit to Republic after all, "for the good of the people".  sure you are.

of course, this event is now shadowed by the bigger scandal surrounding blago, but it should be noted that there exists a link between republic and another window company now based out of iowa, run by Gillman's wife.

apparently chase wants to get in on the goodwill by giving them 400k as well.  of interest here is that Chase's midwest chairman happens to be brother to richard daley and a chase subsidiary owns 40% of Republic.  does this look like a giant CYA exercise to you too?

first one lived from april 29, 2007 to just shy of it's 1 year birthday.  army of two was the killing blow.
this one is going pretty strong and has not shown any sign of red, which means jack squat considering the other one was 1st sign to total failure in two days.

i am 805 pts shy of 20k since i got my system (elite launch April 29, 2007) and yes, if you look you will see a few ach whoring moments, some i would never pimp out.  for the most part though, i don't keep playing a game after i finish it, which is why you see only one game with 1k.  in most cases, if it's a simple one to get and doesn't require a concentrated session just for that one (dead rising's genocide, rocket man, etc) then i will get it.  i've also left points on the table, so to speak in games where i just had no desire to keep playing any more like finding the last odd number of flags in AC or all of the pigeons in gta4.

at this point, i would rather play cod5 mp then go for the illustrious personal achievement of getting 20k before the end of the year.  it's all about where the fun is.

Whoa How’d They Get Up There

The Woot-Off Light, or more properly, flashspinnimate wootimus is a shy creature. Although a warm and loving partner that keeps a single partner for life, the Woot Off-light prefers to stay hidden, sometimes for weeks at a time, only venturing into the spotlight when it fills its nest with inventory, or maybe for accounting reasons at the end of a quarter.
Each Woot-Off Light is an individual, with its own independent on\off switch, though they only travel as a set. Astute observers will notice the 62 inch long USB Cable which powers the little three inch tall LED lights. And two velcro strips keep them in place at the corners of the web page, watching the deals fly past, one after the other.
The Woot-Off Light and its mate prefer to stay within 43 inches of each other and can easily fit on a computer monitor. A pair of Woot-Off Lights would make excellent pets, even though they prefer the dark (12:00am Central, to be exact). Scientists are unsure, but there is some suspicion that perhaps a pair of flashspinnimate wootimus has a some sort of Leeuwenhoekian relationship with bagfillimus crapicato. Perhaps you will be the one to write the final conclusive paper!
Warranty: 90 Day Woot Limited Warranty
Features:
Rotating Woot Off lights with LED bulb
Can be set 43” apart from each other with 62” long USB cable and stands 3" tall
Individual on/off switch for each light in case watching two spin at once is just a bit overwhelming
Stop co-worker interruptions during certain “high productivity” times of ecommerce opportunity analysis
Stop explaining what you’re doing hitting F5 repeatedly, simply extend arms and slowly bow to woot-off lights in response
Trick co-workers by turning them on and excitedly hitting F5 on woot.com during non-woot off days
Purchase monitors with cosmetic defects at a discount, knowing you can cover the damage with included velcro strips
Stress relief from denied BOC purchase (warning: throw lights at floor or wall, not other people)
Finally have a use for your portable Black and Decker USB enabled battery in your closet from our April Fools Woot Off
Practice the bolas throwing technique to take down cattle, great for passing co-workers who walk fast to feign urgency
