arise.....

so, gamefly saves me yet again from actually spending money on a piece of crap.  OM fucking G this game is boring.  all the fights seem to be block clock block, then attack attack attack which is usually met with a block block block ad naseum until you manage to get enough hits to be able to hit the B button and let the game win the fight for you.  add in levels with obstacles that block your path that a drunken circus midget could get over plus boss fights that take longer than an 82 year old man trying to take a crap after eating a wheel of cheese and you get a game of epic FAIL not unlike McCain-Palin 2008.

i warned you.  how long did you put up with it?

even when i saw this in the clearance aisle for maybe ten bucks, i wouldn't touch it again.  it and that blacksite game will always stand as the pinnacle of garbage for me this gen.

i got a chance to play hawx with this in fry's the other day.  it was marked $50.  it was also a pretty good joystick, with the sole exception being a hokey trigger block and odd d pad placement.

has anyone played that sylpheed game from a while back with a stick?  wondering if it would help me not get turned into char-broiled and frozen human kibble so soon.

that would pretty much kill any reason to get that version whatsoever.  still, at 25 + shipping, that comes in well under my 'buy it price'

Yeah, but for $10 I didn't think it was a bad deal at all.  You can get a few hours of fun out of it, which can't be said for everything out there.

no doubt about that, but it felt so short with so little replay value.  it's certainly better bang for your buck than a lot of others, but it's no where near the value of some of the other $10 games available for download.

I would say the male was at fault here wouldn't you?

"Details of the alleged attack on Rihanna by her boyfriend Chris Brown have been revealed via Los Angeles Police Department detective notes.

The notes say that Brown shoved Rihanna’s head against the window of his car, repeatedly punched and bit her and put her in a headlock so that she almost lost consciousness.

He also reportedly yelled at her "I'm going to beat the **** out of you when we get home. You wait and see."

The alleged attack happened after Rihanna read a text message from a woman on Brown’s phone. He tried to push her out of the car, a rented Lamborghini, but she was wearing a seatbelt. He then assaulted her, reports Fox News."

that last part just screams 'attempted murder'  if he was driving faster than idle speed.

hooray for teen role models!  maybe he just wants to re-brand as a real gangsta rapper and this is how he'll get his time (and also a deep seated hatred for authority and 'the man' who held him down)  Roll Eyes

i played through fable 2 and did so much of it that i think i overdid it.  when i was looking at my shelf of games, it struck me that i didn't have the desire to play through again, even as an evil character.

it was a great ride while it lasted though.

delayed again?  this is what, the 3rd big delay since being slated for a q1 2009 release?

it's beginning to slip off of my radar as delays do not make me confident in the developer's ability to code it for the 360 without port issues.  (see two worlds for a prime example)

my fear is that they will push back until it hits the magical no-mans land of summer and then decide to bounce it to november.

back to godfather 2 then.
7214  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Best GTA style sandbox game and why on: March 14, 2009, 04:42:32 PM
damn, it's hard to pick just one from the list (where are mercs, far cry 2 and scarface, btw?) and like many others, some aspects of one game top everything else, while taking a back seat based on another.

gta 3, vc had great atmosphere and offered a well balanced mix of sandbox vs missions.
gta sa had a huge world (with tons of stuff to do) to run around in that hasn't been topped in any SB game since.
gta4 had a finely detailed city with a great immersion factor and some of the best SB shooter controls ever.
crackdown gave you a city at war and the super powers to tackle enemies in fun ways.  also had a great co-op mode.
sr1 took the SB concept and turned it into a parody of it's serious counterparts, and works in damn near every level.  sr2 refined the concept and added full co-op to boot.
mercs 1 brought the ability to destroy buildings using an ever increasing scale of heavy weaponry, a feature only duplicated in it's sequel which also added full co-op too.  mercs 2 has the biggest user controlled explosive ordinance in any game.  a plus goes to it's implementation of vehicle camouflage (hide in an enemy vehicle to infiltrate their base)
godfather 1 simply kicked ass in the hand-to-hand fighting department and had shooting controls which influenced gta4.  integration with the movie is also a plus for fans.  the sequel is looking to take this all up a notch and add some grander gameplay options appropriate for a godfather.
scarface had a different take on earned money (you had to launder it at the bank before it stayed yours:  if you died with dirty money, it was lost) and a strong emphasis on empire building which seems to have influenced godfather 2.
far cry 2, while not a third person SB game, also has some impressive aspects, namely the effect on flammable objects you have and it's enemy AI's environmental awareness.
mafia had such a great story that it's remembered by most of the gaming community long after it's gone, and also had a great control scheme and memorable environment.
7215  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: How many games do you buy (How often) on: March 11, 2009, 04:40:45 AM
mostly, it depends on the sales and what might come through the trade forum.  i picked up 3 games sunday for about 30 bucks, so pretty good value for the money but have passed on some others.  right now, i am holding back from all of those games i might like, but not enough to get addicted to or play long term. (sf4, hawx, halo wars, re5)

my next big game will be sacred 2 and godfather 2, but i might try to gamefly rent them to get them cheaper.

compare it to the last 4 months of 2008 and i had quite a few, and i also rented 4 others which might have been purchases.  it's actually better than last year when i got a few games and rock band

mercs 2
fable 2 - resold
fallout 3
far cry 2
endwar - sale w/headset
gow2 (via trade)

i guessed this would be a start to the finale, and it was.  too bad they couldn't make it more exciting, but whatever.  so close to the end of new episodes, i'll watch what i can.  looks like they are going to scuttle the ship, but the preview hints at another possibility, although it makes little sense considering the state of things.

Yup, as I posted in the PC gaming thread on this the cost is far too much for me. Just no way a 3-4 hour arcade game is worth that amount of points. I might, and I emphasize the might, have bitten if it was only 800 pts.

3-4 hrs is bad,i had my suspicions when i saw one of the Achievements was to finish the game under 80 minutes

geez, that's less time than the movie.

yeah, i think i'm out for a while.

Well you do realize that you can finish most "classic" games in even less time, right?  Super Mario Bros, Ninja Gaiden, etc, can all be beaten quickly and we paid $50 for those back in the day.  They just made them extremely difficult so you had to keep starting over.

Not that this is a classic game, but the demo seemed pretty good for a modern Streets of Rage-style beat-em-up game.

i remember, but that doesn't mean i'm not conscious of the price of the game vs length these days.  i may pick it up later, but i don't feel the rush of hype to get this right now.l

When did they stop making the 60gb? I think mine is from March 07.

Because they removed one of the hardware components responsible for the backward compatibility in order to cut costs, resulting in the 4 USB port 80GB model. The second hardware component was later removed for the 40GB, 80GB w/ 2 USB, & 160 GB models.

not sure when they stopped making them, but i have a feeling mine is about the same age as yours.  i bought it august 2007, right around when the 80gb software bc only models first started hitting the shelves.

i hate the whole 'register your boxed copy to play' bs so much that i haven't even bought a pc game in 6 months.  this also pissed me off when i tried to update the witcher with the EE stuff and it required a connection to do so.

unfortunately, with a game like this, a bunch of the value of buying it comes from the mp side or i would just say to go off to your nearest crack site and find one, as you just know it's already out there on pirate sites.

7224  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Watchmen on XBLA:No comments? on: March 05, 2009, 08:31:41 PM
i tried the demo last night after it's rather large download ~1.2gbs and got through it.  it definitely has an old school brawler feel to it and with R, you get some rather basic fighting options to start (weak, strong, evade).  you unlock more moves by finding scattered objects, which could be a pita if they hide them in game somewhere.  the demo gives you a longer combo, a counter attack and a knockout move which uses your rage meter.  that's filled by getting into large fights and pulling off combos, from what i could tell, and drained during lulls.  R can pick up and use weapons (billy clubs in the demo) and use them until the broke (not overly long to be overpowered and not too short, considering how often i found them).

i didn't play through as nite owl, but i plan to tonight.

technically speaking, it's a good looking game with good controls, with at least two play-throughs warranted.

i haven't decided whether to pull the trigger on it yet, but if reviews are favorable, i might grab it after i see the movie for more watchmen fun.

england could be pretty cool, as would tokyo or hong kong, but i'd be gaijin all the way, which would take some getting used to.

odd about the gang wars.  i have been sticking pretty exclusively to the carbine and taking my time to line up head shots when possible.  so far, i have only died once to a gang war as i was trying to rack up a quick kill in one of those 'destroy the vehicle' variants.

i'm sitting on a ton of money and only need to call terry for armor now and again.

i do agree with you about the races being somewhat pointless outside of the achievement.  once i had done 10 of the wars and got a weapon unlock, i expected the same thing from the races.  at least they give you a new custom racer after that mission you hinted on.(awesome btw, and the mid-mission restart definitely helps)

could be worse and be like the seagull hunts.  i have found two so far and faik, you don't get squat for hunting them all down.

while it's not required to do the gang war missions or the race missions, they are the method by which you get the  achievements for knocking 69 people off their bikes and for getting terry and clay to 100% toughness.  you can get them up to 100% through backup on missions, but the gang war gets them up faster.  one thing that i learned from the hint video is that if you stick close to them during the ride to the gang's location, you will bring up their toughness.  i got the achievement on the ride over myself.  also, you get weapon unlocks for finishing 10, 20, and probably 25 gang wars.

afaik, the races are the only time you can knock people off their bikes, so if you are close, i hope you can redo some to make it 69

about 'they have a plan', i figure that by now, the humans have so completely screwed up the plan that it doesn't matter any more and the writers were just too lazy to remove it from the intro.  hell, did they plan on letting the humans cause such fragmentation between their own members to cause whole lines of cylons to rebel?

btw, i have been listening to the season 1 intro music (the military style marching drum beat) and it's kind of sad that so much of the early kick ass episodes have given way to inter couple drama.  i think i'll restart watching from the mini-series after the last episode to compare the writing quality.
