What were you running prior Caine?

up until i swapped out the optical cable to the blu-ray, i had it going to the yamaha 5.1 reciever and then to a pair of koss headphones, ur-20's.  they were pretty bland for range and worked better for non-gaming than they ever did for cod/halo, etc.  the x11's have a nice boost to bass and clear sound detail.

i ended up picking the pair after reading good things about it here and due to a $20 off deal when i got it along black ops.

That once again reminds me that I wish I had bought mine there last winter instead of best buy. I would have liked to get the slim at some point. You may have to re-sign with them if you want to get the swap. If that's all It took, it would be worth the cost.

The X11's are stereo, while the DSS turns them into 7.1 surround sound. I haven't tried the X11's by themselves to tell how drastic the difference is.

I'll post some impressions next week. I've been using the X11's for about a week now and I just ordered the DSS from amazon - should get it soon.

Going from the xbox base headset to surround sound speakers, difference was good but not mind blowing.

Going from surround sound speakers to the X11's, difference was HUGE. So much more detail in the headphones!

looks like I'll be ordering a set then. The difference I noticed last night was much better  than the old stereo set and that was just from the Blops trailer. It also seemed improved once I bypassed the reciever headset Jack and went with the audio output from the box. I'll have to test it to make sure but it seemed I could discern direction better that way. It was a little kludgy though and I often found myself focusing on a general direction rather than a specific point. The receiver is a 5.1 fwiw hooked up via the left/right jacks as I was getting much better sound from the blu-Ray player and as I had the old set, couldn't hear any improvement with the old phones. I'll have to set it back up and see.

I think the dss will be the best option in the end.
7205  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: has anybody had any problems on XBL tonight? on: November 12, 2010, 08:17:09 AM
It's still bad but it has gotten a little better since Tuesday when we kept getting dropped from the party and were never able to get into a match together. It still managed to drop at least five times tonight.

Oddly enough, in game, there hasn't been a huge issue with lag.

Funny, I got the sentry gun kill knocked out tonight before the other requirements. Just happen to luck into a gun perched at a window. Just need to get a few more knife kills and I should be good.

I am still rusty as fuck but this has all the markings of a great game. Ironically, I just got offered a full time gig once my contract is up, so my game time drops to a few hours a night. At least the wife is understanding and I can game without getting the look.

max brooks explores the eating aspect in world war Z.  basically, it's a shred of humanity that remains and manifests as the upper functions of the zombie brain are destroyed, leaving the baser instincts.  attacking prey and "feeding" on their kills. he even goes to describe what happened to some zombies where it ate enough to push rotting meat through the gi tract and deposit it into their pants.

I also bought a pair of the X11's the other day when I bought BlOps and while I didn't get any time with them last night, the first use was impressive.  Of course, nobody carries the dss unit. For those of you with the box, what is the most significant improvement by having one?  It seems the set is already muchnicer than the old pair of Koss 'phones I was using.

Unnecessary baiting, Moliere.  Very low class.

And thanks to you and all the other outraged people the author should see a nice boost in his sales courtesy of the free publicity. Sometimes it's better to let things die a quiet anonymous death on their own rather than pulling out your boycott signs because someone is doing something you don't like.

I've never boycotted anything before (other than interplay for the buggy debacle that was fo2).  If this isn't something to be outraged about what is?

Played mostly mp and enjoyed it. Really like the advancement system this time around. It pays to hold off on any attachments until you get to a weapon you prefer and stick with a minimum of builds. The faster leveling is good and bad as you aren't stuck with the basics too long and can still do very well with them.

Only started the sp as not 10 minutes into the game I get an ai squaddie stuck on a potted plant and won't budge. The courtyard spawns the endless stream and apparently the scripting needs everybody present, so it's restart time.

Or maybe I'll just stick to mp his time around.

I completely agree.  The splash guard Rick wears when he takes out his first zombie was borderline comical.  Not being familiar with the comic book storyline, I'd have to wager a guess as a prion causing the disease.  It was the viral form utilized in Patient Zero and makes sense in terms of zombie symptoms, transmission, inability to treat, and fatality.  Having also covered prions in microbiology they seem to be the most logical viral agent responsible.   SCIENCE!

That's because you are looking at the CG version of "evil young Jeff".  There is a quick glimpse of actual Jeff Bridges and he shows his age a lot more there.

I've hit the final third of the game, and I'm not too crazy about it.  Mainly because:

Spoiler for Hiden:
The game basically only gives you two choices:

1.  Destroy your land and/or alienate all your citizens.
2.  Wipe out your population.

Every "good" choice is ridiculously expensive, and every "evil" choice is ridiculously profitable.  Also, without any idea of what issues are coming up, there's no way to plan with any sort of strategy.  It basically just tuns into a total guessing game of "which random evil choices do I pick".

There's also no consistency in the choices.  For example, I chose not to rebuild Old Bowerstone after the battle, which caused me to lose all the homes I was renting out.  However, when I chose to restore Aurora, I wasn't able to rent out any of the new homes or businesses that were in that city.

Unless you've cheated (i.e. plug in a controller and let the game pile up gold), it doesn't seem like there's really any way to win without either killing everyone or becoming a giant asshole.  Maybe that's what they were shooting for, but after playing the Shining White Knight for 12 hours, I don't get terribly excited about those choices.  That said, I'm only about halfway through the final act, so maybe things change towards the end and you get a few "good" choices that don't completely rape your treasury.  Doubt it though...

see, that actually makes me feel better to read that as it's basically the polar opposite of what the article above said, where he complains that there were no hard choices in that phase.  it also makes it more likely that he sat there with his xbox on while he went to work.

I'm partial to "Grade A Mud Squirrel" which some dude on Survivor called another chick on the show this week.

That sounds like something that needs to be on Urban Dictionary.

Well...

Actually now that I think about it, he did call her a "dirt squirrel" and not a mud squirrell. Either way I think its freakin funny name.

Sabrina: "Dan where are you?"
Dan: "I'm in the bathroom, wrestling out a mud-squirrel"

Funniest thing I've read on the web today. icon_biggrin

thanks.  needed a laugh.
