The lawyers I spoke with say most defense attorneys will advise you to reach a plea agreement rather than risk going to trial on child-pornography charges.

that's supposed to make us feel better?  reach a plea on child porn charges?  wow, that right there is more than enough reason to lock up your wifi.  and having an open wifi wouldn't be a better defense anyways as you have no way to prove it was open at the time the crime occurred.  once they show up with a warrant, they already work on the assumption you are guilty;  your word means diddly.

it's not the dude with his laptop i am worried about, it's the guy living next door in range who concerns me.  someone close enough use a free connection whenever they want.

ouch.  this kind of puts a damper on all download services, doesn't it?  this has been a fear of many for years.  if they fold, what do you do then?
7207  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: How do you see who is using your wifi? on: September 19, 2010, 04:38:11 PM
i have to disagree with the "free wifi for all" mentality.  sure, you can protect your pc to guard against outside hacks (and you should), but a free wifi connection isn't just used for that.  if someone uses your wifi, their activity is now using your net address so anything they download looks like came from you.  if you don't see why that's a problem, i would invite you to search for child pornography and see what happens.
7208  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: How do I remove a driver in win7 on: September 19, 2010, 04:30:54 PM
the first step is to identify the driver by manufacturer or by name.

i would recommend Autoruns.  it lists everything that loads up when the pc starts and categorizes them into groups.  you can see the whole list of drivers this way and who makes it.  then you de-select the box next to it and that will disable it from starting up the next time.  then you can remove the file from the pc if you want.

there is a more detailed way of pulling off every file associated with it but it requires a bit more work.

as for the bsod, most of the time, it is a driver issue but the irq message points to failing hardware.  i would disable the onboard device if it's not in use.  you can do so from the device manager control panel under network adapters.

Unfortunately, despite what Kotaku says Vicious Cycle did develop the crappy Matt Hazard game as well (Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard).

Good to hear that there will be 150 weapons, though.  The constant weapon upgrading was one of the better parts about EDF2017.
aw yes, kotaku effect strikes again.  well, looking at their list of games, it at least shows they can handle the licensed games well  Roll Eyes and their history shows some promise.

Bocce is pretty good (it's hard to get far throws, though).

Everything seems to be fine except for Tiger Woods 11.  I cannot get it to recognize the Move controller at all.  I spent way too much time last night trying to get that to happen.

I haven't seen anything online about it, but I have heard the Move support is pretty shoddy.  I may try to take it back (wish me luck).

Yeah I have had trouble with the Tiger Woods demo on the starter disc; when you are at the tee it just won't recognise the controller.

The kids love the eyepet and the sports game. I (ahem) quite enjoy the gladiator challenge.

We never had a Wii though so it is a new experience.

is that you joey?

that sucks about TW11.  one of the few golf games i would actually buy.

so, at this stage, can you make a definitive yes/no recommendation?  what's the best move game so far?

hearing good things about shank and todd pilgrim if you want to try old school beat-em-ups and comic jumper got a decent review in the latest GI.

castle crashers is awesome as well.
7216  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Irrational teaser site (Bioshock : Infinite) on: September 19, 2010, 04:00:49 AM
i just read through the GI article on this and other than what's already been released, it seems there's another big guardian type who you have to face.  it's a single entity and not mass produced and from what they wrote, has an interesting relationship with the woman you have been sent to rescue.  think stockholm syndrome, but not so sinister.  also similar to the big daddy/little sister relationship.

the plasmid system is different now too.  instead of powers as spells like in 1/2, they are now more like potions and have different strengths and doses.  they named them vigors, nice touch.  they say this allows them to have a bigger range of powers and not tie everything into a mana pool.  we'll see how that turns out as you might run out of one potion at the wrong time.

also, they haven't decided on a mp component and were considering how best to do the respawn vs reload mechanic.  the big man also let the question of whether this is in the bioshock universe up to the player.  lastly, the subtitle was chosen for a reason but he was unspecific beyond "play it and then you'll know".

decent sized article and it has a number of pics and the description of the first demo played through.

Well it was an idiotic post. Steam sucks because Wal-mart broke street date? Great logic.

I hope you don't play WoW CeeKay, just because someone looks to be a woman, doesn't make it so.

there.  fixed that for you.

and yes, this isn't steam's fault at all.  if 2k had chosen a different drm/delivery system with an online activation, you would be right back where you started.  you can fault 2k if you want or walmart if you want, but the real culprit is the pirates.  if they weren't so intent on breaking the drm and getting something for nothing, 2k wouldn't have to keep upping their game from the old cd check to an activation model.

if you still want to blame 2k, blame them for sending the game out without turning on the retail activation servers.  that would be warranted imo.

Balls change color depending on the situation in the game.

I think that's not entirely accurate.  Your balls can change color depending on the game state, but what's going on in the room around you has a much bigger impact on the color of your balls.  Number of participants holding balls also matters.

it looks good despite the big flying ant having visible polygon lines.  if they can get the numbers of bugs on one screen that they did in the first, i can stand a little bit of blockiness.  decent texture work on the soldier too.

bit of a gamble with that dev.  they really botched the matt hazard game from a gameplay perspective, but then again, this isn't going to compete with the big games either.

should be a standard xbla card.  redeem it through the dashboard menu.

just finished the campaign on heroic and i already dread even trying it on legendary solo.  the last section before the credits was particularly bad;  must have died a dozen times.  i liked the connection to the first halo.  anyone know if there's an alt ending for legendary like the rest?  might be worth playing for but in co-op.

played a bunch of firefight last night and i could see that being the mode i go back to.  the defense aspect coupled with the variety of enemies (and vehicles) makes it much more like a campaign battle.  got a killer match where i ended up with more than double anyone else's points, it was epic.  had a massive streak going with the sniper rifle.

Sure it does, the 9th core is powered by The Force.  They only need to disable it via firmware update to make the system faster.

It can be argued that sotc wouldn't benefit from 60fps as much as gow did and get a much bigger boost from using the resources for draw distance and higher res textures.

Sure, halo reach is slated for 2013.

Btw, did you know that MS is very convinced the end of the world will be in 2012?  True story I just made up.

I'll wait for the inevitable gold edition and rent it. I did pretty much everything I wanted to do in mafia 2.  What I would actually be interested in would be a continuation of the story past the ending with Joe in some kind of what-if scenario like he DLC for the force unleashed.
7238  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Halo: Reach Impressions thread on: September 16, 2010, 06:26:53 PM
It takes a bit of adjustment to the speed but if you could hack it in unreal tournament, you should be fine.

If you aren't using your backpack in multi, you aren't playing on an even level with the regulars.

Aside from co-op, the best mp mode to get adjusted would be firefight.  Faster paced but you don't have to worry about facing the best players. Or just play the custom modes with friends. In time you shouldn't be facing too many of those crazy good players as the ranking system should match them against comparable players.
