i've been up there a bit and only managed to find one.  tried using bait too, but no luck.  best bet is to go up there during the day and look for the moving rock.  those things are big.

as for fist fights, yeah, do it once your fame is high enough.  i was able to lasso the guy up afterwards and everyone just ran off.

i imagine you can also fire off a warning shot as well.

well that blows.  i haven't finished up fort mercer yet (damn that swindling westin), but i haven't seen too many more of the bounties, and definitely not this guy.

i don't get how you can go past the bounty mission.  are they not supposed to be completable even after you finish the game?

i know that when i activated the code, i had already completed two of the parts to that outfit.  for some reason, it didn't accept an earlier duel i had won, but that was easily taken care of after a poker game went awry.

Another point of contention for me is that my family has a HIGH rate of cancer. I try to avoid unnecessary X-Rays, MRIs, etc, whenever possible.

as an mri doesn't use radiation, it really shouldn't be a risk involved, but i talk it over with your doctor so he can explain the procedure clearly.
7009  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie]Shrek The Final Chapter on: May 25, 2010, 04:50:34 PM
that's good to hear.  i didn't especially like the third one, as parts of it just dragged on too long (the frog king's death and oh-so-obvious pun).  the second was pretty good though and i actually liked the references intended for adults.  had a simpsons vibe to it.

wife and daughter are probably going to go to this today
7010  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Mass Effect movie in the works on: May 25, 2010, 04:47:45 PM
they did a good enough job of telling anderson's story in a book after me1 was out.  not bad by B-grade sci-fi writing and it was written by the same guy who wrote me2's script (afaik), so he's gotten more comfortable in the universe.

i would love to see a story about what happens in between 2 and 3, but as said, i don't see how they could even involve the current storyline from me1 on except for the big points.

they could do a first contact/war story though.  all action and violence and michael bay would actually be a benefit for once.
7011  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Ever had a knee injury? I could use some advice. on: May 25, 2010, 04:40:19 PM
if possible, call your doc's office and see if you can speak with him over the phone and let him know.  he'll probably want to stay cautious and get you in anyways, but let him know you are uncertain about the mri for non-medical reasons and see what else he suggests.

you might be ok, but should you ever get in an accident, they might try to point to this as pre-existing and deny coverage, so make sure you talk to the doc either way.

of course, i only play a doctor on tv, so take my advice with a grain of sand;

I remember reading using cheats disables achievements and saving while they're active.  at what point do you get this dreaded 'DeadEye 2.0'?  I just made it to Mexico via the raft.

Shortly.  You'll get it in less than an hour of reaching Mexico I'd say.

I think that's Dead Eye 3. I believe you get the second rank while you're still in the first area.

doing some research I see I already have 2, I just apparently never used it (outside of MP) prior to the West Dickens mission where you get it  icon_lol  and here I was expecting something horrible for level 2 icon_lol

other than that one time where i shot the hostage after shooting the rope, i haven't had much trouble with it.  it's been useful actually when using the rifles to pick off foes from far away.

i usually don't bother with sandbox games, but i am saving multiple times here.  not losing any progress if i can help it.  i've been doing that since far cry 2.

i also stick with the cattlemen revolver when out and about too as for whatever reason, revolver ammo pickups don't seem to add anything to my volcanic pistol counts.  i've only been able to get more by buying it from the stores.

i haven't had the same problem with the other weapon i found, the sawed off shottie.  that uses the same ammo (as it should) so i am not sure why the volcanic is different.  i love that i found the weapon in game though and not in a mission.  makes it feel more like a real world and not one where you have to buy it from the store just to keep it.

i also noticed the d-pad weapon selection during free roam.  very helpful to swap out to more useful weapons.

The money for pelts seems so meager when I look at it (like $2-$5 per) that I haven't really even bothered selling any. I guess it adds up.

1 wolf skinned = 1 wolf pelt, 1 wolf claw/fang, and 1 wolf heart (most of the time). That's a lot of money (assuming you sell it to a place that'll give you decent dollar, like Armadillo) for two bullets.

a few things about hunting. You get more for the bigger animals. Bucks give you more for thier antlers than bucks, fox furs are worth more than coyote and wolf pelts and cougars generally net you about $30-40 for everything. Of course, the risk is much higher and you are just as likely to be hunted instead. I've lost two horses and died once to them and managed to kill three.

i found the 2nd and third treasure maps much easier to read and find the treasure.  the 2nd in particular was pretty cool and i figured out the location just on the map itself.

small hint
Spoiler for Hiden:
the 1st is bit of a trick until you realize that the first clue only points you at a spot on the map.  the next clues are what lead you to the treasure.

haha, that is funny.  you have an evil horse there.

only dlc is the co-op missions, afaik.  hopefully those will come out soon and be much more than expanded hideouts.

not sure i want to push through as many levels of prestige just to get better character models, especially considering how much xp you get in competitive modes.  it could take a long time and clearing hideouts over and over would get dull fast.

easy but the guy is really frigging annoying. Why can't I just give him the money?  I got at least a grand sitting around.

exactly.  easy enough to be sure but damn is it dull.  i have over 3500 and nothing to spend it on so i save up on provisions and use the stagecoach whenever i am in town.

hit my first glitch last night.  stranger mission where you retrieve someone's girl.  well, i met her just fine, but when i went to leave, she had stuck on the terrain and was flicking in place.  i figured i would lasso the horse and get going that way, but instead it failed the mission.  i exited instead of continuing and it's been reset.  haven't tried it again yet.

OK, the random person running up to you appealing for help and then grabbing you're horse seems to be getting a bit overdone.  it almost makes me think there's going to be a time where it's a person who actually needs help is going to get shot dead.
Im sick of that as well. I figured out if you whistle the horse just dumps the dude and they run away.

i'm finding all that stuff ('someone stole my horse!', 'someone robbed my store!', 'they're hanging my buddy!', etc) to be overdone (nearing the end of mexico at this point). which's unfortunate, because, in moderation (something i'm thinking rockstar could learn a thing or 2 about smile ), it would've worked really well. as is, having done all of'm at least a half-dozen times, i just keep riding now - there's already more than enough repetitive stuff going on without that...

The frequency of these encounters are based on how high your Fame and Honor are. As those stats increase so do the frequency of the encounters.
As with the friend management of GTA IV they seemed to have gone overboard with these encounters.

at least you can ignore them this time w/out any negative effects.

my last 'save my wife' random ended badly as i went into dead eye while trying to hit both the rope and a bandit.  ended up hitting her in the chest while she fell.  ooops, sorry.

i'm really hoping the sleazy doctor missions are finished soon.  tired of schlepping across the countryside keeping his dumb ass alive.

My last long stint in open roam ended up with me terrorizing the residents of blackwater.  I was doing pretty well to the first 1k bounty when two guys from one posse rode in and proceeded to kill me several times in open ground. I had ignored a posse request from one of them, so apparently thems grounds for killin, I guess. After I rode out a bit without getting chases, I went back to find a good spot to take on the law.  I had a great spot on a hill and got the law to attack. These two clowns decided it was a good moment to take me out again, but I was ready. After taking both of them out 4 times while holding off a half dozen coppers, they decided it was best to leave me alone. They were pretty pissed and were cursing me up and down in chat.

Deadeye in mp is awesome. I popped one of them after disarming him and knee-capping him.  While I wish the lasso was available, I am a bit glad you can't be tied up and left on the ground.

Other than a big box and some cards, I'm not seeing the lure to get that version. It will depend on  whether amazon or kmart (they've made a great effort to fight for my wallet) have good deals on it.

I'm more surprised we are getting this so fast compared to fable>fable 2, but I guess that means the engine will go largely unchanged.

re animal hunting:  it's kind of like finding specific cars in gta.  you can generally find the same animals in an area, but it's up to the game whether to spawn them or not.  and it often feels like as soon as you need a rabbit or armadillo, you suddenly see none where before you saw herds of them.

the in-game map also has the animals on it when you are zoomed further out.  from experience, a cougar is dangerous.  i was out hunting a few deer for the challenge and had slowed to line up a shot.  i heard the cat growl, hit A like crazy but was too late.  the horse dropped, i hit the dirt with my rifle and couldn't get a shot off before he hit me.  down in the dirt again i went, and with a lunge, he killed me before i could get up.

i'm going to kill that cat next time i see him.

7037  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: May 20, 2010, 07:59:53 PM
It is possible to outrun the law, but you need a good horse, a good lead on em and a good read of the land ahead. Otherwise it's just best to go far into the desert and just killin em where noone will see the bodies.

I highly recommend a trip out to thieves landing. The bandana and the lucky rabbits foot are cheap and useful   I was annoyed after losing. Shooting challenge (the birds were so far above my head I couldn't aim high enough and couldn't get any higher in time) so I donned the hood and got my money back.

Hark, I can confirm that the lethal range on the shotties is pretty short, as we saw last night. I had an outlaw on a balcony and peppered him with the double barrell without killing him until the 5th shot.

as for the whole online code thing, i was afraid it would happen once ea started doing it for all their games.  just a matter of time really, but in line with their policy on shutting down servers for older games.

the sherriff wanted the payback for them giving him the limp.

i found the religious daughter from the train.  she should be hogtied and brought back to town, crazy nutjob.  you aren't going to get better lying down in the desert, unless you want to go meet jesus yourself.

it is odd about the multi-part stranger quests ending the way they do.  seems kind of odd to go out to check something and not have to report back.

i do love that you can get multiple stranger quests and keep them going all at once.  that's a real nice improvement from gta 4.
7040  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: May 20, 2010, 03:55:23 PM
hell, shooting men on their horse is fun in any mode.  i took the second bounty alive and was on my way back to town.  watching them fall back and hang from their stirrups never gets old.  like headshotting cops in gta 4.

i've decided not to intervene in the random "dude chasing other dude" moments as i've now lost a bunch of honor by shooting the wrong guy.

side note, i really need to make sure i've got the right weapon equipped before trying to save anyone.  i saw a woman getting chased by coyotes and tried to lasso the damn things.  she ran out of ground to run on, as they say.  oops, my bad.  they then attacked me and dropped my horse.  sad, but thanks for the meat.  it was odd, but after a later failed attempt to duel some random, i got the same horse back.  after the first one died, the next was the darker wild horse i had tamed the night before, so i thought horse death was more permanent.  man, i wish you could check your horses the same way you check them in mp.  hard to tell which is best.  same problem with the guns, but at least those you can check in the gunsmith.

doing the part for the bollards outfit, i haven't been able to clear either checkbox despite riding all the way around the town.  the tailor is still MIA, but i hope he shows up later in the day.

it's hard not to blow off the rest of the day and play instead.  stupid work.
